I've been an Alamo Insider member for many years, a membership that usually provides me the ultimate convenience upon landing--walking straight to my assigned car and heading out on my trip with zero friction, and I reserve my vehicle ahead of time using the Alamo app. While Alamo typically nails this "easy" experience, my recent stop at the Raleigh-Durham airport didn't quite deliver the "easy" experience I've come to expect. Upon landing, the Alamo app indicated I'd still need to visit the counter for a car assignment. RDU still requires travelers to board a shuttle bus for transportation to the rental car lot, but thankfully, the buses run frequently so we didn't wait long. When we arrived at the lot, I was mildly discouraged to see a line snaking out of the office with only one customer service rep on duty. However, kudos to the on-duty manager for quickly recognizing the queue and offering to process several reservations at the adjacent National desk. The customer service rep who helped me was great at getting our trip back on track -- I had my license, credit card, and reservation number ready-to-go and they didn't try to push any "add-ons" like the collision damage waiver or satellite radio, which I appreciated (but am sure that Alamo's corporate overlords at Enterprise Holdings will be disappointed to read). I was, however, somewhat frustrated they didn't have the full-size hybrid sedan I originally requested, especially since I had a lot of driving to do. (At this point, I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry exclaims in exasperation: "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding!") I was initially assigned a Kia K5 from a lower vehicle class, which showed significant wear and tear and several dings upon inspection. When I returned to the office to request a different vehicle, the rep handled it professionally and quickly found a 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid with less than 3,000 miles on the odometer. The rest of the rental went smoothly -- the nearly new Camry performed perfectly and the drop-off process was a breeze. While it wasn't the "straight to the lot and go" experience I usually enjoy, the staff's hustle, politeness, and willingness to fix the vehicle issue was definitely worthy of a 4-star review.

I was initially scheduled for a pick up from John's collision office but the owner knew how busy enterprise was and decided to drive me and another customer over. Susan assisted me and reviewed what models were in stock. I initially requested a Nissan Sentra or Dodge Charger Sedan. I also confirmed with her that I wanted to stay within my policy's daily allowance. She showed me a 2023 Mazda CX5. I found the vehicle too large for my needs and asked to see other options. I decided on a electric blue 2021 Ford Ecosport Compact SUV. I love a fuel efficient vehicle, so this was perfect for my needs. The car smelled new, did not have cigarette odor and the interior was spotless. I enjoyed the keyless entry, Automatic engine shut off, cap free gas tank, comfortable stain free seats, amazing fuel economy where $30 fills up the tank. The collision shop originally promised the repair would be only a few days but I had the car for over a week's time. I am not a fan of FORD but I really enjoyed the EcoSport. When it came time to return the vehicle Josh was wonderful and assisted me with the return. Caesar drove me back over to John's Collision and I was on the road again. The customer service at Enterprise is unmatched. I will definitely return for my rental car needs. Prices are affordable and the selection of vehicles was spot on for me.

Not only did they not agree to rent to her, they walked away with her documentations to a back office and disappeared for a very long time. It is not OK to take people's legal documents! When I asked for the manager to come out of the back office, the woman who was helping us said that she was the manager. She went in the back to get a verification from someone else; that person should've come to the front. Taking a person's passport away, is unsettling to say the least. When I mentioned it to the woman who had the passport and driver's license, she says "there's cameras everywhere." Well I could've rented the car alone. I needed the other driver. Well, this may have been the issue with this particular location, I will never rent from Enterprise again I went to another company.

I'm a longtime Avis loyalist and business traveler. Simply put, locations with no after-hours drop…read moreoptions simply don't work for me. Hard stop. I've rented in many states at large and small locations, and I've literally never had this issue. As this was my first rental in the state, I wasn't aware that this "no drop box" deal is commonplace in North Carolina, and I wish I'd been told at the counter at pickup. But, that's on me. I've now been educated that "North Carolina is different. All NC Avis locations outside of airports have no drop boxes or after-hours returns." Meanwhile, my husband casually throws out that Fuquay-Varina Enterprise (boo!) location has a drop box, and he's used it twice. -- We're clearly a house divided on preferred rental companies. So my reply to that is-- Be an Avis trailblazer in this state! What a simple accommodation to consider, and a huge missed opportunity for added convenience for your customers. (Or do I join the Enterprise ranks when I'm in NC now? I'll have to chew on that a while.) Lord forbid someone's delayed or life happens. I showed up at 1:15PM on a Sunday, and after parking on the 5th level in the garage across the street and entering the hotel lobby, I had no way to return my vehicle, other than to go back to the garage across the street and take the vehicle to the airport and try the return process again. How's that for convenience, with a looming engagement to get to. Seriously? Charge me for an extra day, but please (for the love of all that is holy) let me return the keys after all the hoops I had to jump through while backpacking to and fro in downtown Raleigh in hopes of returning a car. It cannot be this complicated. Going forward, and as much as I can help it-- it's airport only for me in these parts. Lesson learned, le sigh. I got yelled at for parking in the hotel pull in rather than the parking terrace across the street, as if I was supposed to know that. I informed the employee that when I picked up the car elsewhere it had not been vacuumed out first. He exclaimed that he did not believe that and looked at the passenger seat floor (I had no passengers) and declared that they would probably have to steam clean it and that they would charge me more. I said they better not! However, they ran my card for an additional $120. I filed a complaint with Avis headquarters about a week ago but so far have heard nothing!

Everything turned out OK. It looks like prices have returned to pre-Covid levels, with a week rental quoted for $272.67 for a Saturday to Saturday rental at RDU via Costco. The nice thing about renting a car through Costco is that they don't require pre-payment resulting in no cancellation fee if plans change (another benefit is automatically free secondary driver). We were able to enter my Fastbreak number, which allowed us to have our car already prepared, letting us skip the possible line. However, because my wife's info was not entered as a secondary driver, I went to the counter to get that added. That's when the counter agent told me that Budget allows automatic secondary drivers if a spouse and that I didn't need to stand in line since my car had already been reserved under by Fast Break number. Looking at other reviews for this place (and confirmed by the agent), lines can be VERY long at this location. In terms of getting to/from the rental location, it's not ideal: taking a dedicated shuttle devoted to Avis/Budget from the baggage claim area of the airport. You have to know that Avis and Budget are the same company, since once an Avis branded bus was there. This is old school, showing that each rental agency has to take take care of everything itself. The journey was more than 10 minutes long, so not particularly quick and not walkable. More modern systems will have one large generic shuttle running from the airport to the shared rental center, benefiting all renters. The best being able to take a airport train, which the newest airports have. We ended up getting a Mazda CX-30, which was perfect for the two of us. It was a newer model, with keyless entry and push button ignition. Because it was new, it had Car Play but only through a direct wire (not bluetooth). There was no cigarette lighter charging port, but instead only two USB-C ports (not the typical -A). This meant having to find a store that sold the C to A adapter, to make our navigation work. North Carolina doesn't have that many toll-roads so a transponder was not in the car. Dropping the car off was consistent to what we were expecting, considering how we had picked it up. You need to follow the signs for Budget, go through multiple tiger teeth barriers, park your car as directed by the attendant, and then wait under the hot sun until it's your turn. This took a while, and no receipt was given at this location. One was emailed to me soon after, but found out that the charge was about twenty more than the quoted price, with no explanation why. Will need to follow up on that, contacting Costco Travel first (one small disadvantage of not prepaying first).
