Ebi Katsu Sando and Hojicha Goma Latte
    Wesley L.

Ebi Katsu Sando- Nice warm sando perfect for lunch. Nice and crispy and whole shrimp within the crispy patty is very flavorful with a nice bite. The patty does try to slip out when you try to take the first bite so it can get a bit messy with the sauce. Hojicha Goma Latte- cold latte that was refreshing. The cream top with sesame was nice as well. The black sesame was not over powering in the cream. The hojicha was nice and the black sesame did not over power the taste and was able to taste both throughout the entire drink. The drink overall is not too sweet which I was very happy with. A nice cafe with a marketplace for food. There is a long line for the cafe but the market place line is usually shorter when it comes to lunch time. I went to the cafe line first and then went to the market place for my food while waiting for the drink. Lots to choose from and looking forward to when they open the rest of the space. Parking can be a bit challenging but they have their own lot with more parking in their back area. Looking forward to coming back again!

Really cute new Japanese cafe with solid pastries and really really good drinks. I'm not sure the line is worth it (30-45+ minutes) but would definitely come again if the wait gets shorter. FOOD: Hojicha Goma Latte (10/10) - Probably the best drink I've had this entire year!! The hojicha pairs perfectly with the black sesame cream. Must get! Ginger Scallion Waffle (7/10) - Not pictured, but fresh waffle with asian influences. Worth trying! Slightly cheesy! Matcha Loaf (8/10) - Goes perfectly with the drinks. Not dry at all. Try it! Black sesame scone (5/10) - Skip this one. Super dry and breaks apart.

Finally got to try Yutori after seeing a lot of buzz on social media. It is beautifully presented, and I love the outside landscaping and decor. Thankfully, there was ample parking, but I could see it filling up during peak times. I think the interior layout is counterintuitive though. I could only see one entryway, but there are separate counters for the cafe and the konbini inside. The cafe is at the front and where most traffic goes, so I can see it being confusing for patrons seeing a long line for one door. Onto the food and drinks. I saw people with a matcha drink that had a banana cream top - so I asked if I could have the hojicha latte with banana cream top instead of the black sesame, but was told no. I thought that was strange, since the cream tops are made separately and poured onto the drink. Oh well. I still enjoyed the drink, and figured the baristas were swamped anyway. We tried the egg sando and banana cream & pecan sando from the konbini. The egg sando was just okay, I would say it had half the amount of filling you'd normally see. I've also never seen egg sandos with cucumber, but I love cucumber so it didn't bother me. I could see some having an issue with it though. Th banana cream and pecan sando was perfection though. It was our favorite of everything we tried! Not too sweet, perfect ratio of cream, banana pieces, and crunchy pecans. A mess to eat, but a delicious mess! We took the banana loaf home for later, and I think it had miso? It was really good and rich in flavor. I'd definitely come back and try other things!

Long line out the door, took about 30 minutes. Overall, I'll have to say not worth the wait. We got 4 drinks and every drink tasted the same. There was barely any distinguishing flavor. You couldn't taste any miso in the miso latte, you couldn't taste any kuromitsu or bourbon reduction in the kuro, etc. We'd definitely come back for the pastries, which you can get from their store in the back and skip the line. Favorite was the neri goma chocolate cookie. Loved the toasted flavor with melted chocolate all inside. Food looked okay but super overpriced. $11 for a small strawberry cream sando, $48 for their small nigiri platter. Drinks were almost 2x what they're priced at the Asian market. They have a parking lot but if it's busy, you'll have a tough time finding a spot.

Stopped by Yutori on a Saturday morning to get a boost of caffeine! Yutori is located on El Camino Real rd and has it's own small plaza filled with parking spots (it was not hard to get something right off the bat!) I went around 11 AM and while there was a line, it was pretty short to what I thought to expect. There is plentiful of outdoor seating so you can hang out and chat away with your friends, and very limited interior seating where I did see people work from home. The shop itself is split between their cafe (where there is a line for off the bat when you walk in) and their small market where they have grab-and-go foods and japanese houseware. Personally, I would have wished to get a chance of seeing the grab-and-go items first before ordering at a cafe. The layout makes it hard to go check out the foods first (ranging from sandos, sashimi, dons) and then order at the coffee area. You would need to go in from the food market first and then exit to join the line queue outside. A recommendation would be to maybe also have somewhere on the menu any grab-and-go specials they have or to have some items nearby the register of the cafe too for folks to know. The market and cafe registers are seperate from each other. That being said, the cafe area does have baked foods that have unique asian flavors. I opted for the black sesame scone, while I did eye the banana miso loaf. I think something cool I noticed too is that they had a lot of gluten free items for folks with allegries (matcha financier, a savory waffle, etc). For drinks, I ordered a Kuro Latte which is their signature and while it did help me wake up and I tasted the coffee, I will say I did not taste much flavoring (kuromitsu) to my liking. It was lightly sweeten which was fine but I did not get any smoky bourbon flavors. The black sesame scone was good though, very moist and pronounced with the toasted flavors. Overall, I need to come back here to try more items. I think I wouldn't necessarily rave to come here as a must but I do want to explore more of their selections to see what makes them unique.

