A great place for comedy. If you love to laugh, you need to visit Zanies.

Great place to see some live entertainment for cheap. The venue is very small and intimate which makes you feel like your part of the show. There is typically a 2 item minimum purchase requirement with purchase of a ticket which isn't if you plan on eating there on a night out. However, don't plan on upscale dining, its just simple bar food. They are however really good about texting information about upcoming acts and ticket sales. They bring in top names from the comedy industry at a decent price. A great place for a laugh and a place to visit for a change of pace! read more

The parking sucks, the bartenders refuse to smile or make eye contact, and they apparently forgot how to make a Grateful Dead when they took it off the menu. I came to see Sheryl Underwood for a late night show on a Friday. It did not start on time so be prepared and I think this is just to be expected with comedy shows. Comedians want to give a great show and usually go over in my experience. So you wait in line for the doors to open and pick your seat because it is open seating. When the doors open there will be a long line already so plan in advance to be there to claim a spot in line. There are a variety of seating options: upstairs or downstairs, bar stools or chairs, four top or two top. Once seated you order something for the two item minimum so either drinks or food. I recommend coming here for the drinks because the food selection is limited. Nearly everything is deep fried except the hummus. I ordered mozzarella sticks and a drink which were both forgettable. I do enjoy the intimacy of the setting and the variety of acts offered. Come for the laughs not the food and you'll be set. read more

No lot, you have to walk 2-3 blocks and it's not the best neighborhood - I have to really want to see the act, would most likely stay away otherwise because of that one thing! read more

Great comedy show location in Nashville. I like that there isn't assigned seating so you can get a front row seat for the same price as being in the back of the room, you just have to show up early. First time: After spending $100 on tix and another $150 on 3 rounds, we received the worst service I have EVER gotten, trips to Europe included. The venue was freezing cold, the place was dead, the server was rude as hell, the bouncer or whatever kept coming over and telling us to be quite. Now the "loud" person is 1 of the most soft spoken people I know, he was on one side of me, leaning across me to talk to the person on the other side, who couldn't even hear him. Upon complaining to the manager we were told his voice carried up to the 3rd floor; ummmmm I only saw one floor and a balcony, which no one was sitting in. We were almost attacked by 3 or 4 staff members wanting to know "what the he'll are y'all doin" when we went out to have a cigarette. Call me crazy but when Im Ready to have a good time, being locked in room where there's no talking, smiling or having fun and I have to beg some Aholes who are rude to me to take my $ sounds more like a time out. Boo Second time: Just don't go here. Now I really remember why I said I would never go here again. Once agian, dead (having advertised to give away 200 tickets). Once agian, told twice to stop talking, be quite. You would think I was a loud person or something but, no. I am terribly soft spoken and have spent half my life in speech therapy about it, which is why I speak w/ my hands. Sorry to disappoint but, no I am not Italian, just quite. It actually was enjoyable the second time around just because I found it so hysterical that I had the exact same experceince six months before. Once agian, horrible service, horrible, overpriced drinks, horrible mangement. I just can't think of anything else at this type of venue that one could possibly f*ck up. I enjoyed the Donnel Rawlings show last night. My cheeks hurt because I was laughing so hard. The wings were great but the staff is so so. We were one of the first people to order our food and didn't even receive our ticket to pay until the show was over. She forgot about us. Improve the staff and they would get a 5 for sure. read more

