Today I got to try the Beef Stew Plate & Kalua Pig Plate for $5 each and they were tasty. Super deal. Also, the service was very friendly and helpful.

$5/$6 bentos. Good deal. Located on S.King Street. Old Yamagen. Across from Mccully library and McDonald's. Street parking in front. Make sure you check your order and bag. Requested utensils and napkins. Got forks, but No napkins. Cash only, per sign near register. Recommend: Baked snapper mayo, $6, includes rice and corn, Good portion.

Awesome spot for the price. Now, obviously it is going to be a little under restaurant quality (canned corn), but for $6 I couldn't believe the portion of fish I got. My family got ahi belly, the sweet chili fish, and pork adobo and all were great. The portion of sweet chili fish filled the entire bento, I am a big eater and it was more than enough for me. Sweet chili sauce was delicious. Corn is canned, but still sweet and crunchy. Highly recommend for a quick, easy, affordable lunch! Wish there were a few more options, but still no complaints.

Think I found my new favorite item to always order and that is the Chicken Curry. I usually order the sweet chili sauce snapper but I figure that I try something different which I never seen on the menu before and that is Chicken Curry. It's hard to find a place that serves "local" style Chicken Curry. Most places serve Hamburger or Beef Curry. For the price of only $5 and which was surprisingly was the generous portion pieces of chicken, carrots and potatoes. Flavor was on point not spicy as I prefer it anyways. Wish I had ordered 2 plates instead of one. If they have the Chicken Curry on the Menu I will start ordering that over the fish from now on.

This particularly $5 Bento is located right next door to Savers. It use to be Ross and also the Japanese restaurant Yamagen . Can't go wrong with $5 bento comes with rice and corn and the main entree . I picked up their hamburger steak and sweet chili fish . Service is fast and quick all their bento's are in warmers and ready to go . This location seems to be very busy because I arrived about 4:15pm and the selection was almost sold out only chicken adobo, Hamburger steak and fish left Support local

Recently, I stopped here since a parking stall on the street was available and convenient. I had also always wanted to try the $5. Bento Box. There were several choices available. I decided to get the $6. Furikaki Fish. It was tasty and the portion was just right for a Senior. I like that the Bentos are kept warm. I could see how two $5. Bentos would be perfect if you have a larger appetite. I would go back to try their other offerings. Good value and worth trying!

It is a food truck on King Street

Lunch from Moiliili, Honolulu, Hawaii... After having leftovers from my niece's Graduation party for too many days, I thought that everyone in the family would enjoy some other cuisine. $5 Bento has several locations. This one is on the left side of King Street, right before the building where Ross used to be. (A Savers is coming soon.) There's metered street parking, but picking up bentos is quick. (No need to feed the meter.) The young man in the food truck was efficient and pleasant. I got two of each: shoyu chicken, beef stew, pork adobo, and chicken stew. Everyone had their favorites (My brother-in-law liked the shoyu chicken the best) and were happy with the selection. I would return if I was in the area. However - Personally, the Kalihi location is probably closer to my mom's house and might have more of a selection (like hamburger steak, snapper, and kalua pig and cabbage).

Finally... a place that speaks to my wallet! I had seen the $5 Bento Box food truck on S. King St and in the Kaimuki area, but I never thought to stop by until one evening when I wasn't very hungry and just wanted a small bite to eat. I did a search on bentos and this place popped up with 4 star reviews. Sounded promising. Since the Kaimuki location is closer to me, I stopped by there first. They're actually located in the student parking lot at KCC. They were sold out by 5pm! The guy told me to call the S. King St location to see if they still had bentos available. They did, so I headed out there. They're located in Moilili next to a CVS. You can't miss them due to their bright red sign. Plenty of parking is available in front. After browsing the menu, I decided to get the $6 snapper with lemon butter. Yes, it was $6, not $5. All of the other bentos were $5, though. They have about 10 different bentos to choose from. They are pre-packaged and kept in a warm, large container that's temperature controlled. The snapper was just the right size, since I wasn't too hungry. It came with rice and a small amount of corn. The lemon butter added flavor. It was actually very delicious! The lady working in the food truck was really sweet. She showed me several bentos and allowed me to choose the one I wanted. There aren't any tables to sit down so this is a take-out only place. I would definitely return to try some of their other bentos. I mean, how can you go wrong with a $5 bento? Or in my case, a $6 bento?

