There's like 65% of the restaurant empty and the have 5 wait staff, 1 hostess (that's too damn quiet when announcing your name, and she walks around the restaurant like she has a gun to her head). There's a line 6-7 separate parties deep on the wait list. Plus waiting for our food takes forever too. We should've ate in the front and just picked up our food ourselves. Zippy's is an island favorite! The service at this location is usually good- fast and accurate. Sometimes though you can be on hold for a really long time if you're making a phone order. The quality and portion of the food was changed (mostly for the worse) in the past few years. Portions have gotten really small yet prices have increased. I don't like their fried chicken anymore. Also the chicken in their salads has a weird processed texture- not real chicken. We don't eat at the restaurant because they charge more for the same food you can get at the take out counter. I normally stop here to grab breakfast while my doggie is getting groomed across the street. Normally a good place, busy but consistent food like all other Zippys. Food: Standard Zippys fare, consistent, fast, and tasty. I usually go with the fried rice for breakfast with an egg and portuguese sausage plus a cup of coffee. Service: Zippys Kaneohe fell short this time. I was seated quickly but they seemed to be running short staffed on this particular Saturday morning. Took my order after about 10 minutes..not too bad. Food came out in about 10 minutes, again not too bad. By the time my food arrived, I had finished my first cup of coffee so I was expecting the server to make her rounds shortly to top off the coffee cups. Waited and waited, she didn't get back to my table to offer coffee until a full 50 minutes after the meal service. Couldn't get her attention the few times she did walk by the table. She kept apologizing to the tables around me about the delay in their food. Not really blaming the server, looked like they only had 3 waitress' for a full restaurant. Value: Good value for the food quality. The portions are not huge but enough for most folks. Lots of options to add on items to your order to make complete meals, kiddie meals, etc. Overall: Hoping this experience was an aberration. Make this one a 3.5. Our recent visit to Zippy's Kaneohe was a huge win. We had a hamburger steak breakfast, a chicken curry katsu saimin, chili fries, and a Zip pac (my wife's go-to order). We even took home a slice of the custard pie, which turned out to be excellent; I went back the next day to pick up an entire pie! In short, everything was great -- delicious and in good portions. It's diner food, so you have to be good with that, but for diner fare, this was really excellent. The restaurant itself was VERY cold, so bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Parking was plentiful. It took a while to get seated (too long, imo), but once we were seated, the service was excellent. Our waitress really went the extra mile for us -- especially when we wanted to share a couple of the dishes and she split them without even being asked. I drink a lot of water and still got my fill. My family (which has been here longer than I) reports that previous trips to Zippy's have been decent, but that on occasion, the food has been cold or less satisfying. They report that the service has always been friendly. But this four-star rating was for the trip that I made with the family last week, and I really thought it was an excellent visit. Talked to manager, all he could tell me was that when I called I talked to someone at the call center, not at the actual restaurant and that's why this happened. Smh. To be honest, I love Zippys. No matter how many times they change the way they make their saimin, I order it every time. Almost everybody who grew up on this island grew up eating Zippys. Maybe four stars is a little generous, but this is my comfort food! Food: I ordered the won ton min ($5?) with the complete meal A. For $4 extra you get a bread roll, soup or salad, a drink, and a choice of ice cream, jello, pudding, cake, or pie for dessert. I was surprised at the salad! I was expecting a dinky little salad but they give you mushrooms, tomatoes and the portion was bigger than I expected. I also ordered garlic fries ($4?) which my bf and I loved! Garlicy goodness! I chose the red velvet cake for dessert. This is their special of the month and it was pretty good as well. As for the won ton min, they give A LOT of won tons but I think they changed the way they make it :( but no matter, it was still good. Service: It was pretty busy last night and our food took a while to come out but our waitress was awesome! Our waters and teas were always filled, and she made sure that we were satisfied. Zippy'z has always been a local favorite chain here