Located in Albertsons Plaza, near UCI Irvine. Love this place. The thing to know, is this is the spiciest chain for all Tteokbokki places. - Very mild - is like 7/10 spicy, think buldak carbonara - Mild is like 8/10, building to 9 spicy, running nose, almost tears or some may get tears, think buldak black - Original is 10/10 spicy, on fire, ears ringing, tears, head on fire, tongue and throat on fire, like Buldak 2X - Extra Spicy - I can't even imagine, someone take this torture and report back please, because I don't want to go to the hospital or be out of commission for 2 days I got the original Yup Dduk tteokbokki bowl. It is 4 portions, or 4 meals for me. It depends on how much you eat. This comes with mozarella cheese on top, fishcake, 2 sausages and plenty of ricecake and some kimchi. Love love love! They make it super fresh, so don't get this when you're in a rush, it may take 15-20 minutes. A plus they sell soju! See my togo order.
Came here for dinner last week. It's definitely a small restaurant but good food. Great flavor! We ordered the extra mild yup duk and rice balls. You roll the rice balls yourself which was fun. The extra mild yup duk still had a kick. Definitely would not have been able to handle anything spicier but has great flavor. Service was good and I enjoyed the food. Would definitely come back.
Amazing food!! Portions are big and tasted so good. Service was fast and nice. There was tables to sit at or can take your food out. When they say spicy they MEAN it. One of my fav spots to get tteokbokki. Be careful of the spice levels but if you're willing to endure the heat, you're in a for delicious Korean favorite! Decided to visit after craving something spicy. We ended up ordering a mild yup dduk which is their standard tteokbokki bowl with fish cakes, sausage cabbage, and topped with cheese. We also added some dumplings into the bowl. Warning that mild is SPICY. I'd compare it to the Korean fire buldak noodles so if you can't handle that, start off at extra mild or getting the rosé version. What ever you choose, the sauce is very flavorful with a good sweet and spicy taste! Feel free to add extra toppings for variety! Service was fast and if you need anything you can walk up and ask for them to help you. The shop is small inside but you can dine outside if you want. Great spot for my fav Korean street food!
I was looking for a place to warm up from the rain while killing time in Irvine and this was the place. It is a small place that delivers big flavors! There are signs everywhere that foreshadow big spice here and you should believe them. But you can personalize the spice level and there are many things to do to help with the spice. I went for the core set that comes with the Yup Dduk. I was going to order original but the waitress said even that is really spicy so I went with mild. It came with veggie fries (like a slightly more sturdy and seasoned tempura batter) and a bowl of rice to form into rice balls (I that they give you a plastic glove to keep your fingers clean). I love that the veggie fries were served right in the bowl so they got some of the amazing sauce too. The bowl is huge and could serve between 2-4 people since I went with the Yup Dduk (more rice cake than fish cake) option. The flavors were so delicious and the heat was enough to make my nose run and I could feel it lingering on my tongue but not aggressively. Here's what helped cool my tongue: cheese swirled on top, yellow sweet pickled radishes served on the side, rice and seaweed because I ate them separately, banana milk, and the cold water. Next time though I want to try to make rice balls and stick them in the sauce too. I will absolutely be back and want to try other things on the menu - and will bring a friend to help me finish the bowl. But I have loved these left overs and learned to steam while reheating in the microwave so the rice cakes stay soft and chewy (but yeah, nothing beats when they are first served). I was surprised how quickly I got full and the little fizzy yogurt drink that they give you helped create space in my stomach so I just felt full, not stuffed.
Food: Yup Dduk (Extra Mild) Core Set Price: $42 Overall: Came around 3pm and we were able to get seated immediately (restaurant has limited seating). Been here a few times and although I have good spice tolerance, the worker reminded us that extra mild is preferable and mild is pretty spicy. Extra mild was delicious, with minimal spice and it paired well with the DIY rice balls. We shared the meal amongst 4 people and it was perfect!
