I'm no expert when it comes to cars, I just found this place randomly from a mailer coupon. To my surprise it was a very good experience. Usually mechanics won't really talk to you if you're a woman bringing your car in and asking lots of questions, but they were really helpful! They were willing to explain each part of the process, show me the parts they were putting in and gave me a good price on the whole deal. Yes, I comparison shopped asking around at 5 different locations in Simi and only one was willing to price match, the others were all much more expensive. Gary at the front desk, was very polite and made sure to communicate everything going on and ask how I wanted to proceed. His estimate matched the final price (this made me happy!) We needed someone who could diagnose why the van we were buying didn't pass smog. We do not live in Simi, but needed to have the diagnosis done there since that is where the seller lived. We picked this business from several businesses who had business cards at the smog station. We showed up without an appointment, late afternoon, and they found and fixed the problem on the spot. The price they charged us for such great service was very reasonable. They told us to call them any time we had questions about our van and they'd be happy to help diagnose any issues over the phone and point us in a direction to get help close to our home. DO NOT GO TO THIS MECHANIC!!! The owner is named Gary and he will rip you off. He will tell you the price knowing it will be more expensive...call you a few hours later and tell you the higher price now that you've already commited to the lower price.. I ended up spending $2 grand to fix a car only worth $1400.00. After I was already into it for $1200.00 I decided I didn't have any choice. Two weeks later I started to talk to different mechanics and friends that are guy geeks about the work he did for me and all three said he played me for a sucker. read more

I had a simple cooling system leak in my heater core that I wanted bypassed. I've had this done on other vehicles and anybody on the planet would have done it for around a hundred dollars. I went here because they were close and convenient but I HIGHLY recommend you avoid them. They are nothing but a scam to steal you money. These guys charged me $49 for a diagnostic (even though I TOLD them what was wrong and what I wanted done and then they didn't even include it into the price of repair as EVERY OTHER SHOP DOES) Then they charged be $49 for the part (a simple coupling, actual cost $1.49) AND another $49 for labor (the only honest charge on the bill) Then they tacked on $67 for two gallons of coolant (actual cost $25 at Pep Boys) For a total or $214. More than twice the expected charge. I need thousands of dollars worth of work on this vehicle and because they screwed me on a simple coolant leak they will NEVER see my business again! Ripping off your customers is NOT a very forward thinking business model to have there guys. read more

I was in need of a mechanic and cautious do to my lack of knowledge with cars. After asking a trusted friend I went to see Gary. My first visit was to bring my daughters car for starting issues. He initially felt it could be the starter and quoted around $500. It made sense do to the age and mileage of her car. An honest, affordable mechanic is hard to find, but Gary has proven to be one every time we've taken our cars to him.

last night as my car decided to give me problems, no brake lights, cruise control stopped working and it wanted to stall constantly, and the dreaded engine light came on, I called Gary. He told me to bring it in this morning ( on a Saturday mind you) and he would look at it. So I did. Knowing how busy he usually is, and he was, I was prepared to leave it till monday. As I pulled up, he immediately began with his crew to look at it, within minutes he knew what was wrong and ordered the parts, in the span of 10 minutes he called the part store twice to ask when the parts would be delivered, finally they were, and with less than 5 minutes, new wires and new light bulbs, and a few minor things he saw and just fixed, and topped off all my fluids, and I was out the door. My car running like a newborn. I can not say enough nice things about this man and his work ethics, except as long as I drive a vehicle, Im a loyal customer of Yosemite Auto. Gary is honest, hard working, friendly and doesn't take you for a financial ride, he is beyond reasonable. I would gladly and highly recommend YOSEMITE AUTO to all my friends. I went to this guy for years and then one day about 5 years back he quoted me a price for brakes and when I went to pick up my car the price was more than double and money was very tight at the time as I had expressed to him and he threatened to impound my car immediately when I did not have double the amount he quoted me. I was referred to this place by a family member when I needed to get my drums replaced on my back brakes. It ended up costing almost 400 dollars and my brakes have been absolutely terrible since then. If I have to slam on my brakes or even just hit them quickly they will skip and make a loud sound before actually grabbing and slowing down. It's sort of scary. That was the first and last time I'll go here. I'm not sure about any of their other services but I wouldn't recommend going in for brakes! read more

I noticed a leak in my car so I immediately took it to Yosemite Auto Center. I dealt with Gary. He was a pleasant person to deal with, he said he could fix my car immediately. He worked on my car for an hour and a half and charged me $180.00. Fast Service but kind of pricy. The very next day the leak came back, now the leak is worst than the day before. I took it back to him and he advised me to take it to the original mechanic who installed my radiator because that installation had faulty components. So I asked for a refund because the leak was never fixed and he refused. I WILL NEVER TAKE ANY OF MY VEHICLES BACK TO BE SERVICED. There are many good mechanics in the area. Just be cautious if you use Yosemite Auto Center. Their pricing is also very expensive. read more

When I have had car problems due to it's age and mileage, he has been honest, informative and very reasonable. Here's my update. The next day after writing this review and filing a complaint with the BBB. I received a call from Gary. I guess a last effort to save a customer. Well, I thank him for that and it was very admirable of him to offer his services again. The extra star is for his attempt to rectify things, I'll give him that. However, I had already scheduled another mechanic to take a look at them. The new mechanic inspected the brakes and discovered that cutting the rotors may solve the problem. So I took it to Jim's Tires and had them cut (15 per rotor, little on the expensive side). Then he reinstalled the rotors, sanded, and regreased the pads. After driving with them for a few days, I'm glad to report I have not heard the screaming eagles. Gary's attempt to rectify the problem, as mentioned earlier, was very admirable. But, I'm wondering if he would've done what he did if I had not written my original review or filed a complaint with the BBB. Anyway, for those of you looking to take your vehicle to this place, be forewarned, I guess I was maybe one of the bad apples most places will have them. read more

I have had great experiences with Yosemite Auto Care! One of my cars had a brake problem that was intermittent and the dealer was unable to correct it. I went back and forth to the dealer for over a year. Finally I took it to Gary and in 10 minutes he had diagnosed it and the next day it was repaired. We've driven the car a lot since then and the problem is GONE! Then, on another occasion, I took my other car in to have the motor mounts replaced. When I went to pick the car up it wouldn't start. The timing belt had broken even though they had test driven it after replacing the motor mounts. The next day when I picked up the car Gary had done a complete valve job (all the valves got bent when the belt broke). I thought I would have to pay for the extra work but he refused my offer of payment! I offered to pay for at least the parts involved. Nope! He said since it happened in his shop it was his responsibility. Needless to say I'll be a loyal customer of his from now on. The service is always prompt and courteous. These are the best car repair experiences I've had in over 50 years of car ownership. read more
