We arrived 1 hr before show & didn't have much time to visit with our large table of 6! It didn't help one meal was delayed, but we were able to share the full chicken meal & they held the TO GO food in the fridge until after the show so it all worked out ok. I came here with my family before a performance at the Holland. The location couldn't be more convenient if you're seeing a show, and the huge floor-to-ceiling windows with the snow falling down made for a gorgeous ambience. You start your meal with a bread basket that is made up of flaky biscuits, which was a really unique feature. It's paired with a butter trio that had a regular butter, honey butter, and one that seemed to be some kind of onion and herb butter. They were all fantastic. The one part of our meal that wasn't superb was the drinks. My Prosecco was served in the wrong type of glass, my sister's espresso martini was subpar, and there was a mixup when serving two other drinks. Nothing egregious, but the bar side of the restaurant doesn't seem to be a strong suit. However, the food was incredible, and the portion sizes were huge. I had the hot honey chicken, and it was fantastic. The outside was perfectly crunchy and the inside was cooked very well. The bed of sweet potatoes beneath the chicken was a perfect pairing for the meal. Overall, this is a great spot to go before any Holland performance! read more

Our server was an absolute delight and I wish I would've gotten her name so I could mention her specifically. My ribeye was good and the puree was phenomenal. Overpriced for what you get. It made my mom and I very ill. The wait time was awful. It was my mom's birthday and they didn't do anything special. The lovosh is too hard and they will not provide other options. Very disappointed!!! In fact I would say book somewhere else to enjoy your time at the Hollander Center. It was just awful. My wife and I finally had a chance to stop in here for dinner before a show. It was super convenient and I always love being able to make reservations on Open Table. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The menu is small but surely has something for everyone. The drinks come from the bar that is out in the main lobby area. I've never had a Manhattan served with all the ice, it tasted fine but not ideal. Overall the food was quite delicious. I really felt like a burger and I'm not really a cheese curd guy but this burger was juicy and pretty high quality. I didn't care for the fries, not sure why anyone ever thinks they need to batter the fries. My wife loved her salmon dish and thankful they are up on gluten free options. One really fun treat was the complimentary trio of butters, one was French onion, cream cheese and chive and not sure on the 3rd but all very enjoyable. We will come back for sure as the prices are fairly reasonable as well. read more

We were attending a performance at the Holland Center and in a bit of a time crunch, so obviously Zinc was the most efficient choice for a pre-show meal. Reservations were somewhat touchy as you do not appear to be able to call the restaurant directly (though I emailed them and received a quick phone call confirmation). If I'd tried to brave the automated phone system surely it would have been equally effortless. Service was pretty exceptional. Efficient and friendly without being overly formal. (And how much formality is really required when the menu is attempting to satisfy a wide variety of tastes; from macaroni and cheese to pistachio pomegranate salmon?) The bread and butter really set a high note for the meal... A meal that I admittedly, for reasons unknown, had somewhat lowered expectations about to begin with. The butter was a trifecta of flavor. Regular, apricot, and a cranberry pistachio, I think. The bread basket contained four options... A zesty chip-like offering, twisted breadsticks, grilled flatbread and soft rolls. All unique and well-received by our table. The martinis had a preparation misstep that was quickly corrected by the manager, after I pointed it out to our server. Full bar service is obviously available, though it's not generally provided from the main Ovations bar for some reason. When it came time to order entrees I was pretty jazzed about the breads still and figured I should go all in - ordering the crispy duck special served with a goat cheese bread pudding and spinach. It was not what I was hoping for. Okay, but not great. I wished the duck could've been crispier, the spinach would've had more embellishment and that the bread pudding had been more moist. The meat itself was a bit tough too. A bit of a letdown in general. I figured maybe dessert would be a chance at redemption and had to try the Chocolate and Chai Pot de Creme with "Honey-Ginger Whipped Cream and Cardamom Pistachio Biscotti." We shared around the table and no one was compelled to lick the bowl. The most impressive part of the night was certainly the staff rendition of "Happy Birthday" to another table. This is a convenient and affordable date night location for dinners at the Holland Performing Arts Center. Given you're already handling parking for the show, it's a two-for. That we could get a great salad with a chopped chicken breast at a great price was even better! The waitstaff were all great company during our repast. Even some of the guests were charming for interaction. The noise level was high, though. The room temperature was low. These were our only dislikes. read more

