Sizzling Beef - ordered this at the recommendation of a friend. Honestly to me, it tasted like the beef in the beef broccoli. The sauce had a weird back alley Chinatown taste that I can't put my finger on, but I recognize. Not allspice, but some other funky flavor. Didn't care for this dish at all. They have a variety of Chinese/Asian foods. I normally get the house noodle special noodles, walnut shrimp, fried rice, mapo tofu, and the pork dish with veggies on the sizzling platter. All are delicious. My repeat order every single time is the fried green beans. They also have steamed fish and fresh lobster. I prefer the steamed fish to be served with ginger. It's not on the menu but if you request, they honor it. The service was prompt whenever we went during lunch. I usually ask for a spoon for my 3 year old niece because she's not that efficient with a fork yet. Delicious food, cute decor and friendly staff. We enjoyed this delicious Hong Kong style eatery with well-balanced and interesting Cantonese and Malaysian flavors. Our favorites were salted egg chicken wings, black bean crab, salt and pepper shrimp, custard dessert, bear ice cube drink with lemon iced tea, calamansi juice and even the simple garlic ong choy was tasty without the sambal or shrimp paste. The curry crab was quite creamy and mild. We also loved the decor from photos of Hong Kong to the cute collection of lucky cats, double decker buses and condensed milk tea set...all very specific references to HK. The price point was also very reasonable for such fresh and yummy food. Parking is free and convenient at Market city on weekdays but can get crowded on weekends. My boyfriend and I love coming here every time we are in Hawaii. The owner and her workers are always so friendly and make the experience that much more enjoyable. My favorite items here are the egg yolk chicken wings and Thai style pork cheek. The egg yolk wings are perfectly fried yet still moist on the inside. The batter is light and airy and the egg yolk really shines through in this dish. The Thai style pork cheek is decadent and tastes delicious even without the Thai style sauce. The beef chow fun, in contrast, was unfortunately too salty for my boyfriend and I's taste buds during our dinner outing. I've been wanting to try this spot and finally took the chance. Maybe Instagram and other social media hyped it a little too much or maybe tonight was just an off night. It started out great and we were able to be seated fairly quickly but then things took a bad turn. While the server brought us water right away it took a good 15 minutes after, maybe even more, before I had to flag down a server to place our order. Mind you the server was about to take someone else's order who was sat after us, even though we were waiting....and waiting. I was trying very hard to be patient because it was fairly busy but to feel like everything else and everyone else was a priority was quite annoying. The space is small and fairly crammed. My chair was bumping into the party behind me. So fair warning, you'll have to suck it in to sit down. The food was okay. Again, maybe I just set my expectations high because of social media but it's nothing I'd crave to try again. Could be a combination of the bad service as well. We just moved our business to the Kapahulu area and are excited to Yelp our way around! The night before, we noticed the amount of people going in and out of the doors of Yi Xin Cafe and decided to give it a try. The great Yelp reviews were an extra bonus for us. We went for a late dinner on a weekday and were greeted very pleasantly and seated right away. This was a cute restaurant that was much bigger than we thought. They had so many options on their menu that we definitely had to take a moment to look it over. We were both extremely hungry, and everything looked really good. We eventually settled for the beef omelette and salt and pepper chicken bites with rice. I really enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken bites; they were perfectly crispy and super flavorful. I will definitely be back for more of them! My other half preferred the beef omelette. It was also flavorful and saucy, just how he enjoys his food. He topped his meal off with a milk tea. I tried Yi Xin Cafe when it first opened and thought it was just okay. But today, I was in the area and decided to give it another shot--and I'm so glad I did! The food here is leaps and bounds better than before, marking it as now one of my favorite spots for Chinese food! You're not going to get a mix of flavors like these anywhere else: a fusion of Hong-Kong, Malaysian, and Singaporean flavors and dishes. Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken: This is a MUST ORDER and my favorite dish on the menu so far. They err on the side of a crunchy batter, but surprisingly I didn't mind at all as it maintained light and airy. The salted egg yolk sauce was absolutely delicious and umami-filled. I could eat this whole plate myself! House Special Rice Noodles: This was basically what other Hong-Kong cafes would call "Country-style vermicelli noodles." It's stir-fried vermicelli noodles with shrimp, pork/beef, sour cabbage, and bean sprouts. I absolutely loved the wok hei on this dish and they fried their proteins really well. I also just love how well they season their food here! Malaysian Fried Rice: It's definitely not your typical fried rice, though personally, I would skip this one. It's a good dish to try for first timers as I think it is the best representation of all the fusion flavors, but I think I would prefer the other foods on their menu. I started off the New Year with wanting to eat my feelings in crab and Yi Xin was the first place that came to mind. I hadn't had it in a year, but it definitely lived up to the memory. The green beans and eggplant were so ono, I honestly wasn't expecting it to be that good but I just wanted to eat it all. I may come back just to get that. The real star of course was the chili crab- fresh, well prepared, seasoned- sweet and spicy, it was everything I was craving to try to start the new year off on the right foot. It came out quickly and after we asked we got gloves, crackers and the little tool. The spice for the sauce was perfect and the brains were sooooo good. It was great dipping the crab in the sauce. By the time we sat down and put our order in it it was already 8:00. It's family style but doesn't say that specifically and we weren't told. Yi Xin Cafe could be one of the best standing restaurants in town today. My wife and I first visited Yi Xin Cafe for their instagram-able frozen bear iced tea a couple years back. Since then, my family has come back several times for special occasions like birthday celebrations, holidays, and in a more recent case, catering - which is mostly what I'll be sharing today. It's suggested/recommended that you book your catering orders a day in advance. However, by the time we saw the special, Yi Xin was already closed for the day and our party was planned for the next day. I made plans for the following morning to get there as soon as they opened - and that's what we did. At 10:45am, we arrived at the restaurant itself (optional) and essentially asked if it was too late to put in a catering order for that very day. Thankfully, they agreed to help us out with this order and the day was miraculously saved. We got two trays of their famous dry beef chow funn which is a fan favorite with a perfectly balance dish of soft and tender beef, veggies, and noodles complimented with the ever sought after wok hei flavor. On top of that, we also ordered a tray of their salted egg yolk wings which is a must-have. Though I believe their catering serving size came with what I believe was 30 wings - thinking we would need 2 wings per person, we asked to add on another two servings - to which they were able to oblige for a total of 40 wings. Set to pick up at 4:15pm - paid on the spot and gave that discount right back in tips and more for helping us out on such a short notice. Then we were off to the races to pick up other food. Come back 4:10pm, I walk through the door and they were just finishing up the last order. Before the clock strikes 4:15pm, they help me stack the boxes and I was on my merry way to pick up the last set of food before heading back for the party. There aren't a lot of places I can trust with my food as much as I do with Yi Xin Cafe. Their staff is always accommodating, the food is top notch, and the price is just overall reasonable for the sheer quality of food you're getting.
