This has become my family's go to for either a quick bite or something we know we will like and the kids will too. Being a SJ veteran I remember when this place had another location off of Meridian where the old Mervyn's was. Ahh, those were the days. It's too bad that is gone now but Yiassoo lives on via their Bascom location. I get the Yiassoo veggie plate and it's fantastic. It has a mix of falafel, hummus, dolmas, etc. This is a great option for vegetarians and the portion is nice sized. My wife and the kids usually get the gyro or gyro salad. Solid choices for the carnivores which never disappoints. Service is good, the girl who takes your order in the past has had a little bit of attitude at times but she seems better now. I was craving Mediterranean food after a few beers with a friend so we hit this spot. When we arrived to the spot, it looked like someone's home but once you enter, the smell of sizzling meat and fries will make your mouth water! I took some time to look over the menu and finally decided to get the gyro plate. They did not ask me what meat I wanted, so I was assuming it was beef? My friend ordered a regular gyro. When our food came, my plate was huge! A nice chunky gyro with meat and sauce, a side salad with fresh tomatoes, cucumber, onions, and feta cheese -- and two handful of pipping crispy fries. They also served me three bottles: ketchup, yogurt, and sweet chill sauce. As if I was going to use them all. LOL. My friend only had a puny gyro and was more dissatisfied with his plate. After decorating my gyro with a spoonful of yogurt, I took my first bite into Arabian Nights. Mmm, it was very flavorful and delicious! The fries were not soggy and had a firm, crispy texture that was perfectly compatible with my gyro. The fruits and vegetables in the side salad was juicy, clean, and refreshing. What a lovely experience! If I lived anywhere closer to Campbell, I definitely would be a regular customer. I found this place by accident. I was surfing the web for a place that has good salads in san jose. I came across a site called dishtip and they listed yiassoo as having one of the best salads so I decided to try it. OMG! Delish!! It's nothing fancy but it's clean and they have nice outdoor seating.The staff is super helpful and friendly, and the chef brings your order out to your table. I ordered the gyro salad and hubby ordered gyro plate that came with fries and a salad. The salad, the gyro, and even the fries were so so flavorful and good. I have been dining at Yiassoo on Bascom avenue regularly and the quality of the food is always at the highest level. It's fresh, delicious and authentic. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Consistently great food from here and currently my go-to for Greek. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because my Gyro is usually too salty and that's something I've noticed from the other Greek places I've tried and it's disappointing to be honest-like why can't the chefs just try the food themselves and they'll notice it too. Horrible service .. wow!! We came here for a family lunch with our 3 young kids. The very rude 'owner' spoke down to us during the ordering process. We ordered $50 worth of food and after asking for sauce to accompany the kids gyros side-plate, she wanted to charge us extra?? How does a $8 plate of ONLY meat not come w any type of tzaziki? These owners make you feel like they're doing You a favor to serve you. Horrible business. Perhaps she was irritated because we interrupt her lunch when we walked in to order? I'm a big fan of lamb and Yiassoo makes a mean lamb gyro. Their gyros are reasonably priced and packed with meat and veggies. I really liked their red sauce, which has a slight spicy kick. My only gripe was that it was so full of stuff it was less of a "wrap" and more of a greek taco. Very messy. read more

You never know what your going to get with this place. This was one of my favorite restaurants in the bay area until recently. I still find myself coming here once a week, but the last two times i went i had my order seriously messed up. I ordered 2 gyro plates and received one and a gyro salad. When i called to tell them of the mistake they said "You must have ordered it incorrectly." "How can i help you?" "Two Gyro Plates." I would have taken the blame if i would have said "One gyro plate and then one more gyro plate." Then at least i could have seen how she misheard me. He didn't offer to fix the problem at all. If your in the restaurant business at least offer to fix the meal and give them the correct order. Don't blame your customers and then creat potential situations like this where they complain over a vast network. Otherwise this place is awesome. Still one of my favorites. I feel like a young greek child everytime he starts to tie by plastic bag for me as i prepare to skip off into the sunset with my amazing meal. read more

