Yujo is very elegant, pretty and poised for their sushi dishes, sashimi, appetizers and rolls! I love the atmosphere of the Japanese look when you come in, and the dark walls that really hone you in by being illuminated by the warm lights above you. For my first time, I got the oyster shoot which was a 11/10!! the Maguro with chili ponzu 8/10, and volcano roll. 8/10. All were so delicious and made really well. This place is amazing from the moment you walk in. You feel like you are in another world, leaving the heat and traffic of Dallas behind as you enter a wonderful sushi den. The staff here is super. All of our questions were answered and they helped guide us on our experience. We ordered the Kyodai Roll, a Volcano Roll, and a California Roll. Everything was absolutely delicious! Had to come back to FINALLY try the Tuna Show and boy was I surprised. This is by far the best omakase experience I've come across. The show itself is amazing and the atmosphere of the whole experience is top notch. I understand now why it's so hard to get tickets. If you happen to get a chance to get tickets, PLEASE GO because you will not be disappointed. The cherry on top is the AYCE at the end as well. The chefs/staff are super friendly and super attentive. This review is for the Dallas location of Yujo. Yujo's sushi is not bad. They also have a flare for the theatrics meaning some pieces are presented with fancy plating, smoke, or spritz of gold flakes. Since Yujo is Vietnamese owned they actually have one piece of nigiri that stood out for me. On this piece they actually put a couple dots of fish sauce on top. This create a very unique taste, blending Vietnamese and Japanese flavors. It's actually very good. Two things that I didn't like were the tamago (egg) piece and the miso soup. I've been here before too and loved it but my only concern this time was that despite letting the chef know that I cannot have eel he put eel sauce on my hand roll. Wow wow wow. I didn't know I needed Yujo in my life. We ordered omakase - uni craze. Each piece is topped with fat uni. Uni, caviar, gold flakes, high quality fish and wagyu were presented in the most beautiful way. The wagyu pieces were super tender and buttery that melted in my mouth. I believe the pricing was around $75 per person but honestly it was pretty filling and I loved how much more intimate this location was compared to their frisco location! The service was friendly and the pace of the courses were perfect! The oyster starter was a liiiitle fishy for me but other than that every other piece was super fresh and yummy! Loved the uni and kanpachi - the chawanmushi and miso soup served towards the end of the course was also a perfect ending to the meal :) We also tried a few of their drinks - i reeeally enjoyed the Karai drink, it was the perfect blend of spicy, refreshing, and lightly sweet! As someone new to Dallas, I've been on the hunt for an intimate sushi spot with high-quality nigiri--and I'm so glad I found Yujo! This place came across my social media, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The restaurant itself is small, cozy, and quaint--exactly the kind of intimate vibe I was looking for. I went with my boyfriend, and together we tried nearly all the nigiri, from the specialty list to the standard selections. To start, I ordered the Lychee cocktail, which was perfectly balanced--sweet, light, and refreshing. My boyfriend ordered the Old Fashioned, and judging by the fact that he had three of them, I think it's safe to say he loved it. The menu has an excellent selection of nigiri with creative toppings. My absolute favorite was the Kinki nigiri from the dry-aged list--our server recommended it, and it did not disappoint. I also really enjoyed the chutoro and otoro nigiri, which were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My boyfriend went for the Wagyu roll and absolutely LOVED it. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic. Our waiter checked on us consistently, offered great recommendations, and made the evening feel very personal and welcoming. Overall, the sushi here is beyond fresh, the cocktails are great, and the ambiance is perfect for a date night. What a great experience! Yujo offers a Tuna Cutting Show once a month and I was able to attend their November show. This show is unique to Yujo and I haven't heard of anything like this in the Dallas area. When we arrived, we were seated and ordered drinks (Pacific 75 - Yuzu Sake with Honey). There was a bar area and table area. The show promptly started at 7PM where the chefs brought out the 180 lbs Bluefin Tuna! The chef explained where the fish came from (this tuna came from Baja California) and the different tuna cuts. Once the fish was sliced, the chefs started preparing the dishes since this was also a Toro Omakase. We started with a Tartare