Oh yes, I love fro-yo! The original tart here is really good and more on the sweet side for apprehensive tart eaters. I prefer mine a lil bit more sour but this was good with the tart strawberries. I also mixed in the vanilla yogurt which wasn't overly sweet. Boo for not having Fruity Pebbles cereal for a topping though! At least there was fresh fruit and mochi. Wow this yogurt is some of the best ever! This was the second Yogurt Shack I went to on my trip to California. I was taken here by someone needing to satisfy his yogurt fix. I have been to many yogurt places in Atlanta but have never had yogurt as good as this before. I usually hate self-serve yogurt places, but the yogurt was so good I didn't care. I had the red velvet cake yogurt at this location. It was soooooooo creamy. It was like soft serve consistency. The flavor was legit, tasted exactly like a red velvet cake...yum! They had so many toppings it was ridiculous, so many different types of chocolate and sour candies. All the fruit options were fresh. I was sad they didn't have the peanut butter flavor they had in the Concord one. Really wish they had a Yogurt Shack in Atlanta. Pretty sure I would be there...a lot! read more

I think that Yogurt Shack is fantastic so long as I call it "Soft-Serve Ice Cream Shack" in my head. It's far too creamy and dense for my taste, but I'm sure it's a great, healthy alternative to Cold Stone or other far-too creamy ice cream. Awesome. Living in Walnut Creek presents many fro-yo options within a 5 minute driving radius, and I have to crown this establishment as my favorite. The texture of the yogurt when I was there was perfect. It was far superior to coco-swirl in the intensity of the flavor and the texture. The flow of the self serve out of the machines was occasionally slow, but I appreciate the higher quality consistancy of the yogurt over the speed. The flavors when I was there were my personal favorites. To be able to choose between peanut butter, mint and cookies and cream was great. One of the best parts about this place is the inclusion of nutritional facts on the yogurt machine. Many people on calorie counting diets consume fat free yogurt, and having that information is valuable. I think that prominently displaying the caloric content adds transparency to an industry that might be described as a delicous dieting fad. read more

My only beef is that it's often overrun with kids that could be better supervised (no fault of the establishment I realize, but a fact nevertheless). The former location of Toot Sweet, this place is doing a good business. During the summer, it was packed with teens, families and business people. The interior is cleaner and well kept than Flippers. We walked into Flippers and could not believe what we saw as we promptly walked out. I've been to Yogurt Shack thrice so far and like their tart yogurt. Yogurt Shack is the go to place for a snack after school and so much healthier than McD's or Cold Stone. It's very, very clean, and since half of the clientele is children, that's a real plus in my book. Finally, there is a dairy free strawberry yogurt that I like, great for those of us who have lactose problems. I am a yogurt lover and found Yogurt Shack to be great! You get to serve your own yogurt, and you can even be green about it with their green friendly yogurt cups!. They always have a variety of yogurts and any topping you could imagine to go on them. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is very clean and kept up. I do think it is interesting that you have to ask them to get samples of everything when it is self-serve. But ok, not that big of a deal. I used to love this place.....that is, until I found Yogurtland in Pleasant Hill!!! Why? Simply price. Other than that, Yogurt Shack and Yogurtland are perfect substitutes. They both have a wide variety of flavors, and toppings which include candy, chocolate, and fresh fruit. Both places charge you by the ounce. Yogurt Shack is an expensive 38 cents an ounce. Yogurtland is 30 cents an ounce. You may not think that is much of a difference, but if one gas station offered gas for $3.80 a gallon, and another was $3.00 a gallon, which would you choose? read more

Its New and ITs crowded!!!! But, the yogurt is GOOOOOOD!!! There are several options, besides my favorite signature tart. There are tons of toppings, some of which you have to ask to have them bagged up, weighed and purchased. This place is in a pretty good spot in Lafayette, right in the middle. Until Whole Foods opens, there is parking. And, once you get your yogurt, there is plenty of seating outside. If you cannot find anything right out front, go around the corner, into the courtyard where the fountain is and you will find more. We took my niece and nephew there for yogurt. This was perfect for them. THey live right in the area and the DO IT YOURSELF yogurt and toppings is the only way to go for kids. It does make it a little messier, but they need less yogurt and smaller samples of several toppings. THEY LOVED IT! And Aunt Jen and MJ were earning points on the coolness chart! read more

