This was our very first time at a Zippy's, wanted to find out what all the fuss was about. My experience was very good. Our server, Mildred, was very friendly, attentive, and efficient, with a sincere friendliness. The food was exactly as I'd expected. It was very homestyle, and tasty. I got the spaghetti and fried chicken, served with mac salad and garlic bread. All was good. Chili and rice was comforting, just like mom's! Mac salad was notable in that it wasn't cold and goopy - it was warmed. Garlic bread was nicely done, not hard. The chili and frank was good, as were the accompanying very crispy french fries. The Portuguese bean soup was great. Tasted like a thick veggie soup, nice sausage. Our desserts of Chantilly cake, coconut cake, banana cream pie and custard pie were all good. I come here regularly. I love the food and the customer service. I usually get the Wun Tun Min, which is a type of ramen. That's my favorite! I love the Won Ton in the soup, the beef goes great with the broth they have. The mix of vegetables, meat, noodles, fish cake, and broth is perfect! Besides that the Zip Pac and the Spaghetti are great! The orange bang drink tastes good, but has tons of signatures. This also a great place to get some deserts from the bakery. They got donuts, cakes, malasadas, and other deserts. I usually do my order via their website. If you call in an order you have to go inside, but if you use their website - they bring it out to your car! Just order 30 minutes before you arrive to the restaurant, park in a numbered stall, and call their store number to have it brought out to you. This place has the worst service response!!!! Placed an order online at 7:40PM, received the notice that it's being worked on in kitchen at 8:32PM! Finally the Notice that my order is ready came in at 8:50PM. Added to this ordeal, I had to wait another 5 minutes because they forgot the 2 garlic bread and side fries with my food order. I love coming to Zippy's, It's a must stop when back to the island. My trip was relatively short and to be honest I wasn't completely sure if we were even able to visit but on my last day before my flight, I knew I had to take the family! With a 12 top our server was more than welcoming, fast and courteous. This is probably my second time ordering an Oxtail soup but I dream about it often, its is sooo ono! If you're from the mainland and only know to get oxtail from California Hotel in Vegas and haven't given Zippy's a try, you are missing out! Dining in restaurant, in non-table service area and take out review - this is gonna be long. Non-table service This portion of the review is based on pre-COVID. Counter service at the time was mediocre. Unfortunately, at the time it would seem that the customer service was lacking. Courteous but without a smile and simply doing their job. Which is fine but for me, there's room to grow for the individual staff members. Just very unimpressive and so even dining seemed lacked luster. Tables weren't clean so we cleaned it ourself by going to the restroom, wetting paper towels and wiping tables and chairs so we could enjoy our meal. And as expected, if the non-service tables aren't kept, neither is the restroom with trash bin overflowing with wet paper towels. Takeout During COVID and takeout only an option, I think we all have a much greater appreciation of being able to work as well as customers still being able to get out for a moment to pickup a family meal. And absolutely, everything is much cleaner now. And due to the pandemic, I've also had the opportunity to use the mobile ordering and curbside pickup. So quick and easy. And appreciative and kind staff members delivering to the car. Dining-In Experience Glad to be able to eat at a restaurant! Although not as before, still a fabulous experience. I think especially because of the lack of wait time to dine-in. During a previous visit and because it wasn't busy, there was no wait time and we were sat immediately after providing name, address and contact info, applying hand sanitizer, taking a temperature with their very cool computerized system. Tables are more than 6-feet apart making the dining experience feel safe. Tables are clean. Paper and disposable menus are available along with QR code scanning for the environmentally conscience. A more personalized customer experience because of the limitation in the number of patrons allowed. I am more than happy to do my part in helping out waitress because of it as well. Even the bathroom wash area was upgraded. It took me a while to figure which blue light was for soap (the one with the bubbles), which one was for water (the drop of water indicator) and the last one i figured was hand drying which I wasn't able to get to work. But very cool and all motion detected. Today's visit, the patron before us made it appear we had to rsvp. So I scanned the QR code, provided all the required contact information, moved over to the waitlist line. A minute later, we were called in. And because I provided all the required contact information for waitlisting, we went straight to hand sanitizing and temperature check. The food is always good and so I keep coming back. Aaaand! I know I can always count on Zippy's, at any location, to be open for dine-in when I just want to sit down and enjoy family time outside of the home every now and then. 5-stars to Zippy's for taking an unfortunate situation and taking the opportunity to improve as well as to innovate in such a time as this. read more