We were looking for dinner before attending the Branford Marsalis Quartet concert at the Holland Performing Arts Center, and discovered that the Holland has a restaurant built-in. The restaurant is called Zinc, and it is a full service restaurant with a chef on staff. The available food goes from burgers and salads all the way through crab cakes and tenderloin. Your entree (depending on which one you choose) usually comes with either the soup de jour or the house salad, and then two side orders. I tried the herbed green beans and herbed mashed potatoes with my Tenderloin Slices. The salad was more artisan than anything else, and was served on a triangle shaped plate. Fresh bread was also served with the meal. The tenderloin slices were pretty tasty. For $29, I was expecting at least 3 slices, but 2 were provided with a healthy quantity of mashed potatoes. The sides were very good - I'd order the herbed green beans any day. The wine list was contained on one page, but completely counter to the food menu, the wine menu was on the lower price end. I think the highest bottle I remember seeing wasn't over $60, and the bottle of Cabernet that we ordered was $38, and was good. Reservations are strongly suggested - the seating is limited, and during performance nights, this restaurant is right inside the Holland Center. We had a 6:45 reservation for the 8:00 pm performance, and it was a little tight getting there. You make your reservation through the Holland's phone system - press 1 and wait for the prompts. If you have your ticket, you'll need to give the the 7 or 8 digit number on the top of the ticket (upper right side), so have that ready. Summary: Good food. Portions small Wine prices good. We had dinner here prior to a concert about a week ago. The atmosphere is a large open concept dining area with clean lines and colors and a modern vibe. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Near the door was pretty drafty for me in my dress and the server was very nice and reseated us to the other side of the restaurant with a comfy booth. Our server was prompt, friendly, and helpful in determining what would be a good gluten free choice for me on the menu. There are a good handful of gf items to choose from. I went with their house salad with a creamy basil dressing. I love their modern geometrical shaped plates and presentation was lovely with the cut snap peas, multi colored cherry tomatoes, and sliced cucumber. The dressing was phenomenal and the Fiance actually dipped his gluteny bread in what was remaining and devoured it. For dinner, I had the pomegranite pistachio salmon. The spiced pistachio crust was addicting and the pomegranite mollasses complimented the dish nicely. It was not difficult to see I enjoyed my meal as there was not even a single bit of quinoa left on my plate when it was removed from the table. The Fiance went with the mushroom chicken florentine cannelloni. The Fiance hates mushrooms, and any vegetable really, but he loved this dish. He said the mushroom flavor was subtle and the sauce and chicken were both tasty and well prepared. We finished off the meal with their vanilla ice cream which was the perfect ending. Overall price was quite reasonable, service was excellent, menu items have interesting flavor combinations and are executed well. We will certainly be back for further nomming. read more

My wife and I came to Zinc prior to a show at the Holland. The restaurant is only open two and a half hours prior to a show. Zinc is tucked into the Holland Performing Arts Center which has a really nice vibe full of windows which overlooks Gene Leahy Mall. We were seated immediately but then had to wait a few minutes for the server to come over to our table. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant which holds roughly 80 people. Once we ordered our drinks and food came out really fast. We both ordered the gruyere burger which was phenomenal. Surprisingly it's one of the best burgers I've ever had in Omaha. For dessert we had a strawberry basil lemoncello sorbet which was the perfect palate cleanser. We then ordered drinks to go which was a nice option rather than waiting at the bar which usually has a 15-minute line prior to a show. Our total bill was $56 which I feel is reasonably priced considering the great food. Overall I would definitely recommend coming to Zinc prior to a show. Just make sure that you make reservations at least an hour and a half prior to the show to allow plenty of time to eat, drink, and find your seats. read more

Without a doubt, this place does have the best view of Omaha. The restaurant is very clean and sleek. Our server was excellent. She knew the menu. She cared about what she was doing. The food was good. But slow ... slow.... slow. We waited close to 30 minutes for our meal. The place wasn't really that busy. I did have to reminders server twice that I need to the plate. The food was quite tasty, but small servings. That isn't necessarily bad. I would recommend that the chefs put out lemon wedges. I found the flavor of a lot of food flat until I put lemon on. Then it really was an eating experience. It certainly was handy to be so close to where our concert was going to be. But I think I might stick with Ovations downstairs in the future. read more

