A cute neighborhood spot in Ravenna with lots of comfortable seating, a view of cars and people walking by, ample street parking with a wide berth, a variety of beautifully displayed sweet and savory menu items and a nice assortment of drink offerings. Service was efficient although not overly engaging, but everything tasted delicious. Great lamination without overly sweet coatings or fillings. Well balanced flavors and textures while maintaining a unique flavor profile in each seemingly similarly filled items. No small feat there! read more

I ordered a Pain au Chocolat, Nutella Cruffin, and a Blackberry Cream Cheese Danish. We had grabbed breakfast at Mas Cafe before heading here, so I didn't get too many items. what an amazing find by the friend who brought us! I'm a huge sucker for coffee, croissants, and crispy sandwiches, all that. This place is heaven! the drinks are delicious, the food is freshly made and there's such a huge selection for whatever palate tickles your fancy that day. The tuna sandwich I got along with the mango pastry made for such a tasty meal. The Matcha latte is also not too sweet, which is the main thing that I get scared of, but everyone was extremely happy with their food and the croissant sandwiches from what I tasted were also gas. We chatted a bit longer and pushed up against their closing time, and I did really appreciate that they didn't start packing up while we were still in the store. i will 200% be back! yum! read more

Pros: Baked goods and drinks are delicious although pricey - this is Seattle. I like that they have creative drinks. I have not seen before such as an Earl Grey tea drink with cold foam. Cons: Atmosphere and service was questionable, chicken salad croissant sandwiches were made earlier in the day so apparently you cannot order one fresh, which would be easy with something like a chicken salad which just needs to be applied to the croissant. read more

The coffee paired well with everything, and the seating area by the windows created a comfortable place to relax for a while. Overall, the food quality was very good and I enjoyed my order. There are two benchmark pastries I look at whenever I go to a new patisserie - the almond croissant and the kouign amann. At Zary Bakery, they both didn't look that great, with the almond croissant being strangely flat, as if the pastry chef purposefully smashed it down, and the kouign amann sprawling out into a wide disk instead of being more muffin shaped. Just because they look a bit strange doesn't mean they are bad, but I decided instead to purchase some other items that seemed more interesting. Palmier ($5.40) - This palmier is exceptionally fragrant with the smell of butter wafting into the nose with every bite. It has a fantastically flaky crunch factor on the edges, transitioning to a softer and more chewy section on the interior. This is thicker than most palmiers I've seen, resulting in the interior especially being softer, more buttery, and less sweet. Overall, this pastry isn't as sweet as most palmiers I've had. The sugar glaze isn't applied too thickly, so it doesn't help glue the layers together, resulting in an exceptionally flaky dessert that doesn't gum up the teeth while chewing. (4/5) Kentucky Butter Cake ($6.35) - I haven't had this cake before, and doing more research, apparently it comes from Missouri rather than Kentucky? At any rate, this mini bundt cake looked delicious in the pictures and quickly became something we had to pick up on our visit. This is essentially a slightly richer version of a prototypical yellow cake, with vanilla flavoring and some warming spices added for oomph. It's not quite to the density or nearly as buttery as a pound cake, but kind of rests in that area between. The crumb is quite moist and the taste isn't too sweet. I read that there's usually a sugar and butter glaze poured on top, but I don't think they incorporate that aspect here at Zary. (4/5) I also ordered a TGTG bag with day old pastries, which included: French Butter Croissant ($5.25) - The croissant is buttery, decently flaky, and baked until a lighter golden brown, although due to being day old, there's not really any crust to speak of. It has a great honeycomb structure on the interior, making it well risen, light and airy. The croissant would make a great base for a sandwich and is perfectly enjoyable to eat by itself. Caramel S'Mores Croissant ($6.50) - Even though this is labeled as a croissant, it's more of a cruffin based on the shape of the pastry. Chocolate dipped caramel pretzel graces the top, adding a salty and sweet crunch. Inside the pastry is a kind of a cream cheese-like sweet and slightly tangy filling. It's a more substantial and richer version of marshmallow fluff with a more complex flavor than just pure sweetness. M&M and Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3.50) - The cookie is sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, with plenty of chocolate and M&Ms. Since it was day old, it's hardened up a bit, but still easy to eat. I did find a kind of acrid bitter taste in the dough, which reminds me of baking soda. I'm not 100% sure what that flavor is from, but it made the cookie the least enjoyable dessert, at least for me. Of course, it's not fair to rate a bakery based on the day old items, so I will refrain from factoring these into my rating. Overall Zary is a pretty solid bakery. They serve some interesting pastries and the wide variety makes repeat visits easy to foresee. read more

I've had time and perspective to genuinely review this bakery. This bakery is not only beautiful inside, they produce beautiful and delicious pastries and baked goods. The cinnamon roll was one of the best I've tasted. It's just the right size and perfectly frosted. The flavor of the cinnamon is just right and doesn't taste of mass produced flavorings that many cinnamon rolls taste like. The roll is moist and not one bite was dry. That's how I judge a good pastry; no dry bites! I've also tried a few Kentucky varieties of Kentucky cake. One was on the dry side but the other was moist with a few blueberries. I tasted a hint of cardamom which is different but in a good way. I will definitely keep this bakery on our list of repeat visits. If you are fortunate to be near this bakery, you need to try something delicious fast!! If you're visiting, make this a definite stop!! read more

