I didn't even know why a fattoush salad was. I ate the fattoush salad 2 days later. It was still good. It's fried pita bread salad with greens. I lost another bet and ordered that because the person I lost the bet to wanted to try the salad since I couldn't stop raving about it. 2nd time and it's still good will order again. Probably pretty soon. The chicken is juicy and abundant and the vegetables are fresh. And will definitely order again. Yum. My complaints are minor but. I'm surprised to see the price tag online as I had it as part of a catering order and while I didn't pay for it, it was definitely around $20 which is pricey but fine. I see it's $26 (!!) online which I assume is due to fees. That's probably not worth it but it was a great combination and one I will try to make at home. Although it's called a salad, it felt substantial and was full of stuff. Everything worked together so well - the beets and goat cheese, fresh pops of cherry tomatoes, the spiced chickpeas, asparagus, crunchy walnuts, and perfectly cooked salmon. I was in the SF area this weekend and was excited to finally try Za'atar after hearing great reviews about it from friends. I placed the order ahead of time and went to go pick it up. When I arrived, I was thrilled about the parking situation. It's located in a very large parking lot, so it was super easy to find parking (unlike so many restaurants in SF) and there were large signs that made it easy to find Za'atar. The food was ready for me to pick up and take home. The worker was super nice and friendly. When I got home and opened the bag, I was amazed at how colorful and beautiful the food looked! Then when I tasted it, I could not believe it. This was without a doubt the BEST Mediterranean food I've ever had! Absolutely delicious. I am in love with the lamb and beef kabob bowl and ordered it twice. I think the key is to add artichoke hearts and a side of veggie :) also, hummus with mushroom ragu is very tasty. One feedback I'd like to give to Za'atar is that for some reason, the portion for my second order was smaller than the first order - please keep portion size consistent! I remember how excited and impressed I was with my first order, not only because the colors were beautiful, but also how great it smelled, all contributing to the wonderful mix of flavors and texture of everything in the bowl. Found out about this place one day when a coworker picked it for a special team meeting. We ordered through a group order on door dash and I was intrigued by the different options. I ordered the gyro, side salad and a few of the sauces. (Note: I make my own hot sauces, so I am always down to try new things) The food was so good, so flavorful and fresh. ** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I believe this Middle Eastern spot on the other side of Potrero Hill opened in the midst of the pandemic, not an enviable situation for anyone trying to survive the economic consequences of providing solely takeout and delivery services. They advertise "Levantine-inspired street food" on their website, and I honestly had to look up what 'Levantine' was. It basically means Middle Eastern given the wide swath of geography it covers according to Wikipedia. It also meant tasty food from what I ordered. The centerpiece was the $16.95 Chicken Spring Salad, a splendid gluten-free mix of marinated chicken, lettuces, roasted beets, goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, green beans, scallions, asparagus, chickpeas, and chopped walnuts. The two sides I ordered were somewhat overshadowed by comparison. Three large pieces of fairly dry lamb/beef, two well-done and one medium-rare or rare inside, which shows poor quality of consistency. I fully expected well-done meat, and the presence of rare meat made me worried about food poisonong. This was very unpleasant. Some people do like medium-rare, but for me it was an unnerving slip-up. Would otherwise be 3/5. The rice was also rough while the red onion was quite sour. The flavors didn't mix well together, and in general the salad was not richly flavorful. I also saw on Yelp they had great keto options and someone recommended the above dish with artichokes added, so was very excited, because I do keto lunches. My company food provider Sharebite did not list any add-ons for this particular restaurant (they support add-ons for others), but they do have a special request field (fulfillable at "additional charge"). So I filed a special request to use keto rice and add artichoke hearts, even stipulating they could charge up to $5 more. This request was ignored completely, and I just got the $12 rice bowl, which was very unpleasant as I was forced to choose between no-rice or breaking my keto lunch. I decided to eat the rice as a foodie to fully judge the merits of the item, but it wasn't worth it. The takeout bag also didn't come with utensils or tissues (other restaurants all included them). Overall, it shows at least a great deal of carelessness on their part, in both service and quality. Update: Whether it's from breaking keto, half-cooked meat, or nocebo effect, I did not have a great time in the restroom a few hours later. read more
