Staff were quick to get drinks and food in and asked about food allergies as well as what time my train was to ensure everything came out in time. I had a lycheetini and probably could have had a few more. The three hand rolls I ordered were each roughly two bite tacos each served in a stand. I enjoyed each one for its flavor and how well prepared they were: Tuna Toro, Mushroom and Blue crab. The blue crab being by far my favorite of the trio. This was surprising good sushi for a quick food hall stop within a train station! That's not to say that are not some delicious options in food courts, but typically my expectations start pretty low. For sushi, the baseline is starts at basic. So I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh fish and innovative takes on flavors and menu offerings at Yoni. I ordered three temaki hand rolls: 1 Salmon, Asian pear, crispy shallots and 2 Blue Crab, crispy shishito, sesame They were both delicious and flavorful, however the Blue Crab stole the show. The richness of the blue crab paired with the crispy shishito was fantastic and so satisfying. Additionally, the rolls came out quickly and the servers that took the orders were friendly and attentive. There's also a hook to hang bags; they're so considerate with their concept! The other side of the bar is where the chefs prepare the food prior to opening. It is nice to know that everything is fresh! I started with the sashimi over a bed of greens that was beautifully arranged!! This definitely fed my eyes! I loved taking a pause with ginger slice in between to cleanse the palette and enjoy the next one. The hot meals only takes 10 minutes to prepare. The rice is very hot, pressed down to the bottom while the toppings are also neatly arranged. The Crispy Spicy Shrimp is indeed crispy and coated in a spicy sauce. I eat spice on the regular so I was not phased by the spice level of the shrimp. It was a great opportunity to mix it in wasabi! Best train station sushi ever. Got the pre-packaged double salmon avocado roll which had generous slices of fresh and soft fish on top of rice which was somehow not hard at all. The spicy crispy shrimp bowl was packed with flavors and the shrimp was addictive - lightly battered and still crispy. Slightly pricey but not bad for this quality of food. This spot is located inside the Moynihan food hall. I can't speak to the bar seating and dining since i grabbed to-go food from their fridge. I forgot to take a photo but I'll describe everything since it's fresh in my mind. I got the Kani salad and the double salmon roll - both were delicious! Price was high though - it was almost $25 total. The Kani salad was unique and had lots of sesame and black sesame on top. The double salmon roll was fresh but I thought it was slathered in too much mayo. It would be better with less mayo so you can taste the variety of flavors. I saw they had scallions in the roll, but I couldn't taste the scallions since the mayo was overpowering. They were also stingy with the napkins - they only provided one single napkin. read more

Had omakase inside a train station, which is something I've never thought I'd ever do. Despite the idea of it, which isn't really that appealing in NYC because of the culture in the US compared to Asia (homeless/mentally ill people walking up to you from behind mainly and lack of respect), I actually enjoyed this experience and chef Andrew made it a better experience. He was very interactive with his guests as he made and served all of the pieces while also explaining each one. The experience lasted a little over an hour, so not ideal if you're trying to catch a train, but they do have a grab n go section as well. The omakase experience itself is $95 and it's a 13 course. My highlights were the king salmon, uni, toro, seaweed tartlet, and the pacific blue crab hand roll. We also ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice ($14) and the Crab Crispy Rice ($22) as we saw other people ordering these. Seems like they're the top seller and I can see why. read more

My sister and I came here for an early dinner. The service was great, when the waiter came she asked us if we were in a rush, which we were not. The table tops were clean and it was cool to be able to see the chefs at work. We ordered lychee saketinis to drink and they were fresh and fruity. Love this place. I've tried it a few times and never had a bad experience. Sat in a few times and had fresh handrails which was amazing my fave is the tempura shrimp and blue crab. Five stars! Inside the Monyihan train station food... just about everything in the train station is overly expensive... However if Im gonna over pay for something its sushi!! The reviews were good. The employees were nice.... and my feet were aching soo.. I got a Philly roll and a spicy tuna roll... before my train was to arrive... Both rolls were delicious. It satisfied my hunger pains.. First let me start of by saying this place is not cheap! It is worth every penny though because I purchased a pre packaged sushi roll and it was extremely fresh since the sushi is made there. This place is in Moynihan Food Hall so it was so packed and busy during lunch time after wandering around for a seat one finally cleared up - if your inside Penn Station and want sushi YONO is the way to go. I didn't realize you could eat at their sushi bar because the place is like a corner restaurant inside Penn station so I couldn't see the other side. When I saw it it looked pretty good because they had a lot of sushi chefs preparing sushi - Of course you cannot eat the pre packaged sushi on their spot but rather on the space where all the eateries share kind of like at a mall area. Pros: it's reasonably affordable, it's super convenient, and the portions are pretty big, so you will feel full. Also it's in the train station, so it's very convenient. Cons: I was honestly duped into thinking this was an omakase counter, when in reality it's just a counter for people to eat at. We ordered two Combo Chirashi Sushi Rice Bowls, which came out at a reasonable time. The fish tasted fresh for a takeaway spot, the spicy aioli sauce complemented the brown rice/ginger/tamago, but the only red flag I caught was the browning avocado slices. I'm sure it's hard to keep avocado fresh, but maybe a workaround would've been slicing it on the spot when someone orders a sushi rice bowl. Moynihan Train Hall is already nice and with Yono it makes for a pit stop worth stopping for some sushi! read more

