I actually loved the concept of the Hollandaise with the ham wrapped within the sweet crepe and two over easy eggs on top drizzled with hollandaise sauce. Great concept, but the star ingredient (hollandaise) was lacking in seasoning and watered down. The crepe on the plus side was nice and savory. The Vanilla Latte tasted just okay with an overpowering syrupy taste. The location is absolutely darling and I enjoyed the garden ambience with the patio. As you enter, you order ahead of time and then can seat anywhere. The service was subpar and the staff seemed less friendly than other local spots. Maybe just a case of the Mondays. This location is a little smaller than the others so I felt a little annoyed by the line and how close people are to the tables waiting in line (probably more annoying for people trying to eat) The girls that work here are super friendly and helpful but the service at the front to order is just slow........ but the table side service was great! I really enjoy their breakfast and brunch menu at every location I've been to. This location has plenty of tables and open patio seating outside. Spanish latte is amazing!! My new favorite color is yellow. This charming cafe in my 'hood has been open just over one month. And in this hideous economic climate where many restaurants are almost empty, Yellow Vase fills every one of their tables during peak hours & there's often a wait. This is quite impressive, even amazing. I've been there 3 times so far. My first visit I had the ham melt panini (black forest ham, brie, capers) which came with a dressed mixed green salad for $9 (see photo). I ate in, and helped myself to lemon-lime water from the glass urn by the door (pictured). In addition to fresh flowers, there are crayons on all the tables (see my pic)......and the adults use them to decorate the paper that partially covers the tablecloths. This is just one way Yellow Vase, with its limited space, is overflowing with charm. It's a cafe with full catering services, a bakery, and a gift & flower shop. The flower arrangements & gift baskets do look beautiful. The cafe is open to the florist area, so it's fun to watch creations in progress. Naturally, plants & flowers are everywhere, inside and especially on the outdoor patio. My photos do not do justice. The outdoor seating, under yellow umbrellas, is on Catalina Ave. in the heart of Riviera Village. On my first visit, in my hiking clothes, I was surrounded by dolled-up local "ladies who lunch". On my second visit I noticed a couple of reluctant male patrons, bravely enduring the yellow, flowered atmosphere....lol. On my third visit, for weekend breakfast, the men appeared to be happily on board. One way to a man's heart is through his stomach, after all...... So how does Yellow Vase defy all the odds in these tough times? Visual appeal & tasty food at good prices. Just to walk through the door makes people smile, the place is that cute. Then you see the bakery section when you order at the counter. Just look at those cupcakes in my photo..... There's a chocolate section, too. I bet they'll sell a lot of flowers & chocolates combos as gifts. So....order at the register & then find a table & they will serve you when it's ready. The staff wears fancy uniforms and is a smiling, friendly bunch. The owner herself bussed my table on the busy weekend morning. My breakfast, btw, was quite good. I had (organic) eggs, scrambled with tomato. It came with salsa, mixed green salad, and fresh bread. I normally don't eat white bread but after one small taste of Yellow Vase baguette served with European butter, I cleaned my big yellow plate. $7 for the breakfast, and all prices at Yellow Vase include tax. Keeps it simple & easy. I've also had the asparagus soup (there is one soup of the day) with a tuna melt sandwich on wheat bread. The bread had grill marks...nice. I got that meal to go because the cafe was crowded that day. $7 for the sandwich, mixed green salad included, and $4 for the bowl of soup. "To go" orders are packaged in chic white boxes lined with checkered paper, all in a bag with handles bearing the Yellow Vase logo. YV knows how to make a customer feel pampered. And in these days of deteriorating customer service and standards of quality & depressing economic forecasts, a cheery experience is welcome indeed. So far I've resisted the YV bakery but it's only a matter of time..... Also I look forward to trying their French onion soup. Speaking of fattening, I've admired the brioche French toast served to other patrons. It's piled high, dripping with strawberries, and could possibly be a shared