Paul is very nice and made me feel so welcomed! He remembered me even though I've only been there once. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. If I recall correctly, he said that the strawberry cake ball, coffee cake, and a few others were popular picks. There is only outdoor sidewalk seating (a total of 3 small tables with 2 seats each). The interior is tiny, and it carries the feel of a quick in-and-out pickup store. It's also right across the street from Pasadena's Central Park if you're looking for a stroll while you eat. It's very transit-accessible. It's a 5 minute walk from the A line Del Mar station. death by chocolate cookie ($3.85) - It's just a typical double chocolate cookie! It's a little gritty and dry (maybe it's gluten free?) but still delicious nonetheless. coffee cake ($5.88) - sweet, with a flavor of cinnamon (not in an overpowering way). If you enjoy coffee cake, definitely get this, as vegan coffee cake is a rarity in Pasadena and LA. ice cream sandwich ($9.25) - honestly, i think this was a little too sweet for me. The ice cream itself was plain vanilla soft serve, but when sandwiched by two entire chocolate chip cookies, I think the sweetness can be overpowering. Keep in mind that it also melts very fast (since it has the consistency of soft serve) and this makes it hard to keep the whole sandwich in shape. If you do not plan to eat it right away, I would not recommend getting this as it'll melt in a mere minute. read more

The place is small but cute. The young lady that helped us was nice too. I really wanted to like these sweet treats as I'm always up for supporting small businesses and vegan foods as well. The tiramisu was dry, flavorless but a bit bitter too with no taste of coffee. It was pretty and really did look like tiramisu but the flavors were not there. Founded by French trained chef, Yvonne Ardestani, this dedicated vegan & gluten free bakery carries an array of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, other baked delights, vegan cheese, & savory options. The shop is small and there is no seating available. Erin was friendly and happily answered my questions. I selected a Lemon Curd Cupcake for my friend ($5.75) and a slice of Coffee Cake for myself ($5.30). OMG the coffee cake was sofa king delicious! It was moist, flavorful, and the crumb topping was perfect. It was addictingly good. I'm craving it as I type this. My friend loved the cupcake. This place is amazing on all levels. It's delicious, personal, and a healthy option for those sensitive to dairy, gluten, and looking for vegan option. I went to UC Santa Cruz with Yvonne and so it hit me personally to have a fellow banana slug create a successful business! My only wish is that this was up north near my house... oh wait they deliver nationwide! We live in San Diego and had an appointment in Pasadena, so we stopped into Yvonne's Vegan Kitchen to pick up some "road candy" for the drive home. We may have gotten a little carried away--in the best way--and left with about a dozen items. Zero regrets. Absolute standouts: the coffee cake is hands-down one of the best we've ever had--plant-based or traditional--and we don't say that lightly. Total connoisseurs over here. The ice-cream sandwich cookie was another showstopper: incredibly fresh, soft, and indulgent--pure dessert dreams coming true. We also loved the mint chocolate chip cookie, a Thin Mints-inspired treat that was perfectly crisp with just the right amount of mint. We tried three cupcake flavors; while the flavors were good, they weren't quite our preferred texture (we tend to love super-soft, ultra-moist cupcakes). That said, everything else we tried more than made up for it. We'll absolutely be back for our favorites and to try more treats the next time we're in town. This little shop is a vegan heaven! There are so many delicious looking options to choose from, and when I went in Yvonne was offering small samples of the cookies to try. I tried the matcha cookie, and even though it was a tiny sample it was delicious, great matcha flavor and not too sweet. I ended up getting a slice of pandan pie, which was insanely good. I had never tried pandan before, and Yvonne was so sweet explaining to me what it would taste like. It's amazing how incredible the food here tastes despite being vegan and gluten free. The shop itself is pretty small and does not have seating but there are a few tables and chairs outside. Highly highly recommend!! read more

My family and I get cakes from Yvonne's because we have members with deathly allergies against dairy, nuts, and seeds. I'm talking the throat swells and closes up kind of allergies. So it was very important to find a bakery we could trust for our special occasions. We have peace of mind that any items with allergens are disclosed and items without allergens are really free of allergens. I got a confetti cake for my brother's birthday. I added $3 for the cake inscription. I later realized the inscription wasn't complete because the letter I was missing a dot and the letter T was missing a cross. That was a bit annoying considering other bakeries don't charge for inscription and didn't make these mistakes. The cake itself was very very moist and dense. The frosting was very sweet and buttery. A little bit of cake goes a long way. I got the 6 inch 2 layer cake for $72 and my family of 6 ate half of it because it is very dense and sugary. My family appreciated the sprinkles were colored by vegetables. Overall, the cakes are good for being vegan and on the expensive side. However, for my family, it's worth the peace of mind to enjoy an occasion without anyone having an allergic reaction. read more

