Came out here on a Monday for lunch and surprisingly it wasn't busy! Large restaurant, very clean, lots of seatings when you first enter This is pay by the lb at $14.99/lb a minimum of 1 lb and if you want to add lobster tail I believe it's $11.99 per tail. The veggies are fresh, lots of options and everything was clean and store properly. Once you pick out everything and add it to your bowl you go weigh it at the cashier Very much appreciate that they allow sample tasting of each broth. I went with the tom yum and I do like my tom yum on the sour side and it was! Overall: Excellent service, friendly staff, clean environment and yummy soup!

New malatang spot that's off to a solid start. Plenty of parking, and the space feels fresh, clean, and open. The ingredient selection is where they shine--lots of fresh options, especially on the seafood side. Crab legs and lobster in a build-your-own bowl? Say less. Soup base options had a nice variety. I went with the tom yum--it was decent, but don't expect traditional Thai flavors. It leaned a bit sweeter than expected. Sauce bar was just okay--limited choices and nothing standout, but it gets the job done. Overall: great setup, strong ingredient lineup, just a few tweaks needed to level up.

I love trying out new malatang spots, and this place may just replace my current favorite. Once you finish building your bowl and reach the register, they will actually let you taste samples of the broths before you order. I also love their assortment of cold drinks, and how attentive the employees were for a casual type of dining spot. The mala red beef broth was my personal favorite. It definitely gets very spicy if you order any higher than "Slightly" on their spice level.

First time here and I enjoyed my experience! They have a wide variety of items you can put into your hot pot. Very large seating area, they have multiple brothe to pick from which I definitely appreciate. The service was good, I love how you can sample the broth before trying, I got the curry which you won't see too often at most places. The soup itself was great, the meat was pretty impressive. Overall, I highly recommend and I would come back.

The service here was top notch. Came in and everything was clean with staff ready to hand you samples of the broth. I ordered the beef broth and it tastes almost like pho broth. Most of the broth is really sweet somehow. It was good to be able to try the broth before ordering and different spice levels for the beef broth. The space for seatings were pretty open. Parking is easy as well. I would come back here for a quick fix of soup since it is nearby. The passion fruit mango drink was so refreshing to pair with the perfect sweetness.

Clean broth that isn't too herby while still maintaining a good tom yum flavor! The selection of toppings is smaller than other places but the real star is the seafood selection such as snow crab, dungeness, scallops or even pay 11.99 for lobster tail! The 15 dollars a lb price comparable to competitors and service is actually more attentive. Definitely will visit on days I don't want to wait in line at YGF

We loved our date night at broth and bowls. The broth flavors were all yummy we couldn't decide. The chose your own toppings was a fun idea and we got to choose exactly what we wanted. We will be back soon

This place is similar to all the other Mala tang hot pot places. What makes the place better is the customer service. They're all nice and pleasant throughout our whole visit. They even opened the door for us to enter. They let you sample the different available broth flavors before you commit. This is the game changer especially because they're new. The place is clean and the ambiance is chill. This may become my favorite hot pot spot.

Wow, this place is amazing! The employees were super friendly and helpful whenever I had questions. The restaurant was also immaculately clean, which is always a huge plus. They have a self-serve sauce bar, plus complimentary orange water and iced tea if you don't order one of their specialty drinks -- but I'd still highly recommend trying their drinks because they're delicious! I came alone and truly enjoyed my meal and the cozy atmosphere. Definitely coming back again!

Pick your food by the pound ($14.99/lb) and choose your broth--such a fun and customizable dining experience! We tried the tom yum broth and it was fantastic--super flavorful with just the right balance of tangy and spicy. We also went for the stir-fry option, which unfortunately didn't have much flavor on its own. Thankfully, there's a sauce bar where you can mix your own sauces, which definitely helped elevate the dish. One small downside: the pumpkin wasn't fully cooked and could've been a bit softer. Overall, it was a great experience. The service was friendly, and the concept is enjoyable. Definitely a place we'd come back to!

