I remember when this corner spot was part of the familiar Truly Mediterranean chain serving the same type of cuisine as it does now. I had no idea it changed hands, but it was on my walking path to the Chase Center when I secured tickets to see the Valkyries play. Instead of gorging at the overpriced kiosks at the venue, I came here instead. If you're a fan of gluttonous portions of middling Mediterranean, this might be the place for you. On my virginal visit, I thought I was ordering a lighter option with the $13.99 Vegetarian Combo Plate. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the fine print because it consisted of heaping scoops of hummus and baba ganoush, a couple of dolmas, a couple of falafel balls, tabouli, pickles, a bit of Jerusalem salad topped with feta cheese, and a generous helping of thick pita bread wrapped in foil (Photo 8). It was reasonably good but just too much, at least for me. I couldn't take any of it home because I was going to the game, so I ended up tossing half of it away. On a later visit and again before a Valkyries game, I ordered the $14.99 Lamb Shawarma Wrap thinking I might be able to finish it. I didn't. There was a lot of lamb stuffed in that paper-thin pita with only a modicum of pickled vegetables (Photo 10). Again it wasn't bad, just an issue of muchness. I'll probably try them again, but I'll be more prepared for leftovers. My orders are always spot-on, their food is always freshly made, and the staff genuinely warm every time I stop by. The falafel's were crispy and quite nice One of my friends ordered the lamb and beef burger and said she loved the meat part, but that the bun fell apart and my other friend had the lamb Shawarma and thought it was excellent. A good place in the area for a lunch break! Came with my friends around 12:30 PM and there was a short line. You can order at the cash register or also with their touchscreen kiosk. The food takes a little while to come out especially if they're busy -- it seems like the prioritize their to-go orders, and they forgot my friend's meal but made it quickly once they realized. I got the Chicken Kabob Plate, which has a great variety of sides in good quantities. The chicken itself was a little dry; my friend got their Kefta Plate and that was much juicier. I loved the two salads that came with it, and you can easily put some of your plate into the provided pita and still have a lot left over. The meat options have been great so far. Cooked well, great spices... I'm not a huge fan of tabouli so I usually just leave that behind and munch on the rest. This is a no frills mostly to go place. There is indoor seating but I did not see it busy and seemed like most people picked up their orders to go. You can order online, in person or at the kiosk they have in front of their counter. My veggie plate was a little over $15 after taxes. I was able to split into two meals and left full. I actually really like they have a plate option with a variety of things in it, because not all Mediterranean restaurants offer this (instead making you buy everything individually which for the consumer does not turn out as economical as this). While the taste is solid and very good, nothing in particular wowed me but that's ok. For the value, good taste and quick service (I ordered in person and got my meal within 2 minutes), this bumps it up to a 5 stars for me. I order the same thing every time: veggie sampler, kefta kabob plate, and a side of labneh. Their hummus is so good it's better than the baba ganoush (and I prefer baba ganoush anywhere else), the tabouli is excellent, the kefta is tasty, and the labneh is fantastic. Hot tip: dip the kefta in the hummus or labneh. 4 stars not 5 because the ingredients aren't always the highest quality (most apparent in the jerusalem salad) and they can be slightly inconsistent--every now and then the kefta is kind of dry or bland. Also sometimes they slightly mess up orders. I once asked for double tabouli instead of tabouli and Jerusalem salad (see: Jerusalem salad not great, above) and instead got double Jerusalem salad no tabouli (many tears). And when I ordered extra pita they only gave me the extras I paid for and not the pita that's already supposed to come with the sampler. But usually they do great and the price is right, so I forgive the occasional issue. read more

The lamb was fresh and well-seasoned and the rice was plain, didn't have any seasoning. The Israeli salad was okay but the Tahini sauce paired with the whole plate was good and complimented everything in the plate. The pita bread was fresh and warm tooo very solid. The Chicken shawarma plate had a lot of cardamom in the seasoning which i noticed, and we both liked the lamb kebab more than the chicken plate. The sauce that came with it was like a ranch. Some things to note is the red sauce is prettyy spicy so be careful trying it and only try very little cause it has a kick! 4/19/22 I've been to Mediterranean Aroma once before Covid and I recently came here for lunch with my boyfriend. Parking around here is pretty tricky during the weekdays, so your best chance of finding parking would be at the meters. For me, it's only a 15 min walk from work. It wasn't too busy when we got there. As we were thinking about what to get, the cashier kindly asked me if I worked for UCSF. I was in my scrubs and I had my badge so I showed that to him and he said he would give us a 10% discount off our meal. I thanked him and here's what we got: 1. Lamb wrap (his) 2. Lamb shawarma plate (mine) 3. Six piece falafel (share) The food came out fast, which was great since the lunch hour is never long enough. The meat was juicy and super flavorful. The falafel was crunchy on the outside and a pretty green color. I was super full afterwards and brought my leftovers back to work. It's close by to my work so it's very convenient. Good flavor, although could use a little more kick. Would be a five if they threw in a tahini sauce/or something with each wrap or a little extra spice mix (luckily I stock the shawarma seasoning at home.. which is kind of a must for a lot of take out wraps and bowls).
