I live a lot closer to the Westmont location but was in Schaumburg and was craving my guilty pleasure, crab ragoons. I know, right? They're disgusting...and good at the same time! Disgustingly good. The story of my life. But I did a quick scan of their menu and was happy to see they make one of my other, and much more authentic dishes, mei cai kou rou (roasted pork). This dish is just equal parts of pork fat and meat on top of some savory and sometimes slightly sour preserved mustard greens. it's like a party in your mouth, folks. So I don't have a lot to judge other than those two dishes. Oh yeah, I also ordered hot and sour soup because it's like my impulse purchase for every Chinese take out order. The crab ragoon was just a hot and crispy, cream cheesy mess. One thing i did like about it was that it wasn't sweet. Sometimes, people will put enough sugar in those things to make that diabetes commercial guy blush. But Yu's ragoons are just creamy. If you desire your ragoons to taste like mini fried cheesecakes, you can help yourself to one of the hundred duck sauce packets that comes with your meal. The soup was good, although wasn't really spicy and just lightly sour. And it wasn't brown (not enough soy sauce) but looked a lot like egg drop soup color. Regardless, the taste was decent and the consistency was nice and not a glob of paste from the corn starch. The pork dish though. You guys...It was so fatty, so gluttonous, so good. I love it when people say they don't like this dish because it's "too rich" for them. Good, get out of my way because there's just more fatty pork for me to eat. Also, when my order was ready, I did ask if there was a difference in the menu items from this location and the Westmont location. The food was amazing. We had egg rolls, sesame chicken, broccoli and beef, and orange chicken. Plates were a great size. Beef and broccoli was so good and their was a perfect balance of broccoli and beef sometimes other places just give you broccoli. Definitely will be trying again. read more

Consistent diner here. Love their food and come every week or more often. Today was just SO BAD. There were 2 parties celebrating at this location and the servers were prioritizing those events over the main dining area. Service was slow, so slow that our food came out cold, and although there were smiling servers, we had to ask for our hot tea about 4 or 5 times, and when we asked for boxes to take leftovers home, the plates were snatched off the table and no boxes were brought. There was a family of 6 dining next to us that hadn't received water or menus after having been seated for about 20 minutes. Regardless of the events happening at the restaurant, service and care should always be consistent for every customer that is paying for a meal. The price of the meal itself should reflect what the restaurant needs to make back to function. TIP IS OPTIONAL. With that being said after being so upset with the service, I almost left no tip, but with consideration left a $5 tip for a $100 meal total. Immediately a server comes up to our table to harass us about why we didn't tip 15%. We explained the service was bad and compared to all the other times we felt this visit was extremely disappointing. She continued to say "well 15% is usually what you need to tip, why won't you tip more". She asked the same question about 4 times "why you no tip more? Restaurant no make money". We kept explaining the same answer that service was bad for all the above reasons. Eventually got fed up arguing with her and spoke to the manager clearly about why we tipped that amount today. They previously had the 15% gratuity as mandatory on the bill, but they removed it because people are sticking to the belief of being able to decide how much they tip. Realistically, if the $5 tip we gave and the explanation we gave wasn't something you liked to hear, then fix the issue and the future tip amounts will reflect the service. But at this point, I would 100 times rather pay the busboy a great tip for all the hard work he does than to pay a tip for servers that were lacking in organization and hospitality, on top of that getting harassed about my tip amount in front of the other diners in the restaurant. Went here over 22 years ago and never went back, don't remember why...well I took two of my sons and went there for dinner yesterday. We had a wonderful experience!! The food was delivered fast, hot and delicious!! My one son tried a dish he has never had and couldn't stop raving about it. My other son had his usual and really enjoyed it, he waited about three hours once we got home to finish it, really liked it. I had my usual and my dish is why only four stars. The Kung Pao Chicken wasn't just up to my standards. The chicken was tasty, the water chestnuts were good the sauce and peanuts were lacking....the sauce was not spicy and there were not enough peanuts. I also want to say that our server Moon, was fantastic!!! She was assisted by Peter who while not as outgoing as Moon was very nice and treated us well!! 3 stars because my experience varies whenever I come here. Last time I was here, I had a lunch special which I didn't enjoy, it was really salty and too saucy. I've ordered take out though which has always been really great. Today we returned for a family dinner, had to wait an hr and 15 min to be seated even though a reservation was made. The food was better than I remembered this time, so I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Some of my favorite dishes: sesame chicken, lollipop chicken, spicy noodles, eggplant is awesome, and the walnut shrimp. The noodles are homemade which makes it really good. Yu's is really going down hill. I've been coming here for years and have never experienced the service in the last 5 years that I've had twice in the last 6 months. They forgot my potstickers the first time, okay no big deal. Tonight I waited over an hour for my food when I was told 30 mins. We made a reservation and when we arrived to the restaurant, the very nice man at the take out desk said a host will be with us near the podium. We waited for about 15 minutes, a little past our reservation time and still nothing. Then we are told that if we find a clean, open table, to just sit down. The host never arrived. After trying to find a table for a couple of minutes, people were just starting to sit at dirty tables. As soon as they cleaned one that fit our party size we sat ourselves. When we got there at first, there was no wait time which was nice and was seated right away. The food was amazing and I really enjoyed it all. Unfortunately though, the service provided by our waiter was not okay. She was very rude and pushy. Ate dinner here and it was delicious! In my opinion, the serving size is a bit smaller for the price, but that'll depend if you plan on sharing or not. My favorite dishes were the spicy seafood noodles, the Mongolian beef, and the lollipop chicken. The food does take a while to come out so keep that in mind. If you're ordering noodles especially, order earlier because mine came out when we were all done with our other dishes. The black bean noodles could use some more sauce, but I believe you can order more to mix in. Would definitely recommend and come here again. read more

