Today I got to try the Beef Stew Plate & Kalua Pig Plate for $5 each and they were tasty. Super deal. Also, the service was very friendly and helpful.

Awesome spot for the price. Now, obviously it is going to be a little under restaurant quality (canned corn), but for $6 I couldn't believe the portion of fish I got. My family got ahi belly, the sweet chili fish, and pork adobo and all were great. The portion of sweet chili fish filled the entire bento, I am a big eater and it was more than enough for me. Sweet chili sauce was delicious. Corn is canned, but still sweet and crunchy. Highly recommend for a quick, easy, affordable lunch! Wish there were a few more options, but still no complaints.

Think I found my new favorite item to always order and that is the Chicken Curry. I usually order the sweet chili sauce snapper but I figure that I try something different which I never seen on the menu before and that is Chicken Curry. It's hard to find a place that serves "local" style Chicken Curry. Most places serve Hamburger or Beef Curry. For the price of only $5 and which was surprisingly was the generous portion pieces of chicken, carrots and potatoes. Flavor was on point not spicy as I prefer it anyways. Wish I had ordered 2 plates instead of one. If they have the Chicken Curry on the Menu I will start ordering that over the fish from now on.

This particularly $5 Bento is located right next door to Savers. It use to be Ross and also the Japanese restaurant Yamagen . Can't go wrong with $5 bento comes with rice and corn and the main entree . I picked up their hamburger steak and sweet chili fish . Service is fast and quick all their bento's are in warmers and ready to go . This location seems to be very busy because I arrived about 4:15pm and the selection was almost sold out only chicken adobo, Hamburger steak and fish left Support local

Recently, I stopped here since a parking stall on the street was available and convenient. I had also always wanted to try the $5. Bento Box. There were several choices available. I decided to get the $6. Furikaki Fish. It was tasty and the portion was just right for a Senior. I like that the Bentos are kept warm. I could see how two $5. Bentos would be perfect if you have a larger appetite. I would go back to try their other offerings. Good value and worth trying!

It is a food truck on King Street

Lunch from Moiliili, Honolulu, Hawaii... After having leftovers from my niece's Graduation party for too many days, I thought that everyone in the family would enjoy some other cuisine. $5 Bento has several locations. This one is on the left side of King Street, right before the building where Ross used to be. (A Savers is coming soon.) There's metered street parking, but picking up bentos is quick. (No need to feed the meter.) The young man in the food truck was efficient and pleasant. I got two of each: shoyu chicken, beef stew, pork adobo, and chicken stew. Everyone had their favorites (My brother-in-law liked the shoyu chicken the best) and were happy with the selection. I would return if I was in the area. However - Personally, the Kalihi location is probably closer to my mom's house and might have more of a selection (like hamburger steak, snapper, and kalua pig and cabbage).

Finally... a place that speaks to my wallet! I had seen the $5 Bento Box food truck on S. King St and in the Kaimuki area, but I never thought to stop by until one evening when I wasn't very hungry and just wanted a small bite to eat. I did a search on bentos and this place popped up with 4 star reviews. Sounded promising. Since the Kaimuki location is closer to me, I stopped by there first. They're actually located in the student parking lot at KCC. They were sold out by 5pm! The guy told me to call the S. King St location to see if they still had bentos available. They did, so I headed out there. They're located in Moilili next to a CVS. You can't miss them due to their bright red sign. Plenty of parking is available in front. After browsing the menu, I decided to get the $6 snapper with lemon butter. Yes, it was $6, not $5. All of the other bentos were $5, though. They have about 10 different bentos to choose from. They are pre-packaged and kept in a warm, large container that's temperature controlled. The snapper was just the right size, since I wasn't too hungry. It came with rice and a small amount of corn. The lemon butter added flavor. It was actually very delicious! The lady working in the food truck was really sweet. She showed me several bentos and allowed me to choose the one I wanted. There aren't any tables to sit down so this is a take-out only place. I would definitely return to try some of their other bentos. I mean, how can you go wrong with a $5 bento? Or in my case, a $6 bento?

Okay, you seriously can't beat this value in town for food. Where else can you find a meal for $5 that will fill you up? Go early for a larger selection. They premake and pack their bentos which are kept in food warmers until they sell out. I found their food to be hit or miss. Sometimes really good, some times bland, some times way too salty. But hey, again for $5 bucks, you can't be too picky or complain. The pulled pork with gravy was probably my favorite. They even have fish dishes for $5. Dunno how they make a profit. They are across the street from Stadium Park, tucked right before Ross. Street parking.

    Nat N.

As the saying goes, sometimes you get what you pay for. For $5, you can't expect much. But, I did come here expecting to get what I ordered, but I swear the furikake ahi that I ordered was not AHI, but cod. It was a hefty serving of food for $5, but it was a little on the salty side. I wouldn't mind trying this place again, but I would opt to try a different dish, such as the hamburger steak or maybe one of the chicken bentos. I give the ladies who were working here props for their enthusiasm and friendliness.