with Caviar then the different dishes came out. All throughout the omakase experience, the chef brought around the different slices of fish; he brought out the head, explained the colors of the meat, and taught us about their dry aging process, and more. The whole experience was very informational and delicious! My favorite dishes were the 22-day dry aged otoro (it was full of umami flavor) and the akami skewer (it tasted like barbecue!) After the omakase, we got shots to celebrate and we ordered a la carte at no additional cost (some dishes had an up-charge but we didn't order that). I highly recommend the Tuna Cutting Show at Yujo because it is a memorable experience! I heard about making reservations by following their Instagram page. read more

I really enjoyed our dining experience at Yujo. Our friends have been to Yujo several times and recommended we gave it a try. The four of us were able to sit at the Chef's counter and had the personalized Omakase experience. I can see why my friends love Yujo so much. The restaurant is not very large and have a nice, relaxing atmosphere about it. There were many courses and every omakase can be different. So I won't go into the details of what we had. There were good bites and great bites. We tried a few new things including dry-aged sashimi. While I can see the draw, I must admit I am not fully convinced I'd prefer dry-age sashimi vs. the good o'sashimi. But we did really really appreciate the personal attention & interaction with the chef, the explanation he provided, and overall, just casual feel of who dining experience. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Yujo and can understand why our friends picked Yujo as recommended sushi joint for us to try in our short one-week stay when there are so many choices in the Dallas area. read more

Staff was really great too. We had a 8pm reservation and it was busy so they were running a little behind which was fine to me, it happens. It's a small place. Yujo is quite good. Made a reservation here just in case cause it was Friday. We sat the bar and it was a little awkward because the seating is lower than the bar. I wish they changed that to make it easier. Service was very quick and friendly. I've had a lot of sushi in the DFW area so I do know what I like. Their fish is fresh and it was good, but to me, about half of the things they had, I liked better elsewhere. This isn't to say they're bad, I just have my preferences. The star items I did really really like here though was the Bonito tataki and the spicy tuna hand roll. It was soooo good. I think it was the addition of the crunchy fried garlic that made it over the top for me. As far as drinks, definitely liked the yujo sour better. We had a very nice meal here with our friends Brian M. and Carlie M. last night. This is the sister restaurant to Kyodai which we have been to in Carrollton with the same couple. There are a few omakase options, but everyone decided to order a la carte since the menu had a lot of interesting options. Eric R. and I shared the triple tuna, a sashimi dish with two slices each of akami, chutoro, and otoro. Every piece was flavorful, and I was especially surprised by the tastiness of the lean tuna. I enjoyed a toro handroll and four pieces of nigiri: black cod, salmon belly, shima aji (mackerel), and Golden Seafoam, which was scallop topped with foie gras and uni. I also enjoyed uni chawanmushi from the hot appetizer list (it takes time to prepare), which was egg custard that had some enoki mushrooms and seafood in it, topped with uni and caviar. Next I had a yellowtail handroll since I noticed yellowtail was not offered as sashimi or nigiri in any other way. To close out, I ordered the fatty roll which had wagyu, uni, scallop, and toro with avocado and shiso. It was decadent! Our friends had a VIP token which they redeemed for free sushi. The chef send seared fatty salmon with a spicy mayo broiled and a drizzle of eel sauce. It was very tasty. We enjoyed hot green tea throughout the meal which was refilled regularly, and many staff checked in on us to see how we were doing. My Asian Grub in DF Dub Facebook group did not steer me wrong. I've been looking for a really amazing omakase spot in DFW that's comparable to my favorite omakase spots in Los Angeles and this is the one right here. I almost don't want to share this review. I want to gate-keep the heck out of this place. I don't even know where to begin. Going to this place was kind of sketch, I'm not going to lie. We entered through the Shell parking lot into this huge strip mall. Don't let this deter you to coming here because it's deceptively beautiful inside too with incredible food! I made reservations on Tock and promptly got seated. We arrived 10 minutes early. They take a $25/person non-refundable deposit when you reserve, but they put