Super cute japanese cafe / konbini in palo alto! The queue was super long even on a saturday morning. My friend and I got the banana loaf with kinako streusel, black sesame scone, hojicha latte with black sesame cream foam, and the sweet miso latte. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and I like the vibe of the place. Unfortunately though I felt like the pastries and drinks were all too sweet. Even with half the sweetness, it was still too sweet for me but if I got any less I wouldn't be able to taste the miso. Similarly for the black sesame cream, there was barely any black sesame taste, it just tasted like super sweet cream. I would be down to try the sandos or prepared food next time but I don't think the cafe or pastries are for me

The food and drinks were decent. We ordered the ebi katsu burger, chirashi bento, black sesame foam top hojicha, and miso foam top matcha latte. Everything was enjoyable and had good flavor. The biggest downside is the ordering process -- you have to wait in line twice because food and drinks are handled at separate counters with separate cashiers. You can't place the full order at once, which feels inefficient. Seating is also extremely limited. The staff mentioned that they are still working on the restaurant area, so the full seating area isn't open to the public yet. Overall, the quality of the food and drinks is solid, but the double-line system and limited seating make it less convenient and somewhat counterintuitive for the relaxed, chill café vibe they're aiming for.

TIME & DATE: Came around 10:20 AM on a Tuesday, wasn't super packed as people said, but, it was pretty filled up, and a little busy. PARKING: Big parking lot, but, could be occupied fast if there are a lot of people queued for the place. INSIDE & OUTSIDE: The inside is pretty spacious, it gets pretty tight if the line goes out the door, but, the place is really ambient & has a calm interior, the huge line is for the cafe & the deli has no line at all at times. You can order more food when you see the menu. There is also plenty of outside seating available. FOOD & DRINK: Banana Kinako Pastry - I forgot the full name but this was super moist and tasted really well. Black Sesame Scone - really tasty black sesame taste, not super sweet or strong but you can really taste the black sesame, it isn't super dry or moist either. Just right. Unagi Don - So good and I love the scrambled egg ribbons, I wish they had more unagi though. Black Cod & Salmon Onigiri - super good, so much filling and they don't really skimp on it, but, the rice is a lot. Banana & Pecan Sando - cream isn't too sweet, and I love the pecans! Kuro Latte - Tastes pretty basic, not too much of a black honey taste but it is just right to make it not super sweet. Earl Grey Matcha Latte - Love the balance between both Earl Grey and Matcha. Black Sesame Hojicha - So yummy, my two favorite flavors LOL (All Iced & subbed with oatmilk) Super cute cafe! Highly recommend going weekdays early while the hype goes down.

Came here around 10AM on Sunday and there was a line already. It wasn't too long at the time but I noticed the parking can be difficult. They do have their own parking lot, but it is limited and some areas aren't defined. So I definitely would recommend coming early and factoring parking + wait. There are two separate lines - one for the cafe and the other is for the market. If you're coming here for the sandos, bentos or home goods, you can skip the cafe line as there is almost little to no line for the market. The cafe line takes a while. I believed I waited around 30 minutes to order. Cafe drinks + pastries: Earl Grey Matcha - this is an iced drink only. It was good. I like that it wasn't sweet and has a subtle earl grey flavoring from the crème. Sweet Miso Latte - Both hot and iced option available. Got this with iced with oat milk. Definitely unique! You can taste the miso flavoring. I don't hate it nor do I love it. Ginger Cheese Scallion waffle - it tasted like cheese waffle. Ginger and scallion flavor is mild. I wouldn't get this again but it was nice trying it. Black sesame scone - delicious! Not overly sweet either and nice flavoring. I would definitely get this again! Market: Onigiri - I got the tuna mayo and miso salmon onigiri. Just your standard onigiris. I didn't find anything to be amazing and just okay. They were "fresh" as we got them when they were putting out a new batch. Egg Sando - I tried both the tuna and without tuna version. A little disappointed as I found the bread to be the wrong texture for this type of Sando. Honestly, just tasted like white bread slices which were more firmer vs soft. Ambience - this is not a quiet space if that is what you are looking for. Lots of conversations happening all around. They have outdoor seating and indoor. The cafe is extremely small inside so there is limited seating. There are also two outdoor patio seating areas. Overall, I would come back if I was in the area and there is no wait. A great place for a small bite and to have a nice sit down conversation. Love the market and cafe concept. Very clean interior concept.

