Yiassoo you have never failed me. Most recent trip I got a Gyro Salad with a side of fries hahaha. Failed attempt at healthiness. Food was delicious as usual. Only issues I had was that there wasn't enough of the tzatziki sauce for the huge salad. My ratio of salad to sauce was definitely lacking. Best darn gyros in the south bay, hands down. I'm from Chicago, and truly took gyros for granted in my youth. Moved out here and stumbled on some crappy attempts at gyros. Being that Yiassoo is right near our house, I have been there several times. I didn't realize it was considered such an amazing place until I heard so many people suggest it. It is great, the servings are huge. I love their gyros (the only thing I've had), and I would definitely suggest it to someone looking for a good gyro. Went here today with CNP. She got the gyro plate, I got the falafel plate, both came with a Greek salad and fries. My Greek salad was fair, nothing especially wonderful, but not disgusting. My falafel sandwich was very large, and somewhat difficult to eat. Unfortunately, I found the falafel to be really bland, so I wasn't particularly interested in eating it. My fries were great, however. Piping hot and crispy, and the spicy ranch-esque sauce that they give you with the salad is great for dipping your fries in. CNP said her gyro sandwich was great, though. The guy taking my order was really friendly and they bring your order right to your table, so the service was great. This place serves Greek fast food. I usually get the gyro lunch special, which includes a gyro and a side of fries with a soft drink. I love the hot pita bread that my gyro comes on, and it's filled with delicious slices of meat, chopped onions and tomatoes, and sauce. Warning: you will have major onion breath afterwards, so if you're planning on going back to work after lunch, bring an entire pack of gum. The last time I went I also felt really dehydrated for the rest of the day. I'm not sure if my gyro was just particularly salty that one day, because usually I feel fine. read more

2 stars. I don't know if I came on a bad night or what, but I was not impressed with almost everything we had that night. I came with my sister's family and the only thing that was somewhat good was my nephew's lamb. Everything else we had, pretty terrible. I mean, terrible like they had no idea what real Greek food tastes like. Very Americanized so I found the food just super bland. Again, maybe it was the cook that particular night as everyone else seems to think this place is good. This place is great. Excellent Greek food with a few more menu options than a lot of other Greek restaurants in the area. They offer falafels as well, which seems to be on a lot of Bay Area Greek menus. I'm a big fan of Pastitsio (a lasagna-like dish with pasta, spiced ground beef, cheese and bechemel sauce), and this place makes a good one. This pastitsio is not "saucy"... I'm not sure if that's the best way to describe it, but I've some pastitsio has a marinara-like sauce mixed in with the beef. I don't have a preference, but it might be noteworthy for some of you. The place is unpretentious and low-priced: Your food comes out on a plastic tray with paper plates, and it is delicious. The meatballs are worth trying, as is the Greek coffee and loukoumades (donut-like puffs served with honey). The staff is very friendly and take pride in their food. +They serve Coca-Cola products and have fresh-brewed iced tea. read more

Gyro wrap here is delicious and super filling! I normally always just order the gyro wrap by itself and always have trouble finishing all the meat because they give you SO much! Sometimes I want to order fries or try the super gyro plate but I hold back because I know it's seriously so much food. The pita for the wrap is super soft. Love the taziki sauce and the fresh tomatoes. This is a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I've been meaning to try this place out for awhile, but I always end up getting side-tracked when I'm out this way. Today, though, I finally stopped in here for lunch with a friend. I had a gyros sandiwch with added feta (which came with fries), and a small order of hummus. I've had Greek / Mediterranean food before, but somehow I've never had a gyros before. Overall, I thought it was pretty yummy. The meat felt flavorful, and it didn't get hidden behind the toppings in the sandwich. The hummus was pretty yummy, and while it wasn't the best I've had at a fast food joint, it wasn't bad! Also, I gotta say that service was pretty friendly! I wasn't blown away by the food, but I was pretty happy with it. I just wish my side of town had something similar. They had a stack of menus for Mykonos Café (which I guess is owned by the same people and is actually on my side of San Jose) so I think I'll give that place a try and see how it is. The rain pounded Campbell and I had been studying for an intense examination and needed a break. I wanted something different. I"m thinking some Opa Opa fast food to quell the ravenous tiger today. Fired up the BMW M3, and cruised over to Yiasso's Greek diner. Walked in from the rain and felt the warm air greet me the clean dark tables shone spotless, big windows let in the sun and separated me from the rainy day. Only one other person was there, sitting on the other side reading a novel. Of course, there is the familiar Greek theme of white and blue colored tiles. It was calming. An attendant quickly greeted me. I wanted something lighter today, so I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate. Comes with a generous amount of freshly charbroiled boneless chicken, an even larger portion of Greek style rice, six pieces of pita and a large tomato cubed with slices of red onion and green bell peppers. Price $10.95. The chicken was charbroiled just right and tastey. They are good sized pieces, def. not skimping here! the rice was ok, it did taste like it was made with chicken broth. The side tomato salad was outstanding: fresh fresh hunks of tomato covered with shreds of fresh Greek feta cheese. And the pita was good as well. I could not finish all the food. All in all, still a good value. Thanks Yiasso for being open on a rainy day. Tip: two could split this souvlaki plate. I want to try their lamb with salad. read more

