Lived in south end for 4 years and have been mostly underwhelmed by food options as someone who values food quality+uniqueness over atmosphere. The atmosphere here is good, but food was great. Ordered rice cakes without pork to make it veg; and flavors were unique and portion size was good. Just looking at the menu, I see a lot of unique options to the region of China that are less commonly seen, alongside some common items (eg General Tso Chicken) so hope the neighborhood embraces the more unique options. Plan to try other items and dining is is also pretty nice for a meal with drinks. read more

My husband lived in Yunnan for 2 years and I've visited a few times so while it's not traditional, I'm happy to report that this spot offers an excellent modern take on Yunnan cuisine. Very nice small restaurant, some great foods in the menu although it's not too big of a choice. Very calm place to eat at and the staff is very nice to customers. The guy that attends everyone from the looks of it seems like he knows what he does, the lady who was there was also really nice and overall it was great. I went here because of a delicacy which tasted really good from the looks of it and man was it great. I'd come here again if I can. The only downfall was that the AC was pretty low which was fine with me since I love the cold but not so sure for other people. 94/100 read more

Went here a few times and ordered bunch of take out. Definitely recommend their Dali mushroom dish!! Noodle dishes are great too.Always a good service. The only thing they need to improve is to peel their shrimps off before putting them on the dishes. I will be here every weekend in the cold time of the year since their dishes are very hearty and full of unusual flavors that I love a lot!! read more

I am a Uber delivery driver. I asked to use the bathroom before delivering an order for your establishment but I was told that it's for customers only. That is absurd to me that. I got the snow pea pod leaves, scallion pancakes, and beef with pickled vegetables. I am not exaggerating when I say that the snow pea pod leaves are a revelation. I'm Not sure why something that seems so simple is so delicious. Fresh, packed with flavor, and downright addictive, I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this dish. The scallion pancakes were light and crispy and the beef was tender and spicy (but not too much so) with a perfect bright punch from the pickled vegetables. I can't wait to try other dishes! The worst! I went in there tonight, and I ordered scallion, pancakes, pan, fried pork, dumplings, and general GAO's chicken. Within four minutes they bring the entrée out the chicken. It looks like something from Panda Express . I asked the waiter to take it back and bring me my appetizers first. So they brought the Scallion pancakes out and they were the most disgusting things I've ever been served. It was a skillet of greasy overfried pancake. In the pancake, there were tiny bits of scallion that you could not even taste. It was so disappointing. My fingers were covered with grease. I sent it back. They brought out the dumplings and they were delicious. I don't know how but they got those right. Then they brought out the Gao's chicken and it really was like a panda express lunch entrée. I ate it because I was starving and I was dreaming about Chinese food all day, but it was really the biggest disappointment of my trip to Boston. I don't know how this place has any good reviews because it was really disgusting. Don't go here! read more

Another example of people believing everything they read, especially in regards to restaurant reviews. Food was "ok" (but not outstanding in any way) however the service and "ambience" were terrible! So dark you couldn't read the menu or see the food you were eating. Rice was served AFTER the rest of the dishes (ever heard of that in a Chinese restaurant?) I know I like the rice first so I can put the main food on top. My impression was that someone's kids were running the place while the adults were away. The 4 staff sat in the front and were on their phones the entire time we were there. Had to wave vigorously to get their attention, get silverware, order more food. From their attitude they just didn't seem to care; attitude suggested they would just as soon be somewhere else. Prices were ok but the servings were on the smallish size. I wouldn't go out of your way. Many Chinese restaurants better or comparable elsewhere. read more

Popped in again recently with some friends. It's unfortunate that the service's gone downhills. Person who took our order was practically muttering to themself (we could barely hear them) and was extremely unfamiliar with common allergens such as diary and gluten. We were asked constantly if we were done and were passive aggressively given our check when we were still working on what we had ordered. Quality of food isn't as good as what we had before. Less fresh and sometimes hard to chew. The change of staff isn't working. Bring the old crew back. They were awesome and made people feel welcome. What happened to them?? Current staff are rude and dismissive to say the least. It's difficult for me to recommend this place to anyone again. read more

Interesting, but nothing I'd hurry back for. My take on the things we tried: Deep Fried Pea Jelly - Don't understand the many positive reviews. Tastes like fried tofu. Bland. Better when dipped into spicy powder, hot & salty, but an MSG-bomb. Potato Pancake - Liked this. Crisp outside. Nice texture. Done well, but it's really just a well-prepared grated potato pancake. Meat Balls - Fine, but no one is going to think, "these are delicious." Mostly sticky rice ball in gelatinous sticky rice sauce. Chicken w/ Broccoli - Wife stays away from spicy. But I'd suggest staying away from "The Classics" part of menu. This was no better than what you'd get in your corner take-out place. If you want to avoid spicy, stick with appetizers that will at least let you try something unusual. Fish in Chile Oil - Toughest to review. At first, I really liked it. And it's a huge portion. But there was some sort of spice in it that was too dominant. Not sure what it was. Not a sichuan taste that I know. Not hot. More like clove. And impossible to get rid of. Found myself using beer to try to shake it from tingling my tongue. The fish itself was very good. But I'd never order it again due to this particular spice. Rice Pudding - Another one that was interesting, but just not that good. The toppings were the best thing about it, but $18 to enjoy some preserved fruit doesn't work for me. Hard to get too excited about sweetened sticky rice sitting on top of a fried egg. Was sorry we did not get the coconut pudding. The service was very nice & so was atmosphere. But I'd rather end a meal thinking it tasted really good, instead of "that was interesting." read more

Very home cooked taste, authentic like you're invited to a Chinese family. We love the woodear mushroom salad, stir fried rice cake, potato pancakes, snow pea leaves, spicy shrimp and sticky rice meat balls. The spices really elevate the potato pancakes and the dish would've been even better if the spices were all over. The pea leaves could use a little less oil but flavor is very good. The garlic shrimp was very chewy and unpeeled. Took forever to peel and was very very hard ti unreel. I was really wishing it was less shrimp, because it was so hard to unreel. Unbelievable. We absolutely loved everything we got! The fish with pickles comes with delicious homemade pickled vegetables and a super flavorful sauce with bites of szechuan peppercorns. I love stir fried rice cakes and these were top notch. The Yunnan style rice pancakes were fluffy but dense at the same time and were delightful with the sweet dipping sauce. The mint beef was incredibly flavorful and tender. Even the fried pork dumplings were excellent! Cannot wait to go back! read more
