The outdoor order area is not very customer service friendly. I ordered two chocolate covered doughnuts. The only chocolate doughnut in the case. When I went to pick up my order the had two glazed doughnuts and filled the whole in the middle with chocolate. I let her know that those were not the doughnuts I ordered we wanted the one covered in chocolate with custard in the middle. I did not touch the doughnuts, they were in a box with a see thru top. She wouldn't change them out. When we picked up our food the mini chicken combo we ordered only had one scoop of macaroni. I let the young lady know that we requested the rice be changed out for another scoop of macaroni. She said no if you don't want rice you only get one scoop of macaroni. I let her know that the lady that took our order said we could change the rice for macaroni. The young lady said no. read more

Once again, my review centers on service and today's review is for the new cashier/counter person, Kawaii. In the morning, we stop by this Zippy's weekly. In the past, we would start the call when we exit the Likelike tunnel (town bound) and if we were lucky, the phone would be answered by the time we hit Kam IV housing. Sometimes, it wouldn't get answered and we would dial again and hope we get someone before we hit the Vineyard cutoff. Nowadays, with Kawaii at the counter, the calls get answered quick. When we pickup our order he greets us with a smile, and thanks us for coming down. Now don't get me wrong, the other ladies there are nice and personable, but they never answer the phone as quick as Kawaii. And before any of you ask, I do not know Kawaii personally. He is a great asset to your morning staff and he provides great customer service on the phone, as well as in person. I also ordered chili it was ready almost immediately but then sat on the counter until the chicken was ready. I really like hot chili, not the one that's cooking down on the counter. So DISAPPOINTED. This zippys is really convenient because they have a drive thru! However, you have to call in a phone order ahead of time in order to use the drive thru window. It makes it so easy when coming home from work and you don't ever have to get out of your car. I've eaten here a couple times and the staff is very friendly. The food is the same as every single other zippys it seems. I think that the only downside about this location is the fact that it is on a busy street, especially during afternoon rush hour. It is impossible to get here without sitting in traffic for a good 20-30 minutes on vineyard. There are also a lot of homeless in the area due to it being so close to Chinatown. They have a takeout area and a dine in area. They have a very small bakery, but the options are very limited. The takeout area is not air conditioned and it is open to the parking lot. The dine in area is decent, but I've been to nicer locations. It's definitely not a go to zippys to eat there, but if you have to grab and go...take out window is a must!!! read more

Sorry for bad review I like this place but the host sat us down got our drinks but people sat after us got there drinks and food before us had to ask the host that nobody came to get our order had to ask to sit somewhere else since we didn't get any service but found out that she didn't tell the waitress that she was doing our table. She apologized and we got our drinks and food pretty quickly. The soft drinks were over $5 everyone knows the fountain drinks is only around 15 cents per serving the paper cups cost more and they use the restaurant cups in the restaurant. Check your bill after they have a kitchen fee to pay for the kitchen staff I think and you pay tip with that they don't tell you. I have never been so disappointed by your establishment until last night for dinner. My friends(8) and I decided to eat dinner at your Vineyard restaurant. The dine in was way to long of a wait so we decided to eat outside because there were tables available. We all ordered, got our food and all was well. Here is where my disbelief starts, with my meal I asked to "purchase a regular sized cup of water." Now midway through my meal I took the empty cup which I had purchased earlier with water to get a refill and I was told that it was your policy not to refill my cup with water. WTH is that all about? They told me that water refills are for dine in customers only and that they cannot refill my cup with water. I didn't even want ice with that! This is my go to spot after serving take out meals to those in need at River Of Life Mission. They have the standard Zippy's safety protocols in place and adhere well to them. Service was good. Place is clean. They got us seated quickly and explained everything (even about the restrooms) well. Our server was polite and pleasant. She made sure to ask and specifically name the various condiments we might need based on what was ordered, after we placed our order. (It is so much more helpful than the generic, "do you need anything else?" since we aren't used to having to ask for condiments that used to be on the table as a standard pre-pandemic!) Ordered comfort food - Zip min! Food came quickly and as ordered - with no green onions and the fried shrimp separate (so it wouldn't get soggy). Broth was hot, noodles still slightly al dente (I don't like soggy noodles), shrimp was still hot and crispy and cooked just right so still tender inside. One of the many things thing I really like at Zippy's is their tender baby choi sum. Not sure where they get it but it's obviously local and a cut above regular choi sum! Very SLOW! The food taste OLD! Fried chicken taste like wood, just like the Sugarhill Gang rap. The dining area was dirty and look like it was not cleaned by the staff. I went to the counter and asked for something to wipe the table, they gave me "one" sheet of sanitary wipe. What! Also, they didn't even offer to clean the tables. The dining area needed it. Next Stop: Zippy's ??? My most recent visit was a few weeks ago on a Saturday night after watching a movie at Ward Consolidated. Though there are many choices/eateries in the Ward area, my friend wanted the next stop to be Zippy's. And so, we found ourselves on the way to the Vineyard location. Firstly, parking is limited and the restaurant was quite busy. Thus, we had to circle around the lot before we found someone pulling out of a space. NOTE: The actual parking lot is tiny. We parked in the overflow lot of the business next door. Be wary of the signs as they do list the time and days spaces are reserved. SIGH: The most disappointing aspect of this entire visit was when we checked-in at the restaurant side. We walked in and found two families of three waiting for their table and no hostess at the hostess stand. Instead, we found a clipboard where it seemed people were signing in, though there was no sign or person instructing people to do so. And so, I signed in for our party of two and waited for a table. Within five minutes of our arrival, the two families waiting were informed that their tables were available/ready. During this time, we continued to wait without being acknowledged at all. Multiple staff came into the host area for various reasons, but none so much gave us a glance or even a courteous "we'll be right with you" toward our direction. As the minutes ticked on, other customers walked in the restaurant, including a young man and lady who also seemed confused as to why there was no host or hostess available/greeting people. FINALLY: A server eventually comes by to check the number of people signed up on the clipboard. The young lady proceeds to inform the server that they have a party of two, but instead the server asks her if she has signed in. The young lady's response was that she did not because she did not know she was supposed to, and then proceeds to write her name in the next available space. After waiting possibly 15-20 minutes, my name is called and we are FINALLY seated. SERVICE: Our server was a very capable older lady. She allowed us enough time to look over the menu, and even checked with the kitchen to make sure which specials were still available that evening. Throughout the meal, she checked on us periodically, provided take out containers for leftovers, and returned multiple times with coffee refills. BOTTOM LINE: Not sure if my next stop will be Zippy's Vineyard. I was very dissatisfied with the check-in process, but the service at dinner was satisfactory and acceptable. read more

