Yunta is hands down one of the best fusion restaurants I've experienced to date. Their Peruvian-Japanese (Nikkei) concept is executed flawlessly, and it shows in every single detail. From the drinks alone, you can tell they take their craft seriously. The cocktails are incredible, but what really stood out to me were the mocktails. Thoughtful, well-balanced, and not an afterthought like they often are which I appreciated very very much. I've now tried just about everything on the menu, and every dish has been consistently amazing. That kind of consistency is rare and says a lot about the kitchen. This has become my go-to spot for special occasions - anniversaries, birthdays, or whenever I have friends visiting Charlotte. Without fail, everyone leaves saying it was the most memorable dining experience they've had here. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, perfect for both celebrations and a really good night out. And the service!!! Truly exceptional. The team takes their time to walk you through the menu, explain dishes, and make sure you feel taken care of. Easily a 5/5. A restaurant and staff worth celebrating!
Ambience- great ambience. It's a low light environment with a live DJ that plays instrumental music. The tables are situated snuggly together and each table has a little yellow light lamp and it really feels like a modern, New York City style, eatery. It's quite a big establishment but is packed to the brim with people so make a reservation! I sat on the patio outside and it was a great space for fresh air while still feeling cozy and intimate. Service- incredible service. Our waiter was attentive and informative. No notes. Food- the complimentary appetizer is this fried/puffed corn that they refill on your table if needed. This was a perfect light snack to have when you're just talking with friends and waiting for your food. If you've ever had the gas station snack called a Corn Nut, it's very similar to that but seasoned with just salt and it's a little more airy As for the food, it would take too long to genuinely review everything but these are the heavy hitters . The Peruvian seafood risotto was the best version of itself I've ever had. It's creamy, flavorful, and the seafood is perfectly cooked and plentiful. I don't understand how they pack so much flavor and so much food into this dish. The portion is very generous. And it made for perfect leftovers the next day. It felt so luxurious and the presentation really matched the energy of the restaurant. The salmon nigiri and the scallop nigiri with truffle butter was absolutely phenomenal. These are the only nigiri I've tried here but listen to me when it say the flavor of these two was unlike anything I've tried. The addition of yuzu in the salmon perfectly cuts through the fattiness of the salmon. And the rice is perfectly cooked and a little warm. The scallop with truffle butter is torched at your table and the subtle earthy flavor of the truffle butter (if you like truffle) is incredible and creates for the most luscious buttery and comforting bite. Both were incredibly tender pieces of nigiri and given that there's only 4 pieces per serving, you're forced to really savor and appreciate each bite. This is definitely something I will order again. Ceviche- the best ceviche I've had at least in the Carolina's. The fish is cut into generously sized cubes, which make for a hearty and flavor packed bite each time which I really loved. I feel like a lot of places I've been to serve too small of a portion of the fish is cut too small or whatever the case. The punch of citrus and spiciness complimented the ceviche SO well. This is perfect to share with 1-2 others. Grilled octopus and roasted potatos- there aren't many places that serve grilled octopus in Charlotte but of the places that do, this place does it the best- hands down. The octopus has a perfect char and it's not chewy at all. It's warm and has a wonderfully soft, citrusy, and ever so slightly bouncy bite to it that you'd want from octopus. And as for the potatoes, while roasted potatoes are nothing unique, somehow these found a way to make their mark. These were a great accompaniment to the octopus in that it contrasted well by being a heavier and creamy counterpart. Potatos are flavorful and perfectly cooked. Maki roll- we ordered one roll to share and while it tasted good, it didn't feel elevated or special in any way. You can get something very similar at places like Pisces (sushi restaurant in charlotte) I would skip this going forward in preference for the other dishes I talk about above.
Where do I start with this place? The ambiance, the service, the food 5 stars all around. The lighting was dark and moody and the little table lamps were perfect for highlighting the food items as they were delivered. We ordered so much food and cocktails. We started with the tostones which was the perfect complement to the ceviche trio. The Trio was absolute perfection- the freshness and the flavors were exactly what I was looking for. All three were perfect. We also had the Mariscos Al fuego which was a taste of yummy buttery grilled seafood. Tasty but not meant as an entree. We also had the octopus which was tasty but a bit hard to chew. The Peruvian pineapple was the best possible cocktail to pair with all the dishes. I loved everything about this place.
One of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte! The food is absolutely amazing I have not gotten anything I don't like. The ceviche is fresh, portions are big and fully of flavor. The yuca balls are a must try. Recently went for a birthday and the service was wonderful, the manager even came over and laughed with us. Awesome vibes, they have a Dj on the weekends and an open kitchen. 10/10 recommend for date night or birthday.
