From the creaminess of the soup, to the saltiness of the clams and bacon, to the earthiness and nuttiness of the spices. Adding the oyster crackers in there gives it that extra textural contrast as well with the crunchiness. What also stands out is how fresh the clams feel - not like canned clams at all. The soup has the perfect consistency as well. This feels like a thoroughly engineered recipe that has taken many iterations to perfect, and I can see why this has supposedly won awards in New England-level competitions. When restaurants say things like "we won the best X in [city known for food X], often I roll my eyes, but this is the rare case where I actually believe that could happen. The 8oz cup cost around 10 bucks, which is a pretty solid deal. It's not a huge portion but also not small either.
