Yunta is hands down one of the best fusion restaurants I've experienced to date. Their Peruvian-Japanese (Nikkei) concept is executed flawlessly, and it shows in every single detail. From the drinks alone, you can tell they take their craft seriously. The cocktails are incredible, but what really stood out to me were the mocktails. Thoughtful, well-balanced, and not an afterthought like they often are which I appreciated very very much. I've now tried just about everything on the menu, and every dish has been consistently amazing. That kind of consistency is rare and says a lot about the kitchen. This has become my go-to spot for special occasions - anniversaries, birthdays, or whenever I have friends visiting Charlotte. Without fail, everyone leaves saying it was the most memorable dining experience they've had here. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, perfect for both celebrations and a really good night out. And the service!!! Truly exceptional. The team takes their time to walk you through the menu, explain dishes, and make sure you feel taken care of. Easily a 5/5. A restaurant and staff worth celebrating!

Ambience- great ambience. It's a low light environment with a live DJ that plays instrumental music. The tables are situated snuggly together and each table has a little yellow light lamp and it really feels like a modern, New York City style, eatery. It's quite a big establishment but is packed to the brim with people so make a reservation! I sat on the patio outside and it was a great space for fresh air while still feeling cozy and intimate. Service- incredible service. Our waiter was attentive and informative. No notes. Food- the complimentary appetizer is this fried/puffed corn that they refill on your table if needed. This was a perfect light snack to have when you're just talking with friends and waiting for your food. If you've ever had the gas station snack called a Corn Nut, it's very similar to that but seasoned with just salt and it's a little more airy As for the food, it would take too long to genuinely review everything but these are the heavy hitters . The Peruvian seafood risotto was the best version of itself I've ever had. It's creamy, flavorful, and the seafood is perfectly cooked and plentiful. I don't understand how they pack so much flavor and so much food into this dish. The portion is very generous. And it made for perfect leftovers the next day. It felt so luxurious and the presentation really matched the energy of the restaurant. The salmon nigiri and the scallop nigiri with truffle butter was absolutely phenomenal. These are the only nigiri I've tried here but listen to me when it say the flavor of these two was unlike anything I've tried. The addition of yuzu in the salmon perfectly cuts through the fattiness of the salmon. And the rice is perfectly cooked and a little warm. The scallop with truffle butter is torched at your table and the subtle earthy flavor of the truffle butter (if you like truffle) is incredible and creates for the most luscious buttery and comforting bite. Both were incredibly tender pieces of nigiri and given that there's only 4 pieces per serving, you're forced to really savor and appreciate each bite. This is definitely something I will order again. Ceviche- the best ceviche I've had at least in the Carolina's. The fish is cut into generously sized cubes, which make for a hearty and flavor packed bite each time which I really loved. I feel like a lot of places I've been to serve too small of a portion of the fish is cut too small or whatever the case. The punch of citrus and spiciness complimented the ceviche SO well. This is perfect to share with 1-2 others. Grilled octopus and roasted potatos- there aren't many places that serve grilled octopus in Charlotte but of the places that do, this place does it the best- hands down. The octopus has a perfect char and it's not chewy at all. It's warm and has a wonderfully soft, citrusy, and ever so slightly bouncy bite to it that you'd want from octopus. And as for the potatoes, while roasted potatoes are nothing unique, somehow these found a way to make their mark. These were a great accompaniment to the octopus in that it contrasted well by being a heavier and creamy counterpart. Potatos are flavorful and perfectly cooked. Maki roll- we ordered one roll to share and while it tasted good, it didn't feel elevated or special in any way. You can get something very similar at places like Pisces (sushi restaurant in charlotte) I would skip this going forward in preference for the other dishes I talk about above.

Where do I start with this place? The ambiance, the service, the food 5 stars all around. The lighting was dark and moody and the little table lamps were perfect for highlighting the food items as they were delivered. We ordered so much food and cocktails. We started with the tostones which was the perfect complement to the ceviche trio. The Trio was absolute perfection- the freshness and the flavors were exactly what I was looking for. All three were perfect. We also had the Mariscos Al fuego which was a taste of yummy buttery grilled seafood. Tasty but not meant as an entree. We also had the octopus which was tasty but a bit hard to chew. The Peruvian pineapple was the best possible cocktail to pair with all the dishes. I loved everything about this place.

