After many months of thinking that I wanted to eat here, I finally took the plunge. I was not sorry. Immediately upon arriving, I spotted many things I wanted to try inside the deli case. Apparently, these are all to go because we ended up getting fresher, hotter items upon ordering. I just had to start with the Potato Pancakes with applesauce and sour cream. They were the best I have had in years, and way better then my mom's. Crisp on the outside and softly mashed and evenly spice on the inside, they were perfect. Beware: it's an order of 3 and it's best to eat them there, so, make sure you have enough room for those and more. Or make sure that you bring two other people with you. On for the main lunch- an open faced Raphael- turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing and gravy with cranberry-apricot chutney on top of thinly sliced challah. I say opened faced only because I don't think there was a way to actually pick it up and eat it with your hands. The stuffing seemed to be made from the challah as well. Great little place in a strip center. Seems to be a neighborhood place. Came in from Texas to visit a friend and this was our first stop. The decor is very quaint. I ordered the tuna sandwich with potato salad and French toast. It was delicious. The staff was very friendly and assisted us in navigation the menu. There are not a lot of breakfast options in the area. Zaftigs is unique and usually pretty solid. Had one experience where hubby found a shell in his poached egg, and we weren't gonna make a big deal, but he did mention it politely to our server. The manager came over and told us she didn't find a shell in the food after they took his plate away. We were both pretty flabbergasted by this. Like, was she accusing us of lying? Ad did she did through the eggs with her fingers to see if she could find a shell? And if so, why?? Really odd. I used to love the Zaftigs in Brooklime, and like I said, the food is fairly solid, but that experience really soured us on the place. I'm sad to say that I doubt we'll be back. read more

Completely disappointed with my take out salad. I ordered the Greek with grilled chicken and no peppers or olives. It cost 12.79 with the chicken. I didn't see the dressing so I went back in and asked if it was on the salad. The girl at the counter said yes. When I got home and opened it-no dressing!! The lettuce was rusty and I had to ask for the chicken to be packed separately or it would have been hot chicken on a cold salad- wilting the lettuce. Red onion seemed old. And no bread is given. So we opted for this, newer location. Our party of 5 was seated immediately although it was bustling for a Saturday @ 11am. The coffee was fresh and strong - just my style. I wanted to try the Empire Eggs-Two poached eggs, spinach, smoked salmon on potato pancakes, Hollandaise. It was very tasty, I liked very much. The potatoes that came on the side were just ok. I had a few bites of the Banana Stuffed French Toast-In a bourbon-vanilla batter with date butter and berries. A little soggy but super sweet and delish. The bourbon was subtle. Stopped in with a girlfriend for coffee after a Zumba class. The place was packed but we were offered the counter or one of the high tables near the window, we opted for that. We ended up ordering food, nothing elaborate - bacon and eggs for me, fruit and cottage cheese for her. Everything came out fine and fast, coffee and water refills offered and we were checked on a few times. We didn't need much so we didn't expect or ask for much. We were not disturbed or asked to leave even after an hour had gone by and the place died down. Our server was working the counter I believe and a manager asked us if we would mind paying the check so he could go, but assured us we were welcomed to stay, so we did. I'd come back! read more

We used to love Zaftig but today's visit was a huge disappointment and we won't be going back. It wasn't super busy but the service was lackluster and we felt like an afterthought. They no longer give bagel chips and spread as an appetizer. (why would Covid make a difference to that??? If i can eat a sandwich safely, I can eat bagel chips) We had the open-faced pot roast--the meat was cold, tough and gray. Most unappetizing. The potatoes tasted like instant and the gravy definitely came from a packet. We did get a corned beef sandwich that was much better. read more

Okay.....this place has awesome food. My companion had the New Yorker sandwich that came with potato salad and I had the Rueben. I upgraded (for a little more money)my side to get a potato knish. Oh my. I can't stop thinking about their knishes. I have been there before and had their knishes. They have potato, meat, and broccoli & cheddar. I haven't had the broccoli cheddar, but the meat and the potato knishes absolutely rock!!!! They make them there...They are not the orange, heavy dough, belt shaped prefrozen things that are the only ones available in my hometown...yuck.... Anyway, it isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for, and it was worth every penny. Our two sandwiches plus a cream soda and a cherry soda (In cans...the good stuff) with tip was almost fifty bucks. Now listen good, there was so much food in those sandwiches, neither of us could finish them so we took them home and had dinner from our leftovers. That means two people, each had two meals for that price...so .... total of 4 meals. And, 4 of the best quality deli meals you could ever dream of. I forgot to look for dessert because I was going to explode...but last time I went I got their homemade bread pudding made with luscious Challah and raisins and vanilla sauce....ooookkkk...I'm going to dream about that tonight !! read more