YUM! Great lunch spot - fast service and delicious food! It was a tough call btwn the gyro and the gyro salad. Sometimes you just don't want extra filler (in this case, the pita). But I went with the gyro plate (gyro sandwich, rice or fries, and greek salad), and couldn't be happier!! The pita isn't too thin or hard like other places, but a nice fluffy pillow. And a regular gyro was certainly more than enough for me. I wonder how big the super is! We also got the chicken souvlaki plate and my husband said the meat wasn't dry at a all. Always a good sign. We got the order to go and while they gave the tzatziki white sauce, I didn't get any hot sauce in the bag. So make sure to ask/check before you leave!! Overall, at almost $10 for a gyro or a chicken souvlaki plate, it's not the cheapest, but it's definitely solid fare and super satisfying for lunch. Co-worker said let's get some Gyros and we went to Yiassoo. I've never been before so I was excited to try it. Being my first time, I didn't want to stray away from the Gyro so I went with what they call the Gyro plate. It comes with the Gyro, fries, and a salad cup, which is composed of tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and a stick of feta cheese with an italianish dressing. Wasn't a big fan of the salad, but the gyro made up for it. I also got to try the falaffel balls since one in my party got some and I wasn't very impressed with that either. It might be because I'm spoiled with falaffels from Falaffel Drive In. All in all, Gyros are excellent and I would skip the salad and falaffel balls next time. read more

The four stars are for the Gyros and the Gyros only. They are great, the accompanying sauces are great, and if they weren't ridiculously not good for you I'd eat them everyday. As for the sides I've had, not so good. Want fries with that? No, you don't. I think they are just the frozen kind from the supermarket refried, but I'm not sure. Either way they are a disgrace to the French fry community. The Greek Salad is really stretching the term salad and really isn't good or a good deal. I've been coming here for over 8 years now and I've still only had one thing off their menu. The gyro combo never ceases to please. Always hot, made to order, and will definitely fill you up. The tzatziki sauce is fantastic and the last bite is just as good as the first. They also have this hot sauce which is pretty mild, but I like to dab it on for the flavor (I have a weak spot for condiments). Sadly, I can't speak much about the rest of the menu as I've yet to try it. Judging from their gyro, it's safe to say the rest of what they have to offer can't be all that bad. But the way I look at it, if I can keep coming back to one place after all these years to have just the one item, you gotta at least give it a try! read more

The service was friendly and reasonably speedy. The dolmathes were yummy - five or six if them on the plate, which I thought was good value. The plain baklava was much drier than I prefer but the chocolate version was moist. Hubby liked his gyro sandwich. Bummed about the styrofoam dishes and single-use cutlery for eating in. Surveying all the waste on the table makes it hard to feel 100% enthused about the meal. I went here for dinner. I wanted an easy yet delicious dinner plus I wanted something Mediterranean and this place was recommended. I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate and my boyfriend got the combination (lamb, beef & chicken) souvlaki plate. The food at this one is better than the one off De Anza. I love the gyros and the staff is super nice. I got they gyro plate and there was so much food I couldn't even finish it all. Picked this place to try because of the ratings. My husband and I were looking for some comfort food and I decide a gyro was the ticket. There were lots of ppl here, so we decided to step in. The meat in gyros I have gotten at other places has always been very disappointing (dry, tasted funny, etc.), but at Yiassoo, I was pleasantly surprised. I tried #1 and I am hooked! I love that they don't skimp on the cucumber yogurt sauce. You get an additional bottle of that to add and a nice red chili sauce to throw some fire in the mix. I was on my way back home and wanted to find a Gyros place off the freeway and found this gem. I love Gyros sandwiches and try them wherever I can. This place had one of the better Gyros Sandwiches I have had in the Bay Area. The meat was tender with no well done or burnt pieces (like other places that reheat the meat too many times) so very fresh, lots of meat, very good sauce, diced tomatoes and onions so good ratio of both to the rest of the ingredients, excellent sauce, pita bread was super soft and everything was warm...you can't get any better than that for a great Gyros Sandwich. The bummer is that the fries didn't seem fresh, lukewarm and limp which means they weren't cooked long enough. My biggest disappointment is that I saw a Gyros salad after I placed my order and it looked even better with lots of Gyros meat...yummy...next time. If the fries had been better they would have been a 5 so I had to drop a star but I'll try the onion rings next time. read more
