I was not even ask for exchange or coupon for compensation. The lady was keeping arguing with me. She even asked if I can speak Chinese (discremination? ). That's the typical Chinese resturant.. She treated you bad if you can Speak Chinese. Considering I have been the customer in this resturant for the past 35 years. They should imporve their customer service. The guy took the order need to take the training or admit the mistake he made. One more thing, be aware of that they wrote down your order habits subjectively which meant it is all the customer's faults. You've better make up your mind while ordering dishes. If you are in deciding the dishes and sized while ordering, they recorded you as "chaning your mind all the time". What a terrible customer sevice! Yu's Mandarin is no means a fine dining restaurant, but I definitely remembered it as more of a "fancier" establishment when comparing to other Chinese restaurants. When I went today though, I realized they were due for a restaurant decor change. I will say though, they did do a good job with keeping tables social distanced, and I appreciated the dividers between booths. I went during their lunch time special. The food portions were generous and reasonably priced. We ordered 3 dishes to eat + a take order of mapo tofu and only came out to $45. Food came out really fast and tasted delicious. My only complaint is that the xiao-ping pork was a little too sour for my taste. Tip: If you shopping at H-mart, which is in the strip mall 2 minutes down from Yu's, you can get some popular dishes. I have had the following: 1. Kung Pao Chicken (7 out of 10) 2. Deep Fried Fish (9 out of 10 3. Stir Fried Green Beans (9 out of 10) 4. Vegetable Platter Noodles with chicken (10 out of 10) 5. Walnut Shrimp (7 out of 10) 6. Chicken sticks (6 out of 10) 7. Beef sticks (8 out of 10) The food is amazing. They have an extensive lunch menu that takes entrees from their menu, pairs them with soup (unless you order a soup dish as an entree) and an egg roll. I LOVE their orange chicken. It is extremely tasty and actually incorporates orange rines into the dish. I also love their lollipop chicken. It always has a great crisp to them and are flavored with a sweat chili style sauce. If you are interested in viewing the chefs cook, they actually have a see through glass where you can look into the kitchen and watch them cook. This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurant in Chicagoland area. Parking: plenty of parking spaces. It's in a strip mall so there's no issue finding parking spaces. When it's busy, you can just park little far but you can take few more steps. Ambiance: very casual. Noise level is moderate. Food: excellent. I mean by far they have the best Chinese food. I love their black bean noodles, seafood noodle platter, and many other seafood dishes. Service: Very quick. Even if you go at busy time, food come out pretty quick even though waiting can be long. Today was usual. They may not be too friendly at times but they are attentive. Let me start by saying I am floored by some of the negative reviews (which I generally ignore to ensure I form my own opinion) given my recent experience. I was visiting the area on a work trip and one of my colleagues was RAVING about this place and how they had the best Chinese food she had ever tasted. I will say -- it is THAT great, up there with the best of them! The place is pretty spacious, so lots of tables in that traditional Chinese restaurant feel. They seated us right away (table of 5) right in front of the kitchen which was awesome. The kitchen is behind this glass partition so you can see what all of the cooks are preparing which was fun. We ordered a ton of food because we wanted to taste everything. Veggie egg rolls, pot stickers, Singapore noodles (SO GOOD), sesame chicken, kung pao chicken, spicy shrimp, Xiao-Ping Pork and Szechwan Egg Plant. Obviously too much food for 5 people and we had a TON of leftovers, probably enough for 2 more meals. I have to say as a connoisseur of Singapore Noodles, they were outstanding. My second favorite was the Szechwan Egg Plant which I never would have tasted had it not been for my co-worker who insisted we all try it. Everything was delicious, fresh and cooked beautifully. I had been a royal customer last 20 some years. This is not the place that I know of. Because of COVID-19 , I did not have a chance to sit down to eat. I ordered a basic Chinese menu and ask for carry out food for rest of my family. The food was very salty and had to drink two glass of water. After the end of meals, I ask to box to pick up the rest of foods that I left off. If you ask me why, I can not finish a half of food that I ordered. I also ask a box for garnish which is an onion and yellow radish, the server flatly refuse because it is not their policy though they will throw away. It is their policy to come in as many as they can though this is a Covid -19 period. Their price went up at least 30%, but their service and quality down to 50%. Every aspect of the experience and food. Ordered hot tea as we sat down which came halfway through our meal after we had to request again. The Mongolian Beef that used to be fantastic was bland and mushy. The place was dirty. Menu was sticky. We ate it because we were hungry and I think trying to recapture the past. Even the tea had no flavor. We