a truck parked in front of a building

Okay, you seriously can't beat this value in town for food. Where else can you find a meal for $5 that will fill you up? Go early for a larger selection. They premake and pack their bentos which are kept in food warmers until they sell out. I found their food to be hit or miss. Sometimes really good, some times bland, some times way too salty. But hey, again for $5 bucks, you can't be too picky or complain. The pulled pork with gravy was probably my favorite. They even have fish dishes for $5. Dunno how they make a profit. They are across the street from Stadium Park, tucked right before Ross. Street parking.

    Nat N.

As the saying goes, sometimes you get what you pay for. For $5, you can't expect much. But, I did come here expecting to get what I ordered, but I swear the furikake ahi that I ordered was not AHI, but cod. It was a hefty serving of food for $5, but it was a little on the salty side. I wouldn't mind trying this place again, but I would opt to try a different dish, such as the hamburger steak or maybe one of the chicken bentos. I give the ladies who were working here props for their enthusiasm and friendliness.

Located just next door to the Ross Dress for less in Moiliili.

Five, Five Dollah, Five Dollah Bentoooooooooo!!!! Yes gangies, I said $5.00 dollar bento!!! If you folks drive around on Oahu, sooner or later you will see a truck or a sign that advertises $5.00 Bento. True to what they advertise, all of their bentos are $5.00 bucks...........not all of the items are tasty/good , but to be honest, a few items are actually pretty good! One of the items I come here for is the "Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce". I mainly pick up this bento for my pops, as he digs this dish! The Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce bento comes with a slab of fish marinated with that Asian sweet chili sauce, a scoop of white rice, and a scoop of corn. Not bad for just $5 bucks and some change for tax. If you're not into fish, they do have other items here, as they usually offer 10 to 15 different items. Like anything, it's a crap shoot on what you pick...........like I said before, not all of the items are tasty/good, but you really can't complain about a $5.00 bento, right? Located in the McCully/Moiliili neighborhood, you can find this $5.00 Bento outlet just next door from the Ross Dress for Less. Parking is basically street parking, but finding parking isn't an issue here. Lookin' for cheap eats? That $5.00 Bento may help your wallet! :D

    Roast pork.
    Lyn L.

Depending on what you get the $5 is a desk. Roast pork is good, worth the $5 Shoyu chicken was hard and dry... they give 2 pieces but for me not edible so total waste. Mayo snapper... I did not care for either. Guess I'll need to get the roast pork when I can.

He described everything with such care that it was hard not to order everything! I'd highly recommend a reservation as there was not an empty table the entire two hours we were there. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it can get quite loud but our table had great conversations and a overall lovely time. Appetizer: We ordered the konpachi hush puppies (apologies, they had a nicer name but this is how they were described to us) and they were delicious! I'm not a lover of fish, but these were so flavorful and the sauce paired perfectly with it. Drinks: I had the meringue di cedri to drink and it was akin to a lemon drop (10/10) it was sippable and lasted my whole meal. Husband had the Hana Koa Rice Breaker, which is one of his favorites as its smooth and pairs well with honestly anything. Entree: You will be missing out if you don't get the lemon risotto. I ordered it with the prosciutto and it may be one of the best meals I've had in Hawaii. The zucchini is done two ways in it: diced to be mixed in with the risotto and thinly sliced and grilled on top of the risotto. The panko crumbs on top really solidified the plate for me as top tier as risotto can get to be boring to eat after a few bites as they can lack texture, but not this risotto! Every bite was a journey and it was a very filling meal. My husband ordered the Korean steak and said it was better than some of the local steakhouses we had gone to. Our friend ordered the spaghetti carbonara and enjoyed it as well. Dessert: We were encouraged to try the Rocky Road ice cream and decided it was a must have when you visit. It was creamy, rich and delectable. We also opted to try the dessert special of the evening which was a Lilikoi cheesecake with a chocolate mousse. The cheesecake had a sour tang to it and the chocolate mousse partner with it to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet. We loved it and I know in a few days we'll be craving this meal all over again!