Yunta has everything I look for in a place with a vibrant nightlife: good food, good drinks, good music, and excellent service! The restaurant was very well decorated as well. The Peruvian fusion menu was diverse enough to offer something everyone would like, including several gluten free options. Our bar tender was extremely attentive, he made sure we had fun and were well taken care of. You definitely need to book a table here in advance. We came on a Saturday night with no reservation and we were seated at the bar after roughly 30 minutes, the wait was longer for a full table. I will definitely be returning (with a reservation next time!)
I have been wanting to try Yunta forever since I first saw them pop up in social media. It definitely passes the vibe check from the moment you step inside. There was a live DJ by the large bar area that faced the open kitchen, beautiful lighting, and cozy seating throughout. Our main server was super sweet and patient as we took our time figuring out the eclectic menu. Everything we ended up ordering was a win. The drinks were beautiful and delicious, the food was creative, and everything was plated skillfully. I'm still thinking about the chicharron! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation asap, it's an experience!
Words aren't enough. My new favorite in Charlotte (to no one's surprise since their sister La Lima is my reigning champion). Every dish was flavorful, perfectly cooked and served at the perfect temperature. The staff were so kind and helpful with questions about the menu. The setting is absolutely gorgeous in the day or night time - can't wait to go back. Get the whole menu!!!! You can't go wrong.
Yunta is an upscale Peruvian restaurant that is always crowded and difficult to get a table unless you have a reservation, which we did. There is a lovely (small) enclosed patio, bar seating and booths. The restaurant is small and crowded and gets very noisy in the evening. This was the first time a restaurant has asked us to leave our table after the 1.5 hour time slot (listed on their website). Our service was very slow compared to other tables causing us to go over the 1.5 hour time and when asked to move we were quite surprised since it was due to slow service. We quickly finished our meal and left (dissatisfied). Prices were very high for the amount of food received but I guess you're paying for the ambiance. When you're seated you're offered a bowl of spicy roasted corn to snack on. We also started with the grilled/ charred edamame which was oily and spicy, the panza nigiri was fresh but only 4 pcs, the verde tiradito was flavorful but small for a main entree, the lomo saltado was overpriced with few potatoes and tough beef, both drinks - Peruvian Pineapple and Mancora Margarita were well made and refreshing. Our favorite was the chocolate lucuma dessert - beautifully made and delicious.
One of the best restaurants I've been to!! Yunta is Peruvian/japanese fusion, which I was so excited since this was two cuisines I loved and the fusion makes me excited to see what's in store. A fantastic start with the beef nigiri. I know beef and nigiri sounds ironic, but this was SO GOOD!! They torched the beef pieces in front of you and the sauce and seasoning on top was incredible. The tuna ceviche 100/10. Wow. SO FRESH and flavorful with a little bit of lime. They ask for spice level and they recommended mild and have the chili sauce on the side. Thank goodness we did that, the chili sauce on the side was no joke!! If you like raw fish, get the ponjo tradito. It's thinly sliced tuna in thi citrus ginger sauce that I honestly can drink haha. Soooo fresh. All the sauces and details of each plate was perfection. I also got the passion fruit cocktail and it was delicious and not too sweet. Service was incredible, the waitress we had gave us really good recommendations and she was honest if something wasn't the best.
We loved Yunta. We stopped by on a Friday night. It was hard to get reservations before 8:30 so we wound up arriving there late evening. We found parking fairly easily in the neighborhood and walked in. Restaurant had low lighting with a DJ playing mixed house music. It was loud and space was limited even to stand and wait for our table. We ordered a few small plates --our favorite were the yucca balls and shrimp croquettes. We also ordered the pork belly and Udon Noodles as the entree. The drinks were also really good. Service was prompt and helpful. Our waitress knew the menu and guided us as best she could. Once we paid we were invited to sit at the bar by the bar manager since they likely needed our table for another party.
This place is so good. I came here again with my hubby after I dropped in one afternoon in the summer with friends. Let me tell you. You don't want to pass this place up. He had beef nigiri which was delicious (great if you don't want raw fish), and Ponja Tiradito which he loved. I had Yunta Ceviche after having tasted a bite the first time I came and knew I had to have my own. It did not disappoint. It's cold, slightly sweet from the Peruvian corn and sweet potatoes, but bright with citrus flavors. It's super fresh, but be advised, it is a filling dish because of all the amazing seafood proteins. We also shared the Chicharron and that was just ok. Something didn't quite come together for me and the pork part was dry and needed more flavor. But I almost hate to say that because everything else I've had here is amazing. The staff is nice and the manager on both occasions was very involved- greeted us, asked how the food was, helped bring drinks over when need be. Basically acted like a true manager. Loved that. Yunta is a great place to experience. Sexy vibes and awesome food! And don't forget your reservation. Even week days at lunch can be busy.