When I get froyo I get original tart and then top it with fruit. That's about the healthiest you can make your froyo. The tart flavor was nice and wasn't too tart and not too sweet so it had a good balance. Topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries made for a tasty snack on a hot afternoon. I believe it's 49 cents an ounce so my yogurt came out at around $5 for the medium size cup. It's your average froyo place but the toppings are fresh and the yogurt is tasty. i read the previous 16 reviews...generally spot on. here's what was missed: they do not change flavors daily...unless I happen to have come on 2 identical days... they offer a "free" waffle cone option...obviously you pay for the weight of the cone...but for all those SOOO into "bio-degradable"...can't be any more green than that...I like the yummy cones...but gets soggy. You also have to ask for it at the counter...so it's awkward if it's busy. toppings could use more fresh fruit options, I think I only saw sliced strawberries. Wish there was mochi, bananas, kiwi, etc. yogurt taste and consistency is all good...no complaints. Overall, expect more toppings catering to little kids. read more

I was in your Lafayette store about 11:10 am today, July 14. A young man greeted me when I came in and a young woman was walking past the machines. I asked her what Golden Gate chocolate meant and she replied, "Oh, that's just our regular chocolate." I decided to get cake batter and the chocolate. Unfortunately, when I depressed the lever for cake batter, the machine spit and spurted all over me. I had just come from walking the reservoir so had sticky substance on my shoes, legs, shorts, tank, arms, and hands. The girl ignored me as I stood there in distress. The boy handed me a dry rag, said "Sorry," and told me the machines wouldn't be ready for 5 minutes. I had intended to run other errands in Lafayette but I couldn't because I was a sticky mess. I came home to Moraga to get cleaned up. The clothes, spotted all over, are both new. They are in the washing machine right now and I desperately hope they come clean. I had really looked forward to having froyo. Update: I called the manager and told her what had happened and she was beyond nice. Kind and considerate and clearly valued customer relations. This is my personal favorite place to get froyo. I love the flavors and all the fixin's plus this yogurt doesn't give me that weird after taste that some places do. I go here often and can't wait to go back. I usually go for the tart,vanilla flavors and a couple times they had marshmallow and cake batter which were also very tasty. They usually always have the tart and vanilla, but switch out the other flavors. I put nuts, raspberries, and of course caramel on top. So yummy! read more

If there's one thing I hate about self serve frozen yogurt places, it's when they're stingy with providing samples. I don't see the harm in allowing your PAYING customers to sample flavors on their own. Here at Yogurt Shack, you have to ask an employee to sample a flavor, which they will then dispense the sample for you. It's really not that big of a deal, but to each their own and besides, this is what Yelp is for. Being that this is the only frozen yogurt place around the area, and hearing good things, a friend and I decided to give it a try. I believe their price is either $0.38/0.39/ounce. I'm not sure if they rotate their flavors everyday but on the day that we were there, they had Golden Gate Chocolate, Vanilla, Mint, Cake Batter, another type of chocolate, Cookies & Cream, and Original Tart. (There could have been more that I failed to mention) As you can see, they have a pretty extensive selection of flavors but if you're more of a tarty froyo fanatic like I am, none of them will really jump out at you besides Original Tart. I sampled it and I LOVED the consistency. I hate when froyo is watery and melts the minute after you leave the register. It was ok, a little flavorless but nonetheless edible. My friend sampled the Cake Batter which she liked so I took her word for it and filled my cup with half Cake Batter and half Original Tart. The toppings were mostly dry toppings such as granola, nuts, crushed candy, cookies, and brownies, along with your typical toppings like sprinkles. They also had a couple fruit toppings such as strawberries, blueberries, and surprisingly even mochi. I usually never get candy toppings so I'm not sure what made me want to throw in a few pieces of a Reese's cup into my cup. My cup came out to be a little over $4.00 which was not bad at all. I was able to sit through a good conversation with my friend as we enjoyed our yogurt without looking down to a watery mess in the middle of it. Overall, this place is alright. One star for the price and two more for the thick consistency of their yogurt. I'd go here if I was desperately craving froyo but I wish they'd get less generic flavors and throw some sample cups out there for customers to sample flavors on their own. read more
