Excellent Korean food! Broad selection of dishes for all palates. Can be a bit pricey, but the quality is there to back it up. The interior is pretty bare bones, but I was there for the food so whatever. Came with a friend who also loves Korean food, and there were so many tempting options I'm sure we drove out server a bit nuts taking our time deciding. (Really she was great and just kept checking in.) We split an order of (Man do, fried dumplings) for an app. They were hot and crispy and delicious, and we should have ordered the small because we stuffed ourselves trying to finish them with our meals! For entrees, I ordered (bibimbap, a rice bowl served in a HOT bowl) and my friend ordered the (sofu tofu soup). Both came with sides - fish cakes, kimchi, potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Sides get refills, so just ask! My bowl was hot and delicious - and I added a bunch of spicy sauce to jazz it up. The dish isn't naturally spicy, so it's a good option for those who aren't into spicy or are new to Korean food. It's a hot bowl full of rice and meat and toppings like carrots and bean sprouts and a fried egg. Tasty without sauce, but I love spice in my Korean food! My friend's soup came with big chunks of veggies, tofu, and seafood. Hers was spicy, and she really liked it. This place has a nice little grab-and-go section for drinks and snacks. We used to like yewon since it's a decent korean restaurant, but this is the 2nd time when ordered the Ox bone soup and NO NOODLES ON IT!!! We asked the lady because on their description there is noodles included on it! And she doesn't want to listen, Very RUDE! She told us that when you take out there is no noodles on it, it DOESN't make sense at all. We're paying full price! And it should be the same if it's dining in or taking out. We ordered food through using the Yelp app. We ordered Tteok-bokki( spicy rice cake), and donkatsu. The tteok-bokki was ordered came with rice cake, ramen, an egg, fish cake, and mozzarella cheese. It was a good blend of spicy and sweetness. However, the rice cake was not as soft and bouncy as we have had/tried from other establishments. The donkatsu was crispy and did not taste oily. They finally started doing in door dining again so my bf popped in on Friday night to kick off the weekend. Hands down the only good Korean spot in RVA. The two ladies that were working were so nice. The restaurant also sells banchan and drinks if you're wanting to buy some to take home. We ordered: Sul lung tang: ox bone marrow soup with glass noodles and beef brisket. This soup is the go to / holy grail of foods to eat if you ever have a terrible hangover. You add your preferred amount of salt and green onions and eat it with rice and kimchi. This dish came with 3 banchan: pickled cucumbers, pickled radish, kimchi + a bowl of rice. Kimbap: rice, carrots, spinach, daikon, brisket rolled in seaweed paper. So good! It's especially great dipped in dukbokki. Spicy pork: Pork marinated in spicy sauce with onions and green onions. Super flavorful, but was a tad fatty. Also came with the 3 banchan + rice. My family and I went here yesterday for the first time and what a GEM! The food was actually authentic (which is very hard to find in Virginia), amazing & absolutely delicious. We went right before their dinner rush which was perfect because our food was out so fast! The husband and wife are an incredibly kind and patient duo. A couple of notes for new people as a newer patron: their are only 3 of them working so if you come during a rush please be patient. Updating my review from back in 2014 since they have new ownership now. After COVID, for a few years they were doing "counter" service and you weren't getting the "restaurant" experience which was fine but I love all the banchan side dishes like at a restaurant. I'm glad to say that they have since turned it back into a restaurant style service and you get assorted sides and you get refills of the sides which is the best thing about having it back the way it used to be. As for the quality and taste...it is AMAZING! My favorite is the KimChee JJigae which has so much rich flavor and packed with kim chee and pork! If you feel like you're getting sick and starting to run a fever, get yourself some of this and it's korean comfort food at it's best. We also get many other items and it's all been so good. I love good authentic Korean food and this place checked all the boxes once again. I moved to the Midlothian area during the early days of the Pandemic and am just now finally starting to hit the true specialty places. I'm a veteran who was stationed in S. Korea twice. I loved the food but hadn't found a really authentic restaurant in years. But I definitely did when I walked into Ye Won. The food was as delicious as I remember from all those years ago. The waitress was attentive but not overwhelming. She was knowledgeable on the products and didn't make us feel like we were asking silly questions when trying to understand the pairings. The owner was amazing. He really cared to come through and say hello to everyone. And the other guests seemed to be enjoying the experience as much as we did. Despite being fairly basic in atmosphere and presentation, YeWon does a proper job in offering delicious Korean food to a local no-frills, no-fuss part of the local area. The staff are friendly, food is prepared quickly, and over several visits or take away meals the food has been consistently delicious. The staff will help you in deciding your order and makes you feel welcome even if it is clearly your first visit.
