Went there with my wife on a Friday night around 8:30pm. Not busy at all. Didn't know if that was good or bad. But we started with the Pork Gyoza and a side salad. Gyoza was awesome and the salad had a very sharp and tangy ginger sauce. Really liked it. We got a couple rolls. One was a Panic roll which is avocado, spicy crabmeat, spicy sauce and a jalapeno. YUM. Wife got a crunch roll. Not sure what was in it but she liked it. We all shared an AHI Tower. VERY VERY GOOD! So we got two soft drinks, a salad, appretizer, two rolls and an Ahi Tower for under $30. Thought the food was great and it was very good on the pocket book. We will definitely be back. read more

I came across this location by accident today at lunch time and felt adventurous to try a new place I haven't been to. The person taking my order said they opened about 10 days ago in a small location at the Shops at North East Mall in Hurst between Genghis Grill and Carrabas. Supposedly there used to be an ice cream place in the location. Zena Sushi also has a location in Coppell, but staff said that the menus are a little different. The interior is not very big, but a good size for starting up a business. It looked modern, clean and staff was friendly. I didn't pay attention to their opening times, but since they are located right near a movie theatre, I'm sure their business will be booming if quality of food and service will continue to be as good as they were. It's nothing too fancy, but a great place to hang out for sushi before or after the movies. Ordered a Sushi & Sashimi Bento to go: 5 pc. sashimi (tuna and salmon), 5 nigiri sushi (variety), 4 pc. California Roll, 2 fried Gyoza, house salad. I really liked it. The food was very tasty and the price was good for what you get. I will definitely go back and try other items from the menu. Zena Sushi is truly fantastic. The price is unbeatable (I had three rolls and a margarita for $35!) and you are getting a lot in your rolls. I had the Love Love roll and two spicy tunas (took one home for the hubby). The Love Love is a riceless roll, which I prefer at most places so that I can have more fish and the good stuff rather than there being too much rice. It was on point! the fresh tuna around it was so fresh, the crab/avocado/salmon center was flavorful. The crab had sauce mixed in to give it more flavor. It was almost hard to fit a whole roll in my mouth! The spicy tuna rolls were very good as well. This is usually my test roll at a new place to see if I really like it. The tuna is smashed up (not a whole piece, more like a paste which is what I prefer) with the right about of spicy flavors and a reasonable amount of rice. They were a great size for a basic roll, too. My friend had the Maui roll. It was very good, too! I only had one (she wouldn't share, neither would I), so I cannot provide more on it. The margarita is $4! I can't complain there. It isn't your typical one, more carbonated. I had to ask the server if they use Ramune in it because that is what it tasted like, a mango Japanese soda. They do not, but rather use club soda and mango juice. It was delicious! (And yes, it was a mango margarita.) The restaurant itself is small/quaint. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. I ate here with my roommate and her two children tonight before seeing a movie at the theater next door. EVERYTHING was fresh and delicious. For an appetizer, I recommend the "OMG", the 13 year old boy even said "the flavors dance in your mouth, we need to come here again just for that". It was some of the best sushi I have had in a long time. And my goodness, the service was impeccable! I had no issues leaving a tip over 20% of the bill. As we were about to go to the theater to watch a movie we asked for a couple small bags of ice to keep our leftovers cool in the shaded car and they offered to hold on to it and we can pick it up after the show. I was impressed with this little place attached to a mall of all things. I had a simple bento box of bulgogi while there. Ok YES I know that is Korean I just wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. The Sake...typical gekkeiken- just fine, my soda stayed filled, the bulgogi really pretty good- there were some california rolls- they were fine- all the sushy places I go to use the "fake" crab when in a roll- miso soup was good- obviously made with boniato broth. So last night was ash Wednesday and so i tried to find a new sushi place since we recently moved to Hurst. Well we found our new favorite place. They has such a great menu from salads and rolls to bento boxes and desert. Everything came out very fast and was so fresh. We ordered tuna tataki, lady bug roll, tempura California roll, philli roll, and my fiance had a chicken bento box and they even switched out the California roll for him since he has a shellfish allergy. It was very small however only had seating for about 20-25 people plus seating at the bar. When we left most the seat including the bar were full. There was just one person working (other then the sushi chefs) and he did an amazing job at keeping our drinks full! We will for sure be back many times as this is only 10 minutes from our house, just wished they delivered. read more