Came during the weekend line was long but moved along maybe 20 minute wait. Ordered black sesame scone, banana bread, unagi don, and earl grey matcha. Black sesame scone - loved the glaze on top. Scone has a great black sesame flavor as well with small grinded up black sesame peices infused in the scone batter. Would get again 9/10 Banana bread- not bad taste moist cute small solid banana bread Unagi don- not bad. Not very warm. Wouldn't get again Earl grey matcha - doesn't taste like earl grey tea foam. More like a sweet floral foam. Matcha was ok but not very strong. A bit Disappointed wouldnt get again 6/10

I really like the concept, which is a combination of a cafe and market/deli. I hear there are plans for a restaurant later here. I haven't tried the drinks at the cafe yet, but I did check out the market/deli. That side sells home goods, pantry items, as well as deli foods. After trying their onigiri, sandwiches (both sweet and savory), as well as their hot food, I'll say that overall the food here is solid, albeit quite pricey as expected of a Palo Alto establishment. The banana pecan sando was new to me and it was actually very good. The outdoor seating area is very charming with its Japanese aesthetic, but it does get packed. We bought some deli stuff and took it to the park around the corner for a nice little picnic. Parking can easily fill up in this tiny lot, so you might have to find street parking. If I'm in the area, I would check it out, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

There are two entrances. The long line near the parking lot is for the cafe. If you'd like to order sandos or to-go items from their "konbini" area, go to the second entrance that is on the main road. Ordered: Hojicha Goma Latte 5/5 (a must order) Ebi Katsu Sando 5/5 (very savory) Black Sesame Scone 3/5 (was dry) Neri Goma Chocolate Chip Cookie 3/5 (very nutty & doughy texture)

Choose wisely! An upscale take on the famed Japanese "Konbinis" (convenience stores) with grab n go snacks, drinks and simple meals, Yutori has arrived in Palo Alto on busy El Camino Real just south of Stanford Stadium. Understated simple ambiance, cheerful enthusiastic service! Lots of seating, but wow.. is this place popular! Wise choices reward you here. Hits and misses await on the menu. Pro Tip: The line streaming out the door is for drinks (matchas, lattes and coffees and pastries) If you want lunch entrees and hot food, head on inside past the coffee counter to the merch and cafe section just beyond. There is a separate checkout counter at the back where you may purchase your food and merch. For our visit, we tried: Miso Salmon Don Tasty salmon on a moist bed of Japanese short grain rice. The tiny slices of pickled veggies for a side complemented the rice and fish well. The miso reduction on tbe grilled salmon was delicious in its unique way. I was still a bit hungry after this main. 4.2/5 Miso Cod Onogiri Most of the onigiris here are pretty big, but the ones we tried ( Beef also) had way too much rice for the meager amount of filling that you get. The Miso Cod in my onigiri was barely detectable to me. Most other places offering Onigiri have more filling. I'd rather have less rice and a smaller onigiri to match the small amount of filling, or ideally, more filling and less rice. Nice coating of Furikake and the Nori was as crispy fresh as can be, but the overall result was bland. 2.5/5 Yuzu Yogurt Parfait Medium sized parfait topped with a tray of their in house homemade granola. The highlight of this was the Yuzu reduction atop the plain yogurt. The granola was perfectly crisp and toasty by itself or mixed in with everything else. I savored every spoonful. 5/5. Banana Bread with Kinako Streusel Topping Excellent. Moist and flavorful inside but the star of the show were the crunchy balls of toasted KInako in a sweet glaze on top. Kinako is toasted soybean flour with a slightly nutty flavor, but it reminds me of a toffee here just a tad. You just have to try this! 5/5! Bananas, Cream & Pecans Sando A good idea in concept, but to me, far too rich. The Mascarpone heavy cream overpowered the bananas and pecans in the sando. That said, once you get past most of the cream, the candied pecans were quite aromatic and a crunchy contrast to the halved banana slices buried within. The slices of Japanese-style milk bread encapsulating the bananas was on point -- moist and slightly dense. I just wish this sandwich used a lighter cream and half as much of it. 2.75/5 Despite the misses, we hope to be back again soon to try the Ebi Sando and the big looking Tonkatsu Bento, both of which looked delectable! Pro Tip #2: If you want real food, not just drinks, get here earlier in the day definitely before 3pm for the best selection of entrees. Pro Tip #3: The parking lot looks small at first but if you drive into the lot past the back of the restaurant, a much bigger parking lot appears! Bike lane out in front, and a healthy 1 mile walk from Caltrain at California Ave Caltrain station.

I didn't want to drink too much at lunch, but they had a $29 sake flight of three 1.5 oz pours, which was just the right amount to pair with the sushi but still be able to go back to work after lunch! We also got one of the à la carte add ons: the hand chopped fatty tuna and uni hand roll. To finish: red miso soup At the end, you can watch the chef preparing the bento boxes, which was a good reminder for me to keep my eye out for the next available pickup. The fish was high quality, and the pieces were cut to the right size (I've been to way too many places with unappealingly large cuts). Each course was thoughtfully prepared, and pacing was consistent. For the quality and quantity of food, as well as the service and dining experience, this was a hot deal for $125 a person.
