I have been to many massage spa's. I put this one right up there with Massage Envy. I arrived on time, entered the room 8 minutes after the apptand the massage ended 40 minutes later. I was very specific regarding the type of pressure I wanted. I had indicated I wanted a full body massage. The massage started face down and worked the back, arms, legs and feet. Each time she used additional cream, she failed to rub it in her hand before using on my body and felt as tho she kept it in the frig. Strokes were mechanical with gummed up wheels and did not flow. I had to constantly remind her that I wanted a more softer pressure due to past injuries. then it was time to roll over! She only worked the neck and nothing else was worked on, such as chest, stomach, thighs, calves. When working the neck area, the pressure was so hard, that it deviated my throat causing repeated coughing and very uncomfortable The cream was similar to Biotone muitipurpose cream, when heated, tends to melt. When she placed the hot towels on my hands and feet, it became very oily and was not wiped off well and no towels in the room to get cleaned off. The therapist pride herself on being the best at wha$49.95 but charge you $50. A therapist should be mindful when working on their clients and not make excuses that their mind is full of other things and "Forgot". My experience was very disappointing and based on the lack of experience and skill of the therapist, I would not return. Being shorted on time is unacceptable. If you state 1 hour massage then the session should be 1 hour on the table, with the appropriate cost. I would not recommend Zen Spa to anyone looking for a complete massage by a experienced therapist. read more

I called for an appointment and was able to be booked the same day, which is one of the reasons for the great rating. The massage therapist I had was amazing. She had strong hands and made sure the pressure she was using wasn't uncomfortable. I came in for mild lower back discomfort and found out that I had tension all over my body. Frankly I would rate this spa as one or even no stars if it wasn't for the facial. OK let me explain. Here it is the new year or very close and I am post holiday stressed and in pain so in a last minute hope for some relief I found Zen Spa on line and booked an appointment for a facial and a massage. The facial, although strange was good, it was strange half fac as it was half facial and half hand and arm massage, strange, but worked on some odd level. However no saying the same thing for the massage. I was moved from the room where I had my facial to a massage room. A room that was not separated by a wall, but rather a divider wall with absolutely no insulation. Meaning I heard everything going in the room that was adjacent to mine. It was loud, obtrusive and made me more stressed than when I arrived. In fact it was so obnoxiously loud that my therapist Ted was annoyed. It got so bad that I had to end the massage a 1/4 way into it. Looking for relaxation? Looking to feel "Zen"? Then Zen spa is not the place to go! I suggest for an amazing facial go to Pampering Angel in Roseville, ask for Wendy, for a better than amazing massage, Pampering Angel, Roseville, Loretta! I have been here a few times and have always had a pleasant experience... until today. I tried booking an appointment with Lacey who is by far my favorite! Unfortunately she is booked until Monday. So I made the mistake of going with someone else. First off, it felt like my therapist was falling asleep during my massage; all of a sudden the touch would become less firm and slow, to eventually no movement at all ( as I'm there laying on my stomach with my head in the hole thinking "what in the hell is going on?"). Then once I was asked to flip over for her to massage my shoulders, that's when I began debating telling her to stop so I could get up to leave. Her breathe smelled of nicotine! She kept breathing it on me. The sound of her chewing gum (probably to hide the fact she probably had just got done smoking prior to my arrival) by no means, was relaxing. In addition, instead of gently switching my head from side to side, she was practically throwing it. I feel like a lot of time was wasted on massaging areas that were not in pain. For example, I specified my upper/mid back was in pain... she spent maybe 10 minutes on it and 25 min on my feet (that's where i felt she was falling asleep). Just overall, bad experience and Im even more mad that I paid for it! If I go back, it will be for Lacy only! read more

I had a 90 min deep tissue massage. I showed up 15 mins early for my appointment, the gal that did my massage was late she came through the door and went to the back to set up, by the time I got into the room it was 12:05, started the massage at 12:06. the beginning it was amazing but towards the end it was very rushed, in my back and shoulders she did great but then their was times where she was just kinda running her hands lightly over my back, when she got to my feet it was so quick I was really upset especially since she asked me what brought me in today and I told her my shoulders neck and feet are really bad. When it was over (which was exactly at 1:30 which was not the correct time to stop since she was late!) I was still laying on the table and she told me to do stretches and drinks lots of water and then rushed out the door and left. I'm sorry but every other place I've been to they wait for you outside the door after the massage and talk to you about everything and say good bye. It was just very uncomfortable. The receptionist was very nice when she asked how it was and I told her it was okay just seemed very rushed, she gave me $5 off not much but it was very nice to do. My husband bought me a gift card to Zen Spa for my birthday. I made an appointment for a half hour focus massage at eleven thirty in the morning. I got there early and filled out their paperwork. At about 11:33 they finally called me back. After about 45 seconds of conversation she left me to change and get comfortable. She didn't return until 11:40. She then proceeded to give me an ok massage that really my husband could have given me for free. When she finished and covered me back up I turned around to see the time was 12 sharp. She took her sweet ass time starting the massage but managed to finish at exactly twelve. So my half hour massage was really twenty minutes. Very disappointed! read more