OMG!! I heard about this place from listening to the Handsome podcast and it is now starred in my FAVS!! It has been difficult to find a vegan and GF bakery that makes food taste like I'm not missing out on anything yummy. I tried several items, including the goatless cheese and SCORE! And how do I know that this place is a keeper, my hubby who always knows when he is eating vegan items didn't bat an eye when he gobbled up my goodies. Let's be clear: Lee didn't offer to waive the fee until after I questioned it. I said I was walking away over one day and thirty dollars, and only then did the waiver suddenly materialize. Lee also seems to have forgotten that I emailed on the 31st asking about Anaheim delivery. The photo was reference only -- stated plainly -- and the request was one tier, slightly larger. Lee never asked the flavor, yet claimed you needed 'extra ingredients.' Had he asked, he would have known I wanted one of your standard flavors, just a slightly larger standard cake with ganache on top. And at no point did he suggest ordering a standard cake from the site. Lee cited a fee for ingredients and scheduling without knowing the flavor or the size. So many choices....and very good "bad" stuff...I use the term bad loosely meaning it isn't good for me just cuz it is Vegan but I love to support the business if possible. Surprise, surprise! We just happened to walk by this place and went in without realizing it was both vegan AND gluten free. We were pretty skeptical and almost walked out, not our thing normally, I LOVE gluten! And butter! And everything else! But the selection looked pretty good, and we decided to give it a try. We got a piece of their apple pie and a slice of the pandan cake, and I have to admit, they were both really, seriously good. The pie was more like a crumble, which was a good thing, lots of nice toasty oats on top, plenty of perfectly cooked apples, and just the right amount of spices. The pandan cake is the best I've had, the pandan really comes thru and the texture is moist and the cake is not too sweet. We're going to go back next week to try something else, and while I am not giving up gluten or dairy any time soon, this is a great option! read more

I visited Yvonne's Vegan Kitchen after a couple of friends of mine raves about their vegan pastries because I wanted THE perfect cakes for my birthday. The bakery itself resides in a little corner around Pasadena. It's relatively small but highly adorned with pastry decorations for sale and counters with an abundance of goodies. Yvonne and her team were present to guide me through everything. I initially couldn't decide what to order because I had so many flavors of cake I wanted to try! I ended up with not just one, not two, not even three or four, but FIVE cake slices: Blueberry and lemon curd cake Chocolate cake Confetti cake Strawberry cake Vanilla-raspberry frosted cake Each cake flavor was truly stupendous. And gluten free too?! It was tough to select favorites, but when it comes to fruit-flavored cakes...I don't know, Yvonne does it best. I've also tried Yvonne's Vegan Kitchen's Pandan loaf and ginger date molasses cookies. They're both superb as well, so I've never had anything I didn't like from this bakery. Wonderful staff! Couple of things- I am not vegan or gluten free but I love the texture of vegan desserts. I feel like when having someone who worships butter and gluten says this, it means something. I tried many cakes and pastries. My favorite was the coffee cake and the New York cheesecake. Cupcakes were not bad at all. I don't love the strawberry cake as I found it very sweet but I realized that the key to most of these desserts is to defrost them or even put some in the microwave for a few seconds. This makes a huge difference and you should def do it before you try anything. I personally would've added more fresh strawberries and maybe a vegan whipped topping that mirrored whipped cream wouldn't been better than thick icing. But I'm not a chef, so who knows! Adding more fresh fruit juices would also really help. I took one star off for that cake, as it was so sweet I couldn't finish it. Honestly though, this is just my personal preference, you might love it! Overall, this place is great!! I liked Forward to trying other things. Was really looking for an awesome delicious vegan GF cake for my birthday, instead got something lackluster with excess and hard "frosting". For 100 dollar cake, I was expecting something quality. The ratio of cake to frosting is about 60% cake (at best) and 40% frosting. The GF cake is a bit dry, nothing amazing in taste, the frosting is mainly palm oil that is solid and falls apart when cutting. The two do not go together at all. By the way, I doubt anyone expects to purchase a cake, then leave it out 5 to 6 hours "at room temperature" to eat it. This burden of an expectation on your customers is beyond absurd. Take ownership of your inferior product and change the recepie rather than blaming the customer. There's plenty of gluten free vegan cakes that are smooth and delicious upon purchase, this just isn't one of them. Period. read more