One of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte! The food is absolutely amazing I have not gotten anything I don't like. The ceviche is fresh, portions are big and fully of flavor. The yuca balls are a must try. Recently went for a birthday and the service was wonderful, the manager even came over and laughed with us. Awesome vibes, they have a Dj on the weekends and an open kitchen. 10/10 recommend for date night or birthday.

Yunta has everything I look for in a place with a vibrant nightlife: good food, good drinks, good music, and excellent service! The restaurant was very well decorated as well. The Peruvian fusion menu was diverse enough to offer something everyone would like, including several gluten free options. Our bar tender was extremely attentive, he made sure we had fun and were well taken care of. You definitely need to book a table here in advance. We came on a Saturday night with no reservation and we were seated at the bar after roughly 30 minutes, the wait was longer for a full table. I will definitely be returning (with a reservation next time!)

I have been wanting to try Yunta forever since I first saw them pop up in social media. It definitely passes the vibe check from the moment you step inside. There was a live DJ by the large bar area that faced the open kitchen, beautiful lighting, and cozy seating throughout. Our main server was super sweet and patient as we took our time figuring out the eclectic menu. Everything we ended up ordering was a win. The drinks were beautiful and delicious, the food was creative, and everything was plated skillfully. I'm still thinking about the chicharron! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation asap, it's an experience!

Words aren't enough. My new favorite in Charlotte (to no one's surprise since their sister La Lima is my reigning champion). Every dish was flavorful, perfectly cooked and served at the perfect temperature. The staff were so kind and helpful with questions about the menu. Yunta is an upscale Peruvian restaurant that is always crowded and difficult to get a table unless you have a reservation, which we did. There is a lovely (small) enclosed patio, bar seating and booths. The restaurant is small and crowded and gets very noisy in the evening. This was the first time a restaurant has asked us to leave our table after the 1.5 hour time slot (listed on their website). Our service was very slow compared to other tables causing us to go over the 1.5 hour time and when asked to move we were quite surprised since it was due to slow service. We quickly finished our meal and left (dissatisfied). Prices were very high for the amount of food received but I guess you're paying for the ambiance. When you're seated you're offered a bowl of spicy roasted corn to snack on. We also started with the grilled/ charred edamame which was oily and spicy, the panza nigiri was fresh but only 4 pcs, the verde tiradito was flavorful but small for a main entree, the lomo saltado was overpriced with few potatoes and tough beef, both drinks - Peruvian Pineapple and Mancora Margarita were well made and refreshing. Our favorite was the chocolate lucuma dessert - beautifully made and delicious.

One of the best restaurants I've been to!! Yunta is Peruvian/japanese fusion, which I was so excited since this was two cuisines I loved and the fusion makes me excited to see what's in store. A fantastic start with the beef nigiri. I know beef and nigiri sounds ironic, but this was SO GOOD!! They torched the beef pieces in front of you and the sauce and seasoning on top was incredible. The tuna ceviche 100/10. Wow. SO FRESH and flavorful with a little bit of lime. They ask for spice level and they recommended mild and have the chili sauce on the side. Thank goodness we did that, the chili sauce on the side was no joke!! If you like raw fish, get the ponjo tradito. It's thinly sliced tuna in thi citrus ginger sauce that I honestly can drink haha. Soooo fresh. All the sauces and details of each plate was perfection. I also got the passion fruit cocktail and it was delicious and not too sweet. Service was incredible, the waitress we had gave us really good recommendations and she was honest if something wasn't the best.

We loved Yunta. We stopped by on a Friday night. It was hard to get reservations before 8:30 so we wound up arriving there late evening. We found parking fairly easily in the neighborhood and walked in. Restaurant had low lighting with a DJ playing mixed house music. It was loud and space was limited even to stand and wait for our table. We ordered a few small plates --our favorite were the yucca balls and shrimp croquettes. We also ordered the pork belly and Udon Noodles as the entree. The drinks were also really good. Service was prompt and helpful. Our waitress knew the menu and guided us as best she could. Once we paid we were invited to sit at the bar by the bar manager since they likely needed our table for another party.

