Ordered food on the phone with he person on the phone is very friendly offered other entrees besides the Chicken sweet and sour and the hot and spicy soup. Good parking lighted area found parking immediately. The restaurant looks clean and organized, I was excited to get my first to try the chicken sweet and sour rated 3 out of 5 It was tasty and acceptable but it was not the best- there's good amount of carrots and pineapple so it was ok. Hot and sour was so salty that we did not bother to eat. Sorry :( Probably a good place for Dimsum, must try for that. read more

Las Vegas Chinatown is know for having some of the best Asian food in the entire Las Vegas area. And with that, dim sum happens to be one of those specialties the area is known for. That's why when I returned to Vegas, I set out to look for more places to grab some dim sum. After searching across Yelp, I came across Yum Cha with a hefty sum of reviews which piqued my interest. I made my way over to Yum Cha with a party of five on a Monday around 1PM to see only a few groups in the restaurant. And looking around , the decor was very unique. While the tables and chairs were modest, the walls were painted with olive green paint and decorative bird cages were hanging from the ceiling. Not exactly something one would typically find in a dim sum restaurant, but it was interesting from a creativity standpoint. After looking around, my party took a look at the menu and saw a few specialty dishes along with typical dim sum favorites; there is definitely something for everyone. With prices ranging from $5 for a small, $6.28 for a medium, $6.90 for a large, $8.38 for an extra large, and $11.38 for a "super", prices were around standard for a place of this caliber. And for each individual dish, portion was given in similar quantity to most other places. With that said, price to portion wasn't bad. Looking at the taste of the food, most items were good while others fell short. I personally enjoyed the radish cake (crispy exterior), pork and vegetable tofu skin roll (ratio of ingredients to skin), shao mai (moisture of the meat), pork spareribs (tenderness of the meat), and beef tripe. But while these were great, the beef rice rolls (lack of beef), shrimp rice rolls (small shrimp), and beef balls (meat texture) fell flat. From this category, there wasn't too big of a problem. So what went wrong? For one, the first page of the menu mentioned that an 18% gratuity would be added for parties of four or more. Although it isn't unheard of to have forced gratuity, the fact it was being charged for such a small number of people was confusing. To make matters worse, the staff only came by once in awhile to check up, fill waters, and take more orders. Not bad service, but not at the level where it would warrant the added 18%. At the end of the meal, we were charged for three teas instead of the single one we ordered. And on top of all of this, the tip line was left open which misleads the customer to add more tip on top of the gratituity charge. Each of these instances looked at individually could be a simple misunderstanding. But with so many different upcharges in one sitting, it seemed very suspicious. My first experience at Yum Cha was overall not bad. But because of the flavors of certain food items, the forced 18% gratuity, the open tip tab, and the overcharge for the tea, I'd argue the entire experience only meets the bar of a solid 3/5. While the food could easily pass at a four star rating, I couldn't help but feel that the fees were somewhat unjust. Dim Sum is supposed to be a social eating experience with larger groups of people; limiting this to smaller groups just felt out of place. Would I return? This place is amazing! We were given recommendations for soup and dessert, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint! especially their take on the filled pineapple bun. Dim sum craving satisfied! We stopped by on a Monday at around 12:30pm and were really glad we did! Service is quick and helpful - we never really had to wait for anything. We were seated right away, ordered as soon as we were ready, and got our tea/water pretty soon after, quickly followed by our dim sum. Empty steamers were removed from our table quickly and often. Now, for the food! Shrimp and Pork Shumai: juicy and flavorful, per my seafood-eating friends' accounts! They would get it again. :) Chicken Shumai: also juicy and flavorful, though I can't compare it to the shrimp and pork shumai. I didn't need much soy sauce or chili oil to enjoy it. :) Bean Sauce Chicken Feet: soft, but not too soft, gelatinous texture! It was flavorful and tasty! Solid chicken feet. :) We ordered an additional one, so we must have enjoyed it! Steam Pork Ribs with Taro: a nice portion with a good amount of meat on the bones! This was also flavorful and a solid pick! We got an additional order of this, too. :) Beef Rice Noodle: solid! I would say that the beef filling and rice noodle weren't super consistent in location or ratio, but this wasn't really a problem for me. Definitely still enjoyed