Hands down, one of my 5 favorite breakfast spots in the city. What to expect: a modern diner-esque spot that is busy, full of families and couples, large parties and singles. Yolk is on NoWait app, so definitely add your party there in route to the restaurant to shave off at least 20-30 minutes off your in-person wait time on those busy weekends. We did this - added our name to the line via the app, we were walking there and about 2miles out. The wait was 45-60 minutes and upon our arrival, we checked in and waited only 10 remaining minutes to be seated. Love the app!! My favorites: 1) California omelette and the Hey Ricky omelette - I happen to love blended avocado in omelettes now because I first had it here. 2) Beet/orange juice soooooo good! Our group of 10 were not disappointed by the food or service at Yolk! The 2 kids were sufficiently entertained by the kids menu activity and everyone loved their food. Specialty coffees are also delicious - Butterscotch latte especially. Service was fast and accurate and for a Sunday at 9:45 am we got in right away. By the time we left at 10:30 it was packed. read more

We swung in here looking for a quick brunch. We're so lucky we did! The service was awesome, and. Our waitress was incredibly helpful in guiding us through the choices, but the food was the best part! The whole family raved about everything - from the pancakes, to the Eggs Benedict, to the corn beef and hash, to the Avocado toast! If we were Chicago natives we'd definitely be here all the time. read more

From a breakfast aficionado, this is a great breakfast spot. I wish I lived closer, I would be here every day. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and seated. I come to this location often with friends, family, and my partner. The food is thoroughly delightful, with fun spins on classic breakfast dishes and creative coffee flavors. My all time favorites are the Blueberry Muffin Iced Latte, Breakfast Mac and Cheese, and Cinnamon Roll French Toast. My only complaint is that they change their coffee flavors quite often, so when I finally find a flavor I love, I come back and it's gone! Came after a 5k on Fathers Day, so it was pretty busy. Easy to check in. They use the texting system and that seemed to work out. Menu is a standard upscale breakfast diner menu. They were busy and it was controlled chaos looking at the expo line. All plates came out clean with full presentation, so it was pretty obvious the kitchen team was a well-oiled machine. Our server Gina was adorable. She told us she was new, and we could tell. She was a little forgetful, but she came through in the end. I ordered the Greek Yogurt plate and that was supposed to come with a muffin, but never did. I was just going to bring it home, so I didn't remind her about it. No harm, no foul. All in all, the food was solid and service was pleasant enough. Not sure I would visit this particular location (Michegan Ave right across from the park) again, but I'm glad we stopped by. The Yolk brand is definitely on point and would recommend to anyone. read more

Nice spot for a little breakfast date or a meet up with friends. I like that we were in our own little corner. The food was soooo good. I dined here during a phase of COVID reopening while visiting. Only a stones throw from my hotel with high ratings this was an easy choice for breakfast. I ordered an omelet with potatoes and pancakes (I've never been one to say no to carbs). The food came out fresh and hot but a little bland for my liking. For the most part, nothing a little condiments, salt, and pepper couldn't fix. The pancakes were dry but plenty of butter and syrup saved the experience for me. Overall, the best things about Yolk were the cooking technique, the service, and the portion sizes. Not too bad for a chain restaurant. read more

Everything was amazing! I was surprised it came with a pickle, because it got some of the fries soggy but it still tasted fine. The French toast is amazing with granola bits. It adds some texture and sweetness. They also slathered some yogurt on top so it's more interesting than your usual French toast. The burger was very thick. I didn't notice the bacon under the patty until after I bit into it. My bf gave me a slice of his bacon from the French toast at first. The tomato slices were pretty big though. The egg was okay, some of the white was still uncooked so it oozed everywhere. The serving size was pretty big too, so I'm not mad about that. read more

The chicken and waffles were really good. The caramel latte was delicious. Unfortunately, that was my boyfriend's meal. I got the loaded potato cakes which sounded better than they were. They were just flat and fried; I thought they'd be fluffier with a better texture. The apple juice comes in the littlest cup known to man. Uh, very "mid" stop on our trip. The potatoes are undercooked, a few pieces felt almost raw. The smoked salmon on the eggs benedict is very underwhelming as it's just chopped pieces of salmon. The lattes are mostly milk and sugar and lack quality espresso flavor. The aesthetic and staff were phenomenal, but not sure what wins this place its hype. read more