Came here for a late lunch yesterday. The menu is quite extensive. It was hard for us to decide what to get. Finally, we chose the smoked salmon potato pancakes and the New Yorker. The potato pancakes were delicious. The salmon and roe portions were generous. The pancakes themselves were decent size. On the plus side, it wasn't as heavy a dish as I thought it would be. The New Yorker was huge! It had pastrami and corned beef sandwich and was served with cole slaw and pickles. There were 3 types of pickles - cucumber, tomatillos and some other pickle. The cole slaw was done very well. The meat in the sandwich was very tasty. We'll definitely be returning to try other items on the menu! On a bad note, they are still training staff so the waitress we had was a little disorganized and thus slow service. But everyone has to start somewhere right? Also, the prices are pretty high. We ate breakfast here with friends on a Sunday: we arrived around 8:45AM. It was already busy, but not packed. We got a table and our order was taken pretty quickly. I had coffee, and it was good. It was refilled frequently. I had one of their omlettes, and it was good. The portion was enormous, for a very reasonable price. The potatoes that came with it were tasty. We each ordered 2 eggs with bacon home fries toast and we split the banana stuffed french toast (AH-MAZING). I had an herbal tea and mom had an unsweetened iced tea. Our waitress was a doll and very attentive. Restaurant was clean with nice decor. The food was delicious. Home fries were fantastic with a bit of seasoning and perhaps cheese? Amazing. Eggs were cooked perfectly (over easy and over hard). Fantastic. I can not say enough good things about the stuffed French toast. It was incredible. With fresh fruit and syrup- absolutely to die for. A fine deli style restaurant. The portions were fairly ample, though they tended to favor the carbs over protein (as do most restaurants). The interior is attractive, with signs and decorative "quaintage" from the past 50 to 150 years adorning the walls. Service was good at a typical restaurant-speed of ~10 min. The wait for a table was a bit longer, about 20 minutes during the lunch crowd. Nice meal (not that an order of fried eggs is very challenging - but credit where credit is due). This place reminds me of the great deli style restaurants of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Not the place for a quiet romantic dinner, rather a lively (not too noisy) place for active conversation or a political argument. The food is spot on. Classical deli fare, nicely prepared, flavorful, and plentiful. I consider myself a connoisseur of the Reuben sandwich. Their's ranked with the best of them. My Daughter was able to find vegetarian options to her pleasing (not an easy task). But I ask you, is not a good deli wasted an a vegetarian? Visited Zaftigs For the first time this week since Joan & Eds closed their doors. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect as I haven't been to their other location. The new delicatessen and restaurant was designed beautifully. A bit of a change from the Joan & Eds days. They even have a small bar that serves liquor and beer. The service was very friendly and they all sported screenprinted t-shirts with humorous phrases like, "Challah Back." I do miss the pickles and cole slaw from the J&E days, but these guys step it up with homemade bagel chips and cream cheese spread, delicious! Huge menu to choose from! Sandwiches, dinner entrees, desserts, plus an all day breakfast menu ensures something for everyone. I had the Brisket of Beef. It wasn't the best brisket I've had ( my mother-in-law's is better) but it was still good. My wife had a BLT sandwich which she loved. "Too much Sandwich...but very good." First let me say that I had a great sandwich and the service was very good. That being said let me say I wish the sandwich had less meat and was less expensive. With the rise of obesity, heart disease and diabetes in this country it would be great to have the same sandwich with 3 oz of meat vs. 7 oz. and to make the price of $ 13.95 less expensive somehow. I also do not need ( altho a nice touch ) the bagel chips and dip accompanying what I order. That not only raises the price but the calorie count as well. You can say you don't want the latter ( a good thing for me as tasty as it is ) and you can say you want less meat ( do not know if the price will change or not ). Yes, i am a fan. This place is really convenient because i really like all-day breakfast kinda places. Zaftigs eggs benedicts are awesome with just the right amount of hollandaise sauce. They have a good selection of non-breakfast items as well. The bread pudding is one of the best i've had anywhere. We've been there many times now. It does get crowded on the weekends. Came here a couple of times, once during the evening and once for breakfast. First time, I ended up getting the Greek burger while my fiance got the potato pancakes with the salmon/dill sour cream. The Greek burger was mostly flavorless and didn't have enough sauce on it. Wasn't impressed. However, the potato pancakes with that sour cream was unbelievable. I wish I had gotten that and just the few bites I had of my fiances dish made the trip worth while. Came back for breakfast because I wanted to give Zaftigs another chance. Not everything on the menu may be gold. This time I tried the rough rider omelette. It was OK. The flavors didn't stand out on their own and it wasn't anything special. BUT, the person I was with got the potato pancakes and luckily they gave me a couple of bites. I think I learned my lesson if I come back. Only get the potato pancakes with the sour cream. read more

sometimes the best breakfast is just the most simple. i was recently asked to meet a client at zaftigs for breakfast and will definitely head back with friends to eat much more of the food. i wanted something light, so just got two poached eggs with an english muffin, fruit, and side salad instead of potatoes. the eggs were cooked perfectly, and served in a little dish that made it super easy to dip the english muffin into the yolks and not make a huge mess. the english muffin was on the large side, crispy, and soft in the middle, exactly the right kind to soak in just a little butter and lots of runny yolk. the salad was pretty big with a light dressing, greens, carrots, and cherry tomatoes. the coffee was great, and the waitress definitely made sure we got our refills too. read more