This was my first time trying rose yuk o and also my first time at the irvine location. Their rice cakes are as good as I remember from korea town location. I like that rose sauce is creamy and very very mild. It is good for those who cannot take spicy food. Both their rose sauce and regular sauces are very good. Yuk Duuk is definitely one of my favorite places for tteokbokki hands down. Their toppings are added bonus. The restaurant itself was pretty small with only 5tables but there are more outdoor community tables. Great for a casual hangout spot. It took about 15-20 mins to get food, so it may be a good idea to order ahead through their app for to go orders.
Loveee Yupdduk. I used to frequent the K-town LA location when I went to school there and loved eating there, so I'm glad that I'm able to drive to Irvine to get my fix. The restaurant is pretty small with 5-6 tables so expect a long wait during peak hours. Service is pretty friendly and the workers check in on you maybe once or twice. If you need to take your food to-go, they'll pack your food for you and bring it back to your table. I usually order the yup dduk with cellophane noodles at the mild spice level, which includes a generous amount of rice cake, fish cake, some sausages, and cabbage, while topped off with a thick swirl of cheese. The rice cakes are cooked to perfection and are nicely soft and chewy. The cellophane noodles have a nice bounce and soak up the sauce, so eating the noodles can get pretty spicy. My spice tolerance is decently high so mild is the perfect spice level for me. Don't get me wrong though--mild still gets my nose runny. The radish on the side does help with reducing the spice. The portion is huge and can serve 2-3 people, but I did notice that the portion size has gone down recently, which is a bummer. I still always leave stuffed nonetheless.
Yupdduk is a SoCal staple for tteokbokki, I love going to this spot to share the large combo sets with a group of friends. It is right by UCI, and has a couple tables inside available for dining in, but most people do takeout. I'd recommend splitting one of the combo sets with a group of 3-4, you get the main tteokbokki and some rice balls and tempura to complement the meal. I'd recommend getting extra mild if you're not a spice person as their mild is decently spicy already. The mozzarella cheese and rice balls do help a lot to offset the spiciness so I highly recommend adding those on. I love how the sauce isn't too sweet like some places and portion sizes were plentiful for my group.
We always order the Yup Dduk B set, which includes fried onions, pumpkin, potatoes, and rice balls. They provide a bowl of rice with seaweed and gloves, allowing us to shape the rice into balls ourselves. We also add extra cheese and ramen. The serving size is quite large, so unless you have a big appetite, expect to take leftovers home. We opt for the original spice level because we enjoy spicy food and can handle the heat, but I personally find the mild level to have a good balance of spice. The restaurant is relatively small, and the staff consists mostly of college students. In the past, service was inconsistent, and we often had to get their attention when we needed something. However, on our most recent visit, we noticed a significant improvement, as we were checked on multiple times. We prefer this location over others because it is convenient and the flavor is consistently good. I previously tried the Diamond Bar location, but the taste was bland and didn't compare. The LA location is great, but it's a long drive for me, so I always visit the Irvine location instead.
This restaurant is small and has few indoor seats, but it is clean and comfortable. Staff are friendly and accommodating. We ordered a beef bulgogi rice and the signature yup dduk. The beef bulgogi rice was delicious and filling. The rice was seasoned, which I enjoyed, though the meat leaned on the sweeter side. For the yup dduk, we ordered extra mild spiciness but it was still fairly spicy, though not unbearable for our tolerances. The sauce is more sweet and spicy if you enjoy that. I particularly liked the fish cakes in the yup dduk, but found the sausages to have a strong meat smell. Overall it was very flavorful food. I couldn't tell just based off the menu, but these dishes were definitely meant to be shared with multiple people. It's a lot of food, so if you split the meal with at least 2-3 people then the price turns out to be fairly reasonable. Definitely take heed of the spice warning though!