Being a tall guy with a bit of a crooked spine (one leg shorter than the other, you know), I often have to contend with back stiffness and pain. So I wanted to find a place where I can get a first rate massage at decent price, without having to deal with pressure to buy into a membership, sign a contract, etc. I found that Zen Massage of Roseville fit that need exactly. I found that I can get a one-hour swedish massage anytime for $49.00; which is not just an introductory first-timer price. They also have 30 minute "focus massages" for $29.99, and their 1.5 hour version is $79.99, which I mention as an example to compare with the competition; they offer much more, of course. The first time I went, I used a gift certificate that I receieved for Christmas (an awsome gift idea, by the way), so it was free to me. I wasted no time putting it to use. I found the facility to have a clean, relaxing ambiance; the massage rooms are private, dimly lit, with dreamy relaxing music piped in; a small fountain provided the soothing sound of trickling water. I received a 1 hour (actually, approximately 50-55 minutes, which seems to be the commercial standard) "Zen Swedish" massage from Rebecca, who happens to be the manager of the Roseville Location. It was fantastic, let me tell you. Not only was all my stiffness and pain relieved, I went away incredibly relaxed with a significant lift in my mood that remained the rest of the day. A week later, I had to go back, and this time I got an hour with Lacey, who was also incredible. She seemed to find all the knotty areas in my neck, shoulders and lower back, and apply just the right pressure (very firm) to melt them away. Then she attended to my legs and arms with the same careful attention. When she was done, she recommended that next time I should do the 1.5 hour massage, saying it would allow more time to be more thorough. More thorough? Wow! I think I might just follow that suggestion the next time I go. Heck, at these prices, I can probably manage at least a couple of visits a month. The only thing I would say as criticism is that it would be nice to get a full hour of massage, since you are led to believe you are paying for a full hour. As a first-timer, I didn't know that the hour only included 50 minutes of massage, so it was a little bit disappointing. I have since found that they usually stop at about the 50 minute mark, which I suppose is to allow you to relax a little and get dressed and out before the start of the next hour. This seems to be a common practice in the business, so they aren't doing anything unusual. It would be really cool to get that extra ten minutes, though. Nevertheless, I feel they still deserve a 5 star rating for what I feel is excellent service at a great price. read more

I am 20 weeks pregnant and needed a massage bad. When I called to make the appointment, it was last minute and the receptionist was more than thorough and accommodating. When I walked in for my appointment I got a good vibe from the entrance, calming aromas with relaxing music. I could tell by the voice it was the same receptionist, and she was just as welcoming as she was on the phone. I was a receptionist for a salon/spa for 5 years so I know how important (& difficult) it is to keep composure with certain guests especially when you're already busy (I mention this because while I was there she received a call from someone that sounded like they may have been asking quite a few ridiculous & impossible questions and the receptionist was truthful and calm and accommodating the entire time still). My massage therapist was out to me shortly after I had filled out my 'first time guest' paperwork, she seemed sweet but did not introduce herself. I told her I had never had a prenatal massage, I had a tender spot on the 'back' of my left leg, and when she asked if there were any areas I needed special attention to I mentioned my lower back. Overall, I wouldn't say she did a "bad" job, but I think this therapist is for someone who just wants to fall asleep solely rather than have any focus on any particular muscles. I had requested medium-firm pressure, but instead I got light-medium pressure. She also didn't even go near my low back where people are usually in pain when someone mentions their low back, and when massaging my legs, she didn't go all the way up as if she was nervous or something and she used lighter pressure on one leg due to my scar tissue which she didn't even massage close to (hence me showing her the only small spot that needed lighter pressure, not my entire leg). I felt more as if the massage was a routine relaxing skin rub rather than focusing on any muscles. I didn't mention anything because it seemed as though what she was doing was a "warm up" for the area to spread around the oil/lotion and that she was going to focus more on muscles, but the next thing I knew, she was on to the next part of my body. Over all, it is not what I needed at all. However, she may be a better fit for someone else, and the place was very nice and I will be going back to try out a new therapist eventually. For now I give 3 stars, hopefully this can go up my next visit. I just wish that I didn't have to pay the additional cost for it being a prenatal massage vs a regular massage when nothing was different except for my side lying position. Had a 90 minute deep tissue with Yvette on Sunday and it was excellent! She worked out many of my chronic back problems and I will definitely rebook her! The atmosphere is pleasant and professional. I've read other's complaints about start and stop times but in my many years of visits, I've personally not had a problem. Every therapist is different and not a perfect fit. I've had massages I didn't love but still hear others rave about the same experience. I encourage people who've had a poor or mediocre experience to consider trying a different therapist, as everyone's needs are unique and personal. She gave great insight as to why I carry so much tension in specific areas. I'm always hesitant to try new places but since I just moved to the area I decided to give this place a try. I have gone here before and usually enjoyed it. lately the service has seemed to decline. The last time I was in you could hear all the noise from the buisness next door and it was loud. I went in today with my daughter and her two frinds. One of the girls had to fill out some paper work and ended up going in ten minutes after the other two girls. She ended up being done 10 minutes earlier than the first two that went in. She told me they worked on her back and that was about all. She was never asked to turn over to work on the ohter side. All in all she had about a 30 minute massage. I made the mistake of paying ahead of time as I was just paying for the girls and included a nice tip for all three. It was the first time she had ever got a massage and it was dissapointing. This will be the last time I use this place so if anyone can suggest a place where you actually can get an hour massage ( instead of a 30-40) for a competitive price please let me know. read more