Perfect balance it's not overly sweet to where you can't enjoy it but it's also really flavorful . This bakery is ridiculous. I've been buying Yvonne's products for years, but always at grocery stores. The fact that she opened a brick and mortar so close to me makes it just way too easy to go overboard on amazing baked goods, and I'm so happy and so upset about it both at the same time. Happy because everything here is tasty. EVERYTHING. I'd say the majority of the products are on the sweet side, but there are savory options like breads, cheese-spreads, crackers, and biscuits too. There's probably something for everyone. I'm upset because Yvonne's has gone from a rare grab at the grocery store to a semi-weekly expenditure. And while the entire shop is delicious, it's not cheap, which is something I have to remind myself while shopping. As soon as I step in the shop, I'm hypnotized by the display cases, calling me to buy all of it. Must... resist... And of course, I probably shouldn't be grabbing pie every day, but this shop is on the way to my kid's preschool, soooooo.... yeah. Dangerous. Donuts, cakes, breads, cupcakes, cookies, pies, sweet breads, biscuits, cheeses, and more. The "goat" cheese spread is what my wife and I have been hooked on for practically a decade, but with the bakery here in Pasadena, we've got a whole new set of addictions. The jalapeño cheddar biscuits are always a must. The bread pudding is incredibly rich but so, so good. I like the ube and pandan cookies because they're not over-the-top sweet. We generally grab an assortment just to shake things up, along with our staples. We've even snagged a number of the small Happy Birthday cakes for my kiddos. Yvonne setting up shop in Pasadena is a solid win for the city. And yes, everything is vegan, but in most cases you'd never know. This is top-kotch baking, plain and simple, so don't feel like this is a "place for vegans." It's a place for people who like baked goods. The only not-great thing I can think of is the parking. The parking is rough around here, so swinging through to grab things quickly can be a challenge. And like I said earlier, the price tag can climb pretty quickly. I was planning a birthday lunch for my coworkers whose birthday was in December 2023 and January 2024. One of my coworkers is vegan and he was one of the b-day folks. I wanted to get a vegan cake for him so I was in search for a bakery that makes vegan cakes. I started with Susie Cakes in Pasadena, but they don't make vegan anything LOL. However, thanks to them... they recommended Yvonne's Vegan Kitchen in Pasadena. Hence, here I am. I got a chance to meet the owner on my first visit of this small, but quaint and lovely bakery. She is a very nice lady. We had a wonderful conversation and connection. She offered me some free sample cookies. A couple of them were very tasty especially the Death by Chocolate Cookie... cool name, isn't it? Before I order the vegan cake, I wanted to try their cake slices. I got the strawberry slice, chocolate slice, red velvet slice, and a few others. I really liked the strawberry and chocolate slices the most... they were slightly dense and not too sweet, but of good portion. Please be forewarned that you must leave your full cake or cake slices out in room temperature for several hours so they can soften. It took a very long time for my cake slices to soften because my house was cool inside. Actually, they never did soften LOL. I guess I could have microwaved them for a few seconds... I know better next time. Besides the cake slices and cookies, I also got the Cranberry Dill Cheese and Crackers. This item was SO VERY GOOD! It is so addicting!! I can keep eating it and not stop until the log and crackers are all gone. My eldest daughter and I did just that LOL. It was better than the cake slices and cookies hands down IMHO. Get the Cranberry Dill Cheese now! As for the crackers, you can use any crackers... Trader Joe's has a similar cracker as Yvonne's per Yvonne... thank you Yvonne for the tip... I forget the brand, just look for a bright fluorescent light green box... you can't miss it. After trying the cake slices, I ended up choosing the strawberry vegan cake. I called the shop and placed my order. Vegan cakes can get really pricey. I don't think I have ever spent more than $100 for a cake and I just did here. It's all good. Great tasting healthy cakes come with a price just like any organic fruits and veggies. However, the day I picked up the cake, it was not left out at room temperature as I had requested. The cake had hardened from the refrigeration. There was not enough time for it to soften before my team's lunch celebration party. The owner found out about the situation and immediately reached out to me and offered a newly made strawberry vegan cake and have it delivered to me, but it was too late as the lunch party had already started and I didn't get her message until after the fact. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I ended up taking the cake home as 99% of it was not eaten at the party. No fault of the owner. She was very apologetic and offered me a discount if I should order a vegan cake from her in the future. Thank you Yvonne for reaching out to me to resolve the dilemma. I appreciate you. I would have given 5 stars for this review, but I had to knock off 1 star for the mishap. I may be back for the cakes only if they have not been refrigerated yet so I can eat them the way they should be eaten in its original form.