Went here for my cousins birthday for the first time, not disappointed. It met my expectations honestly. The interior was great but it was incredibly packed. Waiters were rushing all over the place. Despite the great food, the 40 minutes of waiting for our food wasn't very pleasant. I was super starving. I get the massive amount of people needed to be served, but I don't think a wait of 20 minutes is needed for one small plate of appetizers. Everything else tasted like average Chinese food. Sigh, it pains me to have to give 2 stars to my once favorite Chinese restaurant in the Schaumburg area. I haven't been back for awhile, so a week or two ago we decided to go to Yu's for dinner on a Saturday. We waited about 30mins before we were seated. I forgot how outdated their booths were; it was definitely very tight and probably would be more comfortable for two people, but not four adults. We ordered five or six dishes, and they decided to bring them all out at once. Of course, the food didn't fit our table, so they kept pushing the plates further in to the point where the last plate was about to fall off the table. We requested to change to a bigger table, and they said that's a different section and would be a different server. We said how do you expect us to eat if we can't even put our food on the table, and there was still 2 more entrees coming. Finally, they moved us to a bigger table. The clam in black bean sauce was terrible; all I can taste was salt and nothing else. It was soo salty that there was no flavor. My favorite are their spicy noodles, a staple I get at Yu's, but it was highly disappointing. There was no salt or any flavor. The noodles were super bland. The highlight of the evening and saving grace was the pickled mustard fish. The soup was soo comforting and delicious. The fish was tender. After this experience, I am probably going to lay off going to Yu's for awhile. There are other Chinese restaurants in the area that are authentic and not have all the problems we experienced today. I would recommend to management to remodel the inside. The furniture and decorum is very outdated and just doesn't sell the appeal anymore. read more

We ordered lobster with another couple for dinner. The dish came out missing a claw and most of the tail. We complained to the waiter and manager. To bring insult to injury, they offered the lamest excuse saying the chef left the missing pieces in the sink by mistake. This used to be a nice place. I don't know what happened. Their honey walnut shrimp is excellent but the dish that always makes me drool is their Szechuan eggplant. It's a crispy, flavorful eggplant unlike any I've ever tried. I order it every time I'm there and sometimes I still think about the taste of it just because it's so unique. If you order nothing else or you're on the fence, at least try the eggplant. Some guy T-boned me on the way home from eating at Yu's today and I was actually more annoyed that the accident delayed my digging into the leftover Yu's, than the actual damage to my car and hassle of dealing with the popo and insurance company. So there you have it. Yu's: So good, you stop sweating the small stuff... and the giant caved-in spot of my passenger door. Even at lunchtime on a Thursday, I had to park clear across the strip mall to find a spot. I walk up, greeted by giant dragon-lions and proceed into packed dining room, lined with their open kitchen, to meet my awaiting company. My lady who lunches had ordered this crazy beef skewer appetizer that consists of several sticks of beef and a cast iron cup with a fancy grate on top with flames spewing out. It was beautiful... and spelled as if it was sent straight from the heavens and escorted by Grade-A Angus angels. Already on the table was a gallon-sized carafe of green tea... ain't nothing wrong with that. And after scouring the menu, I decided I couldn't live without the spicy shrimp entree listed on their specials menu. When the dish came I was excited to see it wasn't drenched in heavy, greasy, jelly-like sauce, as that had been my experience eating Chinese food my entire life, and also the reason I've hated it since childhood and and pretty much never (maybe twice in the last decade...maybe) eat it. But Yu's was different. It was fresh, flavorful and light yet filling and the peppers in the dish were dried and smoked and charred to perfection, making this the greatest Chinese food meal I've ever had. The shrimp in my meal was plentiful and not fried to oblivion or the size of sea monkeys like at most places. It was because of this delicious dish that I nearly flipped my sh*t having to wait for a police report to print because everyone knows there's a very strict time frame in which unrefrigerated shrimp is still good... plus, you can't reheat that sh*t. So now I'm faced with the issue of not eating Chinese food for nearly 3 decades, and now worrying that I might blow my accident insurance claim on nothing but nibbles from Yu's Mandarin. read more