breakfast for two. Crepes include: The Morning, The Afternoon, and Sweet Dreams. There are omelettes for $9, various salads, and sandwich selections including a BLT panini, yum. There are Home Specials such as yellow tamale & folded foccacia pizza. There's fresh-squeezed organic OJ and many choices of espresso. The catering menu provides delicious reading. My 200th review!! Woot Woot! I was saving the number 200 for a Korean place, but I could not wait any longer to do the review of this place after this morning. (and besides, our plan of visiting Soowon Galbi is scrapped for now, since my sister in law, who was supposed to have KBBQ with us this weekend, is having her baby today, early! This is an exciting day!!) We live just outside of Riviera Village, so we usually walk over here. Today was my second time here. We basically wanted a light pastry and a cup of coffee. We were gonna walk all the way to Starbucks, but Yellow Vase was right there and I was sure they have better pastries than Starbucks. See, I was right! Great selection of pastries and those cupcakes seriously looked delicious. I am gonna get my hands on those one of these days! I had... I don't know the name of it, but it looked like a thick disc of blueberry muffin, and the taste of it was... whoa.. just perfect. Went perfectly with coffee. My hubby got the cinnamon version of the same disc, and that looked good as well. They also have muffins, croissants and other stuff. Last time we were here, I had a salmon platter, and I liked how most of the meals come with baby green salad with good dressing. The portions here are not huge. Sometimes I feel totally overstuffed at brunch places, but not here. My hubby had a ham and cheese panini, and it looked so good too!!!! Another thing that I could not get my eyes off of are their chocolates. Some of those chocolates were really beautiful. I am sure they taste good too. Their floral arrangements around the place are amazing. Flowers, breakfast, baked goods, and chocolate, surely is a perfect combination. I think I saw the word catering on their door too, so I guess if you come here you can take care of flowers and catering and a wedding cake! You have to order at the counter first and grab a table afterwards. I love the seating. This place is pretty small, but I really love the picnic table outside with the yellow umbrella. Their mugs are yellow, and so are napkins. Very neat. So if you ever want to come over to Redondo Beach for brunch, come down to Riviera Village and visit this charming little cafe. However, the last time I went was this past weekend, and my friend and I sat inside. I normally sit outside because their outdoor area is nice, but it was full. I had to deal with such a rude girl behind the counter- she had such an attitude when taking my order (no "how are you,no "thank you", no smile). She had such tense and cold behavior. I ordered an iced latte and when my order was up, I was at the front of the store looking at the display. I heard " mam, your latte!" so I said, "be right there." As I walked over, this girl rolled her eyes at me and then made no eye contact when handing me my drink. I said "thank you" very nicely (& loud enough for anyone to hear) and when she didnt reply, I decided i would not come back for a long while. i absolutely hate people that are rude to customers- nice ones at that. It isn't hard to focus on creating and maintaining good customer service. It's an essential part of a storefront business. Get it together. The time prior to this my food was horrible. A friend was in town and wanted to hit up a LA beach, so we decided on Redondo and this spot for lunch beforehand. Yellow Vase is only a little over a mile away from the beach/pier, which makes for a perfect walk on a sunny day. If, you know, people walked in LA. Arriving at 2:30 on Sunday has its advantages: no competition for parking (meters right in front of the cafe, $.25/15 minutes) or for the handful of outdoor seating options. I like how they have you order at the counter and pay upfront. You don't have to worry about tipping, and they don't have to worry about checking up on your state of hydration over the next hour. They do still bring your food to your table, which is nice. I had the smoked salmon plate with a small cup of honey vanilla latte, and my friend had one of the sandwiches. You know how lox is yummiest when it's fishy, but not *too* fishy? And baguettes are best when they're crisp on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside? Yellow Vase nailed both elements. My latte had way too much honey in it, but I was happy enough with