We came here to eat sometime last week and our waitress name was Kat. She was a nice lady up until she served our food. We ordered quite a few orders and me and my wife both got complete meals. I got my dinner roll which was nice and warm but when my wife got her dinner roll it was all crumbled up as if it was old bread that was just warmed up. Our main dishes were good. I got my chocolate ice cream and my wife got chocolate pudding but she had only quarter of the cup and no whip cream. Like is this some kind of joke! When I called to ask for a refund, the cashier seemed busy but remained professional and placed me on hold for the manager. When she got on, she was very apologetic and professional about the situation. She acknowledged and took accountability for their mistake, then went above and beyond to make things right. Always a hit for us. We usually get takeout cause it takes forever to have us sat at the restaurant, but tonight we decided to eat in just cause. Wait was about 40 minutes for our party of 12, so not too bad for a Sunday night! Malasadas we're made fresh at 8pm (yum). Chili chicken plate was sooo good. Always my go to. Hubs got the zip pac which he always enjoys. And kids got the kids burger and fries. I just want to say the fries here are my favorite fries hands down. Only thing is they are pretty understaffed. The waitress was excellent, but you could tell she was overwhelmed. The restaurant is pretty outdated as well. Also, the size of the chicken has gotten much smaller over the years. I have eaten my last meal at this place. I went there for a quick dine-in meal on a day off, and on the way in, I saw a homeless person, or two sitting on the sidewalk outside the restaurant. There were feces on the plantings nearby. Not to say it was from a human or animal, but it wasn't a great visual right before ordering a meal. This was never a fancy or upscale place but at least it was well kept and decent. Kapolei, in general is becoming a mecca for the imported homeless. Zippys is the Dennys of Hawaiian food. Your not going to receive beach side resort feel in the interior. Although there is a beautiful Hawaiian mural on the main dining room wall. What you do receive is many different Hawaiian food choices in one place. Our very friendly and attentive server explained some the choices to us and we settled on the Korean Fried Chicken and fried noodles. Okay, so the chicken is not a Hawaiian dish, when it's on the menu we always have to try it. It was good wasn't the best we've tried but still very tasty. We split the plate between us. The fried noodles had bits of spam, fish and green peppers and mild flavored oil. It was good. We ended up with left overs for lunch the next day. On our way out we noticed a bakery with very yummy looking treats of all sorts. They also had a fast food to go section, which would be very convenient when we want to head over to the Lagoons and watch the sunset. Dinner for 2 was $20.00. We did not order drinks or have desert. Today I went to Zippy's because En Fuego was closed. It wasn't my first choice, but you know... the phrase... Next Stop, Zippy's! I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken and Chili Mixed Plate. Although the food looked good, it didn't taste good. I don't know what happened, but the food quality has gone downhill. The Korean Fried Chicken, one of my favorites to order before, did not have any sauce. And the sauce is what I enjoy about the Korean Fried Chicken dish, so without it, it wasn't as good. And the Chili didn't taste as flavorful as I remember--the Chili tasted bland, and it seemed to have been watered down. The only good thing about my plate lunch today was the Mac Salad. So, two stars for that, I guess. Overall, I'm very disappointed with the food that I ordered today. Next time, I'll be going somewhere else for lunch. read more

This evening I called to make a phone order. I was obviously transferred to the Philippines. The representative took my call, and there was no issue. Upon placing your call, you received an email confirmation of your order. The email states that once you arrive at the location to pull into the designated parking stalls.. You then place your parking stall number into the app, and a representative will be out shortly. They also sent a follow-up text message. Well, this only works for prepaid orders. Nothing in the email states that you must be pre-paid to use this feature. They need to revamp the wording of their confirmation emails and text messages. However, I did receive a text message once I input my parking stall that I am not pre-paid and I need to come into the store. Upon coming in to pay and pick up my order I arrive home to find that the utensils they included was previously used (see attached photos) each and every time I gave Zippys another try he continuously fail and let me down. From food poisoning to diarrhea to tasteless food and rubbery meat in the beef stew and beef curry. This will be the absolute last time I ever visit is a peace location. The only thing good about Zippys is the fruit punch and the Lilikoi drink. read more