in Hawaii. I haven't been back for 7 months; before then two years, and l I still enjoy the same dishes as a did in the past with their chili to their won tun min(mien). Prices have gone up, but it's to be expected being on an island and shipping everything in from other places, although I do wish the prices not go up anymore! It is at its max for the type of food served. I love the custard Danish pastry by far for finger treats. For cakes, I love the dobash and haupia cake. The food is always great. This was first time at this particular Zippy's. Me and my children, we had the bean soup, Korean chicken, the kimchi sausage on a bun thing, and the clubhouse sandwich. I feel it's only right that my first review in Hawaii be the first food that I ate while I was there, at Zippy's! After coming from an almost 6 hour flight from LA and getting into Honolulu at around 9pm, I was already pretty tired considering the 3 hour time difference- it felt more like midnight to me. I was visiting my boyfriend for the first time in Hawaii(he grew up in Kaneohe and still lives there now) and also meeting his parents for basically the first time, they wanted to treat us to dinner right away. Super nice! As a pescatarian, I knew I'd be eating a lot of bomb fish while staying there, so I decided to mix it up a bit and order a tofu patty burger and fries. I wasn't too hungry so maybe that factored into my slow eating, but it was really yummy- I was just so tired! I ate about half of the burger and some of the fries. Ok, the fries were REALLY good. My bf told me people go to Zippy's late night after partying and just "mop". Haha. It makes sense since they are open late and I passed by the glass case of dessert and I can see why people would want to come here especially when your ability to say no is impaired. After the burger, they asked me if I ever had a napple? I hadn't so they ordered two. His parents shared one and we shared the other. The napple was like a really crispy and buttery apple pie thing served with ice cream. Oh. Man. It was so good. The combo of the vanilla ice cream and the warmth of the crispy apple pie thing together in one bite was so good... I knew after that my time in Hawaii, I was going to be eating well. And eating well I sure did... my bf had a list of all these places he loves and wanted me to try so basically my whole week stay revolved around FOOD! They had some young kids working at the counter but they were respectful and they said thank you after taking the order. 4 stars Food: I had the Mini Chili Frank Plate. It was my first time eating the mini. They give you a little over 1/2 a hotdog, Mac salad & 1 scoop rice. I had brown rice & it was partly hard. Total chaos on Halloween evening. Ordered via mobile app at 4:28pm and app says order will be ready at 5:03 pm. Everyone was just standing around either waiting to order or waiting for the order. The counter people are not very helpful. No one is checking to see if anyone's orders is ready. Long story short it took more than 1 hour for me to receive my order and I just had to try the counter people one by one to finally be able to find someone who can actually get me my order. My order was pretty regular... zip pac deluxe, mini spaghetti with garlic bread and wonton mein. So... Zippys, please tell people the order is ONE hour instead of telling EVERYONE to come pick up in half hour to avoid the unnecessary waiting and frustration. read more

A one star Yelp review is better than the alternative. When it rains the walkway leading to the doors is extremely slippery. There is a little sign but despite the sign...the area is still a safety hazard. Dress shoes, athletic shoes, slippers--it doesn't matter. When the area is wet whatever tile is used, albeit decorative is a liability waiting to happen. On the afternoon of 10/23 it was raining fairly steadily in Kaneohe. As I was about to enter I saw a kid wearing slippers slip. He kept his footing but he definitely slipped on the surface outside. Then as I followed the kid and his family in--even i slipped just a little and I was wearing Nike's. (and i was doing my best to walk gingerly and carefully). I made my order and for whatever reason it took awhile to get my one single order of Benefit Chili. I know it is not made to order but it sure seemed like it was forever. In the meantime, while I was waiting I saw a lady do a little shimmy as she slipped slightly on the tile outside. Zippy's is hit or miss with food speed and probably because of the rain the lines grew in the front area. Not fun. But again, the reason for my review is because of the potential for injury just walking into the place. The area outside has been like this since the remodel. Add to the fact that for some structural reason when you open the doors there's like a vacuum