If you're heading to Yunta Nikkei, make a reservation. We walked in around 5 PM on a Friday and got incredibly lucky to be seated quickly before it got packed. The ambiance here is top-tier--great cool house music with a DJ giving off Rüfüs Du Sol vibes. Service was 10/10; my water was never empty. For the food, we started with the Poseidon Causita. The fish on top was incredibly fresh and went perfectly with the potato base. The absolute standout was the Lomo Saltado--probably one of the best I've ever had, especially with the green dipping sauce. The Arroz con Mariscos was also awesome and a massive, filling portion. My only critique of the night was the Tuna Sushi; it just didn't taste fresh, and something was off about the rice. We finished with the Guanábana dessert, which was a really interesting mix of soursop and caramel. It's definitely worth a try, but I already have my eye on their crème brûlée for next time.
Yunta Nikkei is an inviting and aesthetically pleasing restaurant for drinks, catching up with a friend, or date night. Catching up is exactly what my friend and I did! This place was pretty incredible - best meal I've had in a long time. The veggie maki roll my friend wanted surprisingly was flavorful and really delicious. We also shared a vegetable Peruvian fried rice and added chicken to it - also incredible flavors. Our server was nice and a bit quirky, but when I wanted to add non-fried calamari to the fried rice, it came out breaded and fried (which I cannot have) and when I told her that, her tone changed immediately. And she was weird and unfriendly for the second part of the meal. .......anyway..... The cocktails are immaculate. I didn't know what Pisco was until this visit, and the Pisco sour was divine. I thoroughly enjoy a restaurant with new and inventive flavors. We will surely be back!! (But will ask more clarifying questions in the future to not upset the server......) read more

What a great spot! Came for a birthday lunch with a large party and had a lovely time. Drinks were amazing, service was great, cutest decorations, good vibes, spectacular food, can't wait to come back! Parking was easy. I've never liked ceviche before but I LOVED it here. Food: by now I have tried everything on their menu, and I can honestly say I love it all. I have been going since they open and it never disappoints. Service has always been excellent. Drinks are great and it's always a fun ambiance - not your place for a quiet weekend dinner. Other favs not pictured: pulpo anticuchero, new York strip (can serve 2-3 ppl), chicken yakitori, arroz chaufa, tallarín saltado, yuca balls, chicharrón. I have been to this place multiple times and I cannot say enough great things! The service is phenomenal and the servers are al very knowledgeable about the menu. They also have a nice mocktail section. My favorites are hotate (so buttery) and croquettes (heaven in your mouth). I have struggled to venture out and try other items because I keep going back to my usual items. I'm personally not the biggest fan of tiradito because it feels like the ingredients are swimming in the sauce. But that's just a me thing. All the maki and nigiri are solid. Ambiance is intimate. "Asian fusion" has passed beyond the experimental to the mainstream and the South-and-Central American influence is the newest and strongest of the meldings. At Yunta Nikkei that influence is Peruvian and more specifically Spanish moshed with Japanese. Their menu offers something for most palates and as a new experience for me, works well. Selections are seafood-heavy with many raw options including some excellent ceviches. I'll get nervous about sushi in a non-sushi kitchen for ingredients, skill and presentation. I should not have worried. For traditionalists, Peruvian meats are present with steak, chicken and potatoes featured as entrees and sides. The location is in a narrow space in a former industrial building fronting South Boulevard and shares frontage with a wine bar and Poppy's bagels (go there too). The large bar dominates and most tables are 2-tops. Our visit was a dice-roll Saturday evening visit at 6:30. The hostess was great - worked with us to get a 4-top by the door if we could turn the table under an hour. We agreed and it was on. We made quick drink and meal choices; the staff did the rest. I look for teamwork and watch the floor crew carefully. While our server Daniel handled the orders, every server visited us during the meal, water refills, order and drink deliveries and busing were seamless and shared. We were solidly impressed. We started with edamame, served grilled and salted in a mini skillet - have not tried it this way but it had a great smoky flavor and well salted. Yunta ceviche was next in a generous portioned bowl with corn, cubed sweet potato, squid, cooked shrimp and hamachi and yellowfin, in a super-tart limey broth that had to be sipped with a spoon. (Hint - choose this and get three times the fish as the sushi). Parrillero Maki brought 7-8 tempura shrimp, tuna and avacado rolls topped with tableside-seared chimichurri. This was not as strongly flavored as we would have liked but it was quality fish and prepared as well as most sushi restaurants. We moved on to two rice & protein bowls; both were piping hot and large portions. Arroz Chaufa combined chicken and pork but the rice is the star here, topped with toasted crispy chip twists. Arroz con Mariscos was the best non-paella paella l have ever eaten, with octopus, squid, shrimp and scallops served at 350 degrees. I could not shovel this in my mouth fast enough. The concerned table next to us watched the steam from the miso rice with peas coming out of my nose and ears and asked for their check. As reservations starting coming in we moved outside to the front patio to finish drinks and were offered a fine looking dessert plate that we passed on (this time). Kudos to the management for working us in, and to the staff who gave us a great meal and experience in just an hour. Do make a reservation or go light and hit the bar, but expect tight seating and a crowded space with a dub house music vibe (just right and not too loud). Prices are excellent for our meal; I've spent similar money recently at a steak-centric joint and an Italian place nearby and this was by far the best meal. After kicking myself for driving by here daily and never bothering to research, this will be a solid part of our rotation and is a rare five star review for me. read more

The food, the atmosphere, and the staff were amazing. Free parking in the back, our waters never went dry, and we were served fried corn snack to munch on before our meals. The service was great! I loved the ambience of the restaurant. I spent my 24th birthday on Saturday night around 9:00 and they made it such a great experience for me. I enjoyed the servers being very well-detail oriented when communicating with us about what we were just served. As far as the food goes, it was absolutely delicious! The starters were to die for and I especially enjoyed the sushi. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach, so I unfortunately was unable to finish my sushi, but I devoured it the next day! I definitely will be coming here again for a date night with my boyfriend! read more

Peruvian-Japanese perfection. Yunta Nikkei is such a cool dining experience in a great location in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte. I made a reservation for a Sunday dinner about a month in advance, and I'm so glad I did because the place was packed. Their cocktail menu is intriguing with a good number of pisco cocktails. We went with the Osaka and the Pisco & Shiso. The Osaka had an unexpected smoky flavor (reminiscent of mezcal), and the flavor & texture of the drink changes as the malbec-morada ice cube slowly melts. The Pisco & Shiso was a lighter, more refreshing cocktail with notes of ginger and a fresh blackberry as garnish. Each meal includes complimentary crunchy & salty corn, served slightly warm - yum! To start, we ordered the Yunta Ceviche, which is a must if you're a ceviche fan. Really great portion and mix of seafood (snapper, octopus, shrimp) as well as large corn kernels, sweet potato, and onions. This was more filling than I expected. As our main, we got the pulpo anticuchero. The octopus was grilled perfectly and tasted savory and almost meaty with chimichurri on top. The potatoes were also great - salty, hot, and crispy with delish yellow sauce. We were so tempted when our server brought around the 3 desserts for us to look at, but were ultimately too full to indulge. Next time, Yunta Nikkei! read more

For appetizers my party and I have tried the tuna ceviche with the three different flavors. It was amazing! For the Mai course I went for the Passion Limo Tradito. The service was nice. The server kept changing our plates every time before we eat something different. First off - YES! Yunta checks ALL the boxes!! The food is phenomenal! We had several of the ceviches and couldn't even decide which was the best because they were all so good. We washed the ceviche down with some classic and some specialty Piscos sours, which were also delicious. Topped the meal off with a few desserts - none of which were anything less than extraordinary. The service is exceptional. Every person we interacted with was courteous, attentive, and welcoming. We actually sat outside on the patio, which can sometimes make service a little more scarce. But at Yunta, I never felt forgotten or too far away. The staff made great suggestions and didn't make me feel like a pain in the butt for sitting on the patio. The ambiance is great...The prices are as expected for great food and great service... and I don't think they can control the weather, but they made everything else so perfect - they might have a hand in that too. I can't say enough good things about Yunta Nikkei. I look forward to my next visit! read more