France meets Italy - meets Hawaii. I'm still dreaming of this. The burger features a thick, juicy, 8-ounce grass-fed patty made from a custom house-selected blend of short rib, chuck roast, and brisket. Get it with the crispy potatoes. You will thank me. Risotto on point. Luxuriously rich, creamy texture. The rice retains a slight al dente bite in the center, giving it structure rather than letting it become mushy. Prosciutto adds a perfect salty, savory crunch to break up the rich risotto. The only misstep was the fries served with the quinoa burger. They were chalky, served at room temperature, limp, and underseasoned. Excellent friendly informal service. Park at the municipal parking on Bethel St just 1/2 block away. Happy Eating!!

The smoked octopus was sliced in pieces that were too thick and a little too chewy and the andouille sausage and black pepper overpowered the dish. Ordered the bourbon and bone marrow mostly for the presentation. It was WAAAY too rich and needed more bread to go with it. They should've served it with bread that wasn't buttered because the buttered bread even though tasty by itself was just too rich in combination with all of that bone marrow. The dish needed more balance. The ice cream sundae was unremarkable. Would have preferred it served with a choice of hot fudge or the caramel drizzle and since it was plain vanilla ice cream they could've drizzled a lot more caramel over it. The waitress did bring us more nuts when we asked, but they were busy at the time and she was the only server so it took her a while to get to us, and the ice cream was pretty melted by the time she delivered. We got there when they opened at 5 PM and they had two servers at that time. The place wasn't busy so it seemed like they had enough help for the amount of tables that were being seated. An hour and a half later, though, one server was missing (possibly taking a lunch break) and the only server remaining at several big parties to take care of which slowed down her responsiveness to the other smaller tables like ours. The music playing in the background seemed to fit the environment and was pleasant to listen to. It's a pretty casual atmosphere. The prices for what you get are a bit on the high end. Probably wouldn't go back unless someone else is paying. We didn't feel too bad this time because we had a gift certificate which covered most of our bill. Maybe we were choosing all the wrong items and should have just stuck to ordering meat dishes, which they might be better at making (with a name like Livestock). You'll have to check this place out yourself and see if they do a better job with meat and if the prices for those dishes are more reasonable. I gave this place four stars instead of three because the servers were friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was mostly okay (tasty enough and filling).

Lo and behold '10pm' Again I never make it a habit but we would have been out of there before the other tabes were done eating. Long day at work and I just needed fuel.

I'd never been to their other locations, so this was my first experience -- and honestly, it left an impression. That spot in Kapolei has seen a few restaurants come and go over the years. Before Scratch Kitchen, there was Sugar Cane, and if I reach far enough back, I'm pretty sure a Mexican restaurant lived there too. It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat. Which is why I can't help but wonder what happened -- like so many restaurants before them in that same location. With food that good, you'd hope they'd be the ones to break the cycle. All in all, I'm grateful I got to enjoy that meal with my daughter. It was memorable, delicious, and one of those small moments you hold onto. Marie

Either way, it made for a super relaxed experience with no wait and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the food. Loved: The street tacos with the tempura shrimp were easily the star of the meal. 100% worth it. Light, crispy shrimp with a flavorful slaw and just the right amount of heat--basically a flavor party in every bite. The burger was another quiet star. Juicy patties, nicely seasoned, and stacked just right. Nothing super flashy, but really satisfying. Definitely a good pick if you're not in the mood for brunchy stuff. The Miss: Tried the French toast and... meh. It looked great on the plate but tasted dry and definitely didn't live up to the level of the other dishes. Might've just been an off day or a matter of personal taste, but I'd skip it next time.

The pastries were just okay; we tried a few cake slices that were fine but unremarkable. The cinnamon roll was dry and hard, the malasadas were forgettable, and the haupia-filled malasada was surprisingly tart. It's possible some ingredients were locally sourced and just unfamiliar to our mainland palates, or maybe we simply caught them on an off day. The servers were curt but friendly, likely because the place was packed with tourists.

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
