Not sure where they come up with their pricing, maybe there's not a lot of options in the area so they can hold you hostage. Found this spot while heading to Mishnock Barn with a group of 13, and it didn't disappoint! The venue is huge, the lakeside views are stunning, and the vibe is great (they even have live music on weekends). We loved having the choice between the BBQ and traditional menus. Not the best experience. Service was super slow, ambiance was awful as we sat near the kitchen and could hear the manager ringing a bell for food runners the entire 2 hours we were there. They were also blowing up balloons that kept popping every few minutes inside the restaurant. One of the poor tables next to us literally had to cover their ears at some points. Finally went in with a friend, only to stand at the front door for five minutes while staff just walked right by us as if we were not there. I had higher expectations after a recommendation from a friend. We went for lunch last week and I ordered a bowl of their chili with the potato scoops. The scoops were delicious but the chili ... eh at best. It didn't taste fresh and it was clearly reheated in the microwave as it had hot and cold spots. My friend also raved about their churros so we shared a plate but again, I just wasn't impressed. The insides felt a bit gooey and while I know a custard texture is good, something just seemed off to me. All that to say the food was just "eh" but the server was super! Ordered for my classroom Christmas party. Taco Bar- Chose 2 meats-ground beef and brisket. I added on a chips and guac. What an amazing meal. They provided all the toppings and everything was packaged beautifully. It was ready on time and was nice and hot. Everyone loved it. The restaurant was also decorated very festive. Lake Taco is located on Tiogue Lake in Coventry, RI. There were plenty of parking and the location is gorgeous. They specialize in BBQ; there is a BBQ pit onsite that was custom built in 2023. They also create delicious mezcal and tequila drinks. There is a patio dining area, a spacious open dining area, and a bar. When we went on Saturday evening, the place was packed and there was live music. The energy was lively and I love that it's kid friendly. We didn't get a server for a few minutes, I think there was a slight confusion as to who was handling our table. There were 3 different people that came over, so it was rectified; everyone was cordial. We started off with mac and cheese and chips and salsa for the kids. I had a margarita flight ($16) it was amazing! There were 4 different flavors, bartenders choice, and I liked them all. For my meal, I got the Houston Quesitaco ($18); it had corn tortilla, chili oil, cheese blend, smoked brisket, onion, cilantro, and au jus to dip in. I liked it, it was good. However, I had a taste of my husband's and loved it more. He had the Brisky Business ($17) which had flour tortilla, smoked brisket, creamy slaw, pickled onion, and alabama white sauce. Amazing. My wife and I just tried Lake Taco for the first time and it did not disappoint. The view was beautiful, the food was delicious, the service staff was very attentive, and the drinks, food and desserts came at a desirable wait time while sipping our drinks. We started with the tequila drink for 2 and I had the smash burger with pulled pork and a side salad. My wife had tacos that were both warm on delivery and very tasty. We topped it off with a dessert that speaks for itself / pics. We will be back on a nicer day ( very rainy and windy Saturday the 30th of May) high of 46* but the ambiance inside was fine also. What a gem! Beautiful picturesque view of the lake! We sat outside on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner. So quiet and calm by the water. Service was lovely. We ordered Lake Tacos to share, I got the brisket sandwich, and he got the california burrito. Tacos were delicious, would definitely order those again and even interested in trying the other tacos. Brisket sandwich was also pretty good, I enjoyed the potato scoops that came with it. The california burrito was very underwhelming compared to everything else. Not something we would get again. I came here with an open mind. First off, I'll be rating based on the food and service and I'll go on record saying it's generous giving 4 stars. I wish yelp allowed half stars. This is not a spot you'll come to get a quick dinner and get out on a Friday/Saturday night. Our service was very slow, but the place is large and there were about 4 servers there so not exactly a lot to cover all that ground and tables. Our server was very polite and even brought us some complimentary chips as an apology for the wait it took between taking drink orders and food orders. The food: the smoked wings were fantastic. Good flavor, crisp snappy skin that wasn't chewy. The flavor we got that used a dry rub was a little weak, but the sauced one was delicious. Overall, great execution in the wings. I was between a couple options. I decided to go with the chicken bbq bowl and al la carte Brisket because I just needed to try it. Good lord, it was an absurd amount of food. I see some reviews on here complaining about the price but dollar to portion size ratio seemed perfectly acceptable to me (especially on the brisket, I ordered a 1/2lb and surely got at least 3/4). The chicken bowl could have used a little more sauce. They topped with a bbq sauce drizzle and I think it could have used more plus some kind of fat-based sauce like an aioli or even their Alabama white sauce. The mashed potatoes were plentiful, but made for a pretty monotone dish. I would have liked some acidity brought to the table. Some pickled red onion or pico de gallo would have been super nice. There was crispy corn and texturally and flavor wise, I loved that. Overall, would recommend for a hungry patron, maybe just ask for some extra sauce or some fresh pico on the side which they would probably be happy to provide. The brisket wasn't the best I've ever had. But man, it was a portion and a half. $18 for a 1/2lb serving is pretty standard. Like I mentioned, I definitely got more. So I made out on this deal. My slices were half and half from the flat and the point. The flat is almost always on the drier side