Came here once a few months ago and had a pleasant experience. Decided to do this place today months later while waiting in the area for additional errands and the service was less than professional. We ordered our food and the front counter inputted the order correctly only to serve the past orders food by mistake. Then had to replace the order a second time having to wait for all other orders ahead of the failed order to be served. Needless to say it was a wait time of over 40 minutes. Then the servers were not accommodating nor offered to refill waters, and my chicken sausage was missing. The whole experience was not professional nor bill credited for the mistakes made. Many trips up to the counter to ask for the meal and no real answers provided. I'm sure the food would speak for itself but it really wasn't worth the delay, time and unprofessional courtesy. If you have the time to wait for a team here that makes mistakes and fails to correct them effectively and helpful and have greater patience then i do, your a trooper. I just found the whole experience poor and not handled well when we weren't at fault. That's not a place I'd like to invest my time, energy or money into. We won't come back sadly. read more

Latte was good if pricey. Paninis were $11 each and only ok. Ingredients were fresh but uninspired. Really wanted to like it more but we won't go out of our way to eat there again. $50 for counter ordered breakfast/brunch just not worth it. Will try pastry and coffee when the Hermosa location opens and hope that's better. Plus, we dropped the small cup of hummus on the table when we got our food and the lady who brought the food out didn't offer us another one. Not great service for sure. I love this place. My first visit here nearly cost me $15,000, but luckily the cards were stacked on my side that day. A friend and I met for the first time at YV. I was dropped off at the location by my husband. Since we planned to sit outside, I was applying sunscreen... which meant taking off my wedding/engagement rings and placing them on my lap. After the application, I forgot about the rings. Husband drops me off and I arrive for breakfast sans rings. Oh, they arrived, too, I just didn't know it yet. We sat, laughed, drank our lattes and ate our incredible croissants. At some point about 30 minutes later, I have a random epiphany... the rings FLEW off my lap and onto the street as I stepped out of the car! I frantically run to the street behind me about 15 feet and begin searching for sparkles. I found the wedding band. Then the engagement ring. PHEW. Needless to say, my first visit to the Yellow Vase was quite memorable. We went again with friends this past weekend and had a great time once again...this time, I kept the rings on. I ordered a sandwich with avocado, sprouts, swiss cheese, and hummus on some delicious foccacia that also came with a salad. My husband had the french toast and said it was probably the best he'd ever had. It was obviously popular considering about 50% of the other patrons also ordered it. He said it was so good that it didn't require any syrup at all. My friend ordered the croissant (standard amazingness) and her husband, the croissant sandwich. Adorable little spot right on the corner. Fresh flowers everywhere. Outside seating is so cute. Inside had a bit of a homier decor, still cute and fresh. Menu is very simple, one page. Breakfasts, sandwiches, salads. Ordered just a Greek salad for a quick bite. It was delicious and had avocado, fresh bread on the side. Baked goods looked yummy too. This is a cute spot to visit for a tasty brunch. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was not crowded. There were plenty of open tables, but the restaurant itself is small. There is a small parking lot outside. The food itself was good as well. I tired the strawberry and banana crepes, and it was a good sized serving. Great place for breakfast or lunch. My favorite is the Red Velvet French Toast, but the Brioche French toast is great, too. The setting is lovely. it has a French bistro feel to it. There is also outdoor seating which is wonderful for our temperate climate- so if you are walking to the Riviera with your dog you can sit outside to eat. One note: sometimes the bakery items are on the dry side. That's about the only thing I'd say we don't like. Remember you have to order at the counter before you take a seat. Although it does get crowded at some peak hours, especially weekend mornings, so you may want to check for seats first. We will continue to go to Yellow Vase a lot! read more

So I wanted to really like this place since I love walking around the Rivera plaza, but this place really struggles with making food stand out. I got the "popular" California chicken panini and it's a bad sign when you bite into a sandwich and it immediately needs salt. The chicken was super bland and the sauce they used was drenching the sandwich. I like the atmosphere (laid back with good music) but it's not enough to make me want to go back. It was delicious, but not enough for me to want to go back and order it again. BLT Panini- 4 star. Really was an OK panini, but after adding a bit of pesto sauce (which was additionally ordered on the side by a dear fella who's got a great palate) it was complete. Side salad- 5 star. Loved the vinagrette dressing. I bet their Greek Salad is bomb digs. Next time, def will try the greek salad, and they've got a great assortment of desserts. read more

