I love the latkes! And surprisingly the breakfast burrito :) Everything is tasty and well made.

I just spent $25 for a Seamless delivery including fees and tip. For that I got Whitefish salad on a wrap, a side of potato salad, the cost for the wrap was $14. There is no whitefish on it, it is all thick wrap. It is ridiculous. I called to ask if I had selected a different kind of bread would there actually have been some whitefish, the guy brushed me off saying, "we put that amount of whitefish on every sandwich regardless of bread type, it is expensive." It is criminal to charge that for an empty wrap. I don't know of anywhere else that sells whitefish salad but I do know I will never order from there again. I guess they keep this on the menu knowing suckers like me will try it once and it it is somehow worth it to them. $25 gone and I am still hungry. read more

Zaftigs is a frequent lunch & brunch spot for my friends and I. No matter if I'm in the mood for breakfast or lunch food, Zaftig's extensive menu (with ALL DAY BREAKFAST!) always has me covered. Breakfast favorites: - Banana Nut Bread w/ Date Butter: Wooooow, it's so deliciously rich! The bread itself is very dense (my guess is that there's some sour cream in the mix) and there's a perfect ratio of banana and walnut. The date butter sends it over the top. Yum! - Buttermilk Pancakes w/ Strawberry Butter: The pancakes are fluffy and the subtle strawberry flavor in the butter makes this dish so unique. - The Roughrider Omelette (my boyfriend's favorite): it's very savory and the home fries are always well-seasoned Lunch favorites: - The Rachel sandwich: a grilled turkey/pumpernickel/Swiss/sauerkraut/Russian dressing masterpiece - my go to! - The Essex sandwich: can you tell I love their turkey yet? - Tuna Melt: I can't forget to mention how good their pickles are - their half-sours are amazing! What an amazing place. Was in Wellesley dropping our son off to college and was looking for a breakfast spot before heading home. Saw the reviews and the name caught my eye. Service was excellent. Food was outstanding. Started with a fresh fruit plate and the coffee is great. Son got banana stuffed french toast, wife got eggs with lox and onions and I got their take on eggs Benedict. I saw the menu in the window and have been wanting to try this place. There are so many things to pick from. They have omelets, sandwiches obviously since its a deli, duh, soups, and serve beer and wine. The onion rings were just to my liking. The were crispy but soft inside and HOT! Mr G actually likes them well done which I called burnt so these weren't a hit for him like they were for me. He ordered the Fish and Chip and was a bit disappointed. With so many things to order and try he keeps me guessing when he orders such a thing. I got a Reuben on Sour Dough. I am not crazy about Rye but love Sour Dough. The sandwich was huge. Packed full of meat and was so yummy. I only ate half and bagged up the other to go home. The coleslaw saw stringy and I loved it. The pickle was half sour and was more like a cuke with a tang. I picked at Mr. G's fries and shouldn't have because I was full when our waitress brought over the dessert menu. What was I thinking? I wasn't I didn't think to ask for the dessert menu like I typically do. Next time dessert first. There was a long list from home made rice and bread puddings, to pies and more. Just because you serve pastrami, corned beef, knishes and such should not allow you to call yourself a Jewish style deli or even a "comtemporary" one. The food must also be good. It must be edible. My sister, her husband and I were in Boston for a funeral. We Googled best 10 restaurants in Natick and this deli was on the list and only a 5 minute drive from our hotel. There is nothing much positive to say. We ordered a three-piece potato pancake appetizer. I don't know what is was but it was not a real potato pancake. They appeared to be made from mashed potatoes, were very thick and not at all tasty. The applesauce, which came along with it was pink (orange?) in color but my sister said it tasted fine. My BIL ordered the two hot dog platter. The dogs were from Pearl Meat Packing. There is no Jewish deli in the Continental U.S. that serves hot dogs from this company. Big, big red flag and the taste was not good. The waitress (Jackie, I think), was absolutely terrific and provided superior service but could not even tell us if the dogs were all beef or a combo of both pork and beef. Any Jewish Deli should be serving all beef dogs. My sister and I had a corned beef and pastrami combo on rye. I had one bite and refused to eat any more. She at about a half of hers. The meat was tough, chewy and completely tasteless. The knishes were obviously frozen and microwaved and awful as well. When I asked about the worthless pickles, the waitress said they ran out of their regular pickles but failed mention it because she said she didn't think it mattered. I was expecting sours and half-sours but got dill pickles and not good ones either. This is a Jewish Deli for crying out loud. Pickles matter!!! To their credit, they took my sandwich off the bill and offered me a substitute dinner but I would not dare. I ordered a bottle of rasberry lime rickey which is their in-house brand. Tasted so sweet, it needed to be club soda'd down just to be able to drink it. All in all, I would have to say this may be the worst deli in the U.S. If you go there, go at your own peril but since taste is individual, make up your own mind. read more

I've been to zaftigs a few times, and on prior times I remember it being good, but i was very disappointed this past time. Very few vegetarian options and the ones they have aren't good. I ordered the mediterranean plate - i definitely would not recommend. The falafel was really tasteless and weird - i'd recommend they revisit the recipe. Also, I asked for it to be "over mixed greens" instead of pita and she gave me two pieces of lettuce (see picture). I recall the knishes not being stand out either. The hummus was the only thing that was good and worth eating, and the bagel chips (which they did not come to refill for a table of 4). I know its a Jewish deli, but I'd recommend adding a few more vegetarian options that aren't salad -- What about a vegetarian reuben? read more