but the point should not be. This brisket was overcooked. When you went to do the pull test it just kind of fell apart. Regardless, with the mustard bbq sauce and sweet bbq sauce they provided I was a happy camper. Not elite level bbq by any means, but it would for sure scratch the itch if you're in the mood for it. Now, I do have to mention.. There was live music and the performers were honestly hard to listen to.. It got to a point where it was so bad that it was good. The looks on the faces when you scanned the room were a unanimous, "What. Is. Happening. Right.now.".. Please, for the love of all that is good, please just play a soundtrack off of spotify. It would have been so much more enjoyable and it was so absurdly loud that I could barely hear my friends. Thankfully we were all able to catch up but.. Yeah. Had to mention that. Takeaway, slow pace of service, average food but great portions (my friends both got massive burritos and loved them), awful music, BUT, great casual setting to go and b.s. with the guy pals. I probably wouldn't take someone here on a date, though. We all agreed, we'd go back. I have to emphasize the use case for this restaurant, if you're expecting a perfect dining experience and you have very high standards for service, you'll rate a 2 or 3. Ok , the good , the bad , the ugly. Atmosphere was great, we sat out on the patio near the water. Bring your fish food cause there are some large carp swimming by. We ordered the mango guacamole and it was good. We also had the brisket quesadilla, messy but delicious. So that's the good. They ran out of liquor for the drink I ordered actually 2 drinks . They had none of the items with pork cause they ran out. We sat some time before someone came over and ask for our drink order. They should have atleast offers water when we sat down , I think we were sitting for over 10min before we ordered drinks and then it was awhile after that before we got them. Who ever is managing this place really needs to figure out how to order inventory properly so they are not running out of things all the time. And you have to work on you seat to drink times. I came in this past Sunday, beautiful day out, you had live music. The patio was packed so i went inside and asked how long for an outside table, i was told 45 min so i put my name in for two people and we went to the inside bar to have a drink while we waited. After about 45 min i received a phone call from the hostess saying that the manager canceled all outside seating for the rest of the day so i couldn't get a table at all outside. AFTER I WAITED 45 min! I'm sorry but that's ridiculous that i was allowed to put my name in and wait 45 min to be told sorry no tables. You need to learn how to better manage a restaurant. The manager did come over after we complained to the bartender, and she said they had too many reservations coming in to honor our table, my point is then if you already had too many reservations, don't let me wait 45 min before telling me that. read more

We anxiously awaited the opening of a new restaurant at this location. It has been several different restaurants over the past few years. I like tacos and was hoping to love this new spot. Our visit went so wrong and we couldn't be more disappointed. The interior has been almost completely remodeled. Bright colors painted on the walls. The private dining room wall removed and open to the main dining area. The bar has been moved away from the back wall, although in a similar position. Reception is in the same spot as are restrooms and the waiters station. Reception was not manned when we arrived, but we were greeted quickly by a lovely team member who asked if we had a seating preference, quickly brought us to a table, left us menus and let us know our waiter would be with us soon. Our waiter was extremely high energy, I mean absolutely over the top high energy excited to be our waiter. His routine included lots of platitudes he must have learned throughout his FOH career. We placed our drink order and after much conversation, off he went. The drinks took a little time to arrive. Nothing ridiculous. The bartender brought them over. This may be how the bar runs here because a second round was delivered by another team member as well. My whisky sour was quite tasty and nicely presented. We had plenty of time to view the menu and I noticed this menu is not the same as the online menu. The waiter mentioned the menu has been 'changed 16 times' since they opened. Sounds like they are taking suggestions and tweaking their offerings. I have food sensitivities that prevent me from eating corn products, pork, chicken and black beans which meant I can not eat any of their tacos as they do not offer flour shells. Only corn. From photos on Yelp I suspected as much but hope blooms eternal. My second choice, after a taco, was the smoked brisket but as it's cooked in the same smoker as the pork and chicken the waiter was hesitant to let me try. I appreciate the care. That left a burger. I can also eat their potato scoops and it seems the coleslaw should be OK as well. I can't figure out if their fish is breaded with corn flour as one menu says, or buttermilk battered as another menu states. I did ask for clarification but didn't get it. A food runner dropped the food at the table. Our waiter stopped by once to see if everything was OK after the food arrived and once before he 'clocked out' to let us know a new server would be taking over. We encountered several lovely team members during our visit. This burger is honestly just not good. I often get stuck eating burgers at restaurants because of my dietary limitation so I've had my fair share. But this burger is just, blah. I'm not sure how but it had no flavor. I'm pretty sure it's a frozen patty based on shape and it's quite a thin patty so you don't really get any beef flavor from that. It comes on a pretzel bun which is nice but that's really all you are tasting. It was just dry and blah. I know people don't come here for the burger. Still, it's on offer and I'm thinking I'm not the only one who has eaten one. Having flour tortilla shells as an option would have been greatly appreciated. The potato scoops are nice. Soft inside, well cooked. The restaurant is very brightly