One of my favorite sushi buffets ever! I always come to this spot when I am visiting the area! The sushi is fresh, the rolls are not loaded with rice, the sashimi portions are generous and it is a buffet!!!!! What more can you ask for???? They also offer chinese food, and food they grill in front of you. Not a big fan as I am a sushi only junkie! I had a fun time. I took my younger brother, and we both ate a great deal of food. There were so many different choices of sushi. I loved the sashimi. Everything was clean. The mixed Asian cuisine buffet looked delicious. Had many classics to choose from, and yes we took advantage of that as well. They even had frozen yogurt, which we skipped because we ate too much. As for the rules posted. Don't worry about them too much. You won't wanna sit in there for 2 hours anyway, or you'll get fat eating everything in sight. I'd say my only issue was the server not bringing me the check when we were done. We sat there for a while waiting for our check, and it never came so I just paid upfront. All-in-all, it's a nice little affordable place for sushi lovers so you should give it a try. read more

We always come here when visiting va beach , prices are great , good assortment of sushi's , sashimi and rolls , crabs , oysters , coconut shrimp, honey chicken , dim sum is great , seaweed salad, there's stir fry station , miso soup ... . They have bubble tea and drinks . Now with COVID they make you use masks and gloves and hike getting food from the stations . There was no line of people (I always come around 8.30 pm ). read more

my dad loves coming to this place - why i'm not sure why... i tried it again after avoiding it for months, but it was just A-OK this time. the sushi quality is started to turn into fried everything. there's more rice than there is fish and the quality just seems to be mushy everything. i do like that they have other options for people who might not be into mushy fish, but even those options are so limited in taste. it isn't horrible to the point where you'll get sick, but it isn't something you'll go up to get seconds. i'd rather spend more money to eat quality sushi than to get questionable quality here. read more

The selection of food was limited, people every where breathing down your neck as you fix your plate, and eating off of their plates while waiting in the buffet line. I saw one of the waiters pushing a cart FULL of dirty dishes (plates, cups, silverware) behind the narrow buffet area (very unsanitary). Limited selection of items on the hibachi line (broccoli tray empty), NO GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN, NO BEEF & BROCCOLI, NO CHICKEN WINGS, OR SHRIMP FRIED RICE. The sushi has a mushy texture. The only thing that was decent was the veggie Lo Mein. The fried shrimp still had its heads & were not deveined or peeled so you have to peel the shell which was tough and stuck to the shrimp. The minute we were done with our plates he would take them, our glasses were filled the whole time we ate, and he would check on us every 5 minutes to see how we were doing. He brought our check early but told us to take our time. We spotted food under the table from the previous customers but he cleaned it up no problem. His cheerful hardworking attitude made my family's experience there so great. I took a star out for the food. I like how they have pho options but the soup was a little bland. I like how they have different sushi varieties but the taste is pretty ordinary. I didn't have a favorite because nothing stood out to me. Yukai is not as I remember it when I was a kid. I feel like there aren't a lot of options. Also, I've experienced inconsistencies in their cooking and presentations. For example, I went to celebrate my grandpa's birthday, and I tried the fried rice. It tasted like coconut oil. I'm not sure why, but it didn't taste good to me. Then I went back another time because my grandma wanted to have lunch here. And I noticed they had salmon and tuna sushi/ngiri but they didn't have the sashimi out? The first time I went they had sashimi but no ngiri. I think Yukai is a tad bit overpriced at $17 per person, but it IS a buffet. I wish there were more options at Yukai. read more

Most of the time, this place is kind of lousy. The service is consistently bad, their pho is terrible, and the crab legs they advertise do not taste fresh at all. It's almost like they saved them from the night (or nights) before and resteamed them. The texture was all wrong, and definitely not worth their new $17 buffet price. Their sushi is decent, though. They don't load their rolls up with rice like other buffets. They have a good range of other food options, and a lot of dessert including a chocolate fountain, and a self serve frozen yogurt machine! Overall, I would really only go here if I was craving a lot of sushi and Chinese food during a week day. If not, eh. I could easily go to a closer sushi place or order take out and be equally satisfied. They could really work on their customer service skills and make their pho better too. This buffet, I mean this buffet... I am not one to suggest going to a buffet to go eat. Usually, it's someone else's suggestion and I just go with the flow. However, I have personally chosen and recommended this buffet. The flavor and the variety is fantastic! I always start with a plate of their sushi and select sashimi. Their sushi is great! There are two guys who are constantly putting out sushi. Their wait staff isn't always the friendliest/customer service related, but I have had some spot on wait service in the past. Oh and their dessert is actually tasty. I always seem to find the dessert at buffets to be pretty bland and terrible, but that's not te case with this place! Anywho, I alway stuff my face here, and leave satisfied. read more