The heat is DELICIOUS. Their spice is no joke - MILD IS ACTUALLY SPICY. Mild is fun and tolerable; you can still enjoy the tasty flavors beyond the sting! Yup dduk includes rice cakes, fish cakes, sausages, and mozzarella cheese in a fiery red sauce. Portions are large. Flavors and textures are on point. I highly recommend adding cellophane noodles! They're clear, wide noodles that have a nice chewiness. Also, I like to pair the yup dduk with an order of tuna mayo rice for a nice balance between hot and cold! The tuna mayo rice absolutely relieves my mouth from the fire and tastes delightful. I've had the Jjajang (black bean sauce) version here before, and it was also yummy. However, the original yup dduk sauce is superior! The painful wait time is worth the painful bliss! Every time I visit, the restaurant is always packed with a 30+ minute wait time. Food also takes a long while to prepare. Sometimes, workers will even take our order before we're seated. Thus, I recommend figuring out what you want to order before you even get there. The restaurant is situated in a large plaza near UCI with lots of parking available. The store itself is small with indoor and outdoor seating. Yup Dduk has a casual ambiance, kind workers, good service, slow food preparation, but, most importantly, yummy memories! read more

I'm not sure what I was doing here lol! This place has been bookmarked for a while, so I wanted to check it out. Once I sat down, I was scared after looking at the menu. All the warnings about the spice level had me ready to run out the door (I always ask for non spicy for everything!). I really wanted to try something new, so we decided on getting the extra mild Yup O (had more fish cakes than rice cake) plus the fish cake soup. The reviews on Yelp warned me that extra mild was spicy so I knew what to expect. They don't make anything less than extra mild (I did ask). The dish was quite large, perfect for sharing. I enjoyed the cheese on top, and the rice cakes and fish cakes were tasty. As expected, it was too spicy lol even for my boyfriend, who can tolerate spice pretty well. I was still able to eat a few pieces of the rice cake/fish cakes and 1 small sausage. The fish cake soup was mostly soup and didn't have a lot of fish cake, but it was tasty because it was not spicy. After eating all the fish cake and vegetables in the soup, we dipped the rice cake/fish cake from the Yup O in the soup to make it less spicy. We ended up taking most of the Yup O home (hopefully it will taste even better once diluted and with rice!). Overall, it was a unique experience and pretty tasty. The food here is amazing! Large portions, larger than mine and my boyfriend's heads. The flavors are great, super spicy although we got extra-mild (thank you to the server who recommended it to us), and there was a great amount of toppings. The pork bulgogi was good as well, sweet, salty, and spicy. Then we got the mayo-spam (OMG? So good?!) which was also pretty large! On top of all this, the server was so sweet and attentive and never left us hanging. The inside is a nice interior, small, and cozy. 10/10 - b set yupp-o Yup dduk is a classic comfort food spot for when you need something spicy! Definitely beware that the spice levels here do not play (as someone who can usually handle spice, anything above mild here is pushing it). Also note that one portion is probably good for about 3-4 people, so bring your friends! Definitely prefer going to the one in Irvine over the one in Koreatown since there is usually less of a wait and service is much quicker. I've wanted to try this place for so long and it was so good! It's super spicy though - we got mild and it was still pretty spicy for us. We ordered the B set that came with spicy rice cakes, fish cakes, and fried veggies. The rice cakes were so perfectly chewy and the cheese complimented the spiciness so perfectly. We got the Yup Dduk signature very spicy rice cake with ramen noodles. We got EXTRA MILD SPICE, which was the least spicy option on their menu, and thought it was just right. BEWARE that anything higher is probably really spicy... We added ramen noodles as a topping and it was really good, would definitely recommend adding more toppings as only the rice cakes is a bit plain. The mini sausages that come with the dish are really good, however I wish they gave you more than 3 :( I thought I wouldn't like the mozzarella cheese on top but it was good. It's also funny because when my friend and I arrived we were going to order one dish each but after we finished ordering 1, the waiter started to leave. Seeing our confused faces, she told us that this dish is for 2-3 people, so MAKE SURE TO KEEP THIS IN MIND. There is A LOT of rice cakes in there. My fave tteokbokki spot ever. This place makes it spicy and savory. I like the Yup O since I love fishcakes. They offer 4 different levels of spice. Even their mild is pretty spicy for most. The portions are huge so you can definitely share a bowl. Each starting bowl is $25 and you can add additional toppings. Be sure to add ramen to your bowl. The noodles soak up the sauce really well. Rice balls are also a must here. I love dipping them into the sauce. The restaurant itself is really small with only 4 tables inside. But you can order to go and eat on the tables outside. read more

I'm Korean, and I love Yupdduk. After immigrating to the U.S., I was so excited to find one even if it meant driving an hour and a half to get there. The taste was just like what I remember from Korea, which made me really happy. My American husband doesn't like rice cakes, so we dined in for the Yupdduk Chicken and took the tteokbokki to go. However, at the restaurant, it was quite uncomfortable because loud Mexican music from the kitchen and the store's own music were playing at the same time. It wasn't a pleasant experience. The Yupdduk Chicken was absolutely delicious and satisfying, but the potatoes were slightly undercooked and crunchy. Also, the rice cakes had no chewiness at all--they were dry and odd. Since the chicken dish didn't have many rice cakes, I didn't think too much of it. But what I feared turned out to be true... The rice cakes in the to-go tteokbokki were just like the ones I had in the chicken dish completely lacking in texture or chewiness. They tasted like dull lumps of flour, not rice cakes. I was really disappointed. They looked just like the usual Yupdduk rice cakes, so maybe they were just really old? I've microwaved leftover tteokbokki so many times before and never experienced the rice cakes losing their texture like this. These were so bad, I don't even want to call them rice cakes. It honestly ruined the experience for me. Next time, I think I'll just avoid the rice cakes altogether and only eat the other ingredients... Even though rice cakes sometimes look like that, they've always still had a chewy, sticky texture until now. But this time, they didn't. Not at all. As a Korean who truly loves Yupdduk, it really upsets me to see it being sold carelessly in the U.S. It means a lot to us, and I hate seeing it poorly made or treated like just another spicy dish. Been going to Yup Dduk in LA, the one in Cerritos until they changed it, as well as the one in Irvine. Ddukbokki, basically Yup Dduk, has always been my soul food. I remember they were notorious for the huge portions that were shareable between large parties - but the portions are just getting pettier and pettier. It used to fill all the way up to the top but now for the to go orders and as well as for the dine in, the portions are not living up to it anymore. Don't get me wrong, the portion is not tremendously small, but when two people can clean up the bowl when it used to feed four people or there were leftovers to take home - you know there definitely has been a change in the portion. Yes we blame it on the inflation, yes the COVID happened, and so yes there will be butt hurt customers. But with the portions decreasing with reduced quality and service while the price is still $25+ for a bowl is insane. read more