Went early in the morning before the Aquarium and the food and service was excellent! They also have coffee drink specials that were so so good!! Had an amazing time catching up with my dad at brunch. I no longer live in Chicago and have not been here for ages. The food was great, service was great. I can tell they are keeping up their COVID level of cleanliness which is good. It was kind of a quiet morning/afternoon and our food came right out so shout out to the kitchen. My only remark is that the red velvet French toast is really red velvet cake which thinking back I do think the menu tried to warn me and I didn't take heed.lol. It was yummy nonetheless! read more

Last time I was at a Yolk location was when I was still livin' it up in Streeterville and Yolk was literally a stones throw away. This location in South Loop actually caught me by surprise in terms of food quality and service. Let's do this! PROS -Plenty of breakfast, brunch, & lunch options. Really enjoyed the chilaquiles I had ordered and was quite surprised with how good the croque madame was! -Great service -Use the No Wait app to get on the waitlist and see how long it will take to grab a table -Regular black coffee is quite nice and unlimited refills. Our server even offered us a cup togo CONS -Busy on weekends. Use No Wait to limit how much waiting you'll do for a table -I called in to ask about parking and they indicated they validate up to two hours in the structure next door, but structure was full. Street parking will run you $4/hr If you're looking for a Wildberry alternative that isn't quite as slammed, look no further! Not much else I got on this one. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

TL:DR - Great spot if you like to have decadent heavy breakfasts. Not so much if you watch your caloric intake. Outside of that, the kale scrambler was great. Place was surprisingly busy for middle of the week. Good quality place overall. Yolk is a VERY popular chain. And I get why, but I honestly don't think it's that special. I think that some qualifiers need to be mentioned first. I tend to watch what I eat, so a lot of items on the menu sounds amazing but also high caloried, so I tended to not eat those. The menu itself is also HUGE, like cheesecake factory big. Also, I think breakfast spots in general are super over rated. I don't think anyone can do breakfast better than any other place, you can only be good or bad. No one is gonna be AMAZING. You can only improve on eggs and potatoes so much. That being said, I got the kale scramble with a side of pancakes. The kale scramble was actually quite good for what it is. Usually veggie scrambles have nasty wet veggies, little flavor, and for some reason are really soggy. But this wasn't soggy and had great flavors. The goat cheese added a hint of sweetness and funk. The pancakes here were also solid. I haven't had pancakes in a while, and these hit the spot. Per usual, these things were huge and I couldn't finish the entire stack. But we came on a weekday for breakfast a couple weeks before the corona-hysteria really it, and it was surprisingly packed given the circumstances and that it was middle of the week. But we were sat quickly and the server was super nice. read more

Good service, cute ambiance, so-so food. I guess it's better to stick to the breakfast options. Ordered chicken sandwich with bacon. Both chicken and bacon had been pre-cooked--understandable and passable for bacon, not so much for the chicken breast. You know the pre-cooked Trader Joe's chicken breast with the lemon? Yeah, less fresh than that. Hard to even bite into. Fries were OK. I hate crushed ice in my soda; it waters it down and gets stuck in the straw. read more

I visited the Chicago Yolk location and was overall happy with my visit. Parking is street or detached garage only (about a 4 min walk). There was no wait for a table for 3 and our sever greeted us promptly. I ordered the Country Skillet (comes with a side of pancakes), Chicken & Waffles, and a side of eggs. The food was good, not raving, but tasty and hot. The servings are generous and would be appropriate to share, and the coffee was pleasantly sweet. The environment was causal and corky, would recommend for a casual breakfast. read more

I came here on a Friday around 11am with my parents and waited probably 20-25mins which wasn't too bad. I love coming to Yolk because they're the only place that has frittata for brunch and I always order it here. The Santa Fe frittata precovid vs now did not disappoint at all. I can't wait to be back for it in the future when I'm craving it again. My parents ordered the eggs benedict and breakfast burrito. I didn't try them but they looked super good. Yolk has multiple locations around the Chicagoland area and it's one of the places I would recommend to friends if they're visiting this city. The service was good and it's like you can always count on them for a nice brunch experience either with friends or family. read more

