I had never seen nor heard of this place before a few weeks ago. I happened to be exploring a new area and spotted it. I saw a menu that put me in the mind of raising canes. But bigger, and creative...it had Fried mushrooms and chips and dip...so I took a chance. I ordered the chips and buffalo dip with one chicken nibblerz and a cup of ice (love ice). The chips were hot and freshly made. The dip had lots of chicken in the cheesy sauce and it was definitely spicy. The little chicken sandwich wasn't so small. It comes with 3 but I ordered 1. Chicken cooked hard and crispy, nice flavor. The ice is super small...nice little balls that rival Sonic. I'm not sure why this place is such a secret. They are never really busy. Normally I wouldn't do a review on a fast food joint but this place warrants one. First off, I have loved Zaxby's chicken for years. When I was stationed in Florida it was the only place besides Hooters that had wings near me. So I went often. I had an odd craving to try them again so I drove out to this location and went through the drive through (coronavirus). I ordered the 20 piece and asked for two flavors. I was met with a rude "we don't do that here." I replied that I've ordered this way at other locations previously. I got the response "I'm the one pushing the buttons and I'm one of the managers. If you want two sauces you have to make two separate 10 piece orders." Not only was her tone condescending but the cost of doing this is an additional $3. Rather than argue, I just drove off. I tried this place for the first time recently after 21 years of living down the street from them, and let me tell you, I'm so mad I hadn't gone and tried them sooner. Yeah, they're "just another chicken place" but have you bit into a piece of chicken and felt enlightened? Have you ate a cheese curd so amazing that you felt like you could die right then and there? Pretty good wings and chicken fingers but Cane's is definitely number one. This is a poor man's version of Raising Canes. The place is darker, more dimly lit and run down than a Cane's location. The drink machine wasn't working properly either. The service was very and they really tried to take care of me. The fries were pretty good and so was the Texas toast. The chicken fingers and wings were decent but again just one or two notches below you know who. Overall not bad for chicken and if you're in the area it's a good choice. After being on a retreat all weekend, I jumped at the chance to eat there. We each ordered the chicken strips plate and substituted another slice of texas toast for the slaw. It was the right choice. The toast was buttery and crunchy. So good. The french fries had a good seasoning on them and they were not overly greasy. The chicken was crunchy and had a good breading. I usually like the chicken from this establishment but I was tempted to buy the advertised chicken salad option. It looked so good on tv and then when I got my order, i realized that I was missing a side item and it wasn't as big or tasty as it seemed. Manager said he would make a "one time exception" and make my order. My girl went through this Zaxby's about 2 weeks ago. They left things out of the order that she had paid for, almost $20 worth. The things they did put in the order were mostly wrong. She was in a hurry and did not check the bag until she got home. We've left several messages for customer service, and store management with no response. We understand everyone makes mistakes, but if this is the way Zaxby's handles their mistakes, they shouldn't be in business. I live Zaxby's the chicken is always so moist and the fries always so well seasoned. This particular location, I can't rate the building or inside, I can't tell you how clean or nasty the bathrooms are, and I can only give a small write up on the staff and customer service because I used the drive thru. I normally order the Arnold Palmer in GA, but in TX I just ask for a half lemonade and half tea, to my surprise at the window the employee stated as he passed the drinks to me, "here's your Arnold Palmer". Imagine the smile that put on my face it was cute that this young man knew the actual drink name and made my day, so kudos on that! The toast was a bit softer than normally, but still just as good, the fries were a bit soft as well, not friend super hard thank goodness though. Zaxby's offer a wide variety of flavored wings, chicken strips, salad, onion rings, shakes and brownies. I'm not big on french fries but Zaxby's makes me want to reconsider.
