I normally LOVE this place but had an awful sandwich here today. I asked for the small pulled pork, no cheese and no peppers and with spicy mayo. First the woman made a chicken sandwich, but then made the pork. There was very little pork, no spicy mayo and no BBQ sauce!!!! I did go back to the counter and asked for mayo and was told it was on the sandwich. She then asked if I wanted spicy mayo (which I had asked for) and when she tried to squirt some out of the container it was obviously empty. I want to like this place. I've been 4 times now. Unfortunately, thumbs down. I don't mind the veggies on the sandwich. I tried 4 different sandwiches on all 4 trips. I only liked 1. They seem to copy the subway model of too many toppings and not enough sustenance. It could be a lot better. The service is average to bad. Just went to Z & J today for the first time. The sandwiches are awesome! You can get beef, pork or chicken (prime rib on Fridays), spicy or not and tailored just the way you want. They are big, with fresh veggies, delicious meat, plenty of sauce and nice toasted rolls. I really like the sriracha mayo as a way to spice it up, so good! You also get a mochi candy for dessert, awesome. The gentleman who helped me, not sure if he was the owner or not, was Nathan and he was very helpful and pleasant. I am going back asap. Probably this Friday for the prime rib. I greatly recommend this place, whether you like Asian subs, or just subs, or neither. You will probably like this place no matter what. So excited to add this to my list of favorite food spots. read more

Super yummy! I've only had BBQ beef (spicy) and Prime rib (mild) but they were both absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly in both, and the veggies were fresh and tasty. The spicy isn't too spicy, so don't be scared of it. There were too many carrots for my boyfriend, but I thought it was a good ratio so if you're not really a carrot person ask for light. The smoothies were pricey but pretty delicious, and there's tons of flavors. If you haven't been, you should definitely go check it out, totally worth it! read more

I was introduced to the wonderful world of Z&J Asian Subs about 6 months ago when a coworker brought one to a lunch meeting at work. Have loved the sandwiches ever since. I always go to the drive-up window by Target and order a chicken sub, no cheese or peppers but with the apricot habanero bbq sauce. It's scrumptious. Pair it with a lavender bubble tea and I am eating perhaps my most favorite lunch on the planet. Bread is super fresh and there's just enough spice. When you're feeling particularly adventurous you can order a sub with the spicy peppers on top but watch out, man - they're freakin' HOT! Sometimes I will procrastinate walking 100 yards from work to get lunch at the coffee joint nearby but I'll drive across town just to get an Asian sub. Beats stealing your coworker's slimy Lean Cuisine from the office fridge any day of the week. Also, the young gal who takes your order is friendly and warm - has a rather thick accent but it doesn't seem to interfere or serve as any kind of language barrier between the customer and the amazing noms that await. She has been there taking orders every single time I've gone to get an asian sub, even on the weekend! Must be a family-run business. Subs are a bit pricey but I can only manage to eat a small for lunch - save the other half for dinner or lunch the next day. Two thumbs up, especially if you like a little spice in your lunch life. Just be sure you don't have a meeting right afterward or your breath may blow your coworkers out of the building. read more

My Favorite place to get a delicious fresh sandwich and I love their Mango smoothie with banana, boba and whipped cream. Staff is very friendly and service is quick for a small drive thru place like this one. Line can some times be long because of how popular it is, hope for a bigger location some day but for now I'm happy with the service I get and the food I order. read more

Good stuff. I can taste that the food is cooked using pellets and not real wood. That would be a negative in my book. But they are tasty sandwiches with excellent sauces. They have Lamb on one day, and spring rolls on Tuesdays. I tried the Spring rolls, and they were not very good. Smoked beef spring roll with Peanut Sauce????? Really? Nice try though...the pork was ok, and the chicken too. I go here often as my office is near by. Its a good value, except if you buy a drink or chips. Very expensive for stuff like that...I commented to the staff about it, and he said "Thats money making product!". I love this place! I always order the albacore tuna sandwich and it is perfect. Every time they make it "in between" mild and spicy, which has the spicy sauces but not the peppers. I'm making my way through the different boba tea flavors, but my favorite so far is the pineapple. They are very accommodating and will make anything to make their customers happy. The boba in their drinks is so fresh and delicious, the real fresh fruit is refreshing, and the ability to customize your order (say with soy milk or popping boba, etc etc) is awesome. As a San Diego native, it is disheartening to see a lack of traditional ethnic cuisine in Humboldt. However, I am excited to finally see traditional Vietnamese sandwiches being offered in the Humboldt area. Ingredients are simple but fresh (shredded carrots, cilantro, onions, and spicy red peppers if you can handle the heat). Although the price for one sub is higher than expected, they are also much larger and stuffed to the brim. My boyfriend and I usually split one and share a milk tea with boba. We have tried the pulled pork and bbq beef and have not been dissapointed by the freshness, flavor and proportions. I highly recommend Z & J's to all my friends and neighbors!! So whenever you have to make a trip to Target, swing by for a Vietnamese sub; they are unique and well worth it!! read more
