I was wandering the area on my lunch break with a coworker and we noticed this restaurant with a line out the door. Interested we went and decided to give this place a shot. Yellow Is a mediterranean style cafe with food pastries and loads of specialty drinks. I have never not come here and it not been busy so your opportunities getting a table are slim, but the food is absolutely worth it. There are plenty of tables everywhere but because it is so busy getting a table is a struggle. Food and service are excellent. Ambiance is very much laid back and almost a little vibey with the way it is set up. Lounge chairs are set up around. I will definitely be coming back to make sure that I try everything on the menu. read more

Nestled in Georgetown is Yellow The Cafe. It's a very hustle and bustle part of town, especially on the weekends. Free parking is almost unheard of, you have to park in the surrounding neighborhood, and commit to a 5 minute walk. Which isn't uncommon for DC. There are parking lots that charge for parking, if you're willing to pay. I came for the coffee and the vibes. Upon walking to the building there was a large crowd. People waiting to be seated inside, and those claiming stake on the outdoor furniture. When I walked in, I was asked whether I'd be dining or ordering to go. I told them I was there for the coffee. I was given a menu that listed the options. While I waited I glanced at the tables inside. Those pizzas looked amazing. Especially watching the cooks in the open kitchen as they prepared them. I will come back on a less busy schedule, to give them a try. I ordered the Halva Honey Latte, and it was subtly sweet. It has tahini in it, so there's this nutty very buttery taste. It was good, but I would've loved to have gotten the smoked chai like my husband. This place is very popular, and I'm OBSESSED with their interior from the terrazzo tiles and yellow espresso machine. Overrated. Been and tried this place as a local (I live around the block) many times. Tonight is my last. Service stinks - the servers think you are there to please them - because "they are so busy". I asked for a glass for my beer and no one came back. Instead, when I went up to the counter to get my own glass. I was directed to the plastic cups at the water station. When the manager came around with a glass (for my $12 can of beer) she said, most customers want to drink from the can! Food is ok - not great. A friend recommended this place to me and WOW, I was impressed. This spot has a pretty extensive menu and I wanted to try everything as it all looked so good! I ended up getting the chicken shawarma, which was hearty and very tasty. I loved the Palestinian pickles! I also got the dirty chai, which was smooth and not too sweet. So grateful to have had the opportunity to eat at Yellow this evening! I've been looking forward to it for months and was finally in the area. We started with an order of falafel jibne (green shatta labne) which was so so so tasty - it tastes like Spring in the form of falafel. Glorious bright green deliciousness inside with a yummy dipping sauce - don't miss it. After that, we thoroughly enjoyed a "not pizza" (the smoked mushroom one, with burnt onion cream, green shatta, caciocavallo and whipped ricotta.) Amazingly delectable crust and truly tasty toppings. Seriously amazing food that's full of flavor and will wow anyone. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and there was a line out the door. The line moved pretty quickly though so we were able to order in less than 10 minutes. Every table was packed so getting a seat can be a bit of a challenge. You have to be watchful and ready to swoop in once the people before you are up! We ended up bussing our own table as the folks in front of us left all of their food over (don't do this fyi!) but once we did that it was fine. We ordered the lamb and chicken pitas. The lamb was literally the best, juiciest-tasting lamb I have ever had. My husband loved his chicken pita. We also ordered the regular hummus and the tater tots, both of which were awesome. The pita chips that come with the tater tots erred on the side of being burnt but overall were still pretty good. Kind of expensive for the amount of food -- all the above cost us close to $80 with tip. Can't wait to come back for the lamb pita and will def be back to try the breakfast and coffee out too. read more

I don't even know what to recommend because everything dish is flavorful and delicious. Just pick what you're craving and it won't disappoint. Thinking about going to Yellow just brings me pure joy and happiness, and I hope it brings that to you as well when you're there. We came here at 12pm on a Sunday and the line was out the door! The nice thing is that the wait wasn't the worst. Unfortunately many of the bakery items were already sold out by the time we got to the counter. So we got the chicken shawarma pita sandwich and a halva cookie and they were both delicious. The pita was packed to the brim with delicious chicken and the in house made pita was so fluffy! You know we had to go try another location for the pastries and those didn't disappoint either!! I got the soujek which had crumbled beef sausage, smoked jibne, pickled chilis and zaatar honey drizzled on top. It's their take of a spicy sausage pizza and it was so delicious. I've been to Yellow for both their daytime cafe offerings as well as their dinner "not pizza" menu. I have really enjoyed both! The breakfast pastries and sandwiches were all delicious, especially the pistachio croissant. I found most of the breakfast menu to be a bit overpriced considering the portion size of the sandwich. For dinner, I enjoyed all the pizzas we tried but the standout was the mushroom pie. The bread served with the hummus appetizer is also a highlight. The service is always friendly and helpful in answering any questions about the menu. I recommend ordering ahead for breakfast or making a reservation for dinner because it can get crowded. Love this place!! I've been here 3 times since finding out about this cafe. Everything is delicious, you really can't go wrong with anything you choose. My favorites are any of the hummus spreads. It comes with pita chips but you have to try the pita bread!! The baklava croissant is also delicious. The line is typically out the door every time I've come here, and I usually have to wait for a table. One of the best bakeries in DC! I love the middle eastern flavors in their pastries. Since their opening in georgetown, I have tried the harissa egg croissant, za'atar and labneh croissant, asparagus and ricotta, and date coffee cake muffin, and all of them tasted out of this world. The croissants were very savory and the perfect size for breakfast or a snack, and the date coffee cake muffin was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. Their black ambrosia tea was also delicious- fresh, loose leaf, with a rich flavor. No laptops allowed, otherwise I would do work here all day! Highly recommend this cafe! read more