Just go to Chick-fil-A..you'll get better food and service. We waited about 20 FULlL minutes for our server to come over to our order. My friend asked another server a question and she whispered something under her breath as she was walking away. I'm fine with a pricey breakfast but no when it comes to waiters that take 20 minutes to acknowledge you. We were getting ready to leave as a waitress started coming over. I don't know what to chalk up this treatment to but I don't want to try again and figure it out.. read more

Yolk is doing a special Irish Creme French toast for St Patricks's Day and the presentation is giving "shit sandwich". Like literal shit sandwich tho. French toast with a lukewarm, brownish, chocolate Jello pudding textured goo slapped between it. It would almost be better if it was green....or would it?!! Yikes. At least then I could say it was festive. The presentation left a lot to be desired, but it's solid French Toast. . Sauce didn't add anything or take anything away. Serve it on the side for a more appealing aesthetic and also to spare the unsuspecting patron the disappointment it brings. Specials should be....well, special. This isn't. Womp Womp. I've been coming here for over 10 years, and although it started out absolutely one of my favorite breakfast spots, the quality of the food and the portions have decreased drastically while still increasing the price. Very very disappointed. The cinnamon roll French toast was my favorite on the menu, and what started out as full sized, have now shrunk to be quarter sized rolls that is just bread with syrup on top. The food is bland and has no more flavor. Also, the "funfetti pancake of the month" is actually just a regular nasty pancake with sprinkles on top. Don't waste your money. The coffee is always good and so is the service, otherwise, I'm sad to say I will no longer be a loyal customer. It is time to say goodbye to yolk. read more

My friends and I were staying at Best Western for our trip, which was literally right around the corner. So it was a no-brainer to come here to enjoy breakfast. We got an early start at 8am. When we arrived, there was a small wait. We were looking at the menu and we got seated soon after. After our meal, there was a whole crowd of people by the door, so definitely come earlier. When I was looking at the menu, my eyes went towards the sweet pancakes. I really wanted the red velvet, but I also wanted to try eggs, since the store is called yolk after all. So with the server's help, I got an order of eggs, which comes with a side of potatoes. And opted to upgrade to a special small serving of the red velvet pancake. I got the best of both worlds. After eating, I'm glad that I got what I got. Because the red velvet was quite sweet and I definitely wouldn't have wanted to eat a whole serving of only red velvet. The egg & potatoes balanced everything out. In terms of the potatoes, I was excited to eat potatoes at first, but they were a bit of the soggy side... I mean not too much, but definitely not crunchy and good as I imagined it. But I was satisfied nonetheless. I was able to start out the day with a balanced meal. read more

Thick, creamy, smooth and rich. The cinnamon came through warm but not too strong, plus a little extra on top that hit your nose before the first sip. Sweet and it almost had this slight earthy note too... hard to explain but good. It even had that little design on top, like the ones they do on cappuccinos. Didn't expect that but it was cool. I finished it slow. Didn't wanna rush it. Just sat there taking small sips and enjoying it while it was still hot.