We've been coming to this place for over 16 years and loved everything about it - hostess, wait staff, food, ambience. What a disappointment tonight! We moved away 4 years ago, and decided to drive the 40 minutes for dinner and everyone was so excited but that turned quick as soon as we walked in... First sign we should leave was a hand-written sign at the hostess station to seat yourself if less than 5 people, so we waited since we were 5. After 10 mins and no one asking if we need help, we asked the employee by the carry-out counter if he could find someone to seat us, to which he replied "Just wait, someone will be there" and then told someone else, also 5 people, "Just sit at any table". We finally decided to seat ourselves and then another 10 minute wait to get someone's attention to take our order. Food was blah, service ok, never had refill on water or was offered tea, no one checking in after food came for drink refills, 1 dish didn't come out and we had to flag down waiter, asking for it. So much so that we barely eat half of them. Dinner plates placed on the table after the greasy apps are removed. Mine dirty on top. Steve's is dirty on the bottom. Gross! But ok. It was and accident. I give the plates back to the woman that dropped them off. She apologizes and takes them away. You would think to put them into the dirty dishes to be washed again. But what do ya know.....another guy brings us back the EXACT SAME DIRTY DISHES I just handed the woman two minutes earlier. S. O. B.!!! She put the dirty plates back wherever they store clean ones and gave us back the same friggin dirty dishes. What the hell!? I've been going here for years but most recently two days ago (JUNE 2016) for a dinner hosted by my parents in my honor. We had a party of 22 and ordered 4 different entrees, but 4 of each kind. This place has never had the best service but they didn't handle our large party too badly. Food arrived fast, was tasty and hot. Yu's mandarin has a slightly unorthodox style and taste which is why I love it. I feel like there is a South Asian influence to their food. It has a kick to it. They serve massive portions for their entrees for dinner. I highly recommend the Princess Prawn and the Szechuan Fish. The latter is spectacular. For a restaurant in the middle of Schaumburg which is a bit of a melting pot, there should not be a language gap. Improving the communication of their servers and slightly upgrading the quality of service will take this restaurant to 5 star status. If you're reading this, Yu, that is my promise. read more

Honestly I don't see why this restaurant has so many accolades. Yu's might have been a good restaurant a decade ago but it certainly is not any longer. The food here is very overrated. It's borderline mediocre and overpriced. The meats they use especially their beef were pretty low grade and wretched tasting. The service leaves a lot to be desired. The customer service motto at Yu's is SERVE & FORGET. Waiter was inattentive, forgot to set two plate settings, no water, no refills after receiving water, served (4) out of the (5) meals and had to be reminded multiple times that an entree was missing. The 5th entree arrived 15 minutes later with no reasoning or apology. The dining space in and around our table was super dirty. Bottom line, save your money and your appetite for a place that appreciates your business and extends basic hospitality to it's diners. read more

I have been eating at Yus for 30 years and at one time probably ate lunch here at least twice a week. Today was my first time back in a while and it was shockingly bad. First of all the service was horrible. It took over 30 minutes to get my lunch and my server never checked on me at all. The broccoli beef was very disappointing-the sauce was excessively salty and the meat was gristly and tough. In addition the egg roll was cold. Then I had to request a check twice. From now on I will drive the extra 20 minutes to Chef Pings. The extra time spent is worth it to get food that is actually edible. read more