One of my favorites for quick, cheap, and nearby food. I almost always get the Falafel sandwich and fries. Their falafel is better than average, and I love their fries (especially with their ranch-ish salad dressing). Also, their hummus and pita (which they grill before serving) is cheap and great. Besides the food, the service is always quick and friendly. They also keep the place pretty spotless, and they remodeled their tables/interior within the last few months. Wow I can't believe I never wrote a review for Yiassoo. I've seen businesses come and go on this section of Bascom av over the years (I grew up right down the street) but I always wondered about this one as a kid, and one day as an adult I decided to expand my food IQ and "Go Greek" It probably wasn't here that I had my first gyro, but I returned here for gyros many times. A combo plate is about 7 bucks, comes with a greek salad and everything is brought to your table. Drink isn't included in a combo, but there are free refills on soda. After you're done eating there is a variety of different greek pastries for your choosing. It's the no frills, decently priced and consistently good food that garnered a 5 star review from me. read more

Stopped by for lunch with a friend. Wow. The meat was so flavorful in the gyro, and I loved the (um...tzitki?) sauce. I got the platter which came with a large portion of tomato/cucumber salad in a vinaigrette which I liked...needed to add salt & pepper which were right there on the table & easy to find. I chose french fries over rice and they were good...not super crisp but they weren't flaccid fries either. I didn't need catsup with them. I'll be back. Came here with my beau since we were in the area during lunch time. Decided we would give the gyros a try. I had the super gyro myself (not as big as I would expect)-it came with feta cheese sticks. Price was about $8-9. My beau ordered the lamb burger lunch combo for $6.50 which was really a good deal. It also came with fries and the portion was pretty hefty. It wasn't a really a burger since it came with the same wrap as the gyro. If I had to do it again, I would get this special deal. There is some outdoor seating so that was nice. read more

Not a fancy place (you order, pay, sit and be served) in a casual atmosphere with a mixed crowd. The food, however, is my opinion deserves good rep, as is really good. I had the gyros salad and was delicious and fresh veggies. Good taste and big quantity. What is the difference between a gyro, gyro plate, combo gyro, combo gyro plate and super gyro plate? They gotta put a description next to the menu items. I opened to the super gyro plate because I wanted to "super" my meal and try everything....kinda like supersizing your meal at McDonalds. I forgot that this place didn't offer rice, but instead french fries. The super gyro plate is a gyro wrapped in a pita bread, small greek salad and fries. I can only imagine that the gyro plate, combo gyro, gyro plate maybe comes with/without fries and/or salad. The gyro was overflowing with goodies...delicious! It came with a white sauce, cucumber, tomato and lamb meat. The lamb gyro meat had good flavor. Fries were fresh, but your ordinary fries. Salad had huge chunks of tomato, cucumber, couple pieces of feta cheese and couple of olives. The pita bread was nice and fluffy..mmm... I don't care for the hot sauce, a tad too smoky for me. This place used to be a favorite cheap and fast Medditteranean place of mine. Until, of course, the manager (only man in dress shirt and tie) tried to rip me off at the register! Beware: If you order a la carte... Make sure you keep tabs on what they charge you in comparison to the menu. For instance, I ordered 2 (small) chicken souvlaki skewers without the fries. In the past, I was charged around 2 dollars for them. My last visit here he charged me 4.95! Which is more than what the menu stated as 2 skewers WITH fries! Absolutely RIDIC!!! Also, I asked for a simple green salad w/o tomatoes for about 2.50 and he charges me around 5 bux for a Greek salad which is primarily made with tomatoes! When I pointed this discrepency out to him he tried to laugh it off and blame it on the register. Really guy? Really? I showed him the prices on the menu and he gave me a dollar back. Ugh. Yesterday, when checking out the Yelp Ap on the iPhone, I saw that in my "Friends" category - my "Elite Mentor" Connie C - raved about Yiassoo. I had heard a little about it in the past, but Connie's review made me want to try it now. She said something like "move over Opa, there's a new best gyro in town." Those were big words vs my favorite Greek spot. I walked in and the friendly dude behind the counter took our orders. I got the Super Gyro Combo - which is a large gyro, fries and Greek salad. Dude gave me the salad immediately, and it wasn't great. It lacked freshness, but was aight. A few minutes later, he dropped off the entrees and it was time for daddy to go to town. The gyro was pretty huge - it was spilling out gyro meat, tomatoes and sauce. I added some hot sauce and jumped in. It was a really good gyro, but I took the feta cheese off. I like fresh crumbled feta, this was more like a "stick of feta." It was hard and threw the gyro off. Once I pushed it aside, I was a happy man. The french fries were also damn good. Served thick and piping hot. I also had the chocolate rolled baclava - it was delicious as well. However, the gyro isn't even close to Opa. I'd go five stars on the food only, (ambience be damned), if not for the fact that Greek spots that serve Kronos meat lose points with me. It's good, but not as authentic as what could be had in other countries. They don't skimp on the portions here, though... The tzatziki and hot sauce (not Tapatio like at other places) in squirt bottles are a nice touch for a glutton like me. Way overpriced for what we got. Kids chicken nuggets was subpar. Greek sandwich was kind of bland. Greek salad was small and on this day, the cucumbers tasted funny. I asked for something else and the cook said if he made a new salad it would still have cucumbers. Well duh. So I asked if he could just give me a falafel sandwich. It tasted ok. It's too small. Mind you, I am not a fat person, just a fatty at heart. I can eat two of these and then be full. Oh my goodness I love this place. I drive about 25 minutes to get here, and it's so worth it!!!! I'm a fan of Greek food to begin with, but hands down, this is just like being back over there! My boyfriend and I go all the time! The staff is super nice, the food comes out quick, and every single thing on that menu is ridiculously good. If you don't mind spending the equivalent of what you'd pay for a meal from Wendy's, you will LOVE the healthy aspect of it as well.