It's a very nice spot very Vibey music plan. The food are good small shareable bites. Our waiter is very nice. They keep pouring us water. They're very attentive. My Niece food is taking longer than everything else so she's been waiting for her food for the longest. This is a nice spot. I will come here again. One of our most favorite Charlotte restaurants! The ambiance reminds me of a restaurant you would find in a huge metropolis! They have the vibes down! The food is also fantastic! You can see the chefs cooking right in front of you if you sit at the bar but the side seats are just as nice as well! They usually have a DJ playing which brings it all together! Highly recommend! My friend and I came around 4:00PM on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation, and this place was packed! You know that is a good sign for any dining spot that can fill the tables during off hours. Luckily, we were able to grab some bar seating. Ladies and gentlemen, Yunta Nikkei is one of the best fusion restaurants I have ever been to. Everything was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The grilled octopus is the BEST octopus I have ever had. I will be dreaming about this dish for the rest of my life. It has set a high bar for all other grilled octopus plates. Unfortunately, we did not get to try a lot as we had other reservations for a late dinner. But man, did I regret not choosing to dine in fully. The portions are generous, so they are great for sharing. Our drinks were also very yummy with unique ingredients. Please come and try Yunta Nikkei! You won't be disappointed. read more

My boyfriend took me on a date and I love everybit of It. Yunta has great atmosphere, good music and interesting menu. The combination of Peruvian - Japan cuisines. If you love ceviche, they have the ceviche trio which is amazing. Don't underestimate it, It's a lot of food. Also can't skip the grill octopus, It's yummy-ah. They also have nigiri with some twists, worth trying. Don't forget the cocktail too, literally good stuffs. We had great experience with the dining and would recommend Yunta. Their service and hospitality here is phenomenon. We were stuck in traffic for over 30min to my bday celebration and they figured out a solution for us despite dealing with a busy evening. Made a resy for Yunta on a Sunday night. The place was cozy and vibrant. Our waitress was super knowledgeable about the menu and offered a few recommendations. We ordered a bunch of small plates and entrées to share. From the shrimp croquettes, chicharron, uchu maki roll, pulpo anticuchero to the mariscos al fuego and beef anticucho- the presentation for every single dish was phenomenal. The chicharron had the perfect amount of crunch and was not dry or overly crispy. The chimchurri sauce that was drizzled over the pulpo anticuchero had a good kick and spice to it. The beef anticucho was flavorful and tender. The mariscos al fuego was super fresh and had a hint of lime. We ordered two rounds of drinks and were all exceptional! read more

Wow this place was fantastic. No clue why it has taken me so long to get here. The first clue was that making reservations the day of only left me with minimal options, so we went with 9pm (on a Thursday) so I knew this place would be busy! The vibe was awesome- it reminded me of a good NYC place with the music, the hustle and bustle, and honestly the food. Our waiter was excellent and attentive. He gave great recommendations for both food and cocktails. He made sure if we had any questions they were answered and he wanted to make sure we liked what he recommended :) I had two maki rolls (was too stuffed to finish them both), and my date had one of the fried rice dishes. read more

Yuna lived up to the hype for us! I went with a group of 4 people and we shared: - Gratin Nigiri - Parmesano Maki - Pulpo Anticuchero - Passion Limo Tiradito - Classico Ceviche - Yucca Balls - Parrillero Maki - Chicharron - Tostones I really enjoyed everything. The highlights for me were the Gratin Nagiri, Marmesano Maki, Passion Limo Tiradito, Yucca Balls, and Chicharron. Based on the number of highlights, I'm sure you can see that it's hard to go wrong here. I'd recommend going with a group and sharing so you can try more. We've discovered our new favorite restaurant. We started out with the chicarrón, a crispy appetizer that paired perfectly with the ají sauce. Then came out the Yunta ceviche, a generous portion of catch of the day, shrimp, squid, octopus, and sweet potatoes. It was fresh, with the sweet potatoes adding a unique flavor. Without a doubt, it ranks as one of the best ceviches I've had. For the main courses, the Tallarín saltado, a Peruvian stir-fry, offered a twist on the traditional stir-fry. I was hesitant to order the octopus, as it can easily turn rubbery when overcooked. That was not the case, it was tender and bursting with flavor. I think I found my new favorite restaurant! When I read it was Peruvian/Japanese fusion, I had to try it! Everything from the ambience, to service to presentation, was on point! Came to visit not to late from when they opened so it wasn't too busy. Light sample of appetizers and we were stuffed! We ordered the shrimp croquettes, tigers milk ceviche and tempura. All were very tasty and flavorful! My favorite was the tigers milk ceviche. I will definitely be back to taste more of the menu. The manager was so friendly, even checking in on all the tables. He even suggested coming in on the weekends and certain nights bc they have love music! read more

How loud is this restaurant? I like to take a date here and be able to talk to her.
The bar area can be a little loud but we sat at one of the tables and we were able to have a normal conversation. Make sure you make reservations!