paid and went to the restroom before leaving and although I was prepared for it to be as dirty as the restaurant, it exceeded my expectations. We have been going to this location for over 20 years and our visit last night was horrible. It has never been bad before. The service has gone down hill significantly. We had a party of 8 and got seated right away with no reservation. However, we were rushed to order and then it got worse after that. Our drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive. Our appetizers did not come out before our food. And then, our food was delivered in 4 different increments over 40 minutes. Some of us did not have food while others had to start before theirs got cold. The last to arrive was our two orders of chicken fried rice which we asked for 2 times. I've been going to this place ever since I was a little kid, and it makes me happy to be able to write a review for it. Anytime there's a special occasion in my family, we'd always come here to eat. It's always busy for dinner, and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. There has been one instance where my family's reservation didn't get written down for whatever reason, but aside from that we've never had problems reserving a table over the phone. I've only come for lunch a couple of times but it was fairly empty each time. The service is usually pretty okay and the decorations are fairly traditional Chinese. One of the coolest things (if you're seated in the main area) is being able to watch the chefs cook through the big windows into the kitchen. My family usually orders some combination of the Peking noodles (jjajjangmyun), noodle soup (jjambong), Yu's chicken wings, Szechwan eggplant, mapo tofu, and Mongolian beef. The Peking noodles and noodle soup can be a little hit or miss unfortunately depending on the day you go, but they're both usually pretty good. Yu's chicken wings are very crispy, and have a slightly spicy and sweet sauce that has a mild garlic flavor. I could eat a plate of them without thinking. The Mongolian beef and mapo tofu are both average, nothing too special. The unexpectedly amazing dish is the Szechwan eggplant. The eggplant pieces are fried and has a perfectly crispy outside and a soft inside. The sauce is garlicky and slightly sweet. read more

This review is about a week overdue, but I think it's ok to post it to let others know what they should be expecting from choosing this place. I bought 3 orders of lollipop chicken as a takeout (obviously with COVID-19 going around). I think the pricing was around 15 dollars or so. Yu's Mandarin lollipop chicken was pretty good if I remember correctly, and the reason why I'm saying it this way is that it's not something that I'd eat often as it's far from where I live, and it's not so cheap. Although if it tastes great with a decent portion, I think that'd be fair enough. However, my recent order wasn't very satisfying, especially in comparison to my previous experiences with them. I've attached some photos but here are some of my comments. Before I touch on the "bad", something decent about their lollipop chicken is that their lollipop chicken doesn't skimp on the meat. Yea I'm looking at you Chef Ping and your skinny pang pang chicken. So this restaurant's chicken pieces having a decent amount of meat is something I want to point out as a "good". Now for my "comments". Don't get me wrong, preparing the chickens, seasoning them, and cooking them precisely the way you want it to be isn't an easy matter, but let's not skimp out on the quantity of the dish. Especially when you're busy. I get that with New Year's Eve around the corner that night and people wanting takeouts that the kitchen can be busy. But for the pricing, I'm not sure if the portion presented in the uploaded picture is justified. This isn't a picture taken after I've taken a piece or two out. It's a picture I've taken right after unboxing the thing. Yes, you're busy, but I'm not sure if I would agree with the price for this little portion. I won't be raising my eyebrows if this is how it always was because it isn't! I've consistently had a much more generous portion for this dish so I don't know what's going on here. In fact, this portion difference won't even have caught my attention if the flavor was great. The flavor was bland, and it just tasted like an average-joe chicken to a point where it subtly reminded me of everyone's good-ole panda express. I was trying to convince myself that maybe this was a one-time thing, but based on their attitude and my overall store experience, I think otherwise. Maybe they just don't care as much now. Also, rice. When I get my takeout Chinese food, the last thing I worry about is having enough rice because rice is something every Chinese restaurant gave me in a standard portion. I don't eat much rice, but the rice I received that day, as shown in the picture after unboxing, was pitiful. Just sad. Who fills up only like 2/3 of the rice box? I think packing enough rice that will fit your takeout box is one of the easiest things you can do to make sure customers at least feel like they're getting a decent amount of food. I'm sure people won't mind waiting another 10 seconds to have their rice box filled up properly as they are everywhere else. The fact that I ordered these chicken for a family dinner made it worse.
