I used to love coming here, but recently my experience at this location felt messy and disappointing. While I was grabbing food, there was a worker replenishing the stock. The first time she stepped directly in front of me while I was reaching for food, I understood that she was doing her job. However, she did the same thing two more times, even while I was already reaching for something. It felt rude, especially since she never said "excuse me." I would have gladly moved aside if she had simply communicated with me. She could have also waited until I finished grabbing my food or let my boyfriend, who was standing behind me, know that she needed to step between us so we could wait for a moment. Instead, she repeatedly pushed through without saying anything. Then, when we went to the sauce bar, the lemon water container was empty, so we had to wait for a while before it was refilled. Unfortunately, I also noticed a strand of hair on top of my broth, which completely made me lose my appetite. As much as I love YGF, these experiences really affected my visit, and I'm not sure I would return to this specific location. read more

Located in a plaza with plenty of parking. There are a lot of other businesses in the plaza so don't be surprised if you have to park a bit further. On the bright side, I've never seen the complex full so there'll always be parking. The staff were very friendly about how to get started and grab the ingredients. YGF Malatang definitely lives up to the hype! The restaurant was packed, but the atmosphere still felt clean, lively, and welcoming. I really enjoyed how customizable everything was, from the fresh ingredients to the different noodle choices, it made the experience fun and personal. The broth was the highlight for me: rich, flavorful, and comforting without being overly heavy. We got #1 which is classic herbal it's not that spicy as they say more on the light mild spicy. However, #6 has no spice at all, so it's perfect for the kids. We got the chicken broth for them with their favorite udon noodles (there's so many types of noodles.) We paid around $45 with two bowls, it honestly fed my family of 4 and my daughter can eat, eat! :P You can really taste the quality in the food. Service was also smooth and efficient despite how busy it was, and the staff kept things moving quickly. Overall, one of the best malatang spots I've been to so far. I came with a party of six on a super busy day, and the place was absolutely slammed. When we received our food, I noticed my broth had been switched--I had ordered tom yum, but I received beef bone broth instead. I brought it up to the staff, and they immediately apologized and took care of it without any hesitation. Even though they were clearly overwhelmed with customers lining out the door, they handled everything so kindly and professionally. After they corrected the broth and brought my malatang back, the manager even came by several times to check on our table. This location is much smaller but the setup is about the same. You first grab an empty bowl and tongs then you pick your raw veggies/meats/noodles from the fridge that will be weighed and taken to the back for cooking. After paying at the register, we seated at an open table. There is a sauce bar at the back corner where you can diy your dipping sauce. There were popular sauce recipes on the wall for easy sauce creation. Overall, the ingredients were fresh and items are fully restocked to meet demands. One thing I wish this location includes self-serve ice cream at the end of your meal. But oh well, there's boba and dessert shops next door that I'm not complaining about. We usually go to another place in Renton which is pretty good but the selection of items here is much bigger along with more choices for the soup base. The sauce bar has handy recipes on the wall to follow. Everything is fresh and well stocked. The dining area is pretty big, well lit and open. I've tried both bone broth and tom yum soup base. Most of the time, I go with very spicy. But I feel that it's never really meeting the malatang hot I expected. Service: Friendly staff. After you paid for your food, they will check on your to see how many people in your party and assign a table for you. One thing I wanted to point out was that, I was getting sauces at the space bar. In the chili oil, there was a hair in the bucket of it. I had to notify the staff and I'm not sure if they replace it after. So it gave me an icky feeling about their sauce bar. The food is delicious, and they have made the process very efficient. First you line up along the right wall, where you can pick up a bowl and as you walk along you can grab all the things you want in your hot pot. The end of the line is the checkout counter, where you choose your broth and pay. Then you can go to your seat or wait for the next available as your brother and hot pot are being made. The sauce bar is on the left side of the shop, and have recipes for different kinds of sauce if you want inspiration. Note: you start with the fish balls & end with the meat, so keep that in mind as you add your ingredients! We ended up getting much more than we planned because the meat was at the end. A friend of mine introduced me to a hot pot restaurant in nearby Tukwila called YGF MalaTang. YGF is short for Yang Guo Fu. They have locations all across the country, but the one in Tukwila has only been open for a little over a year. This restaurant offers a very unique and fun experience. They offer a build-your-own hot pot concept. You pay by the weight and get to customize your bowl by selecting from countless ingredients. They offer an array of noodles, meats, seafood, and vegetables. They also have a sauce bar where you can customize your own dipping sauces, or sauces to add to your bowl. If you want to check this place out for the first time, I outline the process for you below. THE PROCESS: [1] Grab a clear bowl and your own tongs. The tongs stay with you until you pay at the counter. [2] Fill said bowl with as much as you want. Remember that you pay by weight. [3] Approach the counter. There's a bin to drop your used tongs in. They'll weigh your bowl and ask you which soup base or dry mix you want, as well as which spice level you want. You'll then pay and they'll assign your order a number. [4] Get creative at the sauce bar as your food cooks. They have little bowls to make your own sauce in. They even offer popular sauce recipes. [5] Grab your table and wait to hear your number called out. There is also a light display behind the counter so you can see what orders are complete. [6] When you go up to the counter to grab your bowl, don't forget to grab your napkins, spoon and chopsticks. They also offer bibs because part of the experience is slurping. INSIDER TIP: This place is ALWAYS busy. They do not take reservations. They opened at 11 AM and I got there at 10:30. By the time they opened, there was a line behind me. By the time I left, the line was almost to the door. I was told that by about 3 PM until they close, the line is oftentimes down the sidewalk.