Ugh this is a step above a hole in a wall Chinese restaurants because of it's enormous dining area. Otherwise, it comes with most Asian food establishments' bells and whistles: bad service, bad quality food, overly salted foods, and 20,000 items that are fried and practically swim in the same type of gravy. But I can't lie, I love some good shrimp fried rice and shrimp walnut. Must have: shrimp walnut. I would take it to go though. I hate their not so visually appealing carpet that appears to be saturated with oil, dirt, and everything that touched it. Went here for lunch yesterday with 5 other people. The food got so bad. I think they Americanized the food like crazy and the portions got so small. Everything is either really bland and no flavor or just salty and kinda oily. Also, the food came out separately and some of us were waiting while other people got their food. Some of us ordered the lunch specials. The hot and sour soup was good. Prob the best thing I had that day. I got the beef and scallop dish. I found mine kinda salty and greasy, but still ok. I liked the eggroll. I tried using the mustard on the table and it literally burned my mouth. Such a strong, horrible mustard taste, I thought it was severely burnt eggroll that I was eating, but nope, just mustard. Other people got the seafood noodle. It was so bad. So boring and no flavor. This used to be one of the best things here but it's just bad now. Do not order this. We got the lollipop chicken too and it was all batter and no chicken. Horrible. The pieces of chicken were tiny and there was no meat on it. It was mostly batter, maybe to compensate for the lack of meat! This was another one of the best things on the menu, but not anymore. I've been coming here for years and rarely disappoints. I've probably been here 6 or 8 times. Today I came here for a quick lunch by myself. I ordered vegtables cooked in white sauce. They were a bit too undercooked for my preference so I had the chef cook them a little longer. They were served with hardly any sauce so I asked for more. The waiter did bring more and it helped. I'll order something else next time. The service was great and I'll be back in the future. The only thing I don't like about this place is that small step next to booths. Food here is generally very reliable and the menu is pretty big. This place is pretty popular so you need to make sure you make a reservation or get out early for both lunch and dinner. If you don't want to wait, Chef Ping in Rolling Meadows has an equally long line but iChef in Hoffman Estates serves up authentic cuisine without the long wait (only real big drawback is that Yu has more large tables than either restaurant if you're planning to serve a large party). read more

Tried this place for the first time, went in for an early dinner the other day. This is a really big restaurant and really nice place from the inside as well, liked the set up. The menu was massive, that have a pretty large selection. We ordered the Soft Shell Crabs, Spicy Fish Fillet, and Kung Pao Shrimp. overall I was not impressed with the food, the portions were small, the Kung Pao Shrimp was bland, the Soft Shell Crabs were to salty. But the worst part of the experience was the service, we were seated right way but had to wait a very long time until we were greeted by our server. Went here on a Thursday night around 8:30pm. Not a lot of people were eating there, probably like 3-4 tables. We were seated right away and received our water/tea, but we waited a long time for a server to approach our table. One of the tea cups were dirty. We even had to flag down a server to see if we can place our order. He saw us waive and talked to another server to take them or find someone to take our table, which I thought was very unprofessional. Our server came over to our table and took our order. We ordered 2 hot and sour soups, lollipop chicken, beef with flat noodle, and salt and pepper squid. The food was good, but I felt that the beef with flat noodle was very oily. Tonight was the first time trying this place. I've picked up numerous orders from here, with UberEats, so i was very curious to see what this place was all about?! I ordered egg rolls, steamed pot stickers, and orange beef. Egg rolls: smaller than I'm used to. They use an egg roll wrapper that is similar to a spring roll, rather than the egg rolls I'm familiar with. The flavor was decent. Pretty basic. Steamed Pot Stickers: they're packaged on a wilted piece of lettuce. I'm not sure if this is what they normally use for to-go orders only or if that's what you get when you dine-in, too? It's weird and unnecessary. It didn't make it look elegant and it stuck to the pot stickers. I'm really confused as to what the reason for including it was?! The pot stickers flavor was good, about average for a Chinese restaurant. They weren't anything I'd go out of my way to order again. Orange Beef: i liked that they include an orange wedge. It wasn't necessary, but it ok. On their menu, this dish is marked spicy. I was really disappointed that it lacked any spiciness to it. It was flavorful, just not what i would call spicy. The pieces were all clumped together, which made it difficult to transfer to my plate. The woman at the counter was nice. Despite being very busy, i didn't have a long wait to pick up my order. Someone said this was not a good place to benchmark chinese food but then goes on to say they ordered mongolian beef, sesame chicken, and pad thai...maybe 1 of those things is "chinese". My family always gets stir fried pea pod tips, szechuan eggplant, chive/pork stir fry, or stir fry green beans. Taste is always consistently good. My parents also love the "liang zhang pi" which is this mustardy cold noodle salad with seafood and veggies. It's a giant platter and best shared with at least 4 people! Bathrooms here are pretty clean for a chinese restaurant. I wouldn't go unless I had to but I also won't hold it here! You know those places where you have to go but would rather challenge your bladder's strength than to step foot into their bathroom...! read more

This was an impromptu lunch and the portion sizes are really big. There wasn't much that a vegan person could eat other than vegetable fried rice sans eggs. The service was super rushed. It was like being in Seinfeld's soup nazi episode. You got in, were seated, and were expected to order right away so they could get your food to you and get you out the door to make room for the next customer.
