Unbeatable value/quality ratio on their lunch bentos! You get salad, miso soup, 2 fried tempuras, 8 maki rolls (!!!), and a ton of veggies with a good portion of the main entree. It's a ridiculous amount of food for $11-13, and I don't understand how they make money at this point. Yoshi is the go-to Japanese restaurant in the Bellaire/West U area right now IMO. My boyfriend and I were aware that the restaurant closes at 10PM and walked in at 9:10PM. We both eat rather quickly, and this was our first time coming to this restaurant. There were no other customers when we walked in, and were surprised at how small it was. I told the lady at the register that we would like a table for 2, but instead of seating us she looked at the clock and at her coworker. The lady at the register looked annoyed, and her coworker repeatedly asked if we were dining in. At this point we just decided we would rather spend our money elsewhere instead, because why bother wasting our money at a restaurant that doesn't even want to serve you. The sushi was good but the ramen was not; it was lacking in flavor and the meats (chickens and pork) were overdone and dry. It's possible the poor quality was because they were slammed on Saturday. It may be that restaurants that are good at sushi are not good at ramen and vice versa; other ramen restaurants in Houston that serve good ramen don't try to also serve sushi. The sashimi entree is $24 for 14 generous pieces of fish aka 2 each of salmon, tuna, peppered tuna, peppered albacore, escolar, yellowtail, ?snapper and comes with choice of salad or soup. Got the soup which was your standard enjoyable miso soup. My partner ordered the tuna avocado hand roll which had a nice proportion of filling to rice. I don't care too much for tuna but I liked it. Eel dragon roll was decent - adequate amount of eel but too much crab (imitation) and not enough avocado in this one. Again I appreciate that the rolls were not made with too much rice. Lastly the Hanna tempura aka fried Brussels sprouts hit the spot. We ordered takeout given the pandemic situation, and I think the sprouts would have been even better if eaten fresh and still crispy instead of riding shotgun in my car for 15 minutes. Ordered soft shell crab, yellow tail roll and tonkatsu ramen. Soft shell crab came in a bed of lettuce... I only ate the crab and it was panki coated which remained crispy to the last bite. This is my not-so-secret go-to for takeout or delivery sushi. The fish is always fresh and the size of the sashimi is impressive! I also really like their brussels sprouts and seaweed salad. The salmon avocado (cut) roll is delicious (and great value too!) I really hope this place makes it through the pandemic as they're take-out only still. I ordered the vegetarian ramen which came with without tofu. I am sure if you ask to add a protein you can. You can ask them to adjust the spice level and they will add chili sauce to your ramen. Some of the best tasting and freshest sushi I have found near me. The tuna avocado roll and the red dragon roll or my favorites. I order the red dragon without the sauce and the garlic crunch but it's delicious just the way it comes. It's a very small space however, often times there is no problem getting a table. Best restaurant in terms of COVID-19 safety I've seen so far. There's no dine-in and everyone is wearing masks. There is a small waiting area with hand sanitizer etc. where you can order, and then they hand you your food through a little door in their floor-to-ceiling protective barrier. Everyone in the kitchen was wearing PPE. Online order for takeout had seamless hand-off.