I've had this bookmarked foreverrrrr, but finally had the opportunity to indulge for a leisurely lunch with family earlier today (6/6/26). Thankfully, the other three in our party had hot pot experience. I've only had shabu-shabu and malatang, once each time, today was my first hot pot culinary introduction. A family member had made reservations awhile back and this is strongly recommended as the check-in/reception area was packed by 1115 am. We were brought downstairs to our booth. Chilled lemon water was provided as each of us pondered our choices for our customized hot pots. After placing our orders via tablet, there were some snack items to peruse like chips, peanuts, edamame, and fresh fruit. Dipping sauces were prepped by our kind waitperson. There are also additional ones at the sauce bar to select from to further customize with your meal. I really liked the cucumber and Napa cabbage kimchee/kimchi as my accompaniment. Shortly thereafter our broths (tomato, spicy, creamy pork) were brought out, hot plates turned on. Platters of assorted vegies and greens, mushrooms, shrimp, quail eggs, lotus root, Spam slices, and tofu sheets, as well as, bowls of noodles and steamed rice were placed on our table. Nicely plated selected sliced meats were then brought out. We had selected wagyu beef, two sets of boneless beef short ribs, and lamb flap. As a newbie, I was overcooking my proteins, but eventually got the hang of it. This was my first meal of the day, so the portions brought out were generous and filling. The broths and water glasses were periodically refilled and waitstaff checking on us too. Likewise, one could have additional servings of noodles and rice. At the end, we were each provided with soft serve cones to cool and cleanse our palates. There is a time limit in order to turn the table over to be cleared for the next reservation. Also, make sure if parked in the underground lot, to bring your ticket along and have it validated at the check-in/reception stand. I'm glad I did this since our meal here and coffee/dessert at an adjacent site at The Bravern was four hours and saved myself from paying $18 - $21! An enjoyable, celebratory meal shared with family at The Dolar Shop!

Our go-to order is the beef and lamb platter, crab sticks, winter melon, potatoes, and their milk tea (which comes with free refills). The broth bases and ingredients are always absolutely flawless. However, instead of just reviewing the food today, I want to share some unique insights and perspectives from my background as a former restaurateur who used to own and operate a hot pot restaurant myself. The True History of Chongqing Hot Pot: Humble Beginnings In China, Chongqing hot pot was originally the ultimate food of the people. Back in the day, it was famously called "1-to-3" (1托3)--meaning meat dishes cost 3 RMB and veggies cost 1 RMB. Traditional Beijing mutton hot pot (Shuan Yang Rou) could never compete with that kind of price-to-performance ratio. True hot pot history spans only about a century. Chongqing hot pot originated with laborers working along the riverbanks. Because they couldn't afford premium cuts, they used various animal offal for dipping. Take Huanghou (黄喉 - Ox/Pork Aorta) for example: it is actually the main aorta of the animal. It requires meticulous, layer-by-layer peeling because only the middle layer is crunchy and edible. Similarly, while a cow has four stomachs, only the third stomach--the Omasum (牛百叶 - Beef Tripe)--is used for hot pot. All of these ingredients require intense, repetitive processing before they can ever hit the table. Why Hot Pot is Secretly an Exceptionally Healthy Food At its core, hot pot is a remarkably healthy way to eat. Nowadays, so many people suffer from cavities and tooth decay. When you boil it down, it stems from one major issue: eating too many carbohydrates. A Quick Evolutionary Detour: During the Paleolithic era, humans didn't eat rice or noodles because wheat and rice had not yet been domesticated. Once the Agricultural Revolution began, the proportion of carbs in the human diet spiked dramatically. When carbs enter the mouth, they break down into simple sugars. When these sugars meet oral microbes, they ferment into organic acids that attack our teeth. Human tooth enamel is incredibly strong--second in hardness only to diamonds--and under normal circumstances, it is designed to last a lifetime. Carbs destroy it. For example, Easter Island once had the highest cavity rate in the world; due to a lack of fresh water, locals relied on cassava and sugarcane juice. The massive amount of carbohydrates caused their teeth to rot starting at age 14, and by age 20, most had virtually no usable teeth left. I'm rambling a bit, but my point stands: because hot pot emphasizes fresh meats and vegetables over heavy carbs, it is inherently very healthy! The Science Behind the Flavor Another fascinating characteristic of Sichuan/Chongqing mala hot pot is the continuous simmering process. As the ingredients are repeatedly heated in the broth, the aromatic molecules are continuously re-released. Because of this chemical process, the longer it boils, the more fragrant and flavorful it becomes.