my food to let the mediocre drink slide. I was too preoccupied to notice what my co-eater's sandwich consisted of, but it didn't seem like I missed much. He barely finished 3/4 of it and gave the experience a resounding 'meh.' So, mixed bag. Prices are typical-- most items on the menu will run you $9-$12, coffee $3-$4. Nothing to write home about, but it's pleasant and cute and totally serviceable. Usually this place is good. Last time I went here got the Chicken Chipotle panini. The bread was hard and stale :( I was eating it there so after about two bites I went in and told the guy it sucked. I NEVER complain and was pretty shocked because Yellow Vase has always been SO BOMB. Asked the guy if he could make me another to-go and that one tasted the same. Not that I won't come back here again but that last experience wasn't good. I also think they are a little overpriced but then again the sandwiches do come with a salad. Can't miss this place with it's yellow writing, yellow umbrellas and yellow table settings. Cute little place with nice outdoor and indoor seating. The inside is very quaint and has a homey feel with all the flowers and decorations. I really liked the feel of this place. We had breakfast here and got the green eggs and ham (no the eggs weren't green), 2 by 2 and a Spanish latte and vanilla honey latte. The two breakfast plates were okay...very average. The potatoes and eggs in both dishes were cooked well but under-seasoned. The 2 by 2 was supposed to come with a fresh baguette but instead came with regular sliced bread. The french toast was tasty. When I ordered my green eggs and ham I was told that they didn't have the ham steak medallions and that all they had was sliced black forest ham. I appreciated that she told me beforehand. When I got my dish there were three slices of cold sliced ham...just reminded me of sandwich meat. Both of the lattes were very good, especially the Spanish latte! I would definitely get that again. Overall our breakfast was very average this time around. I would come back and probably just get a french toast plate next time. For over a decade, I have been a loyal patron of Yellow Vase. However, recently there has been a rapid decline in both their customer service and food quality. During my last visit to their Redondo Beach location for breakfast, my cappuccino with almond milk was initially prepared with very little almond milk. Toward the end of the coffee, I asked for a small amount of milk to balance the bitterness of the remaining coffee. To my shock, the woman behind the counter said that I would be charged an extra fee as per store policy. Despite explaining that they did not prepare the cappuccino correctly initially and I only wanted a small top-off to balance the bitter flavor, the answer was a resounding no and that I would have to pay for it. This will be my final visit to Yellow Vase, and I regret tipping them in the beginning due to their rude and unreasonable customer service policies. read more

I found it via Yelp & read the great reviews & knew I just had to try it :] First off, the location is just great ~ near redondo beach so it is located on a beach like strip with lots of cute shoppes and coffees areas around. Parking is convenient as there are street spots and meters as well~ We came at a not busy time so we got to take our time looking over the menu- & as it is self-seat- choose our seats- we took an outdoor table! When i first entered I was astounded by the cute truffles and choco desserts on sale in the display case-!! I wanted to try them all but unfortunately I was way too full by the end to get any dessert- next time for sure ^^ I ordered the strawberry french toast & my sister ordered the pesto chicken sandwich- both of which were delicious!!!! Cute, fresh, lively - a great place for brunch on a sunny SoCal day! I ordered the Egg, Bacon, Cheese Breakfast Croissant. The croissant was light and fluffy, and not too oily/buttery, which is what I'm used to with croissants. Everything complimented each other very well, so it was definitely a good steal for just $7. My friends got the omelettes, which came with a side order of vinaigrette-based salad and their baguette. I was lucky and got to try a baguette - SO GOOD! The outside was nice and crispy, and the inside was soo soft and fluffy. The bread itself was sweet enough that I didn't even have to put butter. Good thing I didn't have some for myself, because I would've devoured the baguette and neglected the meal itself. I saw a lady carry a loaf of baguette out, so I would definitely consider coming back just to get the baguette! I walked up to the counter and ordered the hummus panino. Between two halves of ciabatta were grilled eggplant, tomato, mint & basil with hummus spread. This was pressed until slightly crispy. The flavours were great. I loved the eggplant and the touch of fresh herbs. However, I felt like it was not a lot of substance. There was just one thin slice of eggplant in it. The panino was served with mixed greens dressed with balsamic vinaigrette. The bad part about this was that it was over-dressed. The greens were drowning in vinaigrette, unfortunately. Next time I will ask for dressing on the side. I would still like to try their baked goods and other items. read more

