You won't find a better performance Subaru shop in Southern California. I've been building a 2.5RS coupe STi swap for a couple of years. Prior to bringing the car to Paul to tune I had the car stripped to the bare chassis in my garage. Despite the fact than I am abundantly capable of doing just about anything to these cars I went to Yimi sport to do some final sorting out and tune. Paul has a wealth of knowledge about Subarus that is unparalleled and his fine tuning of part selection and installation makes meaningful improvements in how the finished tune comes out. Anybody with enough time and a bit of technical ability can tune a Subaru, but what Paul does is magic. He will give you back a car that not only puts the numbers down, but does so in the most refined way possible. My RSTi idles as well as a BMW straight six, is smooth, linear, is devoid of stumbles, hiccups, issues with cold start and all the foibles that these EJ's have. You probably can't believe an EJ can run like that if you have had a couple, but Paul is a master at his craft. If they were not an hour drive from me I would not even bother to do my own maintenance anymore as I would trust that they would comb over the car and catch anything I might casually miss in my hurried evenings trying to squeeze in time to wrench on my toy. My last used oil report showed elevated aluminum and copper. While she still runs like a dream, I'm already planning on having Yimi sport rebuild her heart. Fuel smell in vehicle immediately after picking car up after a very delayed engine build. Was told it was spilled fuel and it would go away. 2 weeks+ later, still stunk like fresh gas. Owner made me pay for their mistake. Less than 10k miles on the build and nothing but problems and they want me to pay for diagnosing. a couple months late, but finally got retuned by Paul.. I made 336 whp 375 wtq on a different shops dynapak/dynojet Paul recalibrated my car on the same exact setup and I made a nice 355/436 on Pauls mustang dyno. All in all expectations are the same from this shop and they didn't disappoint. only complaint this time was the super friendly doggo trying to steal my girlfriend away hahah pros: clean, air conditioned waiting room, snacks and refreshments, free wifi, very straight forward employees that don't beat around the bush cons: dyno cameras are still broken *not really a con you're just watching the wheels on the bus go round and round lol read more

Brought my car here for a diagnose and repair for an oil leak/seepage around one of the hoses close to the turbo (this ended up being the pcv hose). Paid $125 for them to basically change a lower hose clamp. 3 months and 6000 miles later, did my oil change and noticed it was leaking again at the same spot, called them up and told me to come back in. Now they tell me the lower part of the hose seem thick and the clamp just can't hold enough pressure to seal the hose, blamed the subaru design for it. So what they did was cut up the oem hose and put in an L joint and connect it to another hose (see pic, the one they did was on the left, an oem one on the right) . I'm not a certified mechanic by any means but from a business that suppose to be reputable, that just looks horrible and pretty sure decrease performance from all that restriction. Paid $15 for that ghetto "repair". 6000 miles and couple months later, had to do my oil change again, looked under there and of course it still leaking at the same spot. Called them up again to tell them about the problem and possibly get a refund since nothing was actually fixed. Through our converstion, it was certain paul wasn't going to do a refund. Insist that they stand by their work and that something else is going on. Told me to wipe the leak and check it again after a couple of thousand miles to make sure and to come back in if its still there. At this point, i decided to take my losses, no way I'm going back to a shop that misdiagnose the car twice and pay more for repairs Did research of my own, found out this problem has a Subaru TSB. Apparently, the problem comes from the upper connector not having a good seal, not the bottom where yimi tried to fix twice. Part cost about $25, and takes 10-15 mins with basic tools. No leak after 10000 miles So overall, personally not a good shop despite having a 5 star review. Probably good for customers who wants to buy their products and installing aftermarket parts, but not diagnostic and repairs. read more

This is a bit overdue I had my car tuned last year in august but went straight to boot camp right after. I just want to say thank you guys for coming through it was on a real tight pinch of time. My car made 323whp/323 wtq Paul said he didn't expect much from the turbo I was running, it was a turbo from a manufacture in Vegas called twisted motion. He seemed a little disappointed but honestly I couldn't be happier. I drove it across country due to where I'm stationed and it held up well, it's driven in snow and it's great thank you all so much, I bought my injectors, turbo inlet , blow off valve, and boost solenoid for this build at the same time. It was only suppose to be a dyno session and ended up being more , but I was so strapped on time for leaving so it was absolutely worth it. MJ was excellent in communicating and I felt like I was really taken care of. Waiting for the car there on dyno day didn't bother me either. They have a really nice lobby with snacks and I got to sit and watch Netflix on their big Tv which is comforting. It's amenities like this that make all the difference. I would and probably will buy another Subaru build it just so they can tune that one too. I'm glad they squeezed me in and took care of it. I hope we can do more business in the future. read more

This is my second time coming to this shop. The first time I came here was before they move to the new location and before the change in management. The first time I came here I was very happy with there service and the price was very reasonable and fair. This shop has a very good reputation in the Subaru community and on the online forums, so I decided to come back again. I needed a brake pedal support bracket install, a clutch cylinder support bracket, and a brake cylinder support bracket install. I called for a quote and made an appointment. When I arrived, it all went down hill. They had trouble installing everything and the price for the install/labor kept going up. Also my clutch pedal was squeaking and I ask them if they could take a look at it since they were already working around that area with brake pedal support bracket install. Well Karil charged me $125 Diagnostic fee (which is an hour cost of labor) when it took them maybe 5 minutes to figure out and they were already working in that area. I called him out on this and he took half off. In the end they could not install the ITS brake pedal support bracket. He said they need to take out wheel and etc just to install it and the cost of the install kept going up. I decided not to install it. I took the brake pedal support bracket to my regular shop and they installed in about an hour with no experience at all with this aftermarket part. read more

First off, IDK much about cars nor do I pretend to know. All I know is that I wanted my '19 WRX to be faster but reliable (especially in this heat), and a little louder but not obnoxiously loud and more responsive. I had a problem with my car lagging a little bit when I stepped on the throttle. (It should be noted that I had a Cobb access port running a stage one plus map). I told Paul this and he was a sweetheart and was patient enough to explain to me what he was going to do with my car in layman's terms. Paul tuned my car and a top mount intercooler was installed as well as an electronic boost control solenoid and EGR deletes. My car now runs so much better: more responsive/no more lag, faster, and the rumble is more consistent. My dude who owns a '17 STI has had his car worked on here several times before and Paul did wonders on it. We come here b/c these guys are honest (sometimes brutally honest but that's the best kind of honesty) know their sh1t and their work is of quality. read more

For the past year, I have been looking for a place that will take my completely stock Subaru family car since I moved out into SCV (not a fan of dealerships for maintenance). I called them up, made an appointment, and got my car maintained. They were friendly and professional. They also didn't mind there were no modifications to my car, so you can stop any generalizations or stereotypes. They will work on completely stock to heavily modified Subarus.
