    Mmm mmmm good

Finger licking good. Was a bit of a drive getting off the Hwy. Drove threw and was out in less then 2 min.

Tater chips and Buffalo Fingerz (tossed in Hot Honey Mustard). Dip each of these into Ranch for a good time.

This is an obligatory review from Zaxby's biggest fan. I can (and may) post this review about each location I visit, simply because the truth is relevant to every location. The food is the same no matter which Zaxby's you visit, even though the service or prices might vary slightly. If you are a beginner to Zaxby's, I strongly recommend that you get something like a "Big Zax Snack" or something with regular chicken tenders and some sides. You should definitely be dipping your chicken into Zax sauce. It will change your life. If you're a ranch fan, that would also be a wise choice, but do NOT pass up on the chance to try (and fall in love with) Zax sauce. Zaxby's is all about the sauce! Now, as for my favorites, my "usual" typically includes Hot Honey Mustard fingers (ordered as "Buffalo Fingers, hot honey mustard"). The Hot Honey Mustard is not spicy, but does have a "zing" to it. It is not like any honey mustard you have had before. Chicken fingers tossed in this sauce are like heaven, yet I still will sometimes dip these into ranch, for a sauce combo punch! It's not crazy, as you will sense later. I also have a great love for the "Tater Chips". I love them best when they are "semi-floppy", and not all the way crispy, but they are still amazing no matter the texture. Dip these bad boys in a sauce of your choosing, but I tend to prefer Ranch :) . Another good choice is the "Kickin Chicken Sandwich". Normally I'm not a sandwich fan, as this is a chicken place, the focus should be on the chicken. Well, there is nothing new with this sandwich, because it's basically composed of the "Texas Toast" with some tenders, with a combo of two sauces (Tongue Torch and Ranch by default). It is customizable with whatever two sauces you want, but the default is good too (think hot wings + ranch). This sandwich is terrible for you, I'm sure, since it's super greasy toast, with chicken and two sauces, but OH MAN it is good. Now, no review would be complete without the downside. There is of course the "downside" that you will become addicted to Zaxby's, and you will end up turning over many a paycheck to these guys, but all deserved for sure. There are some things at Zaxby's that I don't eat, just because. When you order "buffalo fingers", you can choose your sauce to toss them in, these are conventionally served with celery. If I order this online, I have them hold the celery (I don't want it, so you can keep it). I do not eat Zaxby's "bone-in" wings because their chicken tenders are WAY better. I also do not eat the "boneless wings". This is a somewhat newer addition to the Zaxby's menu, but are not as good as the tenders. Do yourself a favor, and stick to the good stuff: Chicken fingerz, buffalo fingerz (hot honey mustard being the best), some Texas Toast, fries, tater chips, mushrooms, or Kickin Chicken Sandwich. My dad loves the slaw so much, he has been known to go through the drive thru JUST for the slaw. I have gone through just for the sauces.