it! Shrimp Dumpling/Har gow: my partner says, "It was pretty good, too!" Golden Sand Lava Custard Bun: nice, crispy, crumbly top with a generous amount of custard that definitely flows out like lava! The combination of textures was great, but this is definitely on the sweeter side. :) My only other note is that we couldn't really get the wrapper/paper off of the bottom of the bun, so we just kind of ate top down? Arrived on a Thursday with the family. This USED to be our go-to, 1st stop every time we drive to Vegas from Orange County. Sadly, we are now BOYCOTTING this greedy excuse of a restaurant. They charge you a 20% service fee for no reason at all. Because of this, we cut down our tip since the bill was way too much with that addt'l service fee. The server are now losing out of their hard-earned tips all due to the greed of the restaurant owner. So sad and unnecessary... be smart, look at the big picture, and do better Yum Cha. We had visited this place for Dim Sum a few years ago, and remembered that it was amazing. Same experience today ! Excellent flavors, and very fresh. They don't have the steamer carts going around the room but rather they make each dish fresh so they come out steaming hot ! The staff is very friendly , highly recommend this place. I especially loved how they cut up the Chinese Broccoli into smaller more manageable pieces, it's always a challenge picking them up with chopsticks other wise ! . We want some dim sum before heading back from Vegas and decide to give this place a try. To be honest, the food is hot and good but nothing out of the ordinary with the exception of the custard bun. That bun along deserve five stars. It was flaky and gooey. So good we order to go to eat later. The reason for 3 stars was the wait. They took a long time to get our food out. So?! What does one do when they get to Las Vegas besides gamble?! We eat extraordinary food, that may not be available to us, where we live... and, go to neat little excursions to make our trips even more memorable... I always knew that Las Vegas has a wonderful ChinaTown, and I have been extremely fortunate to have tried some off the beaten path / not so beaten path yummy joints... though, never dim sum (besides, of course Din Tai Fung)... I look up where to go, I search the FB boards, I reviewed YELP! and, I found this place - which?! I am so happy, I listened to my gut and went... We were one of the few caucasians and in that... I always find comfort - because, it indirectly shares with me that this is a place that is found favorable amongst the type of culture the food represents.. The service was amazing - everyone, was so welcoming and wanted to do the best by us... and, the large expansive room was comfortable with plenty of booths and large tables, if you are a huge party... The pricing was more than reasonable and the food was pretty damn delicious. We had the quintessential dim sum food and they did not disappoint. We love Thai food and we're always searching for great Thai restaurants. So we decided to try Yum Cha because we were visiting the area. As for the food, this is not the best Thai restaurant around. A bit on the bland side in my opinion. The fish was small and had lots of bones. Papaya Salad lacked spice and the sauce did not soak into the papaya. Tom yum soup needed more coconut and was very watered down. Fried rice was a bit soggy. Nothing stood out except for the Thai Tea. My kids loved the popsicle. Restaurant was clean, atmosphere was good, and staff were nice. We probably won't come back except for the Thai Tea. read more

When I asked my first boss out of college why he always ate dessert before the appetizers and main courses he responded with a smile, "I never want to miss it!" That man was a starting lineman who went to K-State, and would always have your back in bar fight. In fact, when he was around no fights happened. Fast forward to recent history, I got yelled at numerous times by a past partner who tried to preach and restrict how food could be consumed. Fries before the burger was a complete travesty, she'd literally shout "wtf are you doing, eat the burger first!" I was too shocked to reply. The moral of this story, you can consume a feast however you see fit, especially when it comes to dim sum. Order the full menu, eat it how you like, it's doesn't matter. If these real events inspired you, trust me, drop that partner like a bad habit.     As for the feast that inspired this, the legendary Yum Cha included the Crab Rangoon [Salad made with crab or imitation crab typically tossed in seasioning and mayonnaise], Fish Cakes, DS6 Steam BBQ Pork Bun, DS2 Chives Dumplings, DS1 Shumai (Shrimp Pork) Dumplings, Lo Mein, and many more which I should have notated from the menu but I can not match the photos. Honestly, it doesn't matter I would try anything there and be happy! The spot was a lot of fun too, great for dates to large parties. The service is quick, and the food comes out fast. Actually, the waitress was really nice but got our order mixed up and the food was.... decent or below average. I'm gonna stick with the 3 stars because it's alright, but I wouldn't go back here. Yum Cha. Sounds tasty doesn't it? Unfortunately a couple of things left a bad taste in my mouth. Four stars and all day dim sum seemed like a sure fire winner. Remember, this is Vegas and in Vegas there is no such thing as a sure thing. Things started well as we arrived about 1&1/2 hours before closing. We were given a cheerful welcome and seated promptly. 