I always look for something nearby, and Oliver's popped up. The front of Oliver's is unassuming, but when you walk in, you are greeted by a lovely bar area and small two seater tables in the window. The dining area is down a corridor from the bar area. The decor is quite cute and elegant, with the overall vibe being quire chill. As this was our first time at the restaurant, Aidan explained the menu to us. We started out with the caviar service (Osetra noir caviar, crème fraîche, oyster chicharrón). Ok I love caviar but this is the first time I have had it with chicharróns, and that they were made with oysters. Traditionally, chicharróns are made from pork, but these blew me away to the point that I asked for an additional serving. Highly recommend this starter. We also got the Toast Royale (beef fat griddled sourdough and caramelized shallot butter). This was also yummy on its own and with the caviar. Be warned though, this is a huge serving of bread. I needed up taking half of it home. In addition to these two starters we got the Truffle Gnocchi (comté, aged parmesan, and burgundy truffle). The truffle was extra at $29, but was worth it for me. We also got the charred octopus with preserved peppers, fennel and a Szechuan chili oil. The octopus clocked in at $42, but again so worth it for me. It was prepared perfectly, the octopus was tender and melted in my mouth. For dinner, The Doctor and The Queen got the Black Cod with vegetables and they split the cucumber salad. I got the cheeseburger. They both liked their dishes as there was nothing left on their plates. I am not a fish person myself, but they both stated that the fish was well prepared. For me, the cheeseburger was very good and so were those fries. While there are other dinner items on the menu, that burger was giving life and I would definitely get that again. Although I will say I saw a table order the half chicken and that looked really good. I would consider that as a possible entrée as well. For dessert I got the coconut key lime pie to split with The Doctor and The Queen got the malted milk & cookies. I am a sucker for coconut and key lime, but together it was kismet. And we also got an order of the warm chocolate chip cookies on the house. Those were very good and I am saying so as I am not a big fan of cookies per se. Haley and Aidan were the folks that took care of us and they were so nice. They were very attentive and genuinely seemed happy to be working there. Oliver's was a great dining experience for us, but I will preface this review with some of the dishes are on the pricey side, but I can live with that because I simply want what I want. For the quality of the dishes, I felt it was worth it.

We decided to try the Smoked Ribs, Pike fish and chips, New England Lobster Roll and the Warm Parker House rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted the appetizers to come first - since we were sharing we said to bring it out whenever it's ready i.e. no specific order. The ribs and fish and chips entrees were the first to be served. We had also asked for some ice for the table. We waited quite a while before we inquired about the bread and the Lobster roll. Our waitress at this point had not come to check on us - it's about 15-20 minutes since our food arrived. She also forgot about our ice request (We never did get it!). The fish and chips were delicious - crispy on the outside and tender flaky fish on the inside. It was also not greasy and tasted delicious. The chips (fries) were also well done; howeveer, it was a bit on the salty side. None the less it was delicious. Took a while to get some ketchup and "tabasco" (they do not have tabasco but did have crystal hot sauce). The smoked ribs was excellent. Nice smoky flavor and meat was tender. Portions were very generous. As to our missing food order, she was apologetic and informed us that the Lobster roll was made in another kitchen and she had to go and check on it. Not sure what happened there but the rolls turned up really fast. The parkerhouse rolls, on the other hand, did not show up. We inquired again and she was surprised and said "You still want the bread?" and went ahead and placed the order. We surmised that she probably forgot about the order in the first place! The lobster roll was delicious. It came with chips not fries. The chips were also salty. The Parkerhouse rolls finally turned up with the black truffle honey & grass fed butter (5/5). The butter was sooo good - well worth the wait. We were rather stuffed by this time but managed to eat 2 of the 4 rolls! Took the other 2 home. The restaurant manager came over to our table and was very apologetic and informed us that she took care of our table as she felt that the service we received today did not reflect their usual level of service (My son also commented that he's never had poor service here). I appreciated this gesture and feel that restaurants should own up when they fail to provide the service expected at a reputable restaurant. For this reason, I did not ding them any stars. The food was really good and it was unfortunate we had subpar service when we visited. The restaurant was cozy - they have a few outside tables but we sat inside. There are booths as well as tables. The tables are a little closer and the seats are very comfortable. Would definitely come back and try other items on the menu next time we are in Chicago!