effect which can throw anyone off balance. The workers and regulars here know exactly what I am talking about regarding this vacuum effect with the doors. I finally got my single Benefit Chili and as I pushed open the door...what do you know, another kid slipping. Frankly, you are better off removing your slippers or shoes and going in barefoot. Ill acknowledge that the food is satisfactory but hopefully someone at Zippy's Kaneohe sees my review and they act upon it before someone gets really hurt. I went out looking for a cheap satisfying dinning option and I decided on a Zippy's nearby. At first I was going to go get some fast food, but the line was too long so I decided to dine in. I was offered a table quite quickly, and was seated at a nice booth. The setup of the dinning area was very nice and sophisticated, it was very homey in my opinion. I ordered the zip min and it came out pretty quickly. It was very delicious and the service was amazing. I left this Zippy's satisfied. I ordered a mini zip pack which is supposed to come with a piece of fried chicken, breaded hoki fish, a slice of teri beef, and Spam on a bed of rice topped by furikake and takuan per their online menu. THEN a girl comes up to the phone order register and totally looks past me and looks into the crowd. Yes I gave a "can we pick up our phone order in this line?" With an attitude because I was waiting so damn long...then with a hesitation she said oh okay yes...I turned to look at the girls and rolled my eyes and they looked surprised too that she wasnt even going to help us...was she looking for people that wanted bakery items? I dont know but that pissed me off. I grabbed my food and left I didn't even say thank you which I always do. Maybe I mumbled it but i had an annoyed look on my face. We had a reunion event on Memorial Day weekend at Kualoa and made an order for FORTY-ONE Zip Pacs. I had called the night before to place the order for pickup the following morning. I spoke to Julie and have two witnesses who heard me tell her the amount and the approximate pickup time of 7:45-8:00am. I wasn't sure the final number but I said 30 to 40 and I would try to call before her shift was up, but if she is gone before I called, could she make sure to pass the message on to the morning crew. In the morning, I called at 7:20am and got attitude on the phone. I asked if Julie had not left the message for the big pickup and could they not do 41? She huffed that it was not the number, but the time. I said we were right in the time frame I specified and we were on our way. We got there at 7:50am and saw a bunch of stacked bentos lined up in packages behind the counter, and we saw a lady walking in from the back to plop the last 2 packages down on the table. I pointed to the packages and told her that was our big order. This must be the lady with the attitude on the phone. As she was ringing me up, she decided I needed scoldings for making the kitchen all backed up because I did not specify the exact time of pickup. I opened my mouth to retort "I DID!!!" but my classmate stopped me and whispered that we would just write a letter later. I took a deep breathe as the lady turned around to pass us our bags and mouthed, "YOU'RE WELCOME" for our business!!! My friend sent me outside to calm down. Yup chili looks the same ... big mound of rice surrounded by a narrow moat of chili. But wait... my daughter doesn't want to eat it. She said it was spicy and it didn't taste the same. I tasted it and it was spicy and bland. Surf pac was equally disappointing. There was a normal size chicken and it's sibling, a thin piece of old spam, and Teri beef. Everything was room temperature. The chicken was soggy. It was an old soggy as opposed to soggy due to condensation. The chicken looked like plastic and tasted old. It tasted older than the chicken that sits on the table at potlucks. The spam was hard like cardboard and darker like it has been cooked twice. Surprisingly, the Teri beef was good and fresh. In the past, the Teri beef was alway the worst because it was dry and had a lot of rubbery pieces. Zippy's chili and chicken have a distinct taste but the taste was unrecognizable this time so I'm wondering if they changed their recipe. Unfortunately, we had a sore stomach after eating. It was something from the zip Pac since we didn't eat much of the chili. Forgot to mention this was my first meal of the day at 7:00pm. I love Zippy's and I greatly appreciate it now that I've moved away from Hawaii. They have a huge menu of local favorites, most of which are pretty good. Who doesn't love their chili? Even better, you have the option of beans/no beans or vegetarian. My go-to is chili cheese fries with a fruit punch. For those who live on the mainland they sell frozen packs of chili and Portuguese bean soup in select areas. Over the years, some of their items have gotten pretty expensive (especially on the dine-in side). A tip for their pricey Zip/Surf Pacs: you can substitute out one item for an extra of another, which helps to justify its price. Overall, everything tastes amazing and this is a great option for casual dining, late night, or potluck food. Sure, the service can be slow but it's a fast food chain that's open 24/7. When I don't feel like waiting in their restaurant, then I make a phone order - this is especially handy for nights out coming home from town so by the time you get back to Kaneohe your food is definitely ready. read more

