Our waiter was nice. The person who brought us our food was incredibly rude. We received some chopsticks with a green spot on them, we were not going to be eating with them so we asked for some different one and received a nasty response and she didn't want to give us another one. She finally grabbed one from another table and handed to us then proceeded to throw the ones we had given back to her into a random bucket in the room. Yo shi is a regular stop for our family. The food is always fresh, made quickly, and has the best sushi in town if you ask me. The spicy salmon is my favorite. I came in on a Thursday night and had a wonderful experience because I had the whole place to myself and the food was excellent! I was happy to have such a personalized experience since I had 2 people serving me and only me, and I was planning to get some work done on the computer so it was nice to not worry about noise level. I ordered sashimi, a roll, and a steak hibachi dinner. The salmon sashimi was very fresh and buttery soft. I had intended to order the filet mignon hibachi, but they were out of filet and only had ribeye steak. I was not sorry!!! It was extremely tender and cooked exactly how I ordered - medium rare. I stoped in for lunch at Yo Shi on 4/23 for lunch. I had a taste for sashimi & was satisfied to find that they had a good variety of Japanese dishes & a good lunch special section of their menu. I had sashimi, the mushroom soup, a tempura udon dish and shrimp shumai / appetizer dumplings. I got the mushroom soup first & the broth was hot but not scalding. All the subsequent dishes were very well cooked & tasty. The tempura were breaded just right and cooked all the way through. The sashimi was presented artistically with cucumber shavings & wasabi. Each piece was fresh & there was a very good variety. For beer, they had a selection of Japanese beers and I got a Sapporo. Service was responsive, efficient & friendly. I am both happy I had sushi from Yo Shi and saddened by their destitution during COVID. I imagine a lively dining experience in regular times signified by the poloroids they display on the inside past the COVID barrier. No dine in means the theatrical hibachi is not in effect. It seems in better times they were phenomenally popular. Let's start at the beginning. I was in the mood for something but I couldn't put my finger on what. I searched and considered eating at the resort I'm at but Yelp made that choice inconsiderable. I see on google maps usage nearby. Ok, call the number on Google. No answer but they're open, certainly. I made other thoughts a possibility considering they may have been a COVID casualty. When I was going to get Culver's I chose to see if The Yo was open. They were and I put in the dream order I wanted. I'm quite particular to my taste and texture when it comes to nigiri so when I got back to my room and lifted the container top to smell- yuck, fish- I was dubious, but, every piece was tongue tender and perfect. I don't know if the hefty tip helped or if the extra sides were complimentary but I filled up on the mushroom soup, miso soup, sushi, and some of the hibachi chicken and shrimp I ordered. The dressing for the salad is aweful but a minor distraction. Get this. Period. read more

Had to order my salad separate or soup separate but I like both so I got soup with the sashimi and ordered the house salad separate. Normally I get both with an entree at most other Japanese restaurants. I did not get the roll I normally get on top of my order because it is an amazing flavor that's to die for. Spicy scallop roll but looks like an ice cream cone. It's one full seaweed sheet. They turned me on to it 15+ years ago and now they look at me like I'm an alien. My first time here.... Pros: I had the $10 lunch box with sushi. It came out quickly and tasted very good. Soup, Salad, 4 pieces of sushi, 2 won tons and 4 pieces of California roll. Very good Japanese food option in the area. We ate there twice. They have a whole vegetarian sushi section from which I sampled an asparagus, avocado and cucumber roll and a tofu roll (both quite good). I also tried the veggie tempura (light and steamy with just the right amount of crisp), edamame (nicely delicate and salty in pods), mushroom soup (comforting and warming) and hibachi vegetables (done just right and including two dipping sauces). My wife's veggie and chicken fried rice meals had nicely chewy rice. The veggie one was full of more and different veggies than usual. Her duck appetizer was perfectly spiced. Her plum wine, on the other hand, was too syrupy compared to others she's had. Our waitress was quite nice and the room was very pleasant. Hopefully you don't go into a Japanese restaurant in a strip mall and expect what you'd expect at a really nice hibachi place. If you do come in with reasonable expectations, you will definitely enjoy Yo Shi. When you're looking for a break from the brats you've been grilling all summer, you can definitely come to this place for a nice ~$20 meal that includes soup, a small salad (with awesome ginger soy dressing), fried rice and your choice of protein that the hibachi chef will do up right in front of you in the true hibachi way. He wasn't the slickest hibachi chef I've ever seen (missed his hat with the egg shell a few times) but he kept us well entertained (and well fed). We left happy. read more

Despite the strip mall setting, Yoshi is great. Delicious, fresh, creative rolls. Favorites include the Crazy Donny and Franz roll. But my favorite menu item is the Tuna Sashimi Appetizer in spicy sauce. Other reasons for a thumbs up - they do carry-out and are open until 11pm on the weekends. Don't get me wrong the service and atmosphere is nice, but I was so disappointed when it came to my meal. My friends come here for sushi and they have almost always leave happy. So I was willing to go and try some of the other parts of their menu and it was sad. One of the the times I had their tempura platter and it was bland and tasteless. Don't really remember the price.. Next time I went, I tried the chicken fried rice and it was the worst excuse of a fried rice I've ever had. It was more than bland it was almost inedible. Rice was stale and the chicken was dry/rubbery.. It was $8-$9.00. Came with some lemons and soy sauce that hadn't helped a bit. The first time I ever ate sushi was at Yoshi and I was not dissapointed. Although I haven't ventured far from the sushi bar menu other favorites include the seaweed salad and the appetizers. The booths are nicely covered, for a little extra privacy, IF you are lucky enough to get one. The service is always great and they are very accomodating. It loses a star for the prices--a little to high for the quality. It may seem like you aren't spending a lot but the bill quickly adds up before you realize it. It also loses a star for atmosphere; the restaurant is oddly set up and the pictures that surround the walls of birthdays and anniversaries are a little hokey in my opinion. A WORD OF ADVISE.... All in all, the place is pretty good. I have been there 3 times now for Sushi, and will go again. The only thing I would mention that I think you should consider is this: They tend to PUSH on their "special" appetizers there. I told the server that I was not interested atleast 3 times in the appetizer. Having no luck with me, she continued pushing the "special" on my guests, who said "sure we'll try it". Only problem is that the server never mentioned how much the so called "special" was. Low and behold, when the bill came (my treat), the "special appetizer" was $18.00 !! I could then see why the server was so pushy. My word of advise to you would be to ASK how much the "Special" is before you say yes, unless of course money is of no concern to you. read more

One of the better (and only) options for sushi in the Lake Geneva area. It is located in a strip mall in Delavan, but don't be turned off by the location. The sushi there is very fresh tasting - I highly recommend the Franz roll. All other rolls we ever get are good too. They also have a hibachi table where the chef cooks right in front of you if you were interested in that, though I can't say I've ever noticed anyone sitting there. I can't say enough about how much I love Yoshi. I live in New York, but every time I come home to Wisconsin, I stop in at this delightful sushi place unassumingly tucked into a strip mall. The lunch specials are extremely well-priced and the sushi is always really, really fresh. Their dragon rolls are to die for, and their tempura is always perfectly done. The service is usually amazingly fast, and while the decor may be a bit kitschy/tacky, the vibe is always calm and intimate (especially in the booths or at the back hibatchi tables).