I'm sad to say that yellow vase isn't one of my favorite Favorite breakfast places anymore. Last two times I visited the food was mediocre. Bread was too hard to eat, coffee drinks came out almost cold and the food was lacking the flavor it used to have. Pastries were delicious as always. read more

I have had some good experiences here and some subpar experiences. The good: It's great to have a decent gluten-free option for lunch and breakfast in the South Bay. The gluten-free bread is tasty. The salads and sandwiches are good. Great location! The not so good: The coffee is good but not great. Sometimes they get the order wrong. I have dietary issues and have to omit certain ingredients. I've had 2 experiences where those ingredients were left on. I went there today and ordered a panini without cheese and it showed up burnt with cheese. :/ The waitress did at least ask me if the bread was ok but I was so hungry I ate it rather than send it back. read more

What can I say? I'm a sucker for brioche French Toast! Hydrate with complimentary lemon water on a hot day. Don't expect to seat yourself and be waited on; you actually have to approach the counter and order first then sit down and wait for your food to be brought to you. Don't be the dummy waiting for someone to take your order. The Brioche French Toast was decadent, soft, melt-in-your-mouth, maple-y goodness. Don't make the mistake of ordering it stuffed with ham... In this instance, savory and sweet don't satisfy the tastebuds as much as the Original French Toast. As my pops used to say, "Keep it simple, stupid". The dish came with sliced potatoes, eggs (I ordered them scrambled), and turkey sausage or bacon. I ordered the turkey sausage, was disappointed to receive greasy, measly bacon. We are not talking thick-cut applewood smoked bacon. The Spanish Latte was a special breakfast treat in itself. So good why not make it a large on a hot day? Overall, this place is great. If you're feeling mellow yellow on a Sunday morning, make it a date at the Yellow Vase! It's a great place to make the Walk of Shame to. read more

Okay, 5 stars for the coffee. I always get a Spanish Latte with Hazelnut and they are always divine. 5 stars for the decor as well. Love the French-country feel of it. What's not to love about a place that serves a nice drink in a large latte cup, complete with a design in the foam? Now, the food. 2 or 3 stars at most. My friend and I ordered panini's. These are hot sandwiches. The description even talked about melted cheese. What were we brought? Cold Sandwiches. The bread had been lightly grilled, but the meat inside was cold (not even cool or luke warm) to the touch and the cheese was still cold and in its' sliced (Swiss) and chunked (Brie) form. We showed it the the cashier and they seemed confused, but agreed to take it back. We were brought replacement hot sandwiches, which were indeed much better. But it's clear there needs to be more training on how to prepare the items on the menu. Come for the coffee and a cozy atmosphere. Skip the menu items. If you're looking for food, stick to the pastry display. read more

We were looking for a good breakfast/bakery place in the area and landed here. Overall I think it was just okay.. Some good, some not so good. For the price, I would have expected more. I tried one macaron (they didn't look very impressive) and they crushed it when they got it for me.. But it still tasted alright. They were tiny and $1.75 a piece. I got the croissant sandwich with bacon, and I actually liked mine a lot. The eggs and bacon were very good. I also tried a latte at $5, and it was very subpar. I didn't drink very much of it. My date got a Monte Cristo and it was just decent. I think it was $12.. Not worth it. But still wasn't bad. The place had a cute vibe going on, so if you're in the area and don't mind paying a little more for your food, its worth a shot. But I wouldn't go out of my way. read more