it towards your bill at the end. We knew we wanted the omakase experience so we did the Tokujo omakase tasting which was 16 courses including appetizers and dessert. It was market price, but we paid around $160 per person. We also had the sake pairing. Everything that the chef put out in front of us was a work of art, as you can see from the pictures. Everything was unbelievably fresh and tasty. I can't pinpoint to one particular dish that I loved, but there are a few that come to mind -- this red snapper with a yuzu glaze, scallop with uni on top, and the unagi with foil gras. Each course was a perfect story of a journey the chef wanted to take us on. I would definitely come back here again. I think I might be obsessed. read more

I got to experience Yujo with a group of friends (party of 6) last month, a few days before Christmas, and we had a nice time. The six of us all opted for the premium omakase because we were very interested in trying the dry-aged fish that they advertise on their website and socials. For the most part everything we ate tasted good - some courses were more standout than others, and the vibe inside was pretty trendy. Service was also mostly prompt and everything was plated beautifully. The pros first: the sushi rice was excellent, the fish was all super fresh, and the dry-aged fish courses were very interesting and tasty. One of our initial courses was a sous vide salmon with ikura and wasabi crema that rocked our socks off, and one of our last decadent nigiri courses was unagi with nori, foie gras, and garlic chips, a true umami bomb. There were a lot of inventive flavor combos, and for the most part the fish wasn't ever too drowned out despite some of the more gimmicky bells and whistles (caviar, truffle, sprayed-on gold flakes, smoky bowls, etc). Drinks were also quite tasty throughout the evening. The cons: I think when a tasting menu is billed as 16 courses, it's a little odd to bring a tiny bowl of sashimi with one slice each of three different fish and say it's three courses out of the 16. Just seems a bit stingy to me, especially when it's presented as one dish. We were also at a corner table for our party so a lot of our nigiri came out 3-4 at a time, which is fine, but feels like a less personal touch than other omakase counters where you watch the chef prepare each nigiri and give it to you fresh. The fried sweet shrimp heads were also underfried - the best ones you can eat whole because they were fried enough to be totally crunchy all the way through, exoskeleton and all, but here only the skinny legs reached that level of crunch. At the end of the day, I think I just prefer a more traditional approach to omakase that allows the fish to shine in its purest form. That isn't to say that Yujo is bad - I would certainly return, possibly for an a la carte dinner in which I could control more of what I was eating, but for an omakase menu that suits my personal preferences more, I'd look elsewhere. read more

Brand new spot for Japanese food at Preston and LBJ (just a few doors down from Dougherty's). It is an intimate setting with a small sushi bar and a few tables. Definitely try to get a reservation! We went on a Saturday night without a res, and they got us in, but I know we were fortunate that night to get a seat. Service was impeccably attentive, and it was kind of unbelievable that they've only been open a couple of weeks. They definitely know their business. We started off with hubby's tuna sashimi and their roasted Brussels Sprouts - which, if I'm being honest, was my own personal reason for wanting to go. They were definitely in my top 3 Brussels Sprouts dishes I've ever eaten. They were roasted to perfection and tossed in an incredibly flavorful sauce. We went on Friday night during their soft opening, had reservations and were seated pretty promptly. It's a beautiful space and a lot of the customers were taking pictures of themselves . We asked the manager for a couple of not too sweet cocktails. Andrew, the bar tender, was very busy and was not taking any shortcuts. Getting the drinks took a while. Yujo has few versions of a fixed price menu. We opted for the super special one that ran $175 per person. Sake pairing added 25 pp. The food started before the drink came out . It was soft opening so we gave them grace for this minor lapse. The first course was a round salmon patty with ginger on a bed of avocado. Absolutely delicious and amongst the best "sushi" I've ever had. This and subsequent courses highlighted that Yujo sources excellent seafood and beef. They get both uni from Santa Barbara and from Japan. Speaking of Uni, I indicated that I'm not a fan and they offered to customize my dinner vs my wife's who does like Uni. Midway through dinner I changed my mind and they graciously adapted the remaining courses to include Uni. Apparently