First, even though we had reservations and there were more empty tables than not we stood forever to get seated. Two servers appeared to be running everything. They were out of two main dishes and when the menu is very limited already this is a bad start. They were out of salmon and the open faced steak sandwich so my mother-in-law ended up ordering the Vegetable medley dish, when it came you couldn't even tell what it was. If you've ever watched the prison show Lockup, it looked like the loaf they get when they're in lockdown. It was so unappealing and she said it tasted like they put all vegetables in a blender, put it in a dish and baked it. It was just a mushy, green blob. She didn't eat it and instead had half of someone else's burger. It was horrible and I can't believe they would send it out. Besides that, the truffle fries were soggy, the chicken tasted almost bad, and the potatoes were probably prepared one or two days ago. We left more food than we ate. Service was slow, they didn't clear plates or glasses. Only positive was the butter trio and rolls were good and the side salad wasn't bad either. read more

This is only the second Yelp review I've ever written - and I only write them when things go terribly, horribly wrong. I went to Zinc on a double date with my fiance and another couple on Valentine's Day, 2015. The idea was to catch dinner and a show, so we scheduled a 6:15 reservation before our 7:30 show. You'd think 1 hour and 15 minutes would be more than enough time to eat and find our seats, wouldn't you? We arrive, check our coats, and are seated. The wait staff then proceeds to ignore or overlook our table for 15-20 minutes. It got so bad that everyone was sitting quietly, hands folded, menus piled up, staring at each staff member every time they passed our table. Right as I considered just standing up and asking the manager to please send someone over, he finally noticed no one was helping us, and sent a waitress. Now, in an ordinary restaurant, this scenario might not have been so unforgivable. But you need to understand that Zinc has, at most, 18-20 tables being served total, you can see every single one of them from any point on the dining room floor, and despite it being Valentine's Day the restaurant was not full. So the fact that no one thought to help us before we started staring at people is a little ridiculous. The waitress arrives, and we finally order drinks - a glass of wine and a Manhattan. While we are waiting, another server brings us a basket of fresh baked bread (which was amazing!). The problem, however, is that we waited another 15-20 minutes before our (2!) drinks arrived - but, the Manhattan was excellent, so there's that. During this period, the waitress did not once stop at our table and take our dinner orders. At this point, it is now 6:55-7:00, and we are beginning to wonder whether we will be served in time to make the show. Eventually, at 7:05, the waitress brings our drinks and takes our dinner order. Each of us orders either steak or salmon, two of us order side salads, and the race against time begins. At 7:15, the waitress brings our table 4 side salads. She then proceeds to set them in front of each of us before asking whether we actually ordered them. We remind her that only two of us ordered salads, and she proceeds to ask us, "Are you sure?" We were sure -and we sure didn't like being argued with. And away, the two extra salads go. At 7:23, our food arrives, and we've all begun to realize that we are going to be late for the show unless we rush through the meal. For my $30, I got a filet mignon that was undercooked, not at all seasoned, and almost cold, cold "roasted" vegetables, and soggy "truffle" fries without a drop of truffle oil. I also couldn't cut any of these items quickly, because our waitress didn't ever bring me a steak knife. Once again, the staff seemed oblivious, and no one asked us how the food was after bringing it to us. I was not the only person at the table who was unimpressed by the food, especially at the prices they were charging. In any ordinary circumstances I would've called over the waitress, sent back all of the food, and asked to please speak with the manager about being comped for something. But I didn't get to do that. Because by the time I realized the food was badly prepared, we had about 4 minutes to showtime. If I had asked for anything else, we would've been locked out of our show for the first part of the concert - about 30 minutes of a 2-hour show. So, instead of complaining about the terrible food, our entire table was forced to ask for our checks. After our request, the waitress proceeded to bring a single check to a table of 4 (on Valentine's Day, mind you), without asking us if we wanted to split anything. So finally, realizing it was hopeless, we agreed to just split the check 50/50 and gave her two credit cards. This seemed to spur our waitress into action. When she arrived back at our table, she informed us that she had, in fact, split the checks and that we would need to tell her which card was on which check. At this point, the whole table was furious - with 2 minutes remaining to showtime. We quickly hand her our cards, pay, and leave as quickly as possible. We arrived at our seats with about 30 seconds to spare. Now, if you're still reading this story, I'd like to congratulate you for sticking with me, and I'll sum things up. (1) The staff, from start to finish, was atrocious - some of the worst I've experienced in say, the last 10 years - normally, I'll make excuses for the servers, but ours was just incompetent on all fronts; (2) The food was below average at best, and certainly not worth the money - the best things on our table were my Manhattan and our basket of bread, and everything felt as if it had been catered in and just warmed up; (3) The service was painfully slow and almost caused us to miss our show. My advice: Don't go to Zinc, tell your friends to stay away from Zinc, and spend your money on actual food at a real restaurant in downtown Omaha. read more