All of the food was lovely. Unfortunately my order got missed and I had to ask about it to get it going, so I ended up missing my bus. They did give me a free bakery item as an apology for the communication mishap, which I appreciated. I know these things can happen and they were very apologetic so I would come back, especially for the potato croissant! I wanted to place a quick pickup order so within the YELP app, I clicked on START ORDER and saw that you can place an order inside the YELP platform. I also saw that the ordering process was powered by Grubhub. Since I wanted to be able to use my own Grubhub account, I used the Grubhub app instead and ordered the following: 1 Almond Croissant $7.10 1 Almond Pear Croissant $7.10 1 Kentucky Butter Cake $7.10 1 Kentucky Butter Cake with Blueberries $7.20 1 Kouign-amann $6.85 2 Kouign-amann $13.70 I went into the store at the estimated pickup time per Grubhub and they didn't know about order. They asked what delivery app I used and I had to tell them I used Grubhub. And then they must have activated something because at that moment, I got a text notification that my Grubhub order has been received and a new pickup time was given. Not smooth but not a biggie. Took the pastries home and found that for my almond pear croissant, they automatically substituted it with Blackberry Cream Cheese Danish and the its packaging had a handwritten note "sorry, out of almond pear." Since I was waiting inside the store, I am puzzled why they weren't able to notify me and perhaps ask me what I would like instead. Other than these issues, the pastries were very tasty. Easily the best French bakery in the city. I happened upon this place when picking up a bagel order next door, and I am glad I did. Everything looks amazing. Everything is fresh. I took two large boxes away, and every piece has been outstanding. The palmiers are the best we've ever had. Period. Croissants are divine. So are the other classic French items, including savory items. But they also have superb American-style scones, and I LOVE an excellent scone. These are they. And the rare Kentucky Butter Cake. I ordered the mango Cruffin (croissant muffin), a cinnamon roll, and a danish. They were flaky and the custard/cream filling in the Cruffin had a sweet, yet not overpowering, flavor. It has indoor and outdoor seating but no AC, yet the ovens are blasting, so it gets quite hot inside the bakery. They keep the windows open but it did not help much. Service was extremely slow and the barista/staff looked like she hated being there. Best chocolate croissant I've had in Seattle. I've struggled to find really solid croissants and pastries in seattle and I am so happy I found this gem. It is 100 percent worth the visit to try one of their pastries. Their ham and cheese croissant is A+. Let's stop eating at Starbucks for breakfast and support a local bakery!! It's the same price at this point. The way their croissants are so perfectly laminated- so flaky and crispy and soft and lightly buttery on the inside. You can literally see each beautiful layer, they're so good!!! I am truly so impressed by their croissants and the size of them. This place stands out with its unique selection of pasteries and drinks. One of the more popular picks is the raspberry top tart which is basically a better, homemade poptart. Their special drinks are from the "spring menu" that seems to go on year-round. The flora forager is FANTASTIC and very unique to this cafe - tastes like a rose coffee with hidden flavors (yes, its a coffee). I would classify this as a neighborhood bakery. As such, you see mostly people stopping by after a walk, a casual get-together, after picking up kids from school/daycare. As a former Ravenna resident, I have seen this place morph from Morningstar Bakery, Leah's Bakery & Cafe, Sod House Bakery, and now the newish Zary Bakery. My first visit was on 10/2/23 where I got a box containing a pain au chocolat, strawberry cream croissant, scone, and a raspberry pseudo pop-tart. My second visit was on 10/28/23 where I bought a chocolate hazelnut tart and another raspberry pseudo pop-tart. My overall sentiment is positive. I love the beautifully arranged variety of baked goods in the pastry case. Great price for the generous sized items. Looks good, but tastes even better. Clearly there's baking with love going on. First visit, Zary Bakery was still brand new and with ample room to consider one's purchase. Second visit, clearly the bakeshop/cafe has been discovered with the line of folks. On a family trip from Seattle to Victoria, BC, we made a spontaneous stop at Zary Bakery, and it was one of the best decisions we made! We purchased 6 different pastries and took them home. Not far mind you. Got them home and what a disappointment. They were dry and one was dry and had a hint of being bitter like burnt. They were not as we expected but rather like next day pastries that sat out all day and we just bought them. Only thing was we felt very unwelcome here, the staff said no words to us, simply stared at us, gesturing to the screen for the price, and waving in our direction to indicate the drink was ready. Zary Bakery has the absolute BEST Quiche Lorraine in Seattle. I have tried Quiche Lorraine from many restaurants and Macrina Bakery and hands down, Zary makes the best quiche lorraine. The crust is hand made, buttery, flaky, moist and the perfect proportion to the filling. The filling is well balanced between egg, milk, cheese and bacon with none of the ingredients overpowering the other. It is not greasy or runny (like some other quiches). First I want to note how great the service was here. We went on a Saturday morning and it was definitely busy, but we ordered two lattes and they were out in minutes. The women behind the counter were definitely working hard! Both lattes (fall spice and smores) were some of the best I've had in Seattle. They were flavored without being overwhelming. We shared the sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and the zucchini feta croissant. Both were amazing. The SEC croissant had a hefty sausage - it was definitely filling. ZARY is definitely small. There's probably under 10 tables so it gets pretty cramped. It also gets really warm from the ovens - they did keep the windows open when we were there (when it was 50 out), which helped but it was still pretty toasty. read more
