Such a simple place that reminds me of the cafeterias near my university back home. The food is absolutely delicious. I had the gyro plate, and it was so good. Their portions are huge, so I ended up taking the rest home for tomorrow's lunch. The lady who helped me the last few times, Najwa, is such a sweetheart. The ambiance is super casual and chill -- nothing fancy, but very relaxing, especially when you get hit by the amazing smell of the food. Zaina is located at the former location of Bus Stop Espresso (8th Ave NE & NE 65th St), near the Roosevelt Park and Ride. Their long time other location is in Wedgwood. The Homie and I stopped in to check it out (10/15/24) and placed an order for baklava and lamb gyros fries. Baklava is sizable but nothing extraordinary. However, the lamb gyros fries are very flavorful and generous. The usual spot with a similar menu item in the UDistrict slightly edges them out. Great location at a major throughfare, bus routes, and close to the light rail. Parking is available surrounding the building or via nearby street parking. Decent selection of eats and bevs for onsite or takeout dining. read more

Torn between 3 and 4 stars. But going with 3 due to my last service/health experience. I've been here three times. I think I've gotten the falafel sandwich or platter all the times. The falafel and food is VERY GOOD . Some of the best falafel I've had in the US. But the service is lacking and it's expensive. The first time I came, they just opened and it was a total mess and took forever to get our food. I decided to give them slack and try again. The second time it was very fast and easy for takeout. Only negatives were that a drink and to go sandwich was over $20 and I weirdly had to type in the payment myself to the machine. The third time was a similar experience, except the same worker was the cashier and sandwich maker while another person was just sweeping the floor. They pressed buttons on the payment machine then continued to make my sandwich while wearing the same gloves. Tbh, I was grossed out and regret not saying something. Pretty sure that's a health code violation. Sandwich was good though and I tried not to think too hard but it grosses me out still. This place has a lot of potential since the food is good and it's a convenient location but needs some work on service and layout. Honestly they might just need a third employee who works the cashier so customers don't handle the payment and employees don't make the food and check out simultaneously. Also the condiment station is weird cause the employees use it for making the sandwich but it's also accessible to customers and I keep mistaking the sandwich wrappers for napkins. This location has only been open for a few months so far, but you can tell that the locally owned business has a lot of heart. Ordered a classic gyro and the guy taking my order was so friendly and kind since it wasn't very busy inside. My total came out to $17 which was a little pricier than expected, but the gyro was stuffed full and seasoned well. read more

I've gotta be honest, I kind of miss Bus Stop Espresso, which used to be at this location. HOWEVER, the food here was good, no complaints. I just prefer gyros over these Shawarma/gyro things. Again, it tasted fine, but I preferred the Greek seasoning in the meat. I hope they do well, I'll likely come back. Also, just an observation, the coloring on the exterior of the store reminds me of a circus tent. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but it doesn't fit the middle eastern theme in my opinion. Really great local Mediterranean restaurant! The staff are very friendly and the food is great. Portions are generous and everything is prepared fresh. They also sell teas, olive oils and other goods inside. There's some bar seating inside and a few tables outside, so this is more of a take-out location. But it's located very conveniently, close to both the Roosevelt Link station and the Greenlake Park and Ride. Highly recommend! read more

I don't know... this place just isn't for me. Ordered the Gyro plate with beef and the beef wasn't good. It felt overly soft like it was cooked from a pressure cooker but it also lacked flavor. It also wasn't thinly sliced like I'm used to. They were more like chunks... Parsley were also clustered and I had a very unbalanced, bitter bite. Service seems to struggle too with a team of 2 on a Friday evening. My partner saw someone leaving without ordering anything because the team was all too busy in the kitchen. Staff are friendly and the food is delicious! The falafel sandwich and fried cauliflower & eggplant side are vegan, among others. Several mains and sides are vegetarian, including the falafel sandwich and plate as well as the hummus and fried cauliflower sides. Some items are clearly labeled plant-based and staff confirmed they were dairy-free and vegan. Symbols or labels to identify vegan or vegetarian options on the menu would be welcome. Prices are on par with the neighborhood, and the blend of interior and outdoor seating offers nice options. We came away pleased with the selection and happy with the food as well as our rich, honey-filled dessert pastry and glass of mint tea. read more

Poor Service and over charged. I purchased regular fries and baklava and got charged $19. I told Her she overcharged and she refunded $2. Also the lady was mopping in between making the fries and didn't take the dirty gloves off while checking on the fries. I had to ask her to take them off when she finished mopping. Oh Zaina, I was so excited to give you a try after waiting so long for you to open this location. I am horribly disappointed. this wasn't just bad. It was a horrible fail, there were two people working in the restaurant, nothing that we ordered was cooked, we got the gyro plate and the spanakopita with the chocolate baklava. Firstly, the meat: It had the texture of a gummy bear, cut into small chunks and very lukewarm too cool. It was on top of a bed of greasy flavorless, rice and doused with "tatziki". There is no spit of meat cooking. They took this meat from a cool container and microwaved it. The spanakopita was also microwaved in front of us. The pita bread was burnt to a crisp on one side and hard as a rock. To add insult to injury, for this meal to be over $40, the baklava wasn't even good. It just tasted like sugar, no flavor of nuts. Obviously, we got takeout because it's like sitting in a big fishbowl, there is no seating other than a counter. I've never been so regretful of lunch choice in my life, and if you look at my history, I only leave good reviews. This business needs to do better and cook hot fresh food.