Warning: Egg puns may be present. Once upon a time, in a not too-far-off distant land, a breakfast place was located down Michigan Avenue. Heck, with it being a Wednesday morning (1030ish to be exact), Yolks seemed like a lovely little place to visit and not have to worry about a long wait. Bright blue and yellow walls were present, and even some abstract décor littered each table. Clearly, I thought, this place has to be the shiznit of breakfast places especially since the moment my beloved and I walked into this place, it made me feel like I was in a carton of eggs. Boy, was I sadly mistaken. After the hostess seated us, our waiter appeared from the mass of waiters and waitresses loitering near the front of the store. Our order (my companion ordered some banana-crepe thingy with a side of diced red potatoes and yours truly ordered the vegetarian wrap) was placed and the waiter went away, never to be seen until the food arrived later on. The food landed on the table, looking to be of quite large proportions--which in my book (or rather stomach) is wonderful. It was not until breakfast started that all the eggs started to run. My veggie wrap (which consisted of goat cheese and portabella mushrooms with miscellaneous peppers) was, sadly, a disappointment. The spinach wrap itself was mildly stale and cracked in my hands. Goat cheese seemed to overpower the whole wrap and while examine my little green wrap, I saw only traces of my beloved mushroom. My lovely companion's crepes were most likely injected with mounds of high fructose corn syrup as well as thrown into a microwave before coming to her seat. Besides having the crepes be too thick and too sweet the presentation of having gobs of whip cream atop of these "crepes" were slightly stomach turning. Remember that side of red-diced potatoes I mentioned earlier? Yeah, I barely remember them. That's the impact they left. As our trip drew to a close, and when our waiter finally came to check on us, it was only to drop off the bill. Sorry to say, but Yolk was not what it seems cracked up to be. Having just left a review for a breakfast restaurant that I love, I thought that I would take a moment to write a review for one that was a bit of a disappointment. I only knew about this place from walking by it on Michigan Avenue. To be fair I hadn't heard anything about it at all. I just assumed that it must be good based on the size of the crowd I often see waiting outside. My first problem, as is the first problem with all disappointing restaurants, - the service was awful. Normally I give hostesses and waitresses the benefit of the doubt because I was there once and I am fully aware that sometimes it is simply impossible to serve all your tables well, especially when the place is packed and you are short on staff. The problem here was we went on Tuesday, late in the morning, and we were the ONLY customers there. The waitress came out, asked if we knew what we wanted, we said no, and then we were given a generous menu browsing time of about 20 minutes. The time between ordering and receiving food was equally extreme. My second problem was that the food was OK, it wasn't terrible, but when one goes to a breakfast restaurant and pays ridiculous prices for some fairly simple to make breakfast foods, one expects to be given a fairly good meal. This food was more on par with Denny's on the late late shift. Unfortunately, this time I simply wasn't drunk enough to enjoy it. You never know, I might have just hit this place at the wrong time, so check it out for yourself. But It wouldn't be my first recommendation. read more

I just love brunch! But it can be miserable if you don't have the right servers. Ladies get your mimosas ready because Yolk serves up a hefty portion of edibles, (my plate was filled, love it) with a side of delight. Let me explain the definition of delight in an acronym, BYOB. Thank you Yolk. I am quite the picky eater and I asked for a side of simple syrup, a few orange slice and a glass of oj, as I brought a bottle of Prosec, mimosas anyone? The servers were so pleasant and gave these right away before the meal so we could prepare. After dropping of these trinkets, our waiter stayed close to our table to make sure our homemade mimosas were to our liking. I apologized repeatedly to our server for having him bring the slices and syrup, as I requested them twice. He was more than accommodating bringing real fresh oranges AND recommended grapefruit slices as an fun alternative. We brought about 3 and a half bottles for our table of 4. Needless to say I had between 5 and 19 glasses of bubbly OJ that morning/afternoon. I cant recall, don't judge! What I am proud of though, is the fact that I made the decision to go to this brunch spot and now have been dubbed the unofficial brunch queen. We're going to visit a few spots to find the best mimosas in Chicago. And what's a foodie journey without Yelp. I'm here to review my best life. I ate at Yolk a few weeks ago and had an overall good experience. The food was great, and after all, that's what I went there for! The beginning of our adventure started off a little rocky though.. We got there sometime around 10:30 on a Sunday. We were expecting a wait, so we weren't startled when they told us it would be 45-60 minutes. The thing that did annoy us, however, was the annoying host that was working. To put it simply, he was rude and did not know how to take charge and direct the crowd of people to stand in the right place. I was okay with waiting, but the guy was REALLY getting on all of our nerves. We were eventually seated and HUNGRY! I got the corned beef hash with a poached egg and the potatoes and it was deliciousss. Everything on the menu looked so good. I need to go back soon and keep on trying different things.
