I love this place. I think it's run by a trained Japanese Chef. This is the only place I eat uncooked sushi. Everything is presented so well and looks too pretty to eat. But you have to eat it because it tastes so good! For downtown flavor out in Cypress this is the place to go!!! read more

Excellent service, sushi chef came to our table to thank us and ask is if there was any special he could do for us. Started with amazing Garlic Edamame, complimentary salad, complimentary Miso souo, then we had one roll served at a time (out choice to do it this way)Tiger eye roll, Alaska roll, Tuna Nanuto (For Keto people tho is was amazing). Pretend to be Japanese, but Chinese cuisine cooking method/taste. Tonkotsu Ramen tastes nothing like the real ones. You CANNOT just add milk to chicken broth to make it looks authentic. Hamachi Kama is not grilled and you cant just put seasoned soy sources making it tastes like stream fish in Chinese restaurants. Feel just a complete rip-off. I have now been to this restaurant five times and have decided that it is consistently the best sushi I have ever had. The fish is always fresh, the presentation is beautiful, the service is impeccable, there is a variety of sake and beer available. I can give only rave reviews about Yokohamaya. I often ask Chef Jeff to bring us whatever he feels like making that night, but some of the items we have tried from the menu are the garlic edamame, tempura shrimp and veggies, the rainbow roll, and as of last night we tried the special last night had king crab and was delicious. First off, not sure what it was but the place smelled like a hair salon. I didn't know if our server was supposed to be off and got called in to work but he was dressed in a tshirt and jeans. The menu was decent, several options. I chose the tonkatsu entree and he chose the teriyaki chicken. We also ordered two sushi rolls...the Skydiver Roll and the Alaska Roll. My tonkatsu was okay. The cutlet was thin, so it was kind of dry. I had a mound of rice and a random broccoli floret and two grape tomato halves. His chicken was okay at best and our two rolls came when we were almost done with our entrees. There was a "previously frozen" taste to the fish, the shrimp tempura tasted like it had been sitting for hours, and it wasn't even rolled tight enough so it just fell apart when we picked up a piece. We ordered a huge lunch with a little bit of everything. The teriyaki chicken was dry over cooked chicken breast. Definitely not their specialty. I would say don't bother with it. The fried rice that came with it was soy stained white rice. Pretty bland and dry rice honestly. The vegetables were barely there. Maybe two tablespoons of broccoli and a couple shavings of carrot. The vegetables were the best part of that order. The crab puffs were really good. Absolutely recommend those. The stuffed jalapeños were also great. Maybe the best we have had. All the sushimi was really good. The baked Avacado was decent but over priced for what you get. Half an avacado for around ten dollars. The miso soup may have been the most disappointing thing we got. It's basically just chicken broth with green onions. We all love miso soup so that was a big let down. The shaggy dog was good but not great. It needed more sauce. Maybe that is why it seemed dry. The chicken roll was good. Basic, as expected and worth the cost. The whole order was 180.00 and it's debatable weather Panda Express would have been better. (Other than the crab puffs and stuffed jalapeños) It was a big order and it seemed like they didn't start cooking until we got there to pick it up, since we were paying cash I guess they wanted to be sure we were coming. I would go back but I would never order teriyaki again, or miso soup. The last time we ordered it was much better. Maybe dinner is better than lunch. ??? read more