Recently came down from Northern Virginia and got the chance to eat here. The food here is okay, nothing particularly stands out but it's not bad either. The buffet offers a decent selection of asian dishes in their hot foods bar and also hibachi, pho, and sushi for an inexpensive price. The meals are more catered to western palates so if you're looking for something more authentic you may want to find a different place. I read some reviews that talked about getting sick or having digestive issues from here. So far no one from my group has gotten sick. I enjoyed the all you can eat sushi. It tasted pretty good (though not exceptional) and for the price it's definitely a steal. I've been to other places where the sushi felt and tasted cold most likely due to having been in the refrigerator. At this place it tasted room temperature/normal. No gross taste of someone spending too much time touching the sushi or getting gross from sitting out too long either. I did notice that the cut of some of the seafood was off (some pieces of tuna and salmon looked more jagged). It could be due to a lack of cutting skills from the chef or due to their knife. read more

Dinner and lunch are the same price. I've been twice and dinner was better for whatever reason. Didn't like being seated at a table in the middle of everyone else though (wish there were more booths, I wasn't the only one with this complaint.) Once upon a time, Yukai was my go-to for a sushi buffet. However, they have seriously declined in the customer service area. First of all, the military discount is applied INDIVIDUALLY, not to the check itself. Meaning even if you're picking up the check, they'll only discount the people who have military IDs. I've NEVER seen that done because it makes no sense. When my table started talking amongst ourselves about how ridiculous that policy is, we noticed the wait staff staring at us and whispering. They didn't even try to hide it. This was after the debit card was already handed over to our waitress. Idk what's happened in this past year but management is clearly slacking in the hiring department. I'll never give them my business again. Misako is a much better alternative (clean, ber food) and it comes with the bonus of a friendly and accommodating staff. read more

The only reason I gave this two stars was because it wasn't the worst place I have ever been in my life. It was close though. Don't even bother if you care about quality. You're better off going to Sushi King in Norfolk. Just a bunch of fried crap, bad seafood (they told me the crab smelled rotten because of the seasoning), and poorly made sushi. The food here is pretty good. The plethora makes it feel like a feeding trough. I've been here 3 times and the last time I was there, a stink bug flew into my dessert. I lost my appetite at that point, thankful I was at the end of my meal. Late at night my stomach was super upset and my body temperature elevated. I think the raw oysters, fish, mussels were not fresh enough and got me sick. I will not be returning to this restaurant. For the most part, Yukai delivers a solid experience all around. It used to be more sushi-centric, but now they have expanded their offerings and most of it is pretty good! I like that there is a lot of variety to the sushi rolls. Sometimes I'm concerned about how long sushi sits out on the table, but on a Sunday night when the restaurant is pretty full, you don't even have to worry about it. They were restocking the sushi pretty regularly! They also had some other seafood (crabs, crawfish, salmon), a MTO grill and pho station, soups, salad station, desserts, and some basic Asian fare like beef and broccoli and my FAVORITE-- string beans. The kids in our group loved the chocolate fondue although I didn't partake. The ice cream machine is awesome! I had a mix of strawberry and dark chocolate and it was delicious! It's a nice way to cap off your meal. Service was prompt and friendly all around. The waitstaff are kept super busy with all the plates all the time. Location wise... This is the best buffet I have been to period. I don't live in the area anymore and I don't ever eat at a buffet style Restaurants, however every time I visit VA Beach I find myself visiting Yukai. It's been a long time since I went to a traditional style buffet, and this place definitely didn't disappoint. At first I thought this was my first time here, but it turns out that I have been here before when me and my friend went to the actual beach and dropped by here before we went home. I really enjoyed the food that I had here, especially the hot dishes and the sea food. The sushi was pretty good as well, although it does taste a little old, which is expected when it sits out for more than 5 minutes. I dig the crab ragoon and the seasame ball, which is something that I always end up getting at any establishment that offers them. I did want to try their bubble tea to see how it is, but apparently they are out of it? It's in big advertisement out front so a little bummed but it's not the end of the world Our server Tatiana was really nice and always made sure we got everythingg that we needed, as well as making good recommendation to what we can get at the stations. I think this place is quite cost effective. Lunch buffet for $12 and even lower with some member discounts. The price for kids is a little over, I think, especially for a 3 year old. There are many Asian food selection. The Korean beef short ribs were my favorite. The Japanese sushi/sashimi and cold dishes were also good, although I usually don't eat too much those for freshness concerns. Some of my friends did complain about the freshness. The clams, mussels and coconut shrimps were delicious. There aren't any fresh fruit choices though, and not many American jumk food choices either, such as, fries, fried chicken, mac & cheese that you can expect for any buffet. read more