lit. They have a country music sound track. It's got nice new tables and chairs. The floors are painted concrete and with the vaulted ceiling even at quarter capacity, the dining room was so loud you couldn't hear the music any more. Not sure how to soften up the noise situation. Plenty of parking in their private lot and in summer they will have dining on the deck overlooking the lake we are told. I was looking forward to a good, basic taco: ground beef, lettuce, salsa, cheese, etc. Not being able to get my first or second menu choice, menu confusion (there are two), our over the top waiter, noise level and muzak all combined to make my experience two stars. This spot actually seems to be a smoked meat restaurant with taco's as a menu option. I would like to try their smoked brisket, but it doesn't sound like an option for me. Great place to come watch the games. There are 6 large televisions that you come see from both sides of the new bar. Everything is clean and new. The bartenders are fantastic and there is quite a selection of great cocktails with superb garnishes. The food is really good and the sauces for the bbq are excellent! All of the burgers sounded great, but they are only served on pretzel buns so I opted for some tacos. The tacos were good, hot and fresh. I can't wait to try the BBQ straight up next time with the sauces we tried a small sample and I can't wait to get a full plate. I'll start by mentioning that I have been to Lake Taco a few times before last Saturday night, and the experience was always excellent. However, this last Saturday night, it wasn't as good for a few reasons. I had reservations for a party of ten of my high school classmates, and I was really talking up the restaurant to them for many reasons. Our reservations were for outside - I had just made them two weeks ago. When I arrived at 6 PM, there was a wedding reception going on that looked like it was almost over. The woman at the desk said that our reservations could not be outside because of the wedding reception. They said they had tried to call me, but they got a bad number. It turns out they had written down my number incorrectly which is an honest mistake. However, I'm pretty sure that this wedding reception had not reserved the outside area between the time I had reserved two weeks ago and Saturday night, so they should have told me that that it was already booked. Obviously the same person who mistakenly written down my number had neglected to see that the outside was booked so two mistakes were made. Not good. Anyway, some of my friends were already there when I arrived, and they had put together some high top roundtables where were a little awkward but did the job. Now the problem was lighting as it was very dark inside the restaurant. We asked at least four times to turn the lights on which they really never did but the lights from the bar area did brighten up over time. This also was disappointing. As I perused the menu, I realized that it was different from the times I had been here before which was only a month ago. Apparently they have reduced the menu, and many of the items I looked forward to recommending were gone. They used to have a BBQ dinner for two, but that has gone by the wayside. On the bright side, our waitress (I didn't catch her name) was really good and attentive to us. She had a lot of tables to cover, and the drinks didn't come out as fast as we wanted but that could have been because of the bar, I don't know. The food was very good as usual, we just didn't have the variety off the menu that I have enjoyed in the recent past. I highly suggest that Lake Taco restore their old menu. I would also suggest that when a reservation for a big party is made that they take the time to make sure they have all the details correct. This won't dissuade me from going back, but I really wish it would have been a better experience for my friends. read more

Very poor experience tonight at Lake Taco. My wife had been there twice before tonight with a party of 2 each time. This time was for her birthday and we had a party of 8. For starters, I'd called in a reservation for Saturday on Tuesday. When we arrived tonight, they didn't have my reservation on the books. When I showed them the confirmation text they'd sent me, they set up an 8 top for us on a moments notice. I'll give them points for that, but our 8 seat table was 2 smaller round tables pushed together. So a few people in our party had to sit awkwardly and had very little area for their food. The server was sweet and helpful enough....when we saw her. We were close enough to the bar to watch our drinks melt waiting to be served to us. One person (that I know of) ordered 2 drinks total and they both came wrong. Chips and queso appetizer had very thick, bland queso. My wife said the other times she'd come to the restaurant the queso was thinner and had much better taste As far as entrees, half came out before the other half with 5 minutes if not more between. No one's food came out hot. My wife and another woman got tacos that were just short of ice cold in the middle. One guy got a burrito that was hot in the middle but dry on the outside. My bbq chicken bowl was just barely warm. To add insult to the overall injury, an unrelated couple on the side of the restaurant was seated under a light that blinked more than a strobe light. I've worked in restaurants for a long time and one thing I noticed looking around was that no one seemed to be in charge. Overall the experience was just bad. My wife said she may go back, but I'm good with never going back. For over $300 I'd expect more people in the group to be content with the experience but overall it was a poor showing by a the lake taco staff. read more

We enjoyed a lovely, picturesque Father's Day lunch on the back patio this past Sunday. We were seated at a table near the water which was full of large fish. We ordered our food and drinks which came out quickly. Our server was very attentive even though she had several tables she was serving. My brisket tasted amazing- a little salty, but I love salt so it didn't bother me. It paired perfectly with their unique potato scoops, and I was so happy to see that they added cucumber salad to the menu. The drinks were on point too.