Okay everything here is amazing. Yellow is the sister restaurant/ cafe to albi, the Michelin starred restaurant in Navy yard. Definitely go here for the coffee but stay for the food. Be prepared to wait in a long line. The tables are filled, but we were able to snag a spot. The swirl soft serve was very surprising but also super delicious. Tahini was my favorite flavor. A little bit nutty, sweet, perfection. The chicken shawarma pita was also great. It's a little bit pricey compared to the shawarmas I'm used to so I don't know whether I'd get again. Coffee was also great! Next time I'll definitely try a pastry. My friend recommended the baklava croissant, but they were sold out by the time we got there in the early afternoon on a Sunday, so I'd recommend trying to go earlier in the day. read more

Best zaatar labne croissant in town. (As niche as it sounds, yes, there are several of them now.) Do try the batatas if you like breakfast potatoes. I think I picked an underdog here, but actually really enjoyed my peanut dalgona with oat milk, not something that I would have thought or picked, but grabbed my eye under specialities. Just adding my voice to the chorus of fans of Yellow. The line is long but absolutely worth the wait. You can tell the staff is working at peak efficiency and is doing everything they can to keep the line moving including constantly clearing tables and prepping more food. The inside is cute and comfortable as is their outdoor patio if you can find a spot to sit. We opted to go to a park nearby since we couldn't find a table. I was debating between the cauliflower and falafel pitas and even though I don't think I could've gone wrong I eventually went with the cauliflower and was blown away. It was incredibly flavorful and balanced. The labne mixed with the herbs and the bbq harissa cauliflower seasoning to make this beautiful sauce that was unapologetically dripping down my hands. The soft and fluffy pita soaked most of it up to my delight. The pickled onions gave a perfect punch of acidity to the sandwich, making it each bite feel bright. I got a side of toum and slathered it all over and I was in heaven. My friend got the lamb pita which she said was delicious but heavy and had to take some of it home. We split the tots which were great, definitely perfect for sharing. They were more like layers of thinly sliced potatoes that were cubed and fried. Delicious but not the typical tot you might be expecting, and explains why they're soo filling. The Urfa sauce they come with for dipping was great. My only qualms about my experience are the fact that everything seems to come in a to go box, regardless of whether or not you're taking out, which I think is a huge waste. The other issue is that the because the pitas are filled to the brim with succulent fillings, they become a bit unwieldy to eat and drip all over. Instead of defaulting to a large box, I'd prefer a sturdy sleeve that I could use to hold and eat pita. This way my hands would stay clean and I wouldn't have to feel rushed eating it before it fell apart. We went savory this time around but cannot wait to come back and try their pastries. Would likely have to go super early to get there before they sell out. Also so curious to try their various dips and pita chips which I've heard great things about! read more

My favourite falafels in DC! Everything I've tried from yellow has just been *chef's kiss* ! I love love Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern flavours and have tried several different restaurants in DC matching that category and Yellow is definitely my favourite so far! Yellow has stunning plant based options : we went with the falafel Pita and the cauliflower Pita and both were amazing! The falafels were so soft on the inside and both the pitas were so jam packed with flavour we were licking any remnants of the sauce from our fingers. The coffee also has a good rose flavour and it's so unique! We also tried their asparagus goat cheese croissant which was very soft and buttery. I also really love the location and the vibes - the furniture and even the cutlery feels like a lot of thought has been put into. A great experience! After coming back a few more times, I can now confidently say Yellow is my most visited cafe in all of DC. It has grown on me. Every time I step in the door, I get mesmerized by the aroma of spices. In addition to the beautiful pastry case, their savory items are fantastic. I love the chicken shawarma and harissa cauliflower pitas - very flavorful, the pickled vegetables and dressing have the perfect tang to cut through the richness. Don't sleep on the falafels because they are so good! It's not on the menu but I asked if I could order on the side and the server kindly agreed (4 for $6). I got them freshly out of the fryer, super crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The inside is a vibrant green color so you know there are lots of flavorful herbs and spices. The batata tots are also fun to try and come with a delicious dipping sauce. However, I prefer my potatoes crispy so the inside of the tots is a little too soft and dense for me. Last but not least, the soft serve should not be overlooked! I got the labne and tahini twist and it was delicious.