I just don't like bad Uni. At first service was a little off, for example there were at one point 3 courses piling up at our table. When I asked them to slow down, they did. The mystery drink was delicious by the way. Some combination of aged tequila, cucumber and the glass was finished with some wasabi salt or spice. A piece of art! Some other highlights: The Wagyu steamed beef just melted in our mouths. I would not have been able to identify it as beef if someone had placed it in my mouth blindfolded. Each course was presented in a beautiful manner. The dry aged fish, part of the, super special fixed price menu, was unique and delicious. Sake pairing hit the spot. We are not experts but loved the first two sakes and enjoyed the final, sweeter sake as it matched well with the final courses. The wine list is fairly priced. Seems like red wines are not at cellar temperature so if this important to you, stick with the white wine or just enjoy the sake. We left very full and happy that we tried this restaurant. My friend and I were going to go with just the Miyabi omakase but were convinced we needed the Tokujo after hearing about what was included (including dry aged fish!). They apologized in advance for putting us in that room in the front so it wouldn't be a bar experience and might have a lack of attention but I think neither my friend nor I thought that at all! Our dishes came out quick, and we were frequently checked on by the servers and who I assume was the owner or manager as well. We actually really liked the room, it was nice and spacious! Brian. Fucking. Reinhart. Look, I've loved the guy ever since his hilariously wheels-off evisceration of The Mexican (look up that D Mag review if you missed it). But man, you led us astray on this one, Brian. We excitedly booked a reservation here for the day after the D Mag mini-review hit. Affordable omakase?? Hell yeah! So, here's where Brian isn't totally to blame, because we assumed the 16-course "market price" omakase wouldn't be much more than the 13-course option ($75). I mean, Brian described the restaurant as affordable/approachable...with no caveats noted...and how much more could 3 extra courses cost?? Well, we deffffffinitely should have verified that price assumption, because when the bill came for $175/person, we were a little shell-shocked. Ok, price aside, let's talk taste buds. All of the nigiri were excellent. The other dishes were...fine. But for $175/person, every single course should be incredible. Service? I love the people here. I really want them to succeed. Everyone seemed so kind. That said, I have to say that there were several missteps. I'll overlook most of them given that they'd been open for less than a week. However, there was one issue too big not to mention. I have a shellfish allergy (side note: I appreciate that they're open to substitutions on the omakase for allergies) and informed the waitress of this when we ordered. But...I guess she didn't inform the chefs? Not one but TWO courses with shellfish were put in front of me. I noticed the first one; the second one was scallop under pudding, and I would have dug right into it without knowing if they hadn't frantically run over and stopped me. Kudos to the younger sushi chef who consistently kept an eye on the dishes being served to me. In terms of ambiance, the interior is lovely but falls short of the glamorous interiors of most restaurants in Dallas where I'd drop $175/person. The easiest and most impactful change they could make would be to adjust the lighting, which is rather bright. I realize it's tough to give the chefs the light they need in such a small space, but I think there's still room for improvement here. (Bathrooms too.) Finally, I have to note that the owner/manager(?) was going around to every table asking for one-star Google reviews. Sort of a shtick about how they aren't competing for stars, from what I understood (although I don't quite understand it -- ratings platforms are only helpful if the ratings mean something, and a single restaurant isn't going to break Google). Anyway, I mention that as a possible explanation for the bizarrely positive one-star review among the current Yelp reviews (not the one complaining of racism, which I didn't observe in any form, FYI). Ultimately, I wouldn't come back here for the 16-course omakase (so long as it's priced the same as others in DFW that, in my opinion, are more deserving of the pricetag), but the nigiri were fantastic, so I'd probably come back for that at some point. It's still not exactly cheap, but for those times that you want something a little more elevated than your neighborhood sushi joint, I think it'd be a good option for some nigiri and rolls. Or maybe that $75 omakase option is worth a try...but I think I'd rather spend my money exclusively on nigiri here. read more
