The place was beautifully decorated & classy. Yi Ge 一哥 is the best authentic Cantonese Chinese cuisine that I have ever found in North Carolina. The chef and owner of this restaurant is actually a lady from Guangzhou. Her family was musician family and has a YiGe musical instrument shop in Guangzhou. They keep the name. We ordered a combo of toast duck, pork & BBQ Pork. We ordered the braised To Fu & a plate of water spinach. We also order a lb of braised chicken feet 鳯爪 to eat there (special order). Everything is super good. We didn't expect there's such a super high standard of Cantonese cuisine in this place. After we took a few bites, we decided to write a review for them. The pictures were taken after we had started eating. The portions are very reasonable. I was told that there were many more great dishes including Canton style Beef Chow Fun 乾炒牛河。 During weekends & Sundays, poached chicken, steamed fish, ask them for special menu. We had not been to Yi Ge in a couple of years, so we arrived only to find the building in the WalMart shopping center had gone dark. Fortunately, we noticed the sign in the front explaining that they had moved across highway 70 and are temporarily sharing space with Kobe. About 25% of Kobe has been repurposed to serve Yi Ge customers while the majority of the restaurant is still dedicated to teppanyaki. Yi Ge's menu hasn't changed, so we tried duck egg rolls for an appetizer and I ordered the Hong Kong tofu, a favorite, for my entree. The duck egg rolls were actually spring rolls and didn't have any taste of duck to them. They also arrived at the table lukewarm. My Hong Kong tofu was just OK - the serving was not especially generous, it lacked flavor despite having two different types of chilis, and arrived at the table lukewarm. Past versions of this dish from Yi Ge have been extraordinary: flavorful, a bit spicy, perfectly cooked, and hot out of the wok. My dining companion received a massive serving of chow ho fun and thought that hers rated an OK too. Despite the Kobe section of the restaurant being very busy, service in the Yi Ge part of the restaurant was friendly and attentive. Prices for our entrees were definitely above average. Was looking for some tasty lo mein, which can be difficult to find on a Monday because most Chinese joints near us are closed on Mondays. So happy that's not the case here. First visit. Great service. Coke products, iced tea. As authentic as you can get in NC. Plenty of Asian customers are a testament to that. Glad it's on joco. Tired of driving to Wake county for restaurants. My date had beef and mixed vegetables. He said could use a bit more spice, but the portion was great. I opted for something different and tried the Cantonese pan fried noodles with chicken. Another great portion, and loved the flavor of the fried noodles as they softened with the sauce. The vegetables were large cuts and added variety. The hot and sour soup was better than other take out Chinese, hearty with a nice vinegar bite. Portions were ample to have leftovers. This place in Clayton has some good authentic Cantonese cuisine. Taste wise the food was delicious. Where I have to dock some stars were the prices and service here. All of the dishes here were a good 5-6 bucks more than what I'm used to seeing in the RTP area. Take for example, I order beef chow ho fun for about 11 bucks in the triangle. Here it was 17 bucks. For 4 dishes, we ended up spending 100 dollars after tip and tax. The same amount of dishes I probably could have gotten away with spending around 60-70 dollars in RTP. That's a pretty big price gap. Service was also a bit on the slower side. There were about 3 other families dining in there with us so it wasn't a full house or anything but we ended up waiting around 20-30 min for the food to come out. And we had to ask for serving spoons after the food came out - should have automatically came out with some. Also had to swipe some eating utensils from another unused table. Like I said before, the food tasting amazing was the redeeming quality here but the prices and service left a lot to be desired. But then again taste is pretty good even in RTP joints. Also it wasn't like the portions were that much bigger than what I'm used to seeing in the Raleigh Durham area either. I'll stick with the authentic Chinese cuisines in the triangle. read more

We dined in and tried a few things. We had the ginger salad which is great. We had the steam Buns but didn't care for those at all. I had the noodle soup with dumplings and vegetables. It was fantastic. It had a broth, thin noodles, steamed carrots and celery and green onions. The dumplings are really good. The pork fried rice was as good as the soup. Coming from Northern Va / DC area ... we have lots of authentic asian options and this place is on par with some of the places in the DMV . So glad to see this place here .. Staff is always friendly and food is always yummy, definitely do yourself a favor and ask for a side of hot chili oil to spice things up a bit . Sorry for fowl language, but I got ducked. Hope to make a better review later on. This place could be pretty good. But I made the mistake of ordering the duck. My duck was in order - cold, mostly bone, what wasn't bone was fat, and it I looked really hard, I found some meat, but the meat was cold. Probably the grungiest restaurant meal I have had in a decade or more. Literally of the duck that was on my plate, 80% of it's mass was either bone or fat. The bone looked like it was cut through with a basement bandsaw. Really had to pick through the bone/fat to find the meat. I say this as a big, not-so-picky eater. I was really hungry, so what I should have done was sent it back, but I didn't. I mentioned all of this to the sever, in addition to him taking my plate of bone and fat, no discount, no refund. He was nice, not his fault really. My wife's dish was better, and good portion size. I ate some of hers and it was pretty good. She is the picky eater. Showed her my duck scraps and she pretty much said she would not be back, even though I want to give these guys another shot, avoiding the duck. Place was clean, our service was polite, friendly, and attentive, and we got in and out quickly. Menu was epically big. They could lose that duck, no one would notice, and they'll do a lot better. Best Asian food around! As authentic as you can get in North Carolina. The duck here was tender, juicy, and excellent. Even better than then duck found in Raleigh. We got their Peking duck with Lo Mein Duck and Pad Thai Duck. The noodle dishes and vegetables are perfectly seared and fried, and have that East Asian seared Umami taste in every bite of the food.
