I am happy that there is another choice in Asian cuisine out here. I am a bit of an unfair reviewer this time around. When it comes to the best "Chinese" food, it is hands down Ming's cafe. Which they used to be in the Montrose area, but relocated to Austin I believe. I compare what I thought was the best in Houston to everything else. The service was friendly and throughly explained some of the items on the menu. I ordered the spring rolls and special lo mien. This were very delicious... decent flavor, yet not as much veggies and meat as I've had in the past. I was impressed enough to know that everything was prepared fresh and made to order. It was good in all and it would be nice if they deliver to my house which is just outside their 5 mile radius, but she did mention they would gladly deliver if they were not too busy. That would be awesome! So I will try this place again and explore some of their non-popular dishes to see if they bring anything unique I haven't tried. Being a Houston native, our family has tried many Chinese restaurants. This is by far our favorite Chinese food in the Richmond area. The wonton soup and sweet and sour chicken are the best we've ever had. We really enjoy that the jalapeno chicken is actually spicy. You receive large portions and the lunch specials (before 4PM daily) are great deals. Keep up the great and consistent work Yumi Cafe! We'll be back soon! read more

I was really looking for a great Chinese place with great food. I visited Yumi- even after some of the reviews I read because I like to judge for myself. I sat down and the server was friendly, making a few suggestions. Very nice. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and an egg roll with tea to drink. The place was pretty steady both inside and take-out. The portions are very large. The S&S chicken was hot and tender. The fried rice was bland, and not great. Very little egg, carrot, peas, or flavoring. I would not order again but would stick to steamed rice. No on the egg rolls too. They weren't fresh and did not have good flavor. Took a bite, left the rest. I would say hit and miss here. Will look for another place. I will say the place is clean, and the tea was good. Just okay. read more

I have ordered food from this place twice, to give them the benefit of the doubt. This has to be the worst Chinese food I have had in the Greater Houston area. The only flavor in the soup was salt. The only flavor on the crab puffs(that contained no crab) was bad bad cooking oil. There was no flavor in either the beef of chicken I had. I may be spoiled by the availability of restaurants on Bellaire and places like Fung's but this place is worse that any restaurant of buffet in the area. Skip this place. read more

Terrible service. The food at best is a 6, but what really gets me is the fact that I ordered a meal, some tofu rolls and an extra fried rice. They delivered an 1 hour later with no fried rice, I immediately called back, MAYBE 2 minutes after the delivery guy left and the MANAGER told me "well there should be fried rice" "ummmmm yeh, I payed for it so it should be here, but it's not..... which is why I'm calling." The food here is good, one of my favorite Chinese restaurants for Americanized Chinese food. Good flavor, really large portion sizes, great lunch specials. With the lunch specials you are given soup and fried rice and an eggroll. The curry chicken is very good and the general tso chicken is also very tasty. Service is fast and its a great place to grab lunch in a hurry. It's a small place with unassuming decor but its very clean. read more

I came in after Hurricane Harvey on the 30 and the 1st. The place was packed all day and night from what I saw. The wait was long (it was the only place open so i understood), but i appreciated that they stayed open, and the food was still amazing in quality. Disappointed says it all. The food reminded me of the pf changs frozen meals you can buy at the grocery store. It was bland, the beef was boiled, the rice was ok, egg rolls just ok too. I was hoping for authentic Chinese. I don't understand why Chinese restaurants Americanize their food. If you go to most Vietnamese restaurants they stay true to the authentic food, needless to say that's why it's hard to get a seat. The people were friendly and fast, just need to up the authenticity here. read more

CAUTION: Maggots in the beef with broccoli! We've eaten here plenty of times (10+ times) in a year and four months. We've spent over $600 there in that time with no complaints... we are happy to pay for our food. We are NOT complainers. The delivery was received tonight and within 15 minutes of arrival, we had all eaten about half of our food and found that nasty guy! When we addressed it with the owner tonight he never apologized - he said he didn't know how long ago it was. When told it was no more than 45 minutes ago he said he offered to send us my son's meal again remade. We told him no thank you... after finding that in our food we didn't really have the stomach for more maggot infested food. After my husband asked what he could do for us when we don't really want to eat there again he offered a store credit for the amount of my son's meal alone. We had just thrown away all of our food (approximately $75 - ironically, our largest ticket there yet). When we declined he offered $15 refund. We told him to keep it. We will find another place to spend that $600 on. Have pictures of maggot on the dish, along with pictures of my B of A account search for "Yumi" that reflects more than $600 spent there from 1/2016-5/2017. Let's start with we were seated right away. By the nicest woman!! I love to mix hot and sour soup with egg drop soup and they were very willing to mix! Yay! AND it was super tasty!! I live nearby and this is my go to place. I've ate at the restaurant, I've picked up, and I've had my food delivered. Zero complaints, no long wait food is ready in the time frame they say it will be, clean, no mess and always friendly.