This place is so good. I came here again with my hubby after I dropped in one afternoon in the summer with friends. Let me tell you. You don't want to pass this place up. He had beef nigiri which was delicious (great if you don't want raw fish), and Ponja Tiradito which he loved. I had Yunta Ceviche after having tasted a bite the first time I came and knew I had to have my own. It did not disappoint. It's cold, slightly sweet from the Peruvian corn and sweet potatoes, but bright with citrus flavors. It's super fresh, but be advised, it is a filling dish because of all the amazing seafood proteins. We also shared the Chicharron and that was just ok. Something didn't quite come together for me and the pork part was dry and needed more flavor. But I almost hate to say that because everything else I've had here is amazing. The staff is nice and the manager on both occasions was very involved- greeted us, asked how the food was, helped bring drinks over when need be. Basically acted like a true manager. Loved that. Yunta is a great place to experience. Sexy vibes and awesome food! And don't forget your reservation. Even week days at lunch can be busy.

If you're heading to Yunta Nikkei, make a reservation. We walked in around 5 PM on a Friday and got incredibly lucky to be seated quickly before it got packed. The ambiance here is top-tier--great cool house music with a DJ giving off Rüfüs Du Sol vibes. Service was 10/10; my water was never empty. For the food, we started with the Poseidon Causita. The fish on top was incredibly fresh and went perfectly with the potato base. The absolute standout was the Lomo Saltado--probably one of the best I've ever had, especially with the green dipping sauce. The Arroz con Mariscos was also awesome and a massive, filling portion. My only critique of the night was the Tuna Sushi; it just didn't taste fresh, and something was off about the rice. We finished with the Guanábana dessert, which was a really interesting mix of soursop and caramel. It's definitely worth a try, but I already have my eye on their crème brûlée for next time.

Yunta Nikkei is an inviting and aesthetically pleasing restaurant for drinks, catching up with a friend, or date night. Catching up is exactly what my friend and I did! Enrique provided really great service at our table and giving recommendations. We love that! 10/10 Drink(s): Sprite (which was crispy and fresh) and S. Pellegrino sparkling water. Starter(s): Leche de Tigre ceviche (10/10) Entree(s): Arroz Chaufa (10/10) and Fino Maki (10/10) We will be back for sure!

If you plan on coming here.. even on a weekday for an early bird special.. MAKE A RESERVATION! My friends and I learned the hard way that you can't get a table for 4 around 6pm on a weekday.. but we did score a spot at one of the 2 outdoor tables.. which are first come/first served. I ordered the pisco and shiso drink to start. It was wonderfully spicy yet fruity. The alcohol wasn't overwhelming and it tasted more like a fruity spicy ginger beer. I had a bite of the panza which is like a salmon belly nigiri with lemon zest and crunchy quinoa. Yum! You have to ask for soy sauce.. but my friends enjoyed it without just the same. It was very fresh. For dinner I had the arroz con mariscos. It was a huge portion! I had leftovers. Served in a hot skillet and loaded with seafood. There was a decent variety of seafood mixed into the rice. Reason for 4 stars is that our waiter spilled an entire beer on our table.. and on one of my friends. We know this happens unfortunately and my friend was not upset (accidents happen) but nothing was offered outside of an apology (at least comp the drink you spilled on us)! It's street parking. The parking lot that is mentioned in other reviews is so tiny I wouldn't even bother checking it out. read more

Lolly provided great service and the busboy was really friendly and refilled the waters, cleared stuff as needed. People are just so nice here. It's got a nice little vibe too. The grilled octopus was really good and so was the seafood rice. Defintely go for those! Tried all the nigiri's and they were hit or miss. read more

My girlfriend and I just got back from Peru a couple of months ago. This food hit the spot. It brought me back to Cusco. The decor and lights are dimmed for a good environment. Visiting Charlotte and lucked into hearing about Yunta. We heard about it and went right over without a reservation and was expecting a long wait, but we were able to squeeze into the couches out front. Enjoyed everything we ordered and wanted to try more. The torched scallop nigiri just melted into the mouth. My favorite. But the tradito was also excellent. Maybe it was a tie! read more