Just as good, if not better, than any other Zippys on the island. The dine-in facility and the restaurant are clean and well maintained. The bathroom facility on the dine-in side is the only facility that needs an upgrade. Friendly staff and open 24hrs. The reason why it lost 2 stars is because their phone ordering service needs an upgrade. Even on non-busy days it seems like they don't want to answer the phone. Went last night to use the restaurant card and because who doesn't love Zippy's right but it wasn't the food that completed my night although it was perfect I must say the Service was mind blowing being in such a hard but to still have people treat you like family my family and I was first greeted by Luke, who immediately took care of us and warmed us with a huge welcoming I asked for a specific seat because my nephew is autistic and non verbal and screams a lot and he accommodated us right away. Now I know why I never come to Kaneohe Zippy's even though I live down the street. I rather go to Kailua (which is a good 15-20 min drive) or town (which is a good 30-45 min away drive) all I ordered was 4 scoops Mac salad, 4 plain (NOT grilled) cornbread and 4 garlic bread. Had 2 cashiers and 2 packers (1pm them being the manger Ronald) I saw my order in the counter being wait to be packed, and the manger and the packers and the cashier talking story not even bothering to pack my order, they were just waiting for the cornbread, which I must say walk 5 steps grab it out of the bakery and pack it, I waited 20 min for them just to pack my order when it was visibly right there no apologies and the manger not doing his job and helping , honestly zippys is going down hill , but the prices is definitely going up ridiculous read more

***this was originally a 4 star review but I got a nice contact from Zippy's that somebody actually read my review and took the time to reply politely.... so when that happens I automatically bump up my review by one star.**** My original review: My bus dropped me off way too early for the Easter service that was my ultimate destination, it was raining, I had no umbrella, Zippy's was right by the bus stop, and open. 2 egg chili omelette with hash browns ($7.85), and coffee ($1.90) were tasty. Service was fast and good. With tax and a $3 tip my total was $13.21. Nothing really wowed me to get up to 5 stars though, it all feels somewhat dated and anonymous (and not in a charming way), and I'm left with the mild sense that the portion size could be larger for the price or the price could be a little lower for the portion size. Don't get me wrong, though, I'd be happy to go back. (There were some beautiful paintings on display and for sale in the dining room, however, I'd like to see them "funk it up" a little with a little more conscious effort to play up their history and nostalgia factor for people like me who did NOT grow up with Zippy's.) When I left, the rain had stopped. At Easter Dinner later that day, the Mom brought a Zippy's Napoleon's Bakery haupia layer cake for dessert which everyone reminisced as being the favorite from their childhood and in fact it was quite good, very delicate, I had two slices. read more

Came here on a busy night. Took us over 30 minutes to get seated, only because the tables weren't being cleared after the customers left. A server came by the front to.tell the waiting line that she'll be right with us--except she never came back. Ten minutes later, this guy, Ryan, Sits us down at a table, and comes back to wipe it down for us. He tells us the server should be with us soon. She never comes, so Ryan comes back to take our drink order. Ten more minutes and then finally our server comes by. We already know what we want so we order quickly from her. Ryan comes back out again, and gives us our food. He comes back to check on us often. A child accidentally dropped a glass, and Ryan was there to clean it up The second and last time we see our server is when she gave us our check. We personally gave all the tip to Ryan, who was working on the Bakery/To Go side. In one night, Ryan had was the Host, Server, Busser, Janitor, and Cashier. Those two stars are for Ryan.