Fantastic French Onion Soup! I'm a huge cheese lover and too often the best part of French Onion Soup is the cheese on the top. This soup not only had fabulous cheese on top, but the broth was mouth-watering! Delicious. It will be hard for me to try other things on the menu, as I'm going to want it again and again. We chose the carrot cake and since my fiance was not able to join us for the tasting, Morgan wrapped up a carrot cake cupcake for me to take to him! On 4/24 I visited Yellow Vase to pick up a cup of coffee I ordered online. I was a little disappointed with 2 things. The lack of enthusiasm and customer service displayed by the cashier. It was about 8:05 and you can tell she got a late start on her day. Listen that's fine, and it happens to the best of us, however, she had a bad attitude. Didn't greet me or another customer that walked in a few minutes after I did. My biggest problem was that I had already paid for my coffee in advance through Grubhub when I ordered online. She should have made my coffee before taking the other person's order who paid with cash. Yes the cashier was wearing gloves but she used those same gloves to prepare my coffee after touching the dirty money. During this pandemic you can't take a chance. I love yellow vase! I came here for brunch with my mom and we both thought the decor of this place was very cute. I think the flowers may have been attracting tiny flies, but that didn't really bother me. We ordered a large latte, large mocha, Afternoon crepe, and Italian omelette (I think that's what it was called). The coffees really were large, the cup was the size of a small soup bowl. I didn't try the mocha, but the latte was okay, nothing spectacular. The Italian omelette was packed with sundried tomatoes. I love sundried tomatoes, but it really had a lot in there, which made it kind of chewy. In addition to the tomatoes it had cubes of chicken, cheese, and pesto sauce. Then there was the Afternoon crepe. It was filled with chicken and creamed spinach and topped with a sort of cheese sauce. It would have been good, except that the crepe itself was too sweet to go with the savory filling. I wondered if they had accidentally used dessert crepe batter instead of batter for a savory crepe. The salad on the side was good, just a simple spring mix with balsamic vinaigrette, maybe a little to heavy on the vinaigrette, but that happens sometimes. I just wish the crepe had been better. Their paninis did look good though...maybe if I was in the area I would go back again to try those. read more

They have clearly put a lot of effort into making their cafes aesthetically pleasing with the yellow theme, and it is great for a photo op. However, their food is extremely sub par. The sandwiches seem microwaved, and the water was room temperature. Also, it is very overpriced, and the service was underwhelming. I would definitely choose another cafe over yellow vase. read more

In 2017, I posted a 4 star review. The food is still good - although the "very very soft" scrambled eggs I asked for were hard as rocks. Still, the French toast and bacon were good, and the wait staff fine. Sadly, the same cannot be said of management. A couple of days ago, I was at the Yellow Vase in the afternoon - at a very slow time, so staff was doing some cleaning. As soon as I sat down, the server came and told me "I'm afraid you just sat down in some bleach. I was cleaning." I stood up and she confirmed there were big white splotches on my formerly-navy blue slacks. Today I reported the incident to the manager, who spent 10 minutes haranguing me very aggressively on how they don't use bleach - that if they did, staff couldn't wear black aprons. My point: I don't care what cleaning product you use, I'm just quoting your employee - who, by the way, comped my coffee and cake. I think you should make things right. She told me that while she was not accusing me, they have a lot of people who make claims against them - people who haven't even been in the restaurant. She knows this because they have video and they don't appear on the video. I suggested she check the video for 4 pm Tuesday - she could see me there, and identify the server as well. She wasn't interested in doing that: "Why should I ruin MY day?" was her comment. She grudgingly offered me a $10 gift card. Better than nothing (but not better than a nice pair of navy slacks)! I really wanted to like this place because well, let's be honest- it's all about convenience .. it's close to home. But I didn't like it all that much. All be it, I only tried a few of the pastries, maybe the kitchen food is better? The crossaint was were very bready, tasted stale. The cupcakes were not impressive and the mini donut was overly sweet. We ordered the salmon crepe and the afternoon crepe today to give this place a try. I adore savory crepes, but these weren't that. They seem to use desert batter so it's overwhelmingly sweet. Even the sauce on the salmon crepe was sugary. The saving grace was the smoothies which were very good. We got a strawberry and a banana smoothie. I'd have to argue that this meal was more of a 2.5/5 but yelp only accepts whole number ratings. I cannot speak for the rest of the menu, but it's probably best to avoid the savory crepes unless you really like sugary meals. We shared the crepes and both agreed that the salmon crepe was far better than the afternoon crepe. Outside of being sugary, it was underwhelming flavor wise and was rather bland. read more

We have been trying to get over to the Yellow Vase for some time. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice location sidewalk seating, coffee and menu. I @GourmetFoodTrk had the Brioche French Toast with fresh strawberries and toasted almonds @yellowcat13 ordered The Frenchie a classic ham & cheese crepe. Both of us were very happy with the flavors and fresh ingredients. They also sell wonderful flower arrangements with more a block away at their flower shop. Disappointing. This place has the look of being special but I left feeling like I had a meal at a lower quality cafe, like one you might find in a kids science center, etc. Food did not seem very fresh; am questioning when the croissants were made! I went at 7:30 am on a Sunday. Latte was just not very flavorful though it had a pretty flower design in the foam. Breakfast wrap just didn't have much flavor, potatoes were a little hard and cold. Almond croissant was a bit stale and again not flavorful. I had such high hopes for this place based on the look of it and on their menu plus the reviews. read more