Came to Zanies for the "Out the Yazoo" (amateur night). The tickets were only $10 originally & then, I actually found a promo code online for 50% off so that made the deal even sweeter! My friend & I were not in the mood to drink (alcohol) but we did order food- we got nachos & they were less than desirable. Super greasy & just really not any good. But, we came for the comedy & not the food so we weren't expecting too much in that department. The comedy was great! Even though they were amateurs, they did a great job! I'm usually not that entertained by most comedians but I was laughing damn near the whole time! But then, we got the check, $28 for 2 sodas & an order of nachos. BUT, they charge for refills so the 2 sodas at 3 bucks a pop turned into 4 sodas for a total of 12 bucks! And, we were not warned in advance that refills were extra! As if that wasn't bad enough, the waitress tried to pocket some of my change! She claimed it was an accident but her attitude from the time we told her we wouldn't be drinking alcohol really told me that it was no accident! I think she thought she wouldn't be getting much of a tip so she was going to see to it that she did! Not cool! She did end up giving me the 5 bucks she shorted me after I confronted her about it... But I'm quite sure it was no accident! All in all, I'll return to Zanies again because I am a native Nashvillean & it's the only comedy club here but I won't be ordering food & I won't be served by that same waitress! It's amazing that Zanies gets such tremendous talent on a regular basis. Unfortunately, that's the only positive part of the experience. We attended a 9 pm show, and were told that the doors would open at 8:30. Because we knew there would be a line, we arrived at 7:30, and still had to scramble to find legal parking. The doors to the 9 pm show didn't open until 9:30, and the show didn't get started until about 9:45, so we were waiting in line about 2.25 hours. Thankfully, the weather was pleasant. Because we'd arrived early, we were at about the tenth spot in line, yet when we were brought in to be seated, the place was already nearly full. I wish I had known you could pay extra or buddy up with an employee to get pre-opening seats. Not that it would have helped, as we were so tightly packed into the room that it would've been near impossible to exit the place if, say, a fire had broken out. We were given two uncomfortable, thrift-store metal chairs to sit on, which faced away from our table (toward the stage), so we couldn't even use the table at all. We had been seated in the aisle because there was no other room in the place, and the waitresses were pushing past us all night as they made their rounds, forcing us to basically stand and re-seat ourselves every time they came by. To call the food "bar food" is an insult to bar food. With the two-item minimum that is in effect, you will have to buy two items of either greasy, terrible food, watery sodas, or secretly and shockingly overpriced drinks. The show was amazing, but we were too distracted by the dense crowding, the greasy, sleazy atmosphere, and the terrible food. Unless your very favorite comic is in town, avoid this place at all costs. And if you do go, eat something prior and dump the food you're required to order. Oh, and make sure you're pals with a manager so you can get good seating. read more

This place is unreal. The tickets say we can go it at 8:45, it's 9:10 and we are still standing in line outside. After driving an hour and a half to get here, this is not acceptable. My friend had to ask to go inside to use the restroom, and the wait staff is just huddled, waiting. No one is cleaning, no one is doing anything. Not cool. read more

We are pretty lucky to have a Zanies here in Nashville. Comics from all over the globe come to Zanies to perform and its actually a pretty good venue. We got there about an hour early and got great seats on a Saturday night. I'm not sure about the food cause we just had chips, but they seemed to have pretty fair bar food. The only downside is that they have a 2 item minimum. It doesn't have to be drinks, but each person has to buy two things...on top of the ticket fee. Oh well. Our show was worth it. All shows are smoke-free now, so you don't have to go to an earlier show just to avoid the smoke. If you get on their email list, they send out some amazing deals, like 2-for-1 or $5 tickets. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Went to Zanies on a girl's trip to Nashville. The opening act was funny and I wish she had been the main act. The main act, Rod Man was not only not funny, we could barely hear most of his act because he mumbled and didn't project and apparently it was as high as the sound system went. The comedian Clayton English was hilarious. Two of us out of our group are pregnant so we were surprised when we found out about the two item minimal purchase. We were pressured to order virgin daiquiris (which were not good at all). The daiquiris consisted of drink mix poured over ice. Also, I didn't enjoy that the workers were like hawks watching the crowd for any little thing they did wrong, whether it be looking at their cell phone or saying something to the comedian. Went there to see Maria Bamford and she was excellent. A little disappointed in the two warm up acts before her but since I was there to see her I didn't sweat it. Which was a disappointment was the atmosphere of the club. Okay, it's a comedy club but the place could really use a good sprucing up as it did not appear to be very clean. The menu is best described as fried. Really feel as they're missing the boat by not have a better fare as they would probably pull in a dinner audience prior to the show as not many people ordered food while we were there for the show. As far as the intimacy of the club, it worked well. Oh, almost forgot, the table we sat at needed to be screwed down to it's pedestal as each time we leaned on it, it would begin to swivel. You'd think that a server or manager would have noticed that at some point and taken the 2 minutes to put in one screw which would have alleviated the problem. This is a great club to get some food, a few beers, and tons of laughs! You should arrive about 30 minutes to an hour before the show you are seeing to make sure you get good seats! I can see how this place could fill up fast. They have a wide variety of mixed drinks as well as a good selection of domestic beers too. If you like tequila, they have a larger selection as well. The menu is reasonably priced and they give large portions! The fried pickles are great as are the mozz sticks. They do have 18% gratuity already included in the check but I don't think that should bother you. You're there to see the show, not have to worry about tripping and interrupting the routine on stage because you want a drink! The service staff is working hard! They have a 2 item minimum because the admission price goes straight to the performer(s) and the club makes their revenues off of the food/drinks. They have the cheapest beers I've seen in Nashville so it won't be hard to reach the minimum. Bottom line, I'd come see another show here. read more