I was drawn to Zaxby's by the very stoic looking chicken gracing its sign on 12th Street in Ogden following a taxing day of skiing. Who can say no to a stoic chicken in circumstances like that? Turns out Zaxby's is a chain, started in Georgia. They sell chicken in its most common forms -- fingerz (the "z" makes them unique), wingz (the breaded kind, either boneless or "traditional"), sandwiches, and on top of salads (grilled, blackened, or breaded). (They also have appetizers, like fried mushrooms, pickles, and "fried white cheddar bites" that all looked pretty good, but didn't make it onto my plate.) I tried the fingerz platter with fries and slaw, with Zaxby's sauce. The fingers themselves were quite good-- freshly fried, with crispy bredding. I'm not sure that they're appreciably tastier than the average quick-service restaurant's chicken fingers, but they're not bad. The fries are the thick, crinkle-cut variety, but dusted with a little bit of seasoning. The slaw was inedible, tasting of refrigerator and stale cabbage tears. One of the ways that chicken restaurants can differentiate themselves is through sauce, and Zaxby's certainly does. The "Zaxby's sauce" feels more Caribbean/Louisiana than Georgia to me, with cajun and jerk spices floating in a pretty thick mayonnaise, with some black pepper notes for fun. It's not a sauce I'll crave for the rest of my life, but it had a nice zing and complimented the chicken and the fries well. Since the other mainstay at Zaxby's appears to be wings, I thought I'd better try some wing sauce. The woman behind the counter was very nice to provide a complimentary container of "Tongue Torch" to me. Though the graphics that dot the restaurant make it seem like a hot sauce, it's actually listed as their "medium" wing sauce. I liked it. Less buffalo and more vinegar+black pepper, it had a nice bite at the beginning and a mild, slow burn as I dipped into it more. It's not out-of-this-world, but compares favorably with other hot sauces, and it a little unique to boot. Zaxby's claims it is one of the first fast-casual restaurant chains, but it tends a little bit closer to the "fast" than the "casual." The booths and tables are comfortable, but the atmosphere just seemed a bit more cheesy and a little less refined than, say, a Chipotle. Plus, the prices pushed the fast food limit. My meal (5 fingers, fries, slaw, no drink) was about 8 bucks, which is not bad, but to charge more than a buck a wing seems a little excessive. Three more plusses--they have the magical Coke machine that lets you get more than 100 soda combinations; they have to TVs which, at the time, were showing the NFL playoffs with the sound on (though competing with some light pop music); and the servers were really friendly. One minus--the temperature was really hot-- I'm guessing it was 78 degrees or more. An overall decent place, and not bad to get your chicken fix (a particularly good alternative to chik-fil-a if your politics gets in the way of your fast food), but I think I'd choose any of the local (Wingerz) or even chain (Buffalo Wild Wings) options if I really wanted wings. 3.5 stars, lowered to 3 because of the sweltering indoor temps.

I've never felt compelled to leave a public review of a restaurant before, but after multiple disappointing visits, I genuinely hope this one improves. That's why I'm leaving two stars instead of one: there's potential here, and I'd like to see it realized. Unfortunately, I don't plan on returning until significant changes are made in the kitchen. The one consistently positive aspect has been the service. Every visit, the front-of-house staff has been welcoming, attentive, and professional. They deserve recognition because they elevated an otherwise disappointing dining experience. The food, however, has repeatedly failed to justify its premium pricing. On one visit, the beurre blanc was served cold, leaving it heavy and unpleasant rather than rich and velvety. The forest herb pasta arrived garnished with two paper-thin slivers of what tasted like canned truffle, which felt more like an afterthought than a luxury ingredient. Nearly every dish was covered with oddly dyed edible flowers that added nothing to the flavor and often distracted from the plate itself. Another visit featured a halibut special topped with potato "scales." The concept was interesting, but the execution wasn't there. The potatoes were cut far too thick and weren't evenly layered across the fish, resulting in an awkward texture and uneven cooking. Properly blanching the potato slices beforehand would have made them more pliable and helped achieve the delicate scale effect the dish was clearly aiming for. I've also experienced overcooked lamb, bland seasoning, and dishes that lacked the depth and refinement you'd expect at this price point. Across multiple meals, the cooking has felt inconsistent, and too often the presentation seems to take priority over flavor. At these prices, I expect thoughtful execution, consistency, and food that leaves an impression for the right reasons. Instead, I left each visit feeling that the experience was more style than substance. It's disappointing because there's clear potential here, especially with such a strong service team. But until the kitchen becomes more consistent and the food better reflects the prices being charged, I won't be returning.

The Chef's Tasting consists of several preset amuse-bouches, with your choice of main and dessert. The thing that Hearth seems to be known for is their unique combinations of ingredients, tastes and textures, all leveraging their signature olive oils (which are available for purchase). It was fun trying all of the combos, most of which were delicious! I did get the short rib for my entree and unfortunately it was dry. The roasted vegetables were aplenty and tasty so I was glad to have had a substantial meal despite not eating much of the short rib. I mentioned it to the server and she shared that they had switched vendors recently and that it was different than their typical short rib. Hoping they switch back! The meal ended with dessert, and the honey/almond/white chocolate/blueberry sorbet I selected was decadent and yummy. All in all, I enjoyed my experience. The service was fantastic and we were treated to complimentary baked goodies to take home. My friend shared that their tasting menu changes seasonally and that all of the various dishes have been unique and delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Ogden!