I used to live in the Kapolei area so this place is like a second home to me. After many a drunken night, it's always a comforting place as you walk in to the smell of fried chicken and chili. On this 3am early morning, there was only one other customer in the fast food area. Said customer was male and had the same gaze in his eye and awkward smirk after a good night of boozing and partying with friends. I came to the conclusion that this gentleman had just done the same thing as me at a certain establishment on Kapiolani. And let's just leave it at that. I was in town visiting home, so I had a craving for it all. My best bang was an order of ZipPac, mini Korean chicken, and a regular chili. One thing I love about Zippys is you always get a consistent meal at any location. This was no different. The ZipPac is a smorgasbord of all things unhealthy on a bed of white rice. Pour some chili on me (def Leppard fans chime in!) With some amazing k chx and you're golden. I can guarantee this recipe will mitigate any and all effects of hangover. You're welcome. read more

First day in Hawaii, right after we arrived from the airport to the hotel and we asked the valet for a recommendation for something local & good. We aren't fancy people after the concierge suggested a high end (translation: expensive) restaurant for a quick lunch, so we asked for something more along our speed & substantial since we were starving. Fast forward, drive back towards Kapolei to Zippy's. It's kinda like a Marie Callendars/Denny's combo only Island style. 1. We really appreciated that they were checking for the vaccine cards & temps per Covid guidelines. 2. EVERYONE is sooooo nice and attentive--never ran out of drinks & was always checked on :) 3. Food--YUM! Got Locomoco mini (definitely enough food!) that gravy is legit! Egg cooked perfect (over medium-wasn't over cooked or too runny) and the rice also was perfect (I'm Chinese & also picky when it comes to good white rice) they give you a choice of white or brown rice. Hubby got the daily special of beef stew. Good God, the portion was hearty!! Big chunks of beef & potato, with white rice. The Mac salad was the best we've had (even better than my Hawaiian friend's homemade one lol shhh don't tell her though). Also split a Spam musubi; can't mess that up right? Also on point! Finished it all with the Strawberry gelatin parfait (didn't get a pic cuz we were too busy eating that) We went back 2 other times for dinner & breakfast--it was so good! 4. Price--affordable with great portions! Zippy's is a local STAPLE of Hawaii. And a visit to the Ina would not be complete without breakfast at Zippy's. Service from Auntie was first class Kamaina style. The food NEVER disappoints from the 1 inch thick fluffy pancake, to the perfectly seasoned loco moco gravy, to the out of this world corned beef. Social distancing is encouraged with QR code checkin from outside, then temp checking once texted to come inside. We felt very safe, but yet still family with our big party of 10. We didn't have super high hopes, but the flight attendant on our plane had suggested it so we thought it would be an easy dinner to grab. We placed an order online and headed to pick it up. It wasn't ready and there was a line of people waiting for their food, but they were quick to get it prepared. I'm not sure if we didn't order the right things, but the food was very bland. I got the chicken katsu and the chicken had no flavor and neither did the breading. The katsu was crispy, but no flavor made it unappealing to eat. The mac salad was also very bland. This is the first Zippy's I've ever been to. My husband took me here when we were visiting family and it wasn't busy at all. Granted, we went at around 7 am since we needed to make a quick run to Walmart. We shared a mochiko chicken breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious. I was certainly not disappointed. It was big enough to feed both of us especially since I couldn't eat much at the time (yay, for first trimester nausea). Service was friendly and quick. I was the only one in line, and the guy wasn't doing an, all they had to do was give me my order. RME. Always the worst service. Three people behind the counter, I'm the only customer but they send me to another line. What makes it worst is my fried chicken in my zip pac looks like it was twice fried. It's hard as rock.