The worst part of our experience at Yunta is, we live in St Louis. Nothing compares to Yunta over here. Our service was amazing, we ordered several courses and everything was timed really well considering they were also very busy. The decor was very dark and romantic. If we lived here, this would be a monthly regular for us for sure. Every plate had so much flavor, I ordered ceviche for myself and it was the best ceviche I have had in a long time. You will get dripped on its super loud to have conversations. Food was Fantastic very quickly served with fresh and tasty ingredients! We've been trying to get in for a long time now finally just made an early dinner reservation for 4pm. I forgot the names of everything but I recommend everything in my pictures!!! Salmon Belly!!! Crab Sushi!!!! Octopus!!!!! Service was not the best as we were very excited to finally be eating there and our server was very dry and seemed to be bothered by her job. Yunta is nothing short of excellent. The second you walk in you are greeted by blaring music (almost too loud to hear the people you are with) yet it is fun and fits the earthy but modern interior inside. The crowds of people near the bar, the loud atmosphere, and the dark lighting creates a mood that Yunta is more than just an average evening dine in. There are groups of mainly millennials dressed in a business casual vibe inside. The menu is not large yet offers a good differing set of items, all Peruvian-Japanese fusion, with a helpful dictionary at the bottom to understand the ingredients put into every dish. As for the food itself; delicious and in good size portions. The yucca balls are creamy, cheesy, and salty-- with a bit of a fried corn taste to it. Something you might get sick of if you're not sharing it with others. The ceviche is done well. The meat in all of my dishes was all seasoned well and tender. Food is plated beautifully and I did not wait long to receive any of my orders. The service is probably the only downside I experienced but even then I think it depends. Personally, the server who took my order was not very talkative or friendly and seemed like she wanted to get things over with when taking my order. The other servers who attended to me whether handing me food or providing my check were kind and polite. I was lucky to get a reservation same-day but understand this place can get so busy some months you'll have to reserve weeks beforehand. read more

This place is truly everything and more! They already were off to a great start when I made a bday reservation and they were super accommodating. I tried to book for resy for a table of 3 but there were no times at all until later in the night. So when I called, she was able to squeeze us in for a birthday it meant a lot. Our server was named Juan Carlos and he was more than accommodating answering all our questions and giving us the best recommendations of plates to try. I loved how this place really brought back memories of being in Peru. The food options are truly authentic. We chose to split the Uchu make sushi roll and it was amazing and flavorful. For dinner, I chose the arroz de mariscos. It had to be some of the best that I've ever had. Finally after dinner was over, they came out with a dessert selection for the bday boy to choose and just seeing the look of joy from the whole experience was enough. So thanks for making this moment special! read more

I wanted to try this place out because it sounded like an interesting fusion. I believe it's Peruvian and Japanese. I had the octopus and my sis had the arroz chaufa (which was a Peruvian friend rice dish with chicken). Both dishes were delicious, and my sister even took some home for lunch. I ate all mine though. I also appreciated that they pre-sliced the octopus into bite sized pieces. The chimichuri on the octopus was really good. We also had their spin a smoked old fashion, amazing flavor and dramatic presentation really made us feel fancy. There were alot of tasty looking things on the menu and we got to see some of what they looked like because the table next to had to have ordered like 8 things! This is definitely getting bookmarked for a return visit the next time I'm in charlotte. read more