I got to start off with a WARNING: DO NOT GET MILD. I had once visited this place before with friends, but did not remember what we got besides a friend ordering the Challenge level spice...With this in mind, we ordered: Yup Dduk ($24): We ordered mild spice thinking it wouldn't be that bad, but it was BAD. It was so spicy, we had to ask if there was anything the employees could do to help us make it less spicy. They refilled our water, gave us extra cheese, a bowl of hot water, and some stomach protection smoothies to help with the spice after they practically saw me crying... We added deep fried spam ($5), ramen noodles ($3), and chinese flat noodle($4). I was a fan of all these add ons besides the chinese flat noodle, as they were stuck together and a bit hard to eat. I'd have to thank the servers for helping me out and providing all the help they did to help reduce the spice. I definitely will take their advice of ordering extra mild next time. They were overly generous to even provide us the extra cheese and smoothies free of charge. I will definitely be returning, because even though it was so spicy it hurt, the flavor was something I would be back for. I came here with some friends for a small get together. Mystique was very kind in assisting me with the menu. One of my friends dropped their chopstick and Heejin, one of the workers, reacted instantly and dropped off another pair of chopsticks within 5 seconds. Yup Dduk hits the soul with their perfectly spiced tteokbokki! I like to refer to myself as a spice lover and mild was quite spicy for me. I'd compare it to the Sam Yang fire noodles since the sauce targets your tastebuds right away; simply delicious on a cold day. The service is quick and fast despite how small the restaurant is. I love that the cashiers warn customers about how spicy it is, which truly shows that they care that the food is at least enjoyable for everyone. It's quite a cozy spot located in the corner of Campus Plaza- sometimes I even walk there with my friends after class! DIY Rice Ball: 5/5 -Simple yet helpful for when the spice attacks! my friends and I take turns making little rice balls for each other with the provided gloves! Nothing is more comforting than a steamy bowl of rice too. Set B: Yupp O w/fried goods: 5/5 -My group and I typically enjoy fish cakes more than rice cakes so this was perfect! We ordered the extra mild Yup O with extra mozzarella cheese and deep fried spam with a side of the tuna mayo rice. Extra mild was great for someone like me who likes spice but doesn't have the best spice tolerance (though you'll need some tolerance to eat at Yup Dduk)! Yup O had more fish cakes than rice cakes, which was the perfect balance for my preferences. It was also my first time here, and the spice level was the right amount of spice, as expected. Service was not bad. The restaurant space is on the smaller side. We got to the restaurant right before another party, and the wait for them would've been another 20-30 minutes, but they ended up doing take out. Ambiance was super casual - the front was playing korean songs and the back was playing spanish songs. Love both types of music but this is definitely a more casual spot. read more

The restaurant is located in the same plaza as Albertson's by UCI. Parking spaces are ample even though this location shares the parking lot with other businesses. I ordered take out, but I want to dine in the next time I visit Yup Dduk. Yup O [4/5]: Yup O has more fish cake than rice cake. It also comes with mini sausages, cabbage, and mozzarella cheese. I also added an order of the ramen noodles on the side. I highly recommend adding the ramen noodles because it goes so well with the sauce. I see the menu says that the main menu items are prepared with meat-based ingredients. I eat meat but I don't eat pork so I was wondering if the sauce contains pork? Is it possible to have an order that doesn't contain pork? Thanks!
The sauce contains beef seasoning and can't be removed. It doesn't have pork, but our sausages do, so you'll have to request to take those out if you want a pork-free order. Thank you

Hello, the yupdduk sauce is not fully vegetarian. So even if we take proteins out, it wont be completely vegetarian. 🥲

Hello Wu! Yupdduk Irvine has few vegetarian options and they are mostly side items such as Veggie & Egg Porridge or basic rice balls. Most of the specialty menu items contain meats. Hope this helps!
Does the yup dduk contain any sesame (seeds/oil/paste) in the dish/sauce?
Hi Yupdduk alone does not. But a lot of our other side dishes and main menus have sesame seeds and oil on them!

Yupdduk Irvine on-site dining experience is only offered in first come first served basis. Rotation is usually fairly quick, and you can always place a togo order ahead and enjoy at many free public picnic tables up front (pro-tip).
Do you use 100% white rice for your rice cakes or are they made with wheat flour?
It is wheat flour based.