Located just next door to the Ross Dress for less in Moiliili.

Five, Five Dollah, Five Dollah Bentoooooooooo!!!! Yes gangies, I said $5.00 dollar bento!!! If you folks drive around on Oahu, sooner or later you will see a truck or a sign that advertises $5.00 Bento. True to what they advertise, all of their bentos are $5.00 bucks...........not all of the items are tasty/good , but to be honest, a few items are actually pretty good! One of the items I come here for is the "Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce". I mainly pick up this bento for my pops, as he digs this dish! The Snapper with Asian Sweet Chili sauce bento comes with a slab of fish marinated with that Asian sweet chili sauce, a scoop of white rice, and a scoop of corn. Not bad for just $5 bucks and some change for tax. If you're not into fish, they do have other items here, as they usually offer 10 to 15 different items. Like anything, it's a crap shoot on what you pick...........like I said before, not all of the items are tasty/good, but you really can't complain about a $5.00 bento, right? Located in the McCully/Moiliili neighborhood, you can find this $5.00 Bento outlet just next door from the Ross Dress for Less. Parking is basically street parking, but finding parking isn't an issue here. Lookin' for cheap eats? That $5.00 Bento may help your wallet! :D

    Roast pork.
    Lyn L.

Depending on what you get the $5 is a desk. Roast pork is good, worth the $5 Shoyu chicken was hard and dry... they give 2 pieces but for me not edible so total waste. Mayo snapper... I did not care for either. Guess I'll need to get the roast pork when I can.

Five Star to $5 Bento Box!! Who hasn't seen these vans all around town! Honestly I never gave it much though...no not because of the price or the simplicity placed mini van. I thought it was a single choice basic meal where you don't have much decisions like a grab and go style.....WRONG!! Not only they have at least a dozen choices it's all $5 (plus tax). Sadly it came to my attention only after watching it on the news with how they take a loss only to help support the community in need that are struggling to make ends meet. To make up some of the loss is the sale of shaved ice and some fancy pineapple smoothie in the pineapple which sadly this location isn't offering considering it's not a visitor location by any means but if they had some sort of upgrade drinks I'd be glad to support by picking up one from time to time. This location is fairly new in the former Yamagen location that's right before Ross's McCully and they had everything we love including Kale Pig & Cabbage, Fried Akule and Beef Stew! Today it was Pork Adobo and wow it does exactly that pork is so perfectly with that yummy vinegar goodness along with a scoop of rice topped with some furikake and corn. This location sells just the bento and $1 bottle water unlike the Ala Moana location though I encourage you to give them a try, I'm grateful for the though and process that makes this happen for our community as positivity is what makes this place Aloha!! Thank you!

It came with three sides so I got cole slaw, potato salad, and Mac and cheese. Cole slaw and Mac and cheese were solid; Potato salad was just alright. They also gave one warm bun too. The reason I gave 3 stars was because service was extremely slow. It seemed like they were short staff and had one person at the cash register AND getting the food. He would take a few orders, and then grab the food. When I arrived, he was grabbing food for multiple folks so then I stood there waiting like 15 just to place my order. However, after having to abandon our original dinner plans, we were no less intrigued after randomly stumbling across this place. While they may not have been our first choice for dinner, coming here was far more appealing than eating fast food or at the nearby IHOP! Although seeing so many folks at this mini food truck park may have been what caught our attention, it was the boxes of fried chicken on nearly every table that swayed us to try Waikiki Chicken in Paradise in particular. After skimming the menu, it wasn't hard to see why they were such a popular choice - everything on it sounded great. Granted, that's not overly difficult when there are only eight items to choose from, but tough to argue with the likes of fried chicken loco moco, fried chicken curry rice, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken & croffle, and fish & chips! Since we saw how big the portion were and didn't want anything too heavy (read: sadly, no loco moco or Japanese curry), we opted to split a FRIED CHICKEN RICE PLATE ($16.95) which came with a Fried Chicken Cutlet over White Rice with Mac Salad & Green Salad. Funny enough, despite already having a sense of how much food they give, I was still surprised by the generous portion size. As for how it all tasted, this was great. The breading on the chicken reminded me of Popeye's (though, without the spice), the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was rather moist. As for the sides, the mac salad was pretty good, but the salad was a little heavy on dressing. If there was one thing I could change about our order, I think I'd want to see how it would taste with a sauce or glaze. At the very least, I'd definitely go with a different dipping sauce, like their Pineapple Ginger, Lilikoi Mayo, or Guava BBQ, as the Honey Mustard we went with tasted a bit generic. Of course, we could've solved both problems if we had gone with the Fried Chicken Loco Moco or Fried Chicken Curry Rice instead! I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in Waikiki!