Yesss! They finally re-opened their doors for business again after a long wait of renovation. First off, I'd like to say... job well done on the renovation, Zippys! The place looks fantastic. A bit different from the old but I like it. As soon as I stepped foot in here I could automatically see the changes. You can barely recognize some areas of the place. I'm always at this Zippy's mainly because of the location. This location is very nice as it sits in the downtown area, they're always busy here and the parking lot can get filled up quick but they also have additional parking in the lot across. I've been coming here since childhood days. I love chili, it's on the top of my favorite foods list and guess what... they're known for their great tasting chili which is another reason why I like to go to Zippy's in general and it's delicious. I also like their Portuguese bean soup as well. Some nights when the weather is cool outside especially during the winter, I would go for a bowl of their saimin and clubhouse sandwich for it's a perfect match together. Their bakery is really good too. My favorite dessert has to be their Jello creamcheese squares. For my second, it will have to be their Haupia cake. Both are ono delicious. I guess I've been going to zippy's pretty frequently. This is the second time in the past few weeks... and this location has a drive through pick up!!! How cool is that! This location's take out area is right next to the parking lot. There isn't much ambiance or anything. In fact, I think it's a bit dangerous that it opens up to the parking lot in the way that it does, but oh well. Now that I think about it, the parking lot entrance/exit isn't really well laid out either. The menu is obviously the same. And obviously, I always order the same thing: chili chicken mixed plate. They charge for water, too, which is no surprise. Overall, this is a pretty A-OK zippys for me. It's conveniently located on my way home from Chinatown and open late. One of my favorite Zippy's to go to. It is convenient because it is closest to home and, like most Zippy's, they are open 24/7. This is extremely convenient during tax season when I would leave work after most restaurants closed. The servers here are always attentive. We rarely have to ask for drink refills and our food is served quickly. My favorite dish at Zippy's is the korean fried chicken. The chicken is boneless and cut into smaller pieces, so less work for me to do to eat it. It is fried chicken, which means a great, crispy outside. It is never oily. What makes the chicken amazing is the sauce they put on top of the chicken. It is sweet with a slight zing of spice. Absolutely delicious. If I eat on the dining side, I like the side of vegetables the chicken normally comes with. Zippy's also has soup. It changes daily. My favorite soup is their corn chowder. It has nice chunks of potatoes and ham with a thicker consistency. If you are eating on the dine-in side, then you can get a complete meal with the entree that includes soup, entree, and dessert. They have really good desserts too! After all, they have Napoleon's bakery with their famous turnovers! If I am not full, I usually get the chocolate ice cream with my complete meal. Growing up in Hawaii, I come to Zippys knowing what to expect and I never have a bad experience. I order the chicken chili mix plate with a side order of fries. It always hits the spot when I'm craving it and my last experience was no different. The vineyard location is nostalgic for me because I remember coming here with my parents growing up. The interior looks like it has been redone over the years so it actually looked pretty nice inside. Service was friendly and ambiance was comforting. Don't come to zippys expecting an out of this world, avant-garde experience. Come for the local food and nice atmosphere. If they're busy, be nice to the aunties and uncles that work there. It goes a long way. If you try a "new" item and you don't like it, that's on you. Chicken/chili is the way to go. read more

Vineyard Zippy's is my go to place. But I'm just saying last August of 2023 I had a hamburger sandwich. Unfortunately I bit into my burger and cracked a tooth pretty bad. Told the waiter that there was a bone in the burger. He told me he was going to let management know. Not looking for any compensation for the dentist visit. But again it happened just this weekend. This time it was in my chili. Luckily didn't crack a tooth this time. Ain't stopping me from eating at Zippy's.