Omg!! This is the best sushi I've found around. I like the deep fried variety and they have a few yummy options. The Las Vegas roll is the best. Then I follow it with the jalapeño roll. Both deep fried and heavenly. I get extra ginger and go to town. The wait staff is so nice they get to know what you drink, what roll you start with and that you like extra ginger. IWe've been to Zena a few times now. Our first few experiences were absolute top drawer. Additionally, they did not yet have their liquor license so our sake was FREE. and they werent shy about refills ;-) The prices are really good and quality has never been bad. Some days the sashimi is cut a little thick, or the salmon was fresh YESTERDAY, or the waitress can't seem to keep a drink filled - but who can't say that about most any place, eh? Zena has some really great combo options like sushi bento boxes, salmon combo featuring both rolls and sashimi, nigiri combos, and a few good looking bowls. Everytime we go we order something different and short of my personal disinterest in octopus - everything has been great. Everytime we have sat at the sushi bar, the sushi chef has made us a little treat. I especially love this practice because it allows us to try some things we might never have concidered! If you are a local, Japanese Grill is definitely better - but they are closed on sundays and dont have the combo options that Zena offers. Of all the MILLION sushi places popping up, Zena is our #2 choice in the area. read more

If you're craving sushi while at mall, this is fine, but rolls had a lot of crab salad in them, and they were too big to eat in one bite, which I prefer. This place was okay. It's the type of place where I would come if I'm at the mall and craving some Japanese, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way just to come to this restaurant. The food was alright and not that pricey in my opinion. The service could have been better. The waitress wasn't rude or anything it just seemed that she was more interested in watching tv and being on her laptop than paying attention the customers. I've been here twice now and both times were eh. Atmosphere: Place is waay too dim. The restrooms were clean though, so thats good. Service: One time is was just fine, but another time it was not friendly at all, doing just enough. If you're a server, it's your job to be friendly and warm to the customers. Still tipped 20% though~ The sushi chef didn't talk to any of the customers either time I was there unless they were just saying thank you. Food: This is the reason for 2 stars. The food isn't good at all. When it comes to sushi, believe or not, the most important aspect is the sushi rice. It has be flavorful, it has to hold together, and it has to also bring out the flavor of the garnish (aka the fish/protein). The sushi rice here does none of that. It tastes bad, doesn't hold together, and does nothing to bring out the other ingredients. Other than the sushi rice failing to meet my somewhat low expectations, the fish itself was eh. Just average. The first time I got a salmon combo (forgot the actual name), and while there was enough fish on the nigiri(sushi) and roll, there was nothing great about the entire bite at all. My mom got the bulgogi, which she hated, but my mom hates everything so whatever. The second time I got the snapper tempura appetizer, which was actually pretty good! I also got another roll called the white tiger or something like that. That roll was soooo bad... it's topped with white tuna, which is my favorite sushi fish, but I still didn't like it. I took one bite and all I could taste was masago/fish egg and sauce. The texture of the rice was bad since it can't hold together and the fish didn't have much flavor. While it may have looked pretty, it didn't taste good at all. Literally anyone can make a pretty sushi roll after a couple tries, but few people can make true, authentic sushi with a good sushi rice, fresh and flavorful fish, and juuust enough sauce/seasoning if any at all to complete the taste. This place is just another average sushi place with pretty rolls. read more

I had been craving sushi for a while and decided to search a place out on my lunch break. Zena was the first to show up on the local list so I figured "What the hell." Being stuck in a resturaunt strip by a busy mall I wasn't expecting much, I was very surprised! It's a small place with a small staff but it's a nice, clean, modern, and friendly establishment. It's not award winning sushi but it is of excellent quality. The fish is fresh, the rice is good, the presentation is nice, and they have a decent selection for a reasonable price. I left full and satisfied for under $15. I've been searching out and eating sushi for the better half of my adult life and have had every level you can think of, from sushi that tasted like they fished it out of a garbage can to 5 star quality. There was heaps of mayonase on virtually every roll they offer, and if not mayonase then cream cheese! I mean really! Plus one of them came literally sitting in a plateful of liquid! The spider roll was edible, but we ordered several kinds of sushi and I wouldn't order any of them again. In fact I wouldn't go back again. It wasn't terribly expensive, but not worth the calories.