1st thing I noticed was a dirty table when the place wasn't even busy. Then, lo and behold, the restaurant was using PAPER PLATES! A sit down restaurant with paper plates. I felt like Han Solo muttering, "I've got a BAD feeling about this ". Then came the menu. Dear Valued Customers. A gratuity of 18% will be added to the bill for party of 4 & more (grammatical errors as written). Gee, gotta pay for those PAPER PLATES somehow right? Now the food itself wasn't bad but a lot of it was barely warm. The only thing that impressed me was the Har Gow with plump shrimp. The baos were undersized, the shumai average, pork riblets lacking, and a decent beef rice noodle. Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast isn't losing any sleep over these guys. Maybe this joint was happening once upon a time but that was then and this is now. The kicker that got my goat was after being expected to tip these guys 18% for this disappointment of a dinner, we paid our bill and waited for our waitress to return. After a lengthy wait, she came by to ask if we needed something else. YEAH. OUR CHANGE! After overpaying for this travesty, she looked at us bewildered that we actually expected to get our change back. What? 18% wasn't enough for minimal service but you wanted MORE? I wanted to go full on Bruce Lee at the end of Chinese Connection where he jumps at the crooked cops waiting to take him out at the end of the film. based on the good reviews, today we tried it for the first time. First impression was minimal decor and relatively clean. We ordered the classic dim sum, disappointed. Generally the flour wrapping, including HaGao and shrimp churnfun (rice noodle wrapped shrimp), were mushy and thick. the shrimp in the churnfun were small and the curry sauce was watery and tasteless (mixed in with potato bits and beans, weird!). The shiumai has no meat flavor but certainly MSG and lots of grease. The shui lung bao was a mere small mouthful of grease. In general the food tasted bland! The Chrysanthemum Tea has hot water with a few petals. Pricey for the quality, or lack of! For the price they charged, I could have gotten better value at other eateries. Came here several times but this was the worse ordered our dim sum which was not hard to understand because we pointed everything out on the menu. Ordered a here dim sum and a lunch special which included an entree spring roll egg drop soup and rice. Got it dim sum then got what supposed to be lunch special sweet sort pork rice spring roll and egg drop soup for 11.95 but instead only got entree and rice. Brought it to the attention of our boy server and said oh you wanted lunch special i wrote it wrong and wore regular entree umm ok but i ordered the lunch special then he went to ask and they said they don't serve lunch special on holidays. Ok again it's not a holiday so what holiday is it he said Christmas I said Christmas was like 4 days ago. He said what do we want to do then he went to talk to someone came back and said they don't have lunch special so i told him ok we don't want it and I'm not paying for something i didn't order. I know exceptional quality dim sum and this is not the place. Restroom has a very strong mix chemical smell as it is storing many different chemicals. I would not put my purse anywhere in that restroom, it is better to hold it or it better not to use this restroom at all. To test the quality of their food, I ordered the pork siu mai, bbq pork bun, beef rice noodle roll, veggies bean curl wrap, spare ribs, and coconut bun. The food tasted like they had been reheated for several days. I didn't bother to finish the food cause I got a long drive and it's not easy to find a restroom. I would say this is a very decent Cantonese dim sum place. The place has a wide offering of the variety of dim sum dishes. And with any typical dim sum places, when you go, go with some friends. Then you have a chance to try lots of dishes. I would say the optimum size of your party would be 3-6. Or bring a big appetite, like me :-) Well, onto the dishes... I would say anything deep fried, they do really well. This is one of the best tasting Tarot dumpling that I have tried. It was flaky, and crispy, with the inside full of tarot flavor and tasty bits of pork and shrimp. Similarly, the flaky crust bbq pork dumpling was just as good. The hai gow was ok with the wrap is still thick. To find one that is thinly wrapped is almost finding a unicorn here in the US. The chicken feet was flavorful, yet perhaps a little overdone, my opinion. The spare ribs dish surprised me with cubes of tarot, which cuts the fatty richness of the broth.