Ahhhh vibes... Yunta is everything you'd expect and more. All the reels you may have seen on instagram, or Yelp's best restaurants of 2023 list. Yunta comes in at number 2 on that list (how dare you Poppyseed). With all that hype comes a lot of substance. I made reservations for Yunta on a Sunday night at around 7pm, and the place was buzzing. I loved the atmosphere and decor, the tables are well spaced with varied lighting expressions. There is a very cool and tasteful "red room" towards the side of the restaurant. I had a half booth/table combo facing the bar. The energy in the building is electric, everyone is moving around and laughing having a great time. The servers are well dressed and incredibly professional. I ordered the Arroz con Mariscos with Uchu Maki as a starter. The food comes out pipping how, partly because the orders come out whenever it's ready. There isn't a waiting time for the whole table to receive it all at once. It's different, but I must say I do like the method. The rice was excellent, flavorful and cooked just right. There may have been a bit too much salt/seasoning applied to the rice. But I'll have to try it again to see if it's just this batch, or thats just how it's made. My dish comes loaded with a bevy of seafood delights cooked to perfection. We're talking shrimp, squid (the star of the show), calamari, octopus, scallops! The service shines just as bright as my birthday dessert with the sparkler on top. Again, the service was exceptional! Our drinks were often topped off, and we were checked on, not just often but at the right times. Pro tip: If you order the Arroz con Mariscos, make sure you say sauce on the side, or stop the server before he pours it all over the rice. We recently dined here yesterday and overall had a great experience, thanks largely to the outstanding manager. When we first arrived, the front desk interaction was unfortunately quite unprofessional. We weren't greeted warmly, there was confusion about our reservation time, and the attitude didn't make the best first impression. It was disappointing, especially because first impressions matter and it was my son's birthday. That said, the manager completely saved the day. As soon as He became aware of the situation, He stepped in with professionalism, calmness, and genuine care. He apologized sincerely, handled the issue efficiently, and made us feel truly welcome. His leadership and customer service skills were impressive and turned the entire experience around. Once seated, everything else was excellent. The food was delicious, service and waitress at the table was attentive, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Because of how well the manager handled the situation, we left feeling valued as customers. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but it's how they're handled that counts. The manager showed exactly how it should be done, and for that reason, we would definitely return and recommend this restaurant. My my. Revere-able. Total excellence. We were a 7:30pm walk-in, sat at the only table available on their Tuesday dinner service. Slower service than we are used to (we manage and serve at a Japanese restaurant uptown), but the music (of all things!) was so good that we never minded. This is a great place to get cocktails. F*** the beer, seriously. Have them make you a cocktail. Look at that menu, man. And if you don't normally drink... now is the time. All of the flavors in the food work- ALL of them. Every little thing is curated to make this experience the best you can find in Charlotte at this price point. I ordered sparkling water and the busser couldn't WAIT to refill it if my glass got even remotely past half full. Mind you, we were right by the bathrooms in what seemed to be an unfavorable spot... this was not the case. Some may see this as a boon; with the constant refills, it was a huge plus. If you're coming to Charlotte and want to take a guest somewhere that really captures the vibe of the city, this is the spot. Incredible food and a great atmosphere. When we sat outside, there was a slight lingering smell of BO--hard to tell if it was from the leather seats or something else. Our server, Casey, was very efficient and respectful, but he focused more on upselling than showing off his personality, which was a bit of a letdown. Had the best dinner here celebrating our anniversary on a Saturday night. Highly recommend reservations in advance as it fills up, but you will not be disappointed! I love the ambience here, I wish the outside was a little bit bigger as we can't come here as much cause a lot of times we're walking with the dogs and would love to spend more time outside. Had an opportunity to sit at the bar and I didn't catch The Bartender's name, but he was extremely knowledgeable about wine and food and let us in the right direction. Everything was good with the food. I love the ceviche. It taste so fresh. The only thing I didn't like was the noodles. It taste more like spaghetti noodles and not Asian noodle. But a good portion, I was just full from the ceviche until I got the noodles. The drink is always good. Everything on the menu is good, just more on the pricey side. The service is great. Staff is ready and attentive. The ambiance is nice although they do have a live dj so after a certain time, it gets pretty loud and hard to hear. The uchu maki tasted really good, they gave a really good portion of crab but the maki wasn't put together well and was falling apart. The croquette was delicious and plated beautifully. Super fun restaurant! I went with a coworker during a work trip to Charlotte. We did not have a reservation but luckily were able to be seated late on a Weds night. We shared a few sushi dishes, all very tasty! The portions I believe are a bit small for the Mariscos al Fuego, but we thought everything was delicious including the drinks! read more