Overall experience was good. They are busy during brunch time so plan accordingly, otherwise take out is a good option. We had the beef tongue sandwich and Eggs Benedict with salmon. The Eggs Benedict came with a really tasty potato pancake and home fries. However that is too much potato in one dish. I highly recommend substituting the home fries with something else, unless you really enjoy lots of potatoes! The Eggs Benedict was cooked just right, the smoked salmon portion was just enough, and the buttery hollandaise sauce complimented everything. The beef tongue sandwich was on mark. Many years ago when the original owners had this and it was in the old Shoppers World - which is what the old mall was called across the street - on the lower level and then moved to this location it was truly consistently good. But now... not so much. Those who don't know the difference may like it... but, it is a shadow of the quality and consistency it once was. If you don't expect a lot and are good with something not as good as you could make at home... and just want quick, easy, so you don't have to cook - then you may be very satisfied with this place. My husband and I visited Zaftigs for an easy Friday night dinner. It was our first time here and we were happy with the experience. We were seated very quickly and brought toasted bagels and spread on the House. We ordered the appetizer of potato pancakes and they were definitely our favorite part of our meal. They were thick and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sour cream and apple sauce on the side added subtle flavors. Both our main meals, a Rueben and a falafel wrap, were fine. Nothing to write home (or on Yelp) about, but it was definitely plenty of food and the fries were pretty good. We both took home leftovers. The atmosphere was friendly and family-oriented, and I loved the collection of art decorating the space. We'll be back soon! I really used to love Zaftigs but for some reason lately the food just disappoints. This evening I went to grab a bite with my aunt. The waitress was really friendly and helpful although she neglected to refill my water. My aunt and I both started with a bowl of matzo ball soup each. Soup for me was tasty and light, my aunt thought hers was a little too salty. I then ordered the latkes for my main. Now I have had these same latkes about 4 times before and this was nothing like I had tasted. The first issue was when i asked for no bacon but they still put bacon on. I sent it back. The second time they brought it out it looked way better. They were however not tasty at all. The skin was soggy and the inside of the potato had a strange taste, kinda like baking soda. I wasn't going to complain but the waiter asked me why I didn't eat it and I said it tasted weird. He then made it really awkward...so I said it's ok though it just didn't taste how it did before. He kind of made a weird joke and shrugged it off. At the end of the night the latkes were still on the bill. Needless to say I won't be going back. I feel like I gave it enough chances and it really just isn't for me. read more

I absolutely love Zaftigs! I have so many childhood memories eating the food in the comforting atmosphere. The chicken tenders and fries are unexpectedly some of the best I've ever had, and can say the same thing for the delicious baked mac and cheese covered in breadcrumbs. The bagel chips are also so comforting and nice to have at the table during breakfast time. The Jewish deli atmosphere is so comforting as well and the latkes are just as delicious. I've always been a fan of Zaftigs for their deli menu, but, I have to say I was really disappointed by my recent visit for breakfast. I ordered corned beef hash, which, should have been great, but, it wasn't edible to my palate. It was extremely mushy and it had peppers in it which I wish I knew ahead of time. Plus, the serving was ridiculously small. I did like the home fries and the eggs were properly cooked. Just really disappointed in the hash I'm sorry to say. read more

We were there on a Sunday an hour before closing and service was fine. Ambiance is Jewish deli fine; lots of interesting paintings on the walls. Granddaughter loved her bagel with nova--loved it--and it did look fantastic. All parts were excellent, the bagel, cream cheese, salmon, etc. The corned beef and pastrami also excellent, with soft rye bread. I hate when restaurants use sourdough which has a tough crust and would be better eaten on its own with butter or for French toast perhaps....on top of onion soup...etc. I think they use it so they can get away with very little inside; you're too busy chewing the bread alone...and then you fill up with bread. Sides of hash, potato salad and coleslaw were not up to the standards of the meats. Hash is a simple dish, just three ingredients. When chefs try to make their recipes "signature" dishes by adding extraneous stuff which unbalances the dish, the diners lose. Their coleslaw is very dry, which is okay when it's added to a sandwich, but it would stay connected better if it were more finely chopped. You wouldn't want to eat it by itself. We will return, as I'm sure there are many more good dishes to try. read more

The original Zaftig's in Coolidge Corner was a go-to date spot for me when I was in college. The food and service was good and the prices were reasonable. The ambiance was great as well. Now there is a Natick location. The Brookline location is a bit toney, this location is a bit townie - a little bit more, "how ah ya, ta-night" Boston drawl. That said, they still great you with a plate of excellent bagel chips with some type of herb spread / cream cheesey stuff. We ordered sandwiches - mine was a juicy grilled chicken sandwich on a soft onion roll. I also got the chocolate cake, like old times. It is a thick slab of delicious, dense chocolate layer cake served with whipped cream and a sliced strawberry. The service at this location was good. The only complaint I have is that it was way too bright in there. The lighting in their other store is less intense, creating better ambiance. The lighting in here is McDonald's bright. Overall, I am glad I found this location as the food and service is good and it isn't very expensive, either. read more

Lately we have been ordering from here for work meetings. Their sandwiches are huge - and well they should be for some of the prices they charge - but their meats are lacking in the flavor. I had the New Yorker today which was massive but the corned beef and pastrami, although they were super lean, had no flavor at all. Their bread is always fresh and very soft. Their potato salad is the best potato salad I have ever had. They do deliver for corporate orders for a $25 fee but do not always have the staff to accommodate the request. read more