I have been to Zanies many times and the experience is consistent. The comedy is good, I go when they have comics that I want to see, therefore I always enjoy the comedy. It is much like other comedy clubs, the food is bar food, nothing more, nothing less. I enjoy the drinks, always made to an acceptable standard. I would suggest getting to Zanies early, so that you can face the stage. It is pretty cramped and if you have to turn to see the stage, it can be uncomfortable. read more

Was here for Margaret Cho. Hadn't been to Zanie's in a long time, (Jackie Mason) and was lucky enough to get a great table, having arrived about 40 min. early. Kudos on the fish sandwich. Some friends and I attended the John Witherspoon show on March 12th. We drove up from Huntsville, AL to celebrate my bday weekend. Earlier that week, only 4 out of our group of 6 were able to get tickets online so we had to call directly to inquire about more tickets since we were riding all together and couldn't separate. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because they did help us get 2 more tickets but even that was after 2 days of staff not returning our calls. The night we got there, we had just come from dinner and weren't aware of the MANDATORY rule of every person having to purchase at least 2 items from the menu. When I told the staff I didn't want anything, they said I had to buy something and charged me for 2 bottles of water @ $3.50 ea AND every ticket has an 18% gratuity that's automatically charged! We sat upstairs and it was packed so it was difficult to see. They did have screens installed for this issue but the one on our side stopped working right as the show started so I couldn't see a thing. On top of that, it was raining cats and dogs before the show so the patrons standing in line outside got soaked as they were having some type of technical difficulties and wouldn't open the doors. I was truly disappointed with this visit. I think it's ridiculous to force ppl to pay for additional food/drinks after paying to come to the show in the first place. This one is off my list of Nashville places to visit. read more

My first time to Zanies, wasn't sure what to expect but had high expectations because it's Nashville, right? The city is known to attract a lot of tourists and I expected it to accommodate such. Seating was super crowded and inconvenient. They put us in front of a table that seated four but literally only had room for two. Drink menu did not have prices listed, we figured it was just moderate prices ($6-8) for a drink. Noticed that an 18% gratuity was to be included on our tab. No biggie, service must be great. WRONG! We were seated 15 minutes before our waitress got our drink order and 15 after that before she came back with it. We then tried to order but she held up her finger and went off and we didn't see her until the show already started 30 minutes later. She brought us our food and that was it. We saw her a total of 4 times in 2.5 hrs. Our tab came and the drinks cost more than our food at a $12 per drink ring up. Then with two dinners and an appetizer our bill was $65ish. But don't forget the $10 gratuity that we could not escape from and definitely would not have tipped our horrible waitress. The show was great but Zanies sucked. read more

I recently took my first trip to Zanies Comedy Club to see Michael Ian Black. I was amazed at the size of the place, especially from what it looks like outside. Is it just me or does it look tiny before you walk in? When you go in, you give them your name for your tickets and then they seat you. We were about 100 people from the front of the line but still managed to nab seats on the lower level. We had a large group of 8, and they sat us in a tweed orange booth in the corner. A few things to know, there is a 2 item minimum at Zanies. You must by at least 2 things. Depending on the show, our waiter was a little late to get out orders, but was very efficient considering there were 8 of us all ordering food and drinks. The host was okay, not outrageously funny and mostly self-depricating humor, but of course the stars of the show were hilarious. Pay attention to where you park. And helpful tip, the day of a show, check out their twitter account. I got these tickets for $7 while my friends paid $20. read more

Last night was the first time I have been to Zanies in almost 10 years! Yikes! We went to see the comedian John Pinette and we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt! He was great! The venue itself is a nice little cozy place. It could definitely use some updating. We sat in a booth which was actually really uncomfortable. There was something lumpy in the seat. We did eat there and the food was ok....just like someone else said mostly all fried food. I'm sure it's all frozen and not fresh, but it still had a good taste and not to expensive. They had a pretty fair selection of beer and domestic was $3.75. There is the 2 item minimum. Our server we had was really good and came by frequently to see if we needed refills on our coke or coffee. She was slammed since it was a full house...they do add on gratuity automatically, but I think it was only 15 or 18%. I ended up giving our server more because she was really on top of her game. We had a great night and definitely look forward to going back! read more

So you definitely don't go here for the food or quick service - you go to laugh - A LOT! It's a little out of the downtown area but a quick and cheap cab ride. The food is basically deep fried cheese, chicken, etc and everybody is herded in and out like cattle but once the entertainment starts you won't care. We saw Jo Koy and laughed so hard I cried and was gasping for air. You have to wait outside in line before the doors open but seating is first come, first serve, so it's worth standing in line to wait. read more