This place is awesome! From start to finish, we enjoyed every minute! We went in around 5:30 on a Tuesday without a reservation and we're lucky enough to be seated immediately! Within an hour they were packed! The hosts were friendly and welcoming and were everything you expect in your first interaction. Our server went down the entire menu and concept and was extremely knowledgeable in both food items and drink items. All the cocktails we ordered were perfectly balanced and we ordered every recommendation our server made. As first time diners at Yunta, we left both wanting to go back and making it a frequently visited place! Between the two of us, 5 dishes and 4 drinks, the price was very reasonable too. We applaud the uniqueness of this place and the atmosphere was cool and vibey. The waiter took three drink orders and forgot our other guest. Shrimp croquettes were amazing and presented well. Tostones had a good fry but were tasteless (as were the side of potatoes we were convinced to order with our main meal). The rest of the food: nigiri gratin bland; torched tenderloin tasty; parrillero tasted exactly like butane gas from the torch and finally the ponja was well made and on par with the price points. For some reason as soon as we put our forks down the servers (multiple and it's a tiny table) were reaching all over us picking up dishes and wiping it down! It was very disturbing. I get clearing main plates but leaning over a guest to pick up the spare utensils that were not used under my elbow was something unseen by me before. The lime flavor is amazing in this dish. The rice and beans are perfect accompaniments to both dishes. Their portions are generous, and we usually take some of our meals home. We've always had great service at Calle Sol. We never have to wait long for our food, either. I like how the servers work to help each other out when busy! A note about parking--there are only a few spots directly in front of the restaurant, so you'll be lucky to get one of them. There's a public parking lot just down the street on Thomas (across from Dish), and street parking throughout Plaza Midwood. Thankfully the chicken was flavorful and juicy, the white rice was white rice and the plantains were cooked beautifully. Also the cashier was great and provided excellent service. All in all, I would visit again but no rush to go back again. Viva Chicken still takes the lead for now for me. My friend said the Wagyu Burger tasted good and I tried the Shakshuka (for the first time in my life) which tasted very tomato-y but still yummy with the bread! My wife and I have been there three times now, and the reason we keep returning is because of him. JJ is the epitome of what a great server should be. He is attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. He always goes above and beyond to make sure that we have a wonderful dining experience. On our first visit, JJ took the time to explain the menu and recommend dishes that he thought we would enjoy. He also made sure that our drinks were always topped off and that we were well-cared for. On our second visit, JJ remembered our names and our favorite dishes. A most bizarre experience for my daughter and I, celebrating a birthday. The food was fresh and phenomenal; the servers were knowledgeable and experienced. It wasn't until later we were made uncomfortable when the bus employee began removing the items from the table, and our main server didn't return with a dessert menu despite the fact when we arrived we were asked if there was a celebration, and they wrote "birthday " on the slip I thought they might have given to the server. Added to that, a lady who appeared to be a flow manager appeared at our table a gave us a "gentle" reminder that other diners were waiting! All this to say, there were 2 other tables in our close vicinity, seated when we arrived, who were not visited with a "gentle reminder". Jennifer C. read more

Our visit to this restaurant in Charlotte was the culinary highlight of our trip. The staff, with their detailed menu explanations and excellent recommendations, enhanced our dining experience. Despite the lively and busy atmosphere, we secured a table for four without a reservation, albeit at a later dinner hour. The sharing-style dining added a super fun element to our evening. The Classico ceviche was a standout--absolutely delicious and to die for. The edamame and simple yet delicious corn further elevated the meal. Despite the busyness, the restaurant proved worth the price and emerged as a delightful option for a lovely date night. While I don't remember the name of the sushi roll or other dish pictured, I do recall that I couldn't get enough! read more

Yunta is hands down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! The food was absolutely incredible--every dish was bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. We tried maybe 9-10 menu items with the favorite being the Yunta Ceviche! The service was top-notch, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Came into YUNTA earlier this week with my wife for dinner and sat at the bar as the restaurant was busy and we had not made a reservation. From the food, to the drinks, to the service.. everything was amazing. Val took care of us and had us try some awesome drinks. We tried the Smokey melon, classic pisco sour, and pisco shiso (my favorite). Had a great time. Food came out quite fast which we were pleasantly surprised about. Started off with the chicharrón (to die for), acevichado maki, hotate nigiri, and the arroz con mariscos... finished off with the Lucuma bomba which was perfect!!!! My Peruvian friend told me about this place and I'm glad I took his advice. We ordered the classic ceviche and the tigre de leche - Best decision we made. It was very delicious and fresh, it was so good that we actually ordered another round of the classic ceviche. Service was great too and we didn't have to wait much to get a table.