I always make it a point to pass by Yono whenever I am in New York, and my latest visit to their Moynihan location was driven by a serious craving for their chicken curry. As always, the food itself was absolutely delicious and hit the spot. Unfortunately, the customer service consistently falls short. The staff are just not friendly. During this visit, both the Japanese gentleman at the cashier and the Japanese lady working there were completely unsmiling and unwelcoming. While Japanese culture is known for politeness, that was unfortunately not the experience here. When we asked about dining in, we were dismissed quite coldly. If a table isn't available or cannot be used, there is a much nicer, more polite way to communicate that to paying customers. I love the flavors here, but a little warmth and basic courtesy from the staff would go a long way. read more

The dine-in experience was worth it, if you have time. Employees were efficient and service was great. For me, I know I wanted the tuna chirashi bowl. Since it's Moynihan Food Hall, I know it was going to be pricey for not a lot of sashimi ($18 + tax), a few dollar more than the average. Lots of seaweed and edamame, few pieces of avocado and tamago. Considering I ordered a non-prepackaged, it didn't take too long. Food was good. I have to go back and try something else. read more

I grabbed a couple of sushi rolls from YONO when I was waiting for a train at Moynihan. The sushi was fresh and tasty (better than lots of sushi I've had at restaurants). Located in Moynihan Food Hall, it was a convenient spot to grab a bite after arriving in New York and checking into my hotel, which was right across the street. They have a few items pre-made that you can grab if you're in a hurry. You can order some food at the register or sit at their sushi bar. There's a lot of seating in the center of the food hall, but it can get pretty crowded at times. As for the food, don't expect fast food prices. It's a little pricey but the quality of the food was pretty good. The miso glazed salmon was a little on the small side, but was delicious. It was buttery soft, with a slightly sweet flavor. TLDR: What you'd expect from sushi in a major transit area. Pricy and not quite up to par for what I'd expect with a concept by BondST. I heard there was a new sushi place in Moynihan. I went to go see what was up - tried a prepped roll mid-meal. They seem to be building out a standing omakase bar to the side. Cool concept, I've only seen this in Asia but let's see. Spicy Tuna roll was $11.75, roll size was quite small - decent rice:fish ratio but still; very small. The rice was al dente with a nice chew to it. The tuna mince was of better quality, you can taste that it wasn't too fatty or slurry but flavor-wise; this fell kind of flat for me. There was this drizzle of spicy mayo across the top, I felt this was unnecessary, I think maybe if it were mixed into the mixture it would probably taste better although be less picturesque. Not really that umami spicy tuna texture, just kind of this mildly higher quality tuna mince. The raw ingredient is good but flavoring needs some work. Like an unseasoned grass-fed beef. It was very just passable, even for lower-tier sushi. I came for a snack, I'd have needed two rolls at a minimum for a full meal. I'd be close to $30 with taxes and a beverage. I can go a couple blocks from here and get a full on sushi meal in a sit down restaurant for less and it would be tastier. A full-on salad meal (literally across the way) would cost less, be more filling and arguably better for your tastebuds. The flavors missed for me, to the point where it's hard to see the affiliation with BondST at all. Granted, these are early days but just the relation of flavor to price is not there. Omakase in a train station?! I was surprised too, but I had an amazing experience here. You completely forget that you're in a train station because you're so focused on the fresh sushi For $95 you can enjoy a 15-course Omakase tasting menu. Each course was beautifully plated and they can recommend the best sake pairing to elevate your tasting. I had the BEST service here, the staff were quick, friendly and I loved how they explained each dish even giving their own suggestions and recommendations if we wanted extra. Although the Omakase is a must try, they also offer an a la carte menu and sushi boxes to pick up when you